LG Thinq app won't load on a rooted device, HELP? - LG V20 Questions & Answers

I have a few smart devices in my house. I am a HUGE LG fan, as I have used LG phones for my last 4 phones. Currently using an LG V20.
I have an LG Washer / Dryer as well as a refrigerator. All three of these items have smart capabilities which are controlled through the LG Thinq app.
I can no longer use my LG Thinq app.
I need help figuring out how this app is testing my phone for Root access, so that I can block their ability to test.
This would help Magisk's hide capabilities for the future as well.
I made a video of this happening on my phone:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1G7MoE4uzqlkEf7pIRo2yc1lMkWYhKXfe
Any help in figuring this out would REALLY help!!! Thanks
I don't really know where to begin. Is there something that I can do with ADB where I monitor the device's processes & do a pid dump to see how the LG Thinq app is acting?

Use magisk hide for those apps that wont run with root.

You can't do it like that, ADB gives you only what the app wants to give you in this case. I looked into the app and it checks rooted status by a native library. It would be possible to patch the app and make it run but then all updates are to be patched too. So it is better to post in Magisk forum as cnjax said. Or just use an older version and don't update.

Kaluna was right, the LG App was looking for Magisk. I rebranded it to be "Awesome Manager" instead of Magisk manager.
I got it working. Thanks.

Thank you for this tip!
I can confirm that using the "hide magisk manager" feature does get ThinQ working again!

This method is still working. I renamed mine "Magic Manager", rebooted and boom! it works like a charm

Hmm. I renamed the magisk icon and rebooted but I still can't open the app. Tried to clear app storage too. Am I missing something?

I've just hidden Magisk, cleared LG app data, run the app and it's working.

Not working for me in India

I posted a link on the first page to an older version APK. Go ahead and install and detach from the market. Or just don't update.

You renamed the icon, like in launcher settings?
There's an option in Magisk Manager to perform this thing in Settings - General. Something like 'Hide Magisk Manager', I can't really tell what cause it changes after using it.

Can confirm that this works! (12th of November). Magisk had to be repackaged and app data cleared in order for this to work. I also use EdXposed so I added ThinQ to a blacklist as well.

Hello.
I first had the same issue without having a rooted device/no magisk installed. Just a custom rom on my device (LineageOS). The app claimed the phone is rooted.
So I installed Magisk Manager, patched my boot.img with Magisk, set MagiskHide on and hid the Magisk Manager app.
It still doesn't work. Cleared Cache, reinstalled the app, restarted the phone etc. Nothing worked.
Last hope was the older version of the app but even this one wouldn't open. Any help there?

Confirmed. Added LG ThinQ to MagiskHide list and then in Magisk settings enabled "Hide Magisk Manager" (renamed to Magic Manager). App runs.

I would also like to confirm that changes:
1. Hide Magisk Manager option (from Magisk's settings)
2. Adding "LG ThinQ" application to MagiskHide
3. Clearing application data from "LG ThinQ"
4. Reboot my device
... worked just fine (at last) to my Xiaomi Mi9 running MIUI12

lG Access manager?

Hi, I've been using LG for a while and had been using a rootless permission manager to disable some permissions that arent named on the stock settings app. But it is not working on the v20. Its called "LG Access Lock" on the playstore. Anyome know of any similar that do not require root? I know root is available but I dont feel comfortable enough to risk messing up and bricking my one week old device haha. Thabk you in advance.

The app SD MAID (PRO) accesses all permissions (App Manager Section),but, unless you're rooted, that function does not work, nor does the disabling (freezing) function.
I suspect all apps similar to these have the same limitations w/o root access.

Looks like LG finally removed it. I used it on G4 and V10 but I used QuickShortcutMaker to get to it but it's not in settings anymore. Not really needed on Nougat.

SD Maid (Pro) actually does get into the permissions deeper than what is listed in SETTINGS > APPLICATIONS, but,you cannot toggle anything more than the stock settings unless you have root.

