I noticed this past December that my unrooted stock Nexus 6P battery life was unacceptable the colder it was outside but now 6 month's later in summer the battery life lately has become unacceptable regardless of temperature. In December just past my 1 yr warranty, I called https://www.ubreakifix.com/google-repair/nexus-6p-repair/nexus-6p-battery-replacement & was quoted $89.99 for a new battery replaced by them (90 day warranty), is that my best option?:good:
I'm backing up its data now via AirDroid to my pc, is that the best way to copy data from an unrooted stock N6P or what do you prefer?
Regarding 2017 device upgrade options, device maker's even the new essential phone which claims to be a consumer oriented company from Android founder Andy Rubin doesn't seem to care anymore about user replaceable batteries for consumer+environmental friendliness. I still have a Samsung Note 4 which is so easy to battery swap so it's frustrating to see so few options for new smartphones with user-replaceable batteries. I did consider the LG V20 with its easy battery swap which can be bought for so much less now than when released which I would have bought if it had front facing stereo speakers like my Nexus 6P & Motorola X Pure that new flagship phones also no longer seem to care about with the bezel-less trend but stereo speakers may still show up in at least one of the next Pixels or Samsung Note 8. I also checked out the Samsung S8+ when it first came out but wasn't blown away yet may take another look if Essential Phone, Pixel 2, Samsung Note 8 reviews underwhelm.. I also checked out the Huawei Mate 9 but wasn't convinced it was enough of an upgrade over the Nexus 6P. I'm almost tempted to buy an inexpensive LG V20 largely for the user replaceable battery but not sure that's enough of an upgrade over my Samsung Note 4 or my Nexus 6P with a new battery..
Thoughts on 2017 device upgrade options for those who still value user-replaceable batteries ideally with front facing stereo speakers or should those be considered features of Android's past?
Appreciate any helpful replies,
After seeing the disappointing specs on the new Pixel 3 XL I think I will give the new Pixel a miss, just wondering what else everyone thinking of getting instead of the Pixel 3 XL?
Next years pixel 4 without a flippin notch!! (Hopefully) My P2XL has got plenty of life for another year. And it doesn't have a flippin notch!!!
I'm thinking of getting Oneplus 6
Have no clue yet lol.

I totally agree.
I don't like the notch in general, and I've really hoped Google will not go with this (ugly) trend, but they did.
Because the next Pixel XL gets "notched", this is the first time since the LG Nexus 5, I don't want to have the newest Google Phone.
My Pixel 2 XL is my favorite Pixel Phone so far and I'm happy to keep it one more year as my daily driver.
Is anyone considering the Note 9? I'm thinking about it but maybe I will just wait until the S10 comes out. This was my first Pixel phone but not sure I am going to stay with Pixel after this.

Don't know, need to do some hand's on with Fall releases....
I'm extremely satisfied with my Pixel 2 XL and for once I'm not itching for an upgrade, especially after seeing the Pixel 3 XL specs.
Next year will be the better upgrade, been reading the Snapdragon 855 is supposed to a big leap forward, way more efficient, better battery life, but also a lot faster. And I'm sure for the Pixel 4 they'll add more RAM like 6GB or maybe 8GB then.
I'm just gonna hold it this year.
I also am very happy with my xl2. The 3 seems like a marginal upgrade. Same with all other flagships this year. None have major breakthrough features. Will probably wait until the xl4.
Although I am wondering since the xl3 is huge, maybe the regular 3 will be a good option if I were to upgrade. Come with latest hardware, not notch. If I can pay a few hundred after trade in I might consider it.
Agreed. I would love to swap phones yearly but coughing up the money up front and selling the previous one for as much as I can get is too much hassle for me. Plus I'd have more fun with a more significant updates than incremental ones.

I've been using the Note 8 for the last 8 months or so. Before that was a few months with the S8+. Before that was a string of Pixel XLs and Nexus devices. I just ordered the Pixel 2XL to try out Android Pie, so I'll be skipping the P3XL. So I guess the P2XL IS my next phone. Keeping Note 8 though.
Might just wait for the next pixel. Don't like notches at all and looks like Google decided to put the biggest notch ever on the 3 XL. I won't get the OnePlus 6...people think it's the best android for, for value yes, overall no, it still falls short in areas other flagships don't.
Probably pixel 3 or op6t for my mom but I'm not leaving my pixel 2 xl atleast for another year

Best device I've ever owned. It runs great on Oreo. None of the Samsung jank that I experienced with their older devices. I've had an S7 Edge, a S3, and a Note II in the past. As well as phones from about every manufacturer, including Apple, LOL. So I'm able to compare it to a lot of phones.
TouchWiz, or the Samsung Experience as it's called now, really isn't bad at all. And I use the SPen, Samsung Pay, and Samsung Pass daily. It's why I can't get rid of it completely. The P2XL will be to just play around with and carry when I feel like switching it up. Note 8 will remain my main device.
I'm considering the Note 9 but not sure I want to go any bigger than what I have now.
Just got the 2XL in February so not really a need to upgrade. Also have an S8 sitting in a drawer that the 2XL replaced. Am thinking of picking up a Note 8 after the 9 release.
Probably just wait for the Pixel 4, maybe buy the watch or pixel buds if they aren't terrible.

