Is it possible to repurpose our beloved Xoom into a smart display? It would be nice if we can port the nest hub OS (Is it Android things?) into the Xoom and prop it up.
Is it possible? Are there any rom wizards out there willing to give this a shot?
That is a great idea! I hope somebody has the notion to do such a thing.

I was wondering since the iphone has Sonos if its possible someone could port it over to android. I would be and many others would be interested in buying this I know for a fact. I know someone is working on it and has been for a while. Just not fast enough. Anyone interested ?
Sonos controller for android
Hello,
I'am very interested in buying an app for controlling my donos audio system

Hi guys, I currently have a Droid X which I like very much specifically the DLNA and Xbox 360 sharing features, both of which allow me to wirelessly access my music, photos, and videos from my phone and computer on my Xbox Does the Xoom have this feature or at least does Gingerbread 3.x support it/plan on supporting it?
Also I read in one of the reviews that the miniHDMI out doesn't work directly from the device, rather it needs the dock and then from the dock you go miniHDMI to HDMI on the TV, is this true? (That wouldn't make much sense to me...)
All in all, I have to say I'm excited to be a consumer now-a-days, I'm leaning towards the Xoom, but I do miss certain apps from my Ipad of which there are no GOOD substitutes on android. Specifically, AirVideo which worked like a charm both over wi-fi and 3G and GoodReader, both of which I used religiously. I also hope that Netflix will have an android app soon. Besides that though, I must say if I don't get the xoom, I'm excited to finally start customizing the looks and basic UI, like I have with LP and Desktop Widgets on my Droid X.
Currently the xoom doesn't support dlna. Possibly in the future?
The HD dock is not needed to use HDMI out. Just hook up any micro HDMI cable and it works fine.

Edit: I was wrong. I found an app that works! I'm using 2Player. Give that a try.
Yes it has DLNA ... look for Skifta in the market ... and if you run into any issues use their tech support like i did in this thread http://forums.skifta.com/topic/tablet-support?replies=12#post-1164

Hi!
I was thinking to buy a netpc, and I'm looking for a Samsung N150, an acer aspire one or a Toshiba Mini NB250.
In your opinion, is one of them good enough to develop with android?
I'm afraid the AVD will be too slow...
Anyone try them to test app?
Or I need something better like a toshiba satellite C660?
Thanks!
I usually develop with my netbook Asus eeepc. Forget about the emulator AVD: it's too slow! It's better to switch on a device,m a cellphone, to test and debug apps.
For the develoipment, however, no problems, but forget it for the test/debug.
And what about a toshiba satellite?
I have a acer expire (tabletop) comp & wanted to develop for Android. After I had installed all the components for Android SDK & eclipse I found my comp 2 run horribly slow. Now that's not to say you'll have the same issue I'm having but I thought it might be worth mentioning.
If you happen to be leaning towards the acer maybe just take a real careful look at the specs. Android has the minimum specs your comp should have to develop for Android on they're site.

I am still looking for information on the docking connector pin out for the Iconia A500. If anyone has ANY info on where I might get that information please let me know or send a PM. I want to bring a Docking Cable / BreakOut box to market.
Let me know!!!
Thanks in advance!
sanaell seems to be someone who might know of, of have access to, that kind of information.
I don't know for sure of course, but a PM wouldn't hurt.
Good luck!
I am not able to give the information at this moment because my external hard drive who contained some precious document get some diving lesson and is learning how to speak with the fishes....
"simple version, my external hard drive fall in the ocean"
I try to get my documentation as soon as possible....
haaa my gosh... I was so happy to find back a save,.....
A501... oh... A...amiga....
Buy the doc take it apart and fallow the leads and some testing might give you the answers. Don't think Acer would do so.
Hmmm....

Documentation if I can get it, beats purchasing something that everyone says doesn't do enough for a docking station and taking it apart, and tracing leads and hoping I don't short something. I'm hoping to give us Iconia users More functionality, and not duplicate the foibles of and overpriced, an underspecified POS.
Should I not be able to Get said docs, I will undoubtedly get one and destroy... for scientific purposes...That docking connector on ourA500 Has to do more than what the current dock can do...
if we can get the pinout id sure love to do some stuff with it. Being an ee major I'm always looking for stuff lie this to do. I hope it comes before my summer ends.
What can the port do
If somebody has found this info, please post!
I'm anxious to see what that port is actually capable of. The dock Acer has now is pretty lame. It can only charge, pass out audio, and maybe HDMI (there seems to be conflicting info on this, trying to get to the bottom of it).
Surprised there's no USB on it.
Just saw the dock for the Toshiba Thrive... would love to see if Acer could ever release a proper dock like that one.
Thought id just drop by and post this. I opened my dock last night. You can clearly see where a HDMI port and controller would go, also a microcontroller for the IR input.
The plug is a 40 pin plug.

Power up tablet throught dock port
Anyone knows if it's possible to send a signal to power up (as if you push the power button) to power up the tablet?
I know that they have a powerbutton on the remote but i don't know how to do it to start it.
Thanks!
Good Luck...this beast needs a dock
My first tablet was a wifi Xoom that I got the speaker dock for it. Use that as your starting point. That dock could do it all, it has hdmi out on the back and the speakers are built in the dock. I,am sure you want to be able load data also, plus look good holding your tablet. This one tablet that could use some serious love on decient accessories. If you can bring it too market I,ll check it out... I know I passed on Acer Portfolio case the leather like clips to hold my tablet looked weak as hell. For $39.99 from BestBuy they could kiss my butt on cheap ass crap, I wont be buying it. I a truck driver by trade and I,ve always spent lots of cash on gear for the road that's light, portable & durable. That Xoom I mention earlier, is in the hand of tech savy 8yr old. talk about geek 2.0, which she choose too root before the update. Now she switches themes whenever the mood hits. (Just like a Women) I myself would like to see what could out of the colabiration in the forums. So if there any thing I could do too help let me know...bye for now.

I have always wanted to try out a raspberry pi or to see a good video breakdown of mirroring the display. Hopefully the Miracast standard will take off but I heard you can't be connected to WiFi and use miracast at the same time
I would also like to know some options

Has anyone made progress geting Nexus 7 mirroring working to a TV/Monitor?
I feel this tablet is sooooooo close to PERFECT except for this one thing...
no mirroring on Nexus 7
Hello there, this is the first time i reply. I have my Nexus 7 it's perfect in many ways but this is an epic fail. I have made a little research and i don't see any way to mirror th N7 exept the Raspberry pi way, I don't get why Google would blocked their first tablet from mirroring if it has everything to do it. I hope someone can make an easy solution soon.
I started this thread. I found some links that show android mirroring. Check it out.

I don't think that "didn't implement" means the same thing as "blocked". OTOH, I never saw the (apparently short-lived) marketing claims by Google that said the N7 would do it.
This post

seems to suggest that there may be specific hardware performance limitations that make it improbable on the N7.
There are some threads on XDA (& other places too) where folks talk about their experiences attempting either WiDi or Miracast connection with the N4/N7/N10.
I haven't seen any reports of success with either on the N7... despite the curious WiDi option in the display settings in stock 4.2.1 on the N7... what's it for?
I was aware of all this prior to my purchase, but bought the N7 anyway. I'm still hopeful that something will happen in a future update; Miracast is still relatively new... Netgear is shipping their 3rd PTV device, and they are not yet Miracast certified.