Access Lock was in LG builds since 4.3 and looks like they finally took it out with 7.0. It wasn't accessible just by going into Apps- permissions.

If you have Magisk, use the module. The thing os that Android seems to prioritize the app that's in data as opposed to the one on system. So what you have to do for it to work is get a file manager (i recommend the new Root Browser, it's probably the least bloated out there), go to /data/app, then find youtube (maybe com.google.youtube?) and delete the folder. After that just go back one folder and return again, check that it isn't there, and then go to Play Store and deactivate auto-updates (open the app description, and open the 3 dot menu).
If you don't have magisk all that stuff will work. Just remember that if Play Store updates the app you'll lose it until you reboot

There isn't a youtube folder where you instructed me to look. I think Titanium Backup removed it on it's own.
I might just have to reinstall this ROM, install Magisk, and use the module. Ugh spent all afternoon/evening unlocking and rooting this thing. Almost there.

I used Titanium to uninstall the original Youtube app that came with the phone.
I've rebooted twice. Still not showing up in either the App Drawer, or Data/APP folder.
Reinstalled the iYPTB via twrp again, rebooted, and still nothing in either locations.
I'm at a loss, almost ready to go magisk tomorrow.

You didn't have to do that... It might have uninstalled the /system/app one
One other thing. Use root browser to get to /system/app, find the youtube folder. Check the apk's thumbnail. If it is iytbp's then you almost definitely have com.google.youtube on data or auto-update on play

Using Link2SD When I click. "Integrate update into system" I get an error "System Device busy or Resource busy"
Update:
Flashed iYPTB again after reinstalling YouTube, and now it's the Vanced version! Awesome! Finally got my phone to where I want it
And yes, I unchecked auto update from the play store

That's the problem.
You need to have a working youtube app before flashing the iYPTB zip on TWRP, but you should clear data and cache of this app beforehand.
PS: I also have Magisk but didn't use the module.

Might just say to heck with it and reinstall everything with magisk next weekend. Working great as is right now though
This is way late but might be helpful in the future.
I've never had luck with the Vanced installer for some reason.
Anyway, awhile back @raystef66 made an installer with the black iYTB which worked perfectly.
Besides installing new builds manually one could also swap out the builds in the installer with a newer one, white or black, I guess.

I used it, it's nice and all but the Magisk module works the same and installs the latest version. Since you use microG you may not have trouble with auto-update, but sometimes I had to reflash the zip if play updated it (Auto update is disabled and still sometimes it just decides to ignore that...)

fortnight oneplus 6t

Solved - fortnight not working on rooted One plus 6t
Credits @gregwee
- Go to magisk manager and go to settings then rename magisk to random package
- Use a root explorer search for magisk. Rename files or folders with magisk in title. Only do files or folders you made. Ex not sbin/magisk
- Make sure you do not have USB debugging on in developer options.
- Install fortnight installer go to magisk manager then magisk hide and select fortnight installer.
- Reboot and run fortnight installer.
- Go back to magisk manager and then magisk hide and select fortnight.
- Lastly reboot then run fortnight as normal.

Strange I haven't played the game in a couple weeks and I just updated it and opened it and it works fine. Maybe I would try clearing the caches again maybe the play store and play services as well it could be talking to them. I'm no expert with this stuff I just know it can work lol. I've been trying to get Ghostbusters world to work since it launched off and on with no success.

Yeah I know. Idk what to tell you man. Maybe uninstall it re install, hide before launching, clear your caches before launching. All I can think of is to never let the installer or game run without being hidden. It could be it writes a file or something when it detects root.

Not sure if fortnight detects root the same way as Pokemon Go, but make sure that whatever file or directory in your phone named Magisk is either rename or removed in addition to hiding the games in Magisk and renaming Magisk Manager in the settings.

