I'm looking for a unit to put in a '96 Volvo that's a project car for me. Due to the age there's not a lot of built in stuff to contend with and I'm planning on modifying a lot anyway.
From what I've been reading it sounds like PX6 based units are the most likely candidates for long term community support though it's still new. I had my eye on this unit from Amazon. I couldn't find a lot of specifics about it or if anyone else had something like it.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VT82FVN
Any general thoughts from the community on the unit, brand, etc? I'm hoping to get one of the larger Tesla Style screens. The car has 2din currnetly and a lot of wasted center console space. Any other specific unit suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You can get units much cheaper than that. I have a Xtrons PX6 headunit 4gb and 64gb android 9 10.25 screen. Screen only displays landscape and not portrait. I paid £260 approx 340 USD.
Definitely look at other sellers or manufacturers.
Have a look through the forums and see what people are saying about different models with the good and the bad points and then that will help you make your mind up.

I am toying with the idea of getting one of these android based head units. I give up waiting for the big boys to catch up and frankly I love to tinker.
I've read a little bit but the two units i see most info about ate Joying, indash and Pumpkin.
I am looking at the latest ones posted 5.1.1 7 inch. They will be going in a 2007
Silverado (no bose) and a 08 ford escape.
I see some Roms out there so what is the best unit to get that people are developing with. By best i mean good hardware, decent support, best lcd for daytime viewing, established vendor....
I am green meaning haven't messed with android chinese stuff in a while so need a little direction.

In another month or two InDash will have a unit specific to your Silverado. At least that's what they told me when I asked for my Yukon (same faceplate.) By that time I would expect a lot of their OctaCore bugs to be fixed.
I haven't seen much activity on the indash blog they have... Joying seems to have the most info - at least on their forum. I starting to lean more towards joying.. OR breaking the bank for the new Kenwood.
I want to put an Android stereo in my 08 Ford Edge. I recently bought a Blaupunkt San Antonio from Crutchfield and I had problems with the unit. After contacting Crutchfield, they said they would refund mt money when I ship the stereo back to them, so now I want to get another stereo.
I figured if I bought a brand name stereo ($550 incl dash kit and SWC adapter) and I had problems, I may as well try to save some money and get an off brand unit. I have been looking at Amazon.ca and I found this https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B071V3D4F5/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1A7AZJQAV8MAX&coliid=I1XSTAKQTFASPU Joying unit that looks promising. I have seen a few posts about a Joying Android 6.0 2GB stereo on XDA and I was wondering if it's the same unit and if people are generally happy with it?
Is the screen sensitive, as some stereos I have used need a little harder push on the screen to use it. Do I need an external adapter for the SWC? Does anyone know if there is a model with these features that plays DVDs? Does anyone have any pics of the back of this unit?
Thanks for the help,
Ian

Since you are new I'd say read the forums and do some searches. You have some questions that are sort of answered by reading around.
You mostly do not need an external adapter for steering wheel controls.
Don't bother with a DVD player these days. Moving parts in anything in a car will only result in things breaking over time. Since you can rip and play anything these days there is little need to take up space with the hardware.

I have been around XDA for years, but thanks, I do look new. I tried to search for the stereo, but there isn't any model number so searching is difficult. I also read a few threads, but they didn't really say much about the stereo, mainly they were talking about the software end of it.