I have a Note 9 as my primary phone, and a Pixel 2 XL as a work phone. For awhile, Nexus and Pixel devices had a huge advantage in terms of speed and smoothness. However, after using a Note 9 with 8 GB RAM, I can honestly say the Pixel 2 XL feels slower and buggier. Sure, the camera on the Pixel 2 XL may be slightly better in certain scenarios, but virtually everything else is better on the Note 9. I know timely updates are also a consideration but Google is in a weird experimental phase where newer isn't always better. I've always been a fan of stock Android but is anyone else feeling like it's lacking a great deal of customization and useful features? I'm also a bit puzzled why the Pixel 3 XL is limited to 4 GB RAM, when 6 or 8 GB could have really boosted multi-tasking and gaming. The price is astronomical for such mid-range specs. which likely won't perform much better than the Pixel 2 line. If it weren't for locked bootloaders, high end Samsung and LG phones running Project Treble ROM's would blow Pixels out of the water. What are your thoughts?

On point.. I am keeping my pixel 2 only for camera.. my wife has Note8 and gone are the days of Samsung lag.. though it's not as snappy as Pixel 2, Note8's other features out weigh pixel 2
To be fair, we shall see how the Pixel 3 XL compares in speed tests, but 4 GB RAM doesn't seem like it will cut it for power users. I'm also pointing out that other manufacturers have optimized their UI enough that there is no longer the disparity in smoothness that gives Pixels an advantage.
For me the pixel 2xl has been exactly what I expected and wanted.. zero bloatware, fast updates, storming camera.
As for Samsung phones, my opinion had been for a long time that they make possibly the best phones out there hardware wise, but the android experience on a whole is rubbish. Bloatware, Bixby, slow updates.
Why there is no switch in Samsungs software to make the phone run stock Android beats me. I'd sooner have a Nokia 8 /Scirocco over a Samsung every day of the week.
However what really annoys me is the reviewers from various websites..
Looks last year because it's not quite full screen blah blah blah and then complain about the pixel 3xl having a notch !!!
I'm happy to have a border top and bottom and have stereo speakers.
No wireless charging on pixel 2 winge. Well I'd sooner have the aluminium back if I'm honest. Less to break if dropped.
Reviewers will be still pissing and moaning when it costs people as much as an iPhone to repair a back glass panel.
If I was in the market for the pixel 3 this year, I'd be going for the 3 and not the XL purely because of the notch on the XL.
As it stands, the Mrs has ordered the pixel 3, coming from an s7 edge and my upgrade will coincide with the pixel 4 next year.
I am really excited about the pixel 3 software enhancements trickling down to the pixel 2 like call screening.
Either waiting on Google to update or the geniuses on XDA porting it out.

Agreed. I have a 2xl. I ordered the 3 XL and cancelled it the same day. My 2xl runs amazing still. All I get would be a notch. I don't take crazy pics at all. One thing that bugs the hell out of me about pixel is the apps in memory. It's kills the so fast, especially my stock messages app! It's annoying as hell. I have always hated on samsung but have seriously been considering switching it up completely and getting a note 9. Plus Samsung will give me more than Google for trade in!
And you know, Samsung is explosively better.....

From my personal experience, the most snappiest and best ram management was with my OnePlus 3. Yes even compared to my Pixel 2 XL.
Updates were also decent with OnePlus.
More RAM doesn't hurt, and the Pixel's RAM management is poor (really bad compared to the OnePlus 3) and therefore it can really use a boost in RAM. It has also been documented by others that the pixel does slow down overtime and I myself have noticed it.
I do clean installs very regularly and I do not use the restore functionality that Google offers; I always setup from scratch. I even avoided a factory reset for two months as to allow the phone to learn my usage to get better battery to no avail.
I have used a lot of Samsung devices through the years and they have been getting better with each generation in terms of their performance.
I like the Pixel's camera and clean UI. However, this will be my first and last Google phone until the foreseeable future as I do not like the design choices and performance to cost ratio.
OnePlus also has had privacy scandals and the reason for my move from the OnePlus was because of the lackluster camera.
For those of us on Verizon, our options are limited for a clean experience. It's either buy a Pixel direct from Google, buy a Samsung made for Latin America or China with an unlockable bootloader and go through activation hoops, or buy an Unlocked US Samsung or LG which gives decent options without needing root or ROMs.
Seeing a OnePlus 6 with 8 GB RAM for under $600 does make you question if Pixels are overpriced. If they'd have released a Pixel Ultra with 6 or 8 GB RAM with no/ a smaller notch, I'd have gotten it.
Also note that one can easily get an LG V35 ThinQ or Samsung S9+ for $300+ cheaper.