You've already hidden the Fortnight app in Magisk Manager, so I don't have to help you with that.
Rename Magisk in Magisk Setting:
1. Start Magisk Manager
2. Click on the 3 lines in the upper left and then click on "Settings"
3. Click on Rename Magisk Manager (4th item down)
Remove all files/folders named Magisk in the internal/external drive
1. Start a file manager like Total Commander
2. Do a search for "Magisk"
3. Remove/rename all files/folders that has Magisk in the name.

Question about Viper

I use Amazon Music with Viper Mod and Dolby. The problem I have is when I start playing my music I have to go into the Viper app. As soon as I open the app Viper kicks in.
Is there something I can do to kick Viper in automatically?
Hi, re-instak and follow instructions, instal as system app, u mess a step
Honeslty, I have never been able to get Viper working fully on my 6t. You might want to try removing the optimization in settings to see if that will let the app continue running. I think OOS just disables it after you don't have anything playing for a while.
I mainly play on my car Bluetooth when I am driving mostly a volume issue but do like surround sound as well
Have you tried making Viper a system app so that the process won't continually get killed?

[GUIDE][ROOT][(ED)XPOSED] Install Xposed using Magisk

SOME OF THIS MIGHT BE A BIT OUTDATED.
I haven't checked Riru for some time now. My school is killing me with assignments. When I have a bit of free time I will check everything and update this post.
Hello!!
In this thread I'm gonna show you how to install root with Magisk and install xposed.
First off all. This is how I did it. I'm going to explain it to the best of my abilities. However, if this does not work for you, or it resolves into a brick, its not my fault. Everything you do to your device it your own doing.
With that being said. Lets start!!
My setup:
Phone: Poco F2 Pro
Rom: xiaomi.eu Stable for Poco F2 Pro/Redmi K30 Pro
Android version: 10
Root: Magisk 21
Edxposed version: EdXposed-YAHFA-v0.4.6.2.4529.-release
Riru core version: magisk-riru-v21.3
EdXposed manager version: EdXposedManager-4.5.7-45700
What did i do?
I installed xiaomi.eu weekly first. But quickly after finding out that root doesn't work on Android 11 yet, I installed the stable which was still on Android 10.
So here are the steps what i did to install EdXposed
The files should be attached to this post as a zip, if you don't see them here is a link
1: Install latest Magisk 21.1
2: Install magisk-riru-v21.3.zip
3: Install EdXposed-YAHFA-v0.4.6.2.4529.-release.zip
4: Reboot phone
5: Install EdXposed installer
After I did this Chrome stopped working. Every time I wanted to open Chrome it just closed on its own. So I did a little search on Google and found a fix.
Thanks to Reddit user lkn194 for explaining how to fix this issue.
A quick step-by-step on how he/she did it:
In EdXposed Installer:
1: Go to settings> Framework> activate APP LIST MODE
2: Go to applications (Black list)> Leave enabled for:
• Android Services Library;
• Chrome;
• Google service structure;
• Google play services;
• Google play services for AR
3: Restart your device. After that you're done and Chrome is working
The first module I installed was CustoMIUIzer. Its an amazing addon mod for MIUI devices. You should definitely check that out.
This is the link
I hope this works for you as well as it does for me.
If you have any questions, be sure to say so.
Thanks for checking this out and have a great day!!
Welp the files weren't attached to that post, so here they are.

I installed xiaomi.eu weekly first. But quickly after finding out that root doesn't work on Android 11 yet, I installed the stable which was still on Android 10.
So here are the steps what i did to install EdXposed
The files should be attached to this post as a zip, if you don't see them here is a link
1: Install latest Magisk 20.4
2: Install magisk-riru-v21.3.zip
3: Install EdXposed-YAHFA-v0.4.6.2.4529.-release.zip
4: Reboot phone
5: Install EdXposed installer
After I did this Chrome stopped working. Every time I wanted to open Chrome it just closed on its own. So I did a little search on Google and found a fix.
Thanks to Reddit user lkn194 for explaining how to fix this issue.
A quick step-by-step on how he/she did it:
In EdXposed Installer:
1: Go to settings> Framework> activate APP LIST MODE
2: Go to applications (Black list)> Leave enabled for:
• Android Services Library;
• Chrome;
• Google service structure;
• Google play services;

