What themes are you using?
kinda hard to beat android 10 ui.
Liv Dark is the best theme, i do have to add a few overlays for other apps like maps which for some reason isn't in the theme.
Liv Dark is the only theme that has unread gmail headers in accent colour. And i have all themes compatible with synergy.

Is there any way to theme Google Hangouts and other chat apps or use a chat app that covers Facebook and Google, with a transparent background?
Holo Glass and other transparent themes are working great with the SMS app and I'd love the same thing with all chat windows... White wash isn't really my thing.

If you're on cyanogen mod 10,11 or the new paranoid android ROMs that support cyanogenmod themes you could always download the cm10/cm11 transparent theme. It makes all the background of your apps transparent and gives an amazing look.

Its still being worked on and has good development. You can email the developer for any apps you wish to be transparent.
This is the reason for the long list of transparent apps you see above.

What does that have to do with ui icons?
I'm looking for a ROM that has a true black theme system wide and the option to hide navigation buttons. Also would like it to be pretty much 100% stock Android or close to it.

Its not technically what you asked for, but I black out my UI with a RRO theme (which stock MM supports) and hide my nav buttons with xposed.
I use Pure Nexus ROM for this. It supports Substratum to black out the entire UI and Google apps. You will still have to flash the blacked out google apps but the only problem I had when I didn't flash them was with YouTube app. Some of the text wasn't readable. You can also hide the Nav bar with it.

Is there a way to get the stock Android 7 status bar icons ? I'm not a huge fan of touchwizz ones.. I tried different apps but they're not really friendly with the rounded corners.. I can't post images to show you what I mean but I think I'm clear enough..
Swift Dark for Substratum has stock clock, wifi, and cellular icons.