You are new to android head units.
There are a few forums under Android Auto. You can look through them all. You are going to find that there are a lot of Chinese variants. Using search is probably the worst way to learn generally what's working.
https://www.google.com/search?q=define:stereo
By simple design all of these car head units are going to be stereo. Perhaps you mean something else like FM Radio, amplifier, pre-outs?
There are a lot of posts regarding Joying Sofia based units.
With your car you might want to take a look at the 8" units that Joying offers. You can go to their website. The 8" might fill out the space better if you like just having the touch screen vs the buttons on the unit you linked.
Sounds like you have some technical issues with head units. Any of these android units are going to generally have more issues than a basic head unit from Crutchfield.
Greetings,
I am looking to upgrade the HU in my MY09 Subaru Forester, because the stock one is hot garbage. I don't need (nor can I afford) the very top of the line models such as a $600 Pioneer.
I plan on running Car Launcher Pro as I like the simple and sleek OS, although I did just see the FCC launcher by SpeedFire. My primary uses for the HU are Torque Pro (although I may just run that from my S7), some form of navigation such as Google Maps or Wayz, as well as basic entertainment from Bluetooth, Spotify, and Pocket Casts.
A couple units I've been looking at are:
Panlelo PA-09YZ16- This was the first one I considered but I've been scared off by everyone's largely negative review of Panlelo products.
Joying JY-UL128N2- This looks like a strong candidate but I want to know more before shelling out any money.
(I would post links but since this is my first post I'm unable to do so, both units can be found on Amazon.)
Other than those two I am open to any and all suggestions if anyone has a unit they really enjoy.
So my question to you is which head unit will best fit my needs?
Thank you for your time and expertise!
Best Head unit on a budget
Thanks for starting this thread. (I'm new here too.)
How to choose between Joying, Xtrons, Erisin, etc ?
They all seem to have the same needed features, with only small variation/s, accessories, packaging.
Are they all as good/bad/faulty as each other ?
Another thing I wonder about.
IF these are all good products, why are NONE sold in reputable stores ?
Seems we can only buy these items on ebay and similar dubious places.

It's pretty much a tablet for your car. Doubt anyone would want to be liable for stupid/irresponsible drivers with tablet radios.
Hey everyone,
I have been searching and reading up on these android head units for a few weeks. Sounds like they really are hit or miss.
My Car: 2011 Toyota Highlander (no JBL amp), has oem backup camera, and oem bluetooth
I purchased the newest/greatest OKNAVI head unit (TS10 6gb ram, 128gb) on aliexpress, and had software and gps signal issues. After flashing with firmware provided by the seller among some other things they reco'ed, I am returning it.
So, here I am on a quest to buy something that works well and is dependable.
My research tells me that there are a couple better known brands with better customer support (Joying, Dasaita, and possibly Teyes). Any others that I am missing? Looking for a minimum of 4gb ram and 64gb storage. I believe the below units are all TS10 models, or at least the newer ones?
Joying: $400 including shipping
2 year warranty
Dasaita: $540 including shipping
1 year warranty
Teyes CC3: $409 including shipping
1 year warranty
I have an android phone and I want clean intuitive interface, screen mirroring, phone and music bluetooth, ability to add external amplifier (rca outputs/remote turn on), GPS nav, and steering wheel controls. It seems that all 3 units can do all of the above.
Would really appreciate everyone's opinion on which I should order based on your experiences.
Lastly, is the 4gb ram/64gb storage upgrade to 6gb ram/128 gb storage worth it? I don't care too much about space, but wondering if there is a significant difference on performance/speed.
Thanks yall!
There aren't any; you have to accept bugs, problems, and quality control luck of the draw. I'd think about these as being hobbyist devices.
You have listed resellers, not factory types. If anything you probably want to consider an MTCD/E unit, the Dasaita unit is HA MTCD/E.
Teyes and Joying are generally
FYT units. Suggest asking before you buy, so you know what you're buying. Since you're asking the question, I suggest there's more thought and reading involved.
Screen mirroring is probably going to be the trickiest. Why mirror when you have full android? Mirroring is flaky and gets broken often.

Really appreciate your honest reply as a newbie to Android head units. Totally agree I need to do much more research. I'm actually really confused about the MTCD/E units vs FYT, I'll do some reading to catch up. I think there are a lot of people in the same newbie boat as I am and a lot of the threads I have read are older so not sure how up to date that info is, as it is a changing environment.
These resellers use the same unit and customize it? I can be okay with some bugs and troubleshooting just want something that can do what is advertised. If there's anyway you could help me determine the difference between MTCD/E and FYT, I'd appreciate it. I'll be googling that tonight. There's so much info on xda, I'm just not sure what is relevant. I hate to even post this thread as someone will do the same soon, but hoping the community can provide some thoughts or recos. Thanks I'm advance bud!

Good point, tell me if screen mirroring is a necessity. I won't have a sim card for internet, my phone hotspot is 3g, and I want to have some decent NAV app. Only reason I was thinking that screen mirroring would be important.

