Thanks for the reply. I meant I bought the Tab without a data plan and do not wish to. It keeps trying to activate but cant. I am looking for a way around it.

I've been grappling with this for a while now, and unfortunately, the activation process can only happen if you were to have service. You could, thanks to Sprint's 30 money back guarantee, buy a month of service, activate your device, and then cancel the service within a few days and you won't be charged. Of course, this invovles spending a whole lot of time on the phone with Sprint, or going into a Sprint store, which you may not want to do. Don't worry though, there is another option.
I decided I didn't want to go through any hassle, so I spent some time fooling around with the system and came up with the following method. It took me a while to in the application manager to track down the programs responsible for the activation prompt, but I found them. What you need to do is this:
NOTE: I have tested this on the SPRINT Tab with the latest software.
*DO NOT uninstall any of these apps, just "Freeze" them. If you delete any, you may loose the ability to do firmware and Android OS updates!*
1. Root your Tab, (preferably with z4root), I suggest using the "permanent root" option.
2. Go to Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Development -> and check "USB Debugging"
3. Install Titanium Backup
4. Run Titanium Backup and go into "Backup/Restore" Look for "Software Update 1.5.0" in the list.
5. Tap the application name.
6. On the window that comes up, select "Freeze" It will give you a confirmation of success and the "Freeze" button will change to "Defrost" now hit the back button.
7. Locate "Sprint Installer 2.0", "Sprint Zone SZ 2.1.11", and "System Updates 1.0.0" Repeat steps 5 and 6 for each of these applications.
8. Close Titanium Backup
9. Restart
Now the activation prompt will not come up and it won't interrupt you when using your Tab. It doesn't affect anything if you plan to use the Tab off-contract with Wifi only.
I chose to "Freeze" the apps because it denies them access to the system, which removes the activation problem. I didn't uninstall them, though because if you want to activate it on the network at any time later, or you need to do a Firmware/Android OS update through official channels, you may need these apps.
If you want to undo this at any time, follow the directions the same way, but during step 6 select "Defrost" instead of "Freeze"
I hope this helps.
Thanks
Works great! Thanks for the info.
It´s posible active the phone

Hi there, Do you think is´t posible to liberate the phone?
This is EXACTLY what I was looking for! Worked GREAT! Thanks!
... but I have a question regarding 2 of the items that are frozen now. like the Software Update 1.5.0 & System Updates 1.0.0 --- are they specific to sprint? what exactly are these for and why do these have to be frozen in order to disable the sprint activation? will i still be able to get firmware updates and all that jazz?
if i want to check for updates, do i need to defrost these?
How to get root app
maybe I'm missing something but how do you get the root app. I.e. to bypass activation you need a root application. However I can't find a way to download apps without the tab being activated. Seems like a paradox. In a nut shell how can I get the z4root application installed when the tab is not yet activated?
Thanks for any help
You can always turn on the WiFi, and connect it to an available network to gain access to the Market.
I too have been struggling with the activation prompt, and since Rooting is still somewhat touchy with our SPH-P100, I've found that the best answer is to put your Tab in Airplane mode, and manually turn on the WiFi. This will keep any options you're unsure of on the back burner 'til the devs here have some more time to save money for, and play with the Tab!

You can find z4root here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953
I have a Sprint tab, and if you hit cancel on the activation each time you turn the device on, you can still access your home screen and all the apps and enable wifi to access the market.
To permanently bypass activation, side load & install the z4root app from the link above and install Titanum Backup from the market .. follow the instructions posted by rkmj earlier in this thread.

Sorry for taking so long to respond to this, but my XDA notification settings were all screwed up. I just realized that you asked this. Software Update 1.5.0 and System Updates seem to be Samsung apps that are tied directly to Sprint Zone and the activtion prompt. They run periodically and when they activate, they query Sprint Zone to see if the device has been activated on the network. In order to stop the activation prompt, these need to stop running.
I can't really tell about firmware updates just yet. Based on the way Sprint generally provides them, you will have the option of OTA or via PC. With this fix in place, you will need to run the update via the PC. If you wanted to get the firmware updates OTA, you will need to defrost the programs. Unfortunately, you will also have to activate the device.
My method doesn't change anything on the device. It just disables the prompt. In order to receive anything OTA, you will have to activate the device. I have a theory about how you can both disable the prompt and still query for OTA updates, but I have to do a bit of testing first. I will post back here once I have tested it completely.
So I ran 'MyBackup' for the Apps and Data on my phone before loading the bootloader onto the phone because of the data loss that happens.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136261
So now i got the phone back up, i have loaded 'MyBackup' back onto the phone to restore the files.
turned on USB debugging, and then ran the restore on the apps..
Now I am getting the pesky security warning:
-Security Warning-
This application comes from an unknown source, and for your security only applications from trusted sources can be installed.
So what now ? Do I just chalk up a loss and manually load everything back onto it ?
Thanks