Thanks for the tutorial, but just wondering; does Customiuizer work well for you if you've got phone security enabled? I ask because I tried it earlier after correctly installing edxposed on the latest stable MIUI EU, but once I had customised the settings through the app and rebooted to have them applied, all I got was an onscreen 'please wait' warning that just hung there forever.
After doing some online research, I found out that if the phones encrypted (fingerprint or password), the Customiuizer app gets stuck on load for some strange reason. If all security options are disabled, then the app will apply the customisations just fine (although at the moment not all features seem to work on Miui12), so just wanted to know if this happens to you as well... Thanks again.

Hmm. To be honest, I've never encountered that. I always disable the MIUI security checks. So everything works fine for me from the get-go. I guess you have to disable the security to get it working. I'm sorry to say so, I'm not much help here...

Thanks for the reply, but when you say you disable MIUI security checks, which options are you referring to? Is it something within the customiuizer app itself, or on phone settings?

I'm sorry, i didnt say what. I was referring to disabling the security checks on installing apk's. That all i disabled. I also did nothing with the Security app. I haven't even actually opend that app.
Try disabling the security for apk's check by going into
Security app --> settings --> Security Scan --> disable "Scan before installing".
I also didn't click on any "agree" button cus like i said, i dont use the Security app
Thats what i have. Nothing more nothing less.

Thanks, but I had already disabled "Scan before installing". I guess it's something to do with the device being encrypted, because once I remove any passwords or fingerprints, some of the app's functions do indeed work (eg.: advanced reboot, volume keys media playback control). I guess for the moment it's either no security at all or no CustoMIUIzer...
A small request if I may; if you have the time, could you kindly check if album art is displaying on your lock-screen while paying music? The option to activate this feature is under 'lock-screen' mods within the CustoMIUIzer app... Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the confirmation. Album art didn't seem to work when I tried yesterday...
In any event, it's all quite strange since I'm also using the same rom and configuration as you are:
Xiaomi.eu Stable for Poco F2 Pro/Redmi K30 Pro
Magisk 20.4
EdXposed-YAHFA-v0.4.6.2.4529.-release.zip
Do you have any password / PIN / fingerprint enabled?

Really weird... :silly:
Anyhow, will try and reinstall the app again later today and fiddle around with it a bit to see what could be causing the issue then...
Thanks anyhow for the help. :good:
Update: Tried it all again starting over from scratch, and this time the CustoMIUIzer app worked perfectly without any hangs. What I did differently was verify all permissions had been granted for the app and also enabled it to auto-start as well, and so far, it seems to be working fine.
Had a problem with the album art on lock-screen not applying, though, but after a few tries I managed to figure out that it was because of some compatibility issue with the default MIUI theme; it worked when I set the 'Classic' theme as default, and also used a static wallpaper instead of a live one...

No problem, thanks for replying anyhow.
BTW, I found out why the app was freezing... Seems it was because I had activated the 'no password after boot' option under the apps lockscreen settings... ?
Why not use Edxposed canary (5.0.6)?

Because for me, it didnt work.
Just wondering if you'd still suggest using the stable ROM instead of the weekly.

As of now, root in its whole doesn't work on Android 11. And because it only works for Android 10 there is no other option but only to use this on Stable.
Unless you want no root and just want check out the new features. I suggest the Stable.

Or am I missing something?

I dont know anything about root on Android 11. When i tried to install it on beta it didnt work. And so far I've seen only one person who said he/she had been able to acquire root on 11. If someone else can confirm this that would be great. I cant test it rn, cus of personal reasons, I need a stable phone.
for what you use Xposed?
