Android 10 Killed Smart Lock - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Questions & Answers

I use the Smart Lock feature to keep my phone unlocked when its connected to the bluetooth in my car or helmet com on my motorcycle. Since updating to Android 10, it doesn't work. Plenty of mentions on the internet, but no solutions I've been able to find. Being that the fingerprint scanner is complete garbage on this phone and its impossible to scan or swipe while riding my motorcycle, it's a bit of a bummer to lose this feature. Any solutions? Anyone else use bluetooth Smart Lock and have it working in Android 10? I've done the obvious like deleting and re-pairing, nothing seems to work.

Works fine with my wireless earphones.

Anyone else get these bluetooth issues? (hardware/software?)

My phone connected via bluetooth to my car no problems until yesterday. All of a sudden it stopped working, i noticed no other changes, so i proceeded to try to pair both from my phone end and the car, still wasnt working so i unpaired and removed the device from my car and phone and tried to repair, the car (2012 sonata) tells me to pair from the phone, and on the phone it cannot find the bluetooth of the car.
I was freaking out and thought it was the car, but i tried my tablet and laptop, andboth are able to pick them up, ive tried turning bluetooth on/off and restarting the entire phone,
Has anyone else experienced their bluetooth going out on the s5 yet?
and what do you think would help? factory reset, or manufacturers return for hardware error?

Have you tried pairing your phone with other devices than car? At least, it will confirm that your phone Bluetooth is working fine.

I've been experiencing some issues with my bluetooth in cars and with wireless headsets. it has annoyed me enough to search the forums today.
Issue with Pandora and bluetooth controls can pause, cannot resume play with MS530 wireless headset.
Issue with Pandora and bluetooth controls can pause, cannot resume play with 2012 Volvo S60 T6 R-Design.
Issue with Pandora and bluetooth controls can pause, cannot resume play with 2011 Volvo S60 T6.
Issue with Pandora and bluetooth controls can pause, cannot resume play with Aftermarket Sony deck in my truck (don't have the model handy).
Built in player sometimes has the same issues, I see more issues when the phone is locked. Fingerprint scanner on.
Today bluetooth locked up totally and had to reboot the device. I did not power down my headset before I left range of my phone and came back and it would not re-connect. I unpaired and attempted to repair and it would not. rebooted powered everything off and repaired and it started working again.
Bluetooth has issues on the S5 phones in my opinion. My iphone 5 has no issues at all with everything. locked or not. Was thinking of rooting to see if I could fix some of these issues as I prefer Android as I like the apps better and the openness to get stuff done.

No, it's not a S5 issue, it's an Android issue and it's been continuous since the beginning. These problems have happened with my previous 3 phones too, so don't delude yourself into thinking these are specific to this phone. Or that they will be fixed for that matter...

I disagree.
Bluetooth has worked on all the android models I've had in the past.
Past Android phones:
HTC Hero - worked great, slow though
HTC EVO - worked great
LG Nexus 4 - worked great
Motorola Zoom - worked great
Samsung Moment - Slow but worked
Samsung Epic - worked great
Samsung S3 - worked great
But if you want to blame the OS go for it. I think your alone there. Its a software issue with Samsung crap in my opinion vs security and all the bells and whistles they are trying to use. I think Android has nothing to do with the issue at all.
I have a moto headset with my s5 and no problems. Had no problems with same one on my s4 either so I wouldn't blame all the phones. It's electronics. Things can go won key when you have a lot of parts. It's probably just that. It happens. Even on iPhone's.
Sent from my SM-G900V using XDA Free mobile app
I have problems too. Very odd tho. I can pair my phone and listen to my music just fine. However if I try to use my gps while the BT is connected, no audio will cone from the phone or the BT radio. But as soon as I turn off thr BT on my phone, I can hear my gps through my phone just fine.
I haven't done a factory reset yet, but I have cleared thr phone from my car and re-paired.....still nothing.
The even stranger thing....every one in a while it will work, 9 times out of 10 it won't work. It has worked 2 times since I bought the phone, April 25th.
Never had a problem like this before, with other phones.
meh

As I reply to this one person said they have no problems, one said they have problems. I have had the same issues with syncing and playback on my 2 previous phones, neither of them the S5. There are idiosyncrasies that exist in the software (like any software ever) that just don't work sometimes. I don't know why we should think this phone would be any different.

Google / Motorola / Nexus NEEDS to support MirrorLink!

Google needs to start supporting MirrorLink on Nexus phones. I have a Nexus 6 and the Pioneer AVH-4100NEX.
Android Auto has been a horrible experience so far. It worked at first, for a couple of months, and then I don't know why (Android update maybe?) but suddenly it stopped working and hasn't worked since.
Even when it did work, there were some VERY annoying things:
1) if your phone is plugged into the USB cable, Android Auto launches, and as long as you're still plugged in I couldn't find any way to temporarily get out of Android Auto (such as if I want to check my email or some other app on the phone). Or if I want to listen to a YouTube video (or watch it from my phone, lets say I'm the passenger ok?), then I'd have to un-plug the USB which means my phone isn't charging.
2) The other really annoying thing is that Android Auto limits developers in how many screen clicks user would need to do to get to content (including, clicking the down arrow to browse through a long list). Where this is a problem for me for example, is my Spotify playlists. Android Auto will only display about 10 or so of my playlists.
So I find myself disconnecting the phone from the cable and just streaming over bluetooth.
In fact at first I was really upset that my phone was no longer launching Android Auto at all and stopped working with my Pioneer AVH-4100NEX, but now that I am just able to leave the phone charging all the time and have full access to my phone apps, all my spotify playlists, youtube, and am just streaming over bluetooth now I'm not really sure I even want to fix Android Auto.
What I really want at this point is to just MIRROR my phone screen to my head unit. This way no matter what I want to watch or listen to, it doesn't matter if "Android Auto" supports it or not. I can put on YouTube videos, or anything I want.
So this gets me back to Mirror Link, I don't know why Google or Motorola is not supporting it, MirrorLink from what I've seen should be another viable option for Android users (and for now I think a better option than Android Auto)
It seems it's being treated as something old/legacy but in fact I think it's a step in the right direction and something we should all have the capability to do with our phones.