Enable side loading.
There are several ways to do it just search.
That's the warning that comes up when sideloading is not enabled. Have you checked to make sure you still have the checkbox for installing non-market apps in settings?
And if you don't see this option in the settings (I didn't) search for gladenable in the dev section. It will enable sideloading and let you restore the apps.
you guys pointed me in the right direction..
1) I installed Chainfire’s “GingerBreak” application
2) I installed GladiAtrix Enabler v1.05 (GladEnabler)
Rebooted the phone.
non-app setting was already checked after the reboot...
Successfully restored the apps without any error messages. although clicking on 'install' for every application was annoying.
Hi,
I've been using this app for a couple of days (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=joel.sternet.se.full2) but decided I wanted to uninstall it again.
Now I followed the instructions by the author, so that the device administrator rights would be removed and I could remove the app.
However the 3 top options for the type of lock screen (the 3 that don't require a password) are still greyed out, and right below it says that these options are disabled by a device administrator.
I've checked the device administrator menu under security, and I only have ADM and Cerberus active, and those two were active before I tried the new app.
Help, what can I do to remove this? Is a factory reset the only solution?
Kind regards
had this problem, finded solution another place so i just write here:
1. Go to Settings
2. Select Security which under "General" tab
3. Under Credential Storage -> Clear Credentials

Hi.
I need guidance on how to decrypt and mount my phone's encrypted "sdcard" storage so I can take a backup. (Alternatively, I would like some form of statement saying that even if I dirty flash, and then log into my Google account, I would be able to access my encrypted data. I doubt this is possible; I believe encryption to be unique per installation.)
My beloved OP5 was beginning to get sluggish (and sometimes wouldn't store photos I would take without having unlocked the phone), so after ~1.000hrs uptime I rebooted it. And now, it's stuck at "Phone is starting" displayed over my lock screen wallpaper. It can't seem to get past this stage, it will stay that way even if left overnight. My daily alarm seems to function normally, and I can access the notification drop-down -- and through that the Settings app.
It's running OxygenOS 10.0.0, with the latest OTA update. It is rooted and has the latest TWRP recovery and Magisk (solely for root, no Magisk modules installed).
Through the Settings app, I can see that the Default App registered for "Home app" is "None" -- wtf? Clicking it gives me no options (pretty much just a blank screen), although there is the stock launcher as well as ADW launcher (which I prefer, and had as default prior to the reboot).
I have tried wiping the cache and Dalvik. I have tinkered with turning lock screen settings (code, pin, pattern, etc) on and off, but found that anything other than the pattern would not allow me to access TWRP because that one either shows a pattern input, or a password input that accepts neither a pin, a password, nor my Google password. That is to say, using the pattern code, I can make full use of TWRP but apparently to no effect.
I have read that a factory reset "should" fix this, but I am running with an encrypted file system and thus I cannot simply make a data dump from TWRP. Also, although I can access the "USB preferences" setting (which I have set to default to "File transfer" anyhow), I cannot get it to mount on my Linux workstation (which has not been a problem before) -- I do get a device named "20160907_11062618" with the autorun.inf and such files, but the "OnePlus" device will not mount via MTP.
What else can I try to recover my encrypted data, before I inevitably re-flash this device? Can I use fastboot to decrypt and mount the phone's "sdcard" storage on my workstation, if so with which commands?
Ahr well ... I did not find any way around this...
I did a factory reset ---losing all my encrypted data in "/sdcard"--- and started over.

Boot in Recovery Mode : Hold Home + Power + Volume+ until you see Samsung's logo then release and wait a few seconds for TWRP recovery to boot.
Recovery asks for Keep System Read Only ? > Swipe to Allow Modifications.
Go to Wipe > Format Data.
Type: yes and confirm with bottom right check icon.
Encryption is removed. You can now access partitions.
### If you miss this step you won't have access to any partition.
Back to home menu > Backup.
You can now select the partitions you want to save.
I prefer to backup System, Data and Boot partitions. In case of problem, you will have your tablet in its original state.
Swipe to Backup and wait during process.
Go to Home screen and continue with next chapter.
Save backup: still under TWRP recovery, connect tablet to PC.
Go to Mount menu and check Data partition is checked and MTB button is on "Disable MTP" state.
From Windows explorer, access tablet's memory and copy-paste the TWRP folder (located in root folder, beside DCIM and Music folders) somewhere safe on your computer.