Hi guys,
Apologies if this is the wrong thread but wasn't sure where to post this.
Quick question....
I currently have the s10e. Is it worth upgrading to the note 10, s20 or s20+?
Main things for me are battery life, portability and performance, not bothered about the camera as I hardly ever use it.
Thanks

I am in an extremely similar situation. I had the S10E since its launch day and traded in to upgrade to S20 on s20's launch day lol
It costed me 1050 canadian dollars (after tax) after the trade in.
I love it. Better battery life, better performance for sure.
With a smart phone, i just use SNS and read news. So how the screen looks and portability are the top 2 criteria. That was why I bought S10E last year.
The S20, well, 120Hz is amazing and the punch hole is about 1/2 the diameter, such a great upgrade on the screen. As for portability, S20 is a tiny tiny bit narrower, and about 1.5cm longer, which is not too bad at all, given that using it with one hand is still very easy.
As for camera, having a telephoto lens, well, is definitely better than not having one lol
So the upgrade is very noticeable. I would say it is a much better experience.
One thing about portability. The s20 is likely to be the most portable flagship of 2020. I was waiting for news on the Oneplus phones and Redmi k30 pro earlier this year, but found that they are very likely all going to be noticably bigger than the S20, especially the width.
Knowing this, i just instantly decide to get the S20. No need to wait for the other ones at all. Physical form factors are not something that software can make up for.
hope this helps.

Looks like the price will be set around $1600 with hopefully decent trade offers for our Note 20/ Ultra. Possible S-Pen full integration but the battery size is a measely 4300-4500mAh which right there if true is a deal breaker for me. I'm expecting at least a minimum of 5000 mAh for me to shell out any of my hard earned moolah.
What do you guys think?
Not going to till it reaches same durability/waterproof level. IMO benefits we get are not worth the price bump.
I'll consider it if they offer a trade in of 900$ on my note 20 ultra. Samsung are wankers, they want all their cake and eat it to. Of course they didn't make a note 21 ultra or whatever, because they are hedging on us bafoons to bend over for their beta program.

By the normal yearly Samsung trade in offers, it'll probably be somewhere in the $700-$800 range. Now since they know that they've screwed over their loyal Note customers by skipping the 21 this year- they might sweeten the pot and increase the trade in value closer to your range.
The question is- are you willing to live with a dual screen fold 3 supported with a mediocre battery and the other compromises like the ones mentioned by Elastep above.
Nope. Will be upgrading from Note 20 Ultra to Pixel 6 Pro if all of these Pixel leaks turn out to be correct. Been running Samsung devices the past several years waiting for Google to put out some decent hardware. One UI is cool but prefer the Pixel software experience.

Just looked up the pro and it looks mighty tempting. Never owned a pixel before but by all accounts the stock android experience doesn't tax the battery much so we should see exception SOTs all around. Supposedly will have 5 years of updates too.
This will be my fall back option if the Fold 3 doesn't meet the minimum battery specs that'll meet my needs.
The battery life will be definitely awful on the Fold. I was hoping to upgrade from my old Note 10 plus to the new fold but after knowing that its battery is even smaller than the N20 Ultra's, I decided to go for the N20U. Add to that carrying a power bank with the already bulky fold phone will only add insult to injury.

I'm no engineer but still I keep wondering why they're skimping on the battery.. It's not like they don't have enough room which I don't think is the case so I think it all comes down to risk vs reward and they're taking the very conservative approach keeping in mind the whole Note 7 fiasco.

two factors. First of all they want to cut the price tag, and they want to make it slimmer than the Fold 2. But in both cases, we will be getting bad SOT. I bet that reaching 5 hours SOT will be a miracle
Thinking to skip Android all together... Fragmentation is just too much and till today Google couldn't come up with a viable solution. Adding to that major version upgrades in Android is just stupid compared to Apple... I hate Apple but I have no choice

Actually, not true... SDXC should be able to support up to around 2Tb( this number has been reported for years now) , however, 1Tb is the largest card you can get at this time...
LOL, all you guys must be from the states... Throwing around numbers like $700 - $800, I live in Australia. We get truly shat upon by Samsung.
For the S21 I was offered a $500Aud trade in on my Note 20 Ultra, that is less than $400US...
We get crap pre-order bonuses and get everything last...
The Fold 2 retailed for $3000Aud over here. The Note 20 Ultra was $1700 which if you do the conversion is about on par however the trade-in bonus was a butt load less...
Oh the problem of getting only $700-$800US discount. .
The REAL problem with the fold is the internal only storage. Using a note I tend to load up everything onto the sd card. I back up anything important there too as I've had less sd cards fail than phones get corrupted...
With fast charging improving, hopefully battery technology getting better, power isn't so much of a problem but storage really is. It costs too much here in Oz for data plans to use online solutions...

With the saturation of phones out there it frustrates me to no end that none of the high end versions outside of the Asus Rog Phones have 6000mAh spec'd batteries. Low end ones and some mid tiers have those batteries but none of the flagships do.
I guess it's because they all know they won't get repeat customers upgrading their phone every year and their power banks and other belated battery related accessories will go out of business..
