GSam, Accubattery and stock battery app report different results - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Questions & Answers

Im monitoring my battery as i feel its not that great. Today i got 6.5hrs SOT over 20hrs with 10% left... At least that's what stock battery app and Gsam report. Accubattery on the other hand reported 8hrs 10min SOT over the same 20hr period.
I experimented a bit and i found that if you make whatsapp calls both GSam and Accubattery count SOT even tho your screen is off cuz u have ur phone on your ear. But they still count the SOT. In that case Gsam and Accubattery have the same SOT, and higher than the stock app.
But today stock app and gsam say 6.5hrs, but accubattery says 8hrs. So which app can i trust? And what do you guys think caused the difference in SOT?

Also, how do i see SCREEN OFF drain (total or per hour or both) in GSam app? In Accubattery it show you clearly on the front page, how much your phone drain while screen is off. Cant find that on GSam.

I did not as im not sure i can with my Mac. But I can access this screen percentages you posted with your screenshots, but the percentages are different than on Accubattery.
For example right now Accubattery says my screen used 2%, while screen off used 0%. Gsam says my screen used 0%, while screen off used 2%. That, and also Accubaterry show %/h for screen on and screen off.. Is there a way to get this on GSam?
So you have any idea, why Accubattery and Gsam and stock app show diffetent SOTs?

Screen Battery Usage When Off?

I am trying my best to figure out how I can squeeze extra battery out of the phone. I used to get 3-4 hours of 'screen on' time out of my Galaxy Nexus and now I usually less than 2h with best battery still being less than 3h and that's only when I am around wifi almost all day.
Anyway, in my attempts to identify the drain I obviously saw a lot of the same things other people did: constant wake locks and I know there are threads for that.
However, I have noticed something I do not know the answer to: GSAM reports that my battery uses roughly the same % of battery when the screen is off as when it is on. What the heck? I don't get how my screen uses ANY battery when it is off. Does anyone know why this is reported like this?

I've tried using it but it does not seem to work well for me. I set a custom ref. when I woke up and the battery was at 100% and it seemed to work for a bit but when I checked it 3 hours later after travelling to campus and attending class and it showed no data at all regardless of when I selected it to show me data from (since unplugged, since charged, since custom ref.) Does it not work with stock kernel?
In the mean time, GSAM is providing some good information at least for an initial diagnosis.
Are you implying that it is not correct in telling me that of the 31% of battery used by the screen 17% is discharged while off and 14% while on? It says: Discharge while on/off: 14% / 17%

Device must be rooted so BBS can work. Try going in advance and check alarms (root needed) SUPERSU will popup and ask for permission. Don't forget to refresh time to time whenever you open it to get latest numbers.

Battery drain on stock 4.4.2

Can someone please tell me why these 2 things are consuming so much of battery??
Although the screen on time is around 2 hours...
That's pretty bad screen on time. Normal use got me about 2h SOT at 70%. Check if you enabled sync or NFC.

sync is enabled, but nfc is not....
it has been since a few weeks, i don't know why!!
i remember watching movies on it for about 4-5 hours and battery left was about 50%
Disable sync. It takes up a lot of battery. If you can't disable, set sync interval longer or to manual.
will change the sync to off...and see if that has any significant change....thanks
No improvement even after disabling sync.
I noticed today a instant drop in battery percentage when I reboot the phone.
Also I found out in a thread about cupid showing the capacity as 2100 maH in some note 3...I found the same on mine...
Is it some calibration issue...??

First try to turn off the phone completely and turn it on again. Sometimes that may help.
Second, install Wakelock Detector to see which process eats your battery.

I tried Turning my phone completely off and then turned it on....still the battery drain was same..
finally i had to factory reset the phone, installed a few daily usage apps...and observed the battery backup.
i am getting a 27 hours of on time with 100% battery and screen on time is 2-2.5 hours for this period. Is it ok??

UPDATE: i managed to install wakelock detector using th tcp method i found, will update you after 1 or 2 charge cycles....thanks
What's the update on the battery issue? Which custom ROM are using on Note 3 now?

Battery goes insane

We all know the battery was perfect with M, we all know that since N battery drains way faster, but I've gotten used to that.. Instead of 5 SOT I got 3.5. Ok.
But now.. I hardly go past 2. Battery drains really fast, it's not even stable. Doze doesn't seem to work anymore, percentage drops each minute and a half, and now.. phone shuts down at 6% all the time. What should I do?
I'm a stock user.

You could install GSAM and see if it's an app causing the issue. You can also try turning bluetooth off completely for a day or two to see if that's a cause.
Worse case, you can do a full factory image re-flash. In my past experiences, most of the time, updating OS major versions never sat to well with my phone. I personally do a full factory flash-all after every major update.

Well that narrows it a little more than.
Actually, with a recent update, you can see now.
If you go to Enable More Stats, it will give you directions. I believe you need a file explorer, move one file to another location, and rename that file.
Software fault. The battery doesn't really charge fully, I've noticed that when my phone froze (literally) and it was on on 50%. I warm it up, says 1%.
After that my battery life is exactly half, which means that 1% is actually my 50% but the phone sees it as empty.
Check battery capacity with accubattery. Not completely accurate but it does give you a ballpark range. If the current capacity is way less than the specified spec, then you have a degraded battery
I agree with the Accubattery approach (or similar app) to measure the battery capacity. Several ppl have experienced degraded batteries.