Connect tablet to PC and use Windows explorer to copy files on tablet's internal memory.
Copy TWRP folder from your tablet to somewhere safe on PC.
This backup can restore your tablet to its original Samsung state.
Copy files of ROM + Bitgapps + Magisk on tablet.
Go back to TWRP Home menu. Then tap on Install > choose los*.zip,
then Add more zips and select bitgapps*.zip,
then Swipe to confirm Flash.
Wait for operation to end.
Again, go to Reboot > Recovery and swipe to reboot.
Optional: After restart, go to Install, select Magisk and swipe to flash.
Then tap Wipe cache/dalvik, swipe to confirm,
then Reboot System and on Install TWRP App? menu, tap on button Do Not Install
Wait for the tablet to boot.
It will be stuck with LineageOS animation on it's first launch. It is normal.
Force reboot using the Power and Volume Down buttons.
Now let LineageOS finish to start.
6) OPTIONAL: ROOT ACCESS
Configure Android as you like.
No need for extra work to be root.
Magisk launches with Android.
Superuser permissions can be managed from Magisk Manager app.
Open Magisk app (v23+).
Go to Settings > go to App Rename app to Godmode to hide hide.
Below, switch MagiskHide ON.
Now go to Magisk Modules tab > install liboemcrypto disabler and MagiskHide Props Config.
Connect to your Google account, download from Play Store Netflix and Disney+.
### If you are already connected to Google account.
Clear cache (Settings > Apps > All apps > Google Play Store > Storage > Clear storage) and restart tab.
Relaunch Play Store, Netflix and Disney+ will be available in SD.
7) TWEAKS
- Calibrate battery: https://www.ifixit.com/Wiki/Battery_Calibration

### If you experience battery drain, stick to 20220312 build (thx to @yoblo)
8) OBTAIN GOOGLE MOBILE SERVICES (GMS) CERTIFICATION
Google now restricts Google Play and Google apps access to certificated devices. Since you have a custom ROM, you are banned.
We now need to subscribe for the Google Play Certification.
Download Device ID (by Evozi) app from Play Store.
Launch app.
Tap on the Google Service Framework (GSF) line, then tap on the COPY button.
In your Android webbrowser, go to: https://www.google.com/android/uncertified/
Connect to Google using your Google/Android account.
In the input field of the page, paste the 16 digits code.
Click on the Save button, a success message confirms your device is Certified.
Then go to Settings > Apps > Google Play Store > Storage > Clear storage
Do I need to re-certify it ?
"Your device’s GSF ID is reset every time your device is factory reset (or when you wipe the GSF app itself) since it is stored in your data partition, so you must re-register your GSF ID every time you perform either of these actions."

Force Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 to restart
Hold Power + Volume down for 10-20 seconds
I have just followed this to update my T719 tablet. All seems to work other than the camera, when you try to open the camera app it freezes before eventually saying 'unable to connect to camera', then closes. Have tried another camera app but still get the same issue. Is this a known error?
Thanks

Hi, you have to be careful and download ROM according to your model.
EDIT: yes Data and camera are not working.
Sadly you won't find a ROM with these. Or tell me which one.
You may try this Oreo for camera: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-resurrection-remix-os-6-2-x-discont.3865882/

I haven't downloaded any custom ROM yet since I need the Radio Interface Layer funcionality as well as the camera.
I have the T819 (LTE variant) but I would like to have a newer Android version than 7 because some apps are not supported anymore.

i did every thing until wipe but afterwards my PC unable to see device folders so i can load the files
side note: didn't backup also so stuck on recovery screen
help please!!!
Thanks for this, works exactly as stated...
However I misread it, "### Camera doesn't work, 3G/Data network doesn't work" - I thought oh I don't care about 3G, I'm always connected to LTE without my brain acknowledging that it's all cellular connectivity not just 3G. DOH.
Is there anything available for SM-T817V? Looking desperate help to update Android 10.
Thanks

any particular build? there are multiple versions Thanks
When I boot, I end up back in the TWRP main menu. I've tried:
"Reboot System and on Install TWRP App? menu, tap on button Do Not Install" after:
"Then tap on Install > choose los*.zip,
then Add more zips and select opengapps*.zip,"
(advice given in another forum) but it makes no difference: LineageOS animation continued for several minutes, then I get into RECOVERY REBOOT and back to TWRP menu.

Thanks for your reply, djibe89 - when I do that (ie Power & Volume down), I end up back in TWRP.
Installed successfully by following your guide to a T (although I used the latest TWRP). I know support for this old girl has probably reached it's limit, but it was tough to find the ROM file (most links in the thread are dead - had to use one from archive.org)
Thanks a lot for putting this together!