You have to take into account the many laws in different places concerning cell phones and driving. In some places you can get a ticket just for having your phone in your hand while driving. And now they are cracking down even harder on it. Also some OEM have been known to block some cars from working with devices like that. It was found that one samsung device had a list built into the OS that blocked a number of different cars from working with Android Auto. This I can only assume came from the Car manufacturer.
Also on a side not there is no need to open another thread about the same topic you have already replied to. This is called spamming.

Is there a watch with GPS which I can lock down the interface of?

Hi all,
I'm looking at getting my toddler an Android watch so I can see where she is based on Android Device Manager, but I would want to lock down the interface so that she can't accidentally perform any functions on the UI.
Can anyone help me out with which devices I may want to begin looking at please? Or if anyone's done similar in the past I'd be keen to hear successes and pitfalls etc.
thanks in advance!
ADM doesn't work that way for android wear. Your watch won't show on the web page with your devices. For a.w., it only makes the paired phone ring.
I don't see android wear as a good solution for you, honestly. Unless you got an urbane 2, it would only work while connected to wifi. Locking the screen can be done, but I'm not aware of an app that will work without a bt connection to the phone. Glympse doesn't work without bt connection, it seems.

P10 Plus: BIG problems with bluetooth and correct sync

I've used 3 different phones with my FM radio bluetooth receiver - a device I am forced to use, as my cars bluetooth is too old - it connects for phone calls, but wont connect to my phone to play audio files, hence why i use this device.
LG v20 - no problems. P10 Plus? Different story.
Mid-song over the bluetooth device, it suddenly de-syncs itself and the audio starts playing over the phones loud speaker. Completely unprompted. So I disconnect the bluetooth device inb my car, turn it back on....then it suddenly reconnects with the phone and continues playing the audio without interruption inside my car. This happens several times over a 30-45 minute period.
Bluetooth should just be bluetooth, right!? Can this be a quality control problem? An issue to do with unlocking the device or installing something like TWRP? This combined with the aweful features/stock apps of EMUI 5.1 is really destroying the experience for me. Anyone else had same or similar issues?

I dont have this problem. Bluetooth is very strong and very stable. Try updating your phone firmware it might help
EMUI is very decent. If you dont like the layouts given, you are on android. So easy to slap on a different launcher.

I'd argue that EMUI is one of the main things that stand in the way for more people to switch over to Huawei. That, and quality control. I possibly have a dodgy phone, its just this device I am using has not had problems with 2 other smartphones.
I will update the firmware to 151 (latest in my region) as soon as I know how to do it safely (boot unlock, TWRP and root installed - dont want to lose any)

Similar Bluetooth problem with Huawei p10
I have similar problem with Huawei 10. Bluetooth connection doesn't work with my built in Media system. All other phone devices connect and work fine, but Huawei p10 doesn't work. I just posted my issue here on YouTube. You can find it by searching 'Huawei p10 Bluetooth problem'.
having same issue as yours. music wont play through bluetooth. :/
temp solution is delete cache in bluetooth share in APP and restart your device. but that only works for one time. if you want to connect another time, must do the same steps. I am sure it is a software bug
try powering the device off then hold volume up and power the phone on at the same time and keep holding volume up until you see a EMIUI recovery mode from there select Delete Cache data and when thats done click on Restart/Reboot the device then see if problem remains. I had todo this steps few times when google play store would hang on "Downloading..." status now and then, But when I got B170 firmware for my p10 plus it sorta fixed it and now installs properly.
P.S my issue is different but you never know, this might even fix the bluetooth issue. So it's worth a try.
Can someone please tell me how to connect to paired devices on my P2?
As stated, pairing works fine, but how do you actually make a paired device connect? I can't find any option in the EMUI!?

SMS sync / send from head unit

Hi all,
Happy New year
I see this has been asked lots before, but I haven't as yet found a simple easy solution. Has anyone ?
I want to access my sms / email from head unit over bluetooth ideally. Headers/ notifications would be nice too.
I thought about using a bigger device such as a tablet, but would have much the same issues Plus charging, storage etc.
Wont be used when driving but when I pull up and go through them and can respond. So not really interested in apps that read them as they come in.
Head unit is a new px5 erising, mtce running android 8 untouched. Works great as is.
Phone is stock S6, android 7. un-rooted. NO usb port. (can only charge wireless)
Happy to install any apps as needed.
I have tried several apps, such as botifier, btnotifier, carmode, easyconnection, hotspot control, several smart 'device' syncs and havent got any to work. Sounds easy but have a couple issues. I dont always have data on as on payg, as most apps seem to want.
Plus not keen on google apps reporting my every whereabouts so dont have Android Auto, telling google execs what colour pants i'm wearing to sell data to advertisers to hound me..
2nd I dont fancy turning on hotspot and messing around to pair up wifi. with every journey (although I have considered getting a small AP, router for the car for both devices to connect to and thus be on the same local wifi network if that helps.)
I'm aware there are about 15 different protocols for it to work on BT which is a p.i.t.a that I dont know which I have on either device. I dont (need to) play music or do anything else from phone.
So is there an android app yet that installs whats needed and just does the simple job of remotely without fuss or needing several trips round the moon to display / reply to my sms texts on my head unit while phone is in my pocket?
Thank you.