Not unless you can get Huawei or Google to do it for free. I haven't seen any new genuine oem replacement batteries. They are either used or fakes that don't work right. Some don't even have a temp sensor. Accubattery shows 2876mAh for me and I get 4.5 to 5 hours sot on 6.0.1. Same as I ever got. After installing 7.1.1 with full wipe from factory image, same settings, same apps, same signal, same usage, I get 3-3.5 sot. On nougat my phone would intermittent turn off under 15%. Hasn't happened once since I rolled back to marshmallow 2 weeks ago. Either some people (like me) are using certain apps that consume battery without it showing on gsam and better battery stats, or nougat just uses more battery when the screen is on. I believe the latter.

I wouldn't think so based on that snapshot. I'd keep running the capacity test (documentation states accuracy is improved with time) and start looking very closely at individual services and apps for anomalies. If rooting is an option for you, wakelock and battery statistic tools are better able to return more accurate data than non-root apps. Absent any rogue apps or services, monitoring the capacity will give you a trend and likely answer your question about replacing the battery.

Ok, good to know.
Can you please follow this order of events?
1. The battery was as I've noted at the beginning of the post, drains fast and shuts down at 6%
2. I've had a factory reset.
3. I turned on the phone, clean and wiped, at 35%. It took me 1:29 hours to get from 35% to 7% [which is great!] but then at 6% it shut down again.
4. I turned it on right after, it showed 1%. It lasted for another 10 minutes of usage.
5. I charged it to 100%.
6. Then, when the screen is off, battery loses 2% per hour, and when I use it, it loses 1% every 3-4 minutes [which is great], BUT - sometimes it loses 2% at a time, say 80 to 78 and so on. I still don't know if the phone is gonna shut down at 6% or if it was already fixed.
Does that seem normal?

It doesn't seem normal to me. Neither the 6% shut down nor the increased battery drain. As I said, I had both issues to some degree, early shutdown, and much less screen on time. Since a switch to 6.0.1 fixed both issues I am lead to believe they are software problems, not hardware. Google responded on reddit that they are looking into the early shutdown issue about 10 days ago. Then there is also the sudden influx of bootloops of death after Nougat. My advice is to use Marshmallow until things become more stable.
You could go into accounts-Google and see if there are any syncing errors.. Facebook and Facebook Messenger are both known to cause big battery drains on Nougat. Gas Buddy used to be a problem as well but not sure if it still is. As another person suggested doing a full flash-all.bat clean install might fix your problem. Some people just go back to Marshmallow,

[HELP] Battery life??

I have seen better battery stats than mine. I don't know If something's wrong with my device (I have warranty tho so if it is, I can replace it)
I noticed that wifi is at the top of the list so I'm not sure what's going on.
I have greenify set for facebook because It destroys any battery. Also I disabled my location in case it was google now.
Accubattery shows 55% consumption while screen on (3h 29 SOT) while 38% of the battery gone while the screen is off (80% of that time is in deep sleep)
In the android's battery stats, wifi appears above screen in battery consumption.
Overall it's 16h 45 min of total battery life at 5% battery left.
I have seen 5h, 7h SOT so I don't exactly know what to expect.
I really need a hand because I can't let this pass if it's really a battery issue.
Thanks in advance.
Maybe you want to post a BBS log in this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/guide-extreme-battery-life-t3095884 to get proper help.

Nobody knows which device, bootloader status, dual sim, WiFi, apps, settings, rom etc. you are using. So please be so kind and provide these informations.
Also a full cycle of better battery stats is useful with all screens provided.
And as bullfinch110 said: there are threads(older) with battery tips
I'm sorry. I couldn't find a way to upload screens without external links and xda wouldn't let me.
Its xt1641, dual sim but i've only charged it with one.
Stock 6.0.1 Rom
Locked bootloader
Wifi is always on in that cycle. I've disabled today "enable wifi on deepsleep" to see what's up
I've also restored network settings.

What is the battery drain when you were on a stock ROM? First test your battery with Accubattery, then use a battery drain app like BBS or GSam.

Uhm.. well sir ive never ran this stock out of the box. Once i got it, i rooted immediantly. It has been sitting for almost 2 years since purchase until i had the screen replaced. Since posting this, i have reflashed my rom of choice and kernel clean. Going on day 1 right now with very light usage. (Attachment)
Running pure nexus 7.1.2 latest elemental kernel with glasscannon profile stock values installed via aroma. Only change readhead value to 1024. Gpu at performance profile incase i wanna game on the fly. Which happens only when im bored. I never tried accubattery but magic charging switch does have a command for checking the status of the batt ( see attachment) will get up on BBS to and will post results after a full charge.
Edit:might i add yes the wifi on whole time, yes i did use this to work light browsing and messaging during break. Yes i did listen to music via headphones and via bluetooth car audio. Phone was charged the night before around 11pm- woke up to 98% which was better than what i initially started with. "AAAANNND i did tasker sync to turn on only 15 mins for the whole day before i sleep. Sync being off from midnight till 1145pm, repeat.

I just need to see the stats without the phone being used, that's why charge to 100% the let it go into standby (unplugged) when you sleep and then when you wake up. Take a picture of the stat's and The kernel wakelocks can be fixed with custom kernel only.

Ok. Will do.
Using multiple battery savings apps like Greenify and Naptime doesn't really make a lot of sense and can actually cause battery drain. I use Naptime, Better Battery Stats and a Magisk module that allows Google Play Services to Doze with the rest of the phone. I leave WiFi and Location High Accuracy on all the time and I get 2% battery drain overnight. I also use a battery charging alarm to keep my phone charged between 40%-80% rather than a Tasker profile but I'm not sure if either method is more efficient in terms of battery drain.
