TWRP for Asus ZO11D? - Zenfone 2 Laser Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an old Asus ZO11D ANDROID 6.0.1 (WW_21.40.1220.2170_20170719) that I'd like to root.
It's unclear which model this Zenfone is. (I don't understand the naming system.)
Which TWRP version should I use? Would be great to get some suggestions for rooting it, and if there are any recommended custom ROMs.

model number and switching roms

I have the zenfone 2 laser. In settings.. About phone.. It says asus z00td. When Googling for info it appears there are alternate model names like ze551kl. Are these 1 and the same or is my only model number z00td?
Also i have flashed many roms but it's been a while.
I'm running Android 5.0.2. I wish to switch to lineage os. I don't care what version. Android 6 or 7 is fine. I have twrp and know how to use it.
Are these the proper steps to do so?
1. Download lineage os rom zip (from where exactly? See model number question above)
2. Download gapps
3. Reboot and backup And then wipe in twrp
4. Flash rom, then, flash gapps
5. Reboot, profit.
I seem to remember from before when switching Android versions i had to upgrade baseband and/or kernrl files. Will i still need to do this? My current baseband version is 202c10_10.0.0_160304 and kernel version is ... A really long number but dated fri April 15th 2016. If so, where do I find these things?
I apologize for the newbie-ish questions. I'm looking to get back in the rom flashing game but i need refreshers and sons nudges in the right directions.
Any help at all would be appreciated. I know there's a lot of questions here.
Also, root would be fine but can i run lineage os without it? And are there any other stable roms for this model phone? Any lightweight roms?
Edit| forgot to add, I'm already rooted with twrp custom recovery installed and working
As your model number says, you need custom ROM's which are built for "Z00T".

Direct flash from Marshmallow to Oreo?

My device's battery is near it's end of life and I'd like to replace it, before I risk that, I want to update to latest Bad Boyz Sprint HTC 10 ROM 8.0 Sense 8 v4.0.
Please help me verify workflow.
I am S-off with Root, running stock sprint (basically out of the box, IRC)
Android 6.0.1
Software 1.24.651.3
Kernel 3.18.20
TWRP 3.0.2-4
1) TWRP backup
2) Flash latest TWRP (3.2.1-4-pme.img)
3)Flash new ROM
4) Done
It can't be that easy can it?
Thanks all!

Is it true that samsung made it impossible to root an S8+ with the latest updates?

I seem to remember reading something some weeks ago that Samsung did something in their latest few updates for the S8+ that made it impossible to root them... is that true?
I'm running a SM-G955F - DTM here... and I'd rather keep it rooted. I'm using magisk to root my devices.
Any insights for me?
AFAIK, as long as if you have twrp installed, you can update to whatever you want.
you then can:
make a full backup with TWRP, and Samsung can't do anything against you just restoring the full backup (with the old update and root)
just flash whatever (custom)ROM you want.
You already are rooted, so OTAs aren't a thing for you. I don't know if there even exists a twrp flashable stock ROM, but why don't you just switch to a custom rom (with the newest updates installed)?
Honestly, the only custom rom i know of is lineage (nee cyanogenmod), and at least on my old S5 I found that the fingerprint reader does not work on cyanogenmod. also, anything that checks safetynet does not work either.

LieangeOS isn't even available for our device (infact it is, but unusable).
The custom roms available right now are all stock touchwiz roms with slight modifications (most of them aren't even necessary, thx to aroma).
Look over to a thread like the one from Renovate ICE, most of the time roms like these are based on the newest sources from Samsung with the newest security patch level. It has root (Magisk or SuperSu) included and also passes safetyNet.
As I said in the post above, you always can make a full twrp Backup, try a ROM like Renovate Ice and if you don't like it, just go back to your stock ROM in minutes. :fingers-crossed:

Some questions about rooting, custom roms etc.

Hello.
First I'd like to say that i haven't ever tried anything like rooting my phone or custom roms so that you know what you're dealing with
Lately I've been bored with my s8 plus(SM-G955F). Was even considering buying a different phone but then i remembered reading about rooting and custom roms so i thought i might give it a try.
I've been reading a bit about rooting and roms but all the information and methods can be a little overwhelming for someone like me who doesn't really know what he's doing. Basically i need help.
While looking for custom rom i'd like to try i settled on renovate ice and i have some questions.
Do i need to root before flashing a custom rom or does the rom come rooted already?
From what i understand i have to start with installing TWRP with odin but what then? root or rom?
Basically if anyone would be kind enough to provide some links with steps i need to take to install that rom and root my device and not mess it up i'd be grateful.
In case you need it I'm on the latest OTA i've received.

Hello there , you do not need to root your to flash a custom rom . All you need is to backup your data for you own safety and flash TWRP recovery through Odin probram . Renovate ice is most famous and stable rom you can try . It has same UI as the stock rom . Little changes only you might wont see me . If you want to change UI you should for another rom . Also root comes with the rom inbuild, specificaly renovate ice has two options to chose, magisk or supersu . Personally i prefer Magisk before through this app ' you can' modify your system, its like xposed framework.

So I installed TWRP like in the video.
Everything seemed to work i had a clean install of stock ore with twrp. When i tried to boot into twrp i had the "only official binaries" bootloop. So i flashed a bootloader and i was stuck on galaxy s8+ screen. Went into download mode to flash stock firmware but can't do anything. Stuck in download mode and can't flash anything now... How do i get out of it?
Edit:
Ok. Found a way to flash the bootloader. now I'm back to "only official binaries" bootloop.
Edit 2:
Ok managed to get everything to work. At least it appears so for now.
Had to flash nougat firmware then installed twrp, rom and root and it worked.
I thought something went wrong because it was very laggy but after rebooting it seems okay. We'll see how it goes from here.
Gonna google it and try to fix it but if anyone has any ideas i'd be grateful

[Solved] Most Stable rom for Mi A1 Tissot and some other relevant questions.

Hi,
Its been a long time since I last rommed any phone. Last Was my beloved 'Bacon' (Oneplus One) which I rommed till it died.
I am trying to install a custom rom on my wife's Mi A1. Have a few questions.
Which is the most stable rom (Android 11 preferred but if android 11 isn't stable then android 10 will do). Trying to replace the boring stock rom with some much needed features. but don't need a super tweaked up rom. Stability is most important. : edit: installed lineage 18.1.
Can I directly flash TWRP 3.6.0_9-0-tissot over stock? As with Bacon, I needed to flash One recovery then another to get a version jump. like I cant directly flash twrp 3.x over stock. I needed to flash TWRP 2.xy and then 3.0. (example, not real version numbers.)
I don't need root. But I do need the device to pass SafetyNet as I need it to operate apps like Gpay (which does not work if device fails SafetyNet).
Can I re lock the bootloader after flashing TWRP? Would it help with SafetyNet situation?
OpenGapps still good?

1. There are plenty of stable roms, you can look at Xiaomi Mi A1 ROMs section to check them.
2. You can directly flash TWRP on stock rom.
3. ?
4. No
5. I use roms with pre-installed GApps for stablity.
