I was buying a secondhand oneplus 6T but the imei on the back of the device was different from the imei in the settings. The dude has also lost the box so also can't match the imei from the box. Does this mean if the device is refurbished or back changed? Also I have seen some pictures on internet of 6T and there is no imei on back of device but the device I was buying had one, how is this possible?
Either he changed with a tool, or the mainboard was changed.
Normally you pull the silver sticker of your device and place it somewhere on your Box, but some people does not it.
Also I dont know if in case of a replacement Mainboard the new IMEI is the same as your old one or if there is a new IMEI on the replacement Board.

Is it possible you have a back case replacement? They would not match.

On the back of our Nexus 7s we have a sticker residing at the bottom. This sticker contains the serial number and I hate it. Is it ok to remove. I know I'll be trolled for posting this but here's my point; Wont Asus need that serial number if I sent it in under warranty? I still have it on the box after all.
Thanks,
A sceptical guy

IRC, the serial number is stored in the firmware, when you connect to the device via ADB it displays a Serial number, so if Asus needed it they can find it. Just remove the sticker and put it in your box, if you don't wanna chuck it, if you're not too OCD:silly:

Ofcource. xD I forgot about that, uh, yeah I put it in my box :L :good: Thank you.
It's also printed inside the unit, under the back cover.
I purchased 3 g2 d802 from ebay (HK top rated seller)
The phones came rooted.
When i check for system updates i geg the message "your phone is not registered yet" on 2/3 phones. 3rd one says "no update available".
When i check imei at lg site its not recognized.
Seller says phones are ok and it is probably a mistake.
Im afraid if the phones are stolen lg will block them, can they do it? I know google can....
Maybe the phones were indeed stolen and the seller changed the IMEI to a random one because the original IMEI was blocked. You can remove the back housing and check if the IMEI that is written on the sticker inside the housing is the same as the one reported by the device when you enter *#06#.

Imei number is the same at the sticker on the back and the *#06# and the settings.
The question is - in case it is stolen - can my phone be blocked in the future??

Yes.
My phone seems to have caught a case of sudden death. There's no response to any hardware buttons, no download mode, nothing. That part I've given up fixing.
Being a smart user(I like to think so), I've got backups of my backups, including my EFS partitions, from TWRP.
I'm going to fix my phone by taking the logic board out of a broken screen phone I buy on eBay, but the seller isn't sure about the ESN status of the phone and hasn't responded to my messages. (seems fishy to me too)
In the event I do buy it and he is a dishonest seller and *illegally* sells me a stolen phone, but disappears off the face of the earth after I buy it so I can't get a refund... His profile has him listed as a top rated seller, but just in case...
Long story short, if I do end up stuck with a bad ESN/IMEI after all this, what would I be able to do to change the IMEI to the old, dead logic board's number? Would it be as simple as reflashing the EFS, or would that cause other problems?
Look guys, I know typically it is illegal to change an IMEI, blah blah, but I've done my research and (in the USA) you can legally do it if you own both devices, and you will never be using the "donor" device again. Seeing as it's broken, it certainly can't be used again.
I've seen some horror stories about data in particular and I can reflash it comfortably, I just need to know if there's any device specific issues with reflashing the EFS like on Samsung devices.
I've installed Cyanogenmod 13, didn't backup EFS and phone doesn't have correct IMEI when I use stock ROM.
so, I sent my device to Samsung service center, hoping they fix it
they called me today saying that they need to change the motherboard because there's no other way to fix IMEI, and they want 220$ at least.
are they correct?
Maybe ?
What is the issue with your phone ? Why did they need to replace the motherboard ?
Yes, OP, they will have to change that motherboard in an official service center. GSMA rules currently forbid changing the IMEI of GSM terminals.
You'll get a new motherboard, with a new IMEI and a new IMEI sticker on the back of your phone.
Alternatively, you can take it to a shop that has a Z3X-box/Octoplus box, and have it flashed with a new IMEI. Should be ~$10.
This happened to me back when I had a Note 3.
changing IMEI is illegal, but $220 is so dang expensive for a motherboard. You can say yes to samsung, or you can buy another phone with broket screen (same model) then swap the motherboard...
Seems I'm lucky to live in a place full of hackers and pirates xD
I found several shops that use z3x box, will try to look for the lowest price offer
Just got my device back from the Texas refurbish location. When I opened my sim to put mine back in, there was an AT&T one in there? Now the device I got back had a new front on it, but the serial number on the back was the original one I had? But on the phone, they said they don't fix existing devices, just swap with a new one. The issues I was having was battery (the common one...) and it was frequently dropping signals. Any idea why there was a sim in there?