Just as an FYI - These units are a hacked Android and not Android Auto.

As advertised
The resellers are typically creative with what they advertise. Promises are abundant.

I suggest AVOIDING screen mirroring as a requirement. This "feature" is often a hack and breaks regularly with Phone Android or iOS updates.
** If you want screen mirroring, suggest considering a genuine Android Auto head unit.
A list of officially sanctioned head unit can be found here. Anything else is a Knock off and should be avoided.
Android Auto Compatibility | Android
Android Auto works with hundreds of vehicles and aftermarket stereos. Check your compatibility here.
www.android.com
I have OKNAVI (TS10 WINDOW-THEME1) unit and I have no major issues - no freezes, runs fast, touchscreen works, there's no buzz or hum. My GPS is accurate to 2m. Original firmware from January lost GPS accuracy to 15m every so often, July firmware seems to have fixed that (strongest GPS signal is 51 and others in the 40s)
Besides not supporting NA 4G, my issues with the unit are cosmetic or functional - such as navigation voice cuts in/out instead of fade in/out, rudimentary, hard to use with only one user preset EQ. Lack of root is another. Also I wish I had an option for double press and long press steering controls like on TEYES.
After using 4GB/64GB unit, I think 3GB unit would be the minimum for Android 10 (I don't use default launcher however). If I was buying one now I would probably get 3GB Teyes CC2 Plus or CC3 just because it can be rooted and more options for steering controls, build in fan is also nice.
I think TEYES is FYE not TS10/TOPWAY like OKNAVI.
I just bought a head unit for the first time in years.. A Pioneer C5500NEX.
Only AFTER do I discover android units..
Anyway, I have been looking at them for weeks and cannot make up my mind.
I recently came across this brand. It looks good but you know.. the whole looks and deceiving thing...
Amazon.com
- I am not familiar with these terms like FYT. But I would like one that I can root relatively easy.
-4+gb of ram (6gb ram would be ideal)
-Decent audio quality and would prefer an optical output.
-A VOLUME KNOB isn't a requirement but would be nice. (Or any suggestions for wired remote controls)
-NOT vehicle specific. 9-11 inch floating IPS display.
-Any other recommendations are appreciated..
I've been looking at
-Joying:
Amazon.com
-Roadanvi
Amazon.com
-Dasaita.. also this is my first time seeing the "scout" models
Amazon.com
-EONON
Amazon.com
-ATOTO S8.. Which Verizon should I get?

Item #1,
As in read the forum articles that deal with that, you need to put some work in.

What is an Anything PX6, as there are different vendors.
Also, I think you mean modded factory ROM. It largely attempts to address bugs to make things work properly, like Things that just work in the latest FYT UIS7862 unit. My advice, look for an FYT UIS 7862 such as mekede. The MTCD/E/P/H units remain buggy and slow in comparison.
You probably don't know what is being discussed here because item #1.
It's not easy indeed, especially when manufacturers don't tell you things you want to know.
We recently released a blog article that should give you a very good head start:

-I wanted/NEEDED it in 10 inch. 11.6 is too much.
-No SPDIF or HDMI.

These arnt the worst things in the world but @ $600 with shipping I feel like I'm giving up a lot.
It does have a PX6 like he said so I guess that's good?
Can you link me some good articles..
I'm curious what kind of modifications/ROMS/ O.S/ et I can do with these Chinese head units.

Okay as much as I like Dasaita, it's probably not the right choice for you. You are looking to make a considerable investment and seem to have a good understanding of features you're looking for.
Here's our latest article that will help you greatly making the right choice of head unit. It reveals many secrets manufacturers don't tell you.
https://extrememod.co.uk/blog/f/android-head-unit-vs-android-auto-vs-bluetooth-stereo
Once you've read it, reach out to us on our Facebook page and we'll help you through FB Messenger to find the perfect head unit for you and pick a trusted seller on AliExpress to save you money.
I bought one of these and I think they use Junsun firmware. I'm still digging into mine but the model of mine is FF_866X which xda has a thread for. What did you end up getting?
