Possibly bricked device - Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Questions & Answers

Hello to everyone and Merry Christmas. I have a Redmi Note 7 Global EU (codename: lavender) which i managed to unlock the bootloader on the first try. No waiting time for me ^_^ Anyway i messed around with TWRP at first then OrangeFox and i also used Adb for a while. Everything was good until i accidentally deleted the recovery using adb (so far the phone has no recovery at all. neither stock or custom and is able to reboot only in Fastboot Mode). Before that i flashed the Miui 11 Rom because i was on miui 10. I went to settings and formated the phone believing that it would go back to Miui 10 but apparently it deleted the rom so now im stuck with a phone that has no recovery whatsoever and no software to boot to. I really hope someone can help me guys. Feels free to ask anything more "detail-y" and sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance happy holidays everyone.

It only boots in Fastboot Mode.

Go to fastboot mode. Install twrp and flash a rom (use sd card)
Then flash magisk (optional), obviously flash disable dm verity. If internal storage encrypted then you have to use sd card and search for solution.

OS wiped accidentally from TWRP recovery

I accidentally wiped the OS from advanced wipe option. How do I get my phone to work again. I tried to operate adb sideload from recovery but it failed. I have downloaded the stock rom but I do not know how to install it.

How do I download it to my phone if I cannot boot into it. Is there any way I can copy a zip file (rom) onto the phone's internal memory.?
Your phone should boot into recovery, so as long as it goes on and boots all u do u is use ur pc to move file over and flash it...

Boot into bootloader (hold power and system on), flash the though recovery through adb, mount your .zip,, flash your .zip through recovery. Sorry if that doesn't make sense, I've been drinking with the roommates, lol.
Edit: if that doesn't work, send me an IM and I will help you in the morning

Which state is your phone in right now? Is it bootlooping or in recovery?

The same thing happened to me also! The whole /data (incl. sdcard) partition went corrupt (showed up in TWRP as eemc instead of ext4) & the /vendor failed to mount.
First I had to repair the /data partition (unfortunately the data was lost, as it repaired to a blank partition). I ended up having to go home (was at work at the time) & hook the phone up to the PC & download the ROM & transfer it onto the sdcard. I'm not entirely sure why/how this happened, but I believe it was because a corrupt vendor IMG. Although that theory doesnt include why the /data partition corrupted, it only explains why the /vendor partition failed to mount.

I have the same issue. The problem is, that my computer will not recognize the phone in bootloader mode or in recovery mode(MTP enabled). How can install usb drivers without being able to boot into phone OS???? I've tried Nexus Toolkit with no success. Please help?
Have a look here how to load in bootloader, flash, etc.

So I did the same thing. I'm sitting in TWRP right now but have nothing on the phone. Will I be able to reboot from TWRP into the bootloader and just use the flash-all command to get my phone to boot back up, then just go through the process of custom recovery again?
Basically I'm worried about leaving twrp without an OS. I didn't wipe bootloader did I? Also, I tried to download a ROM and just drag it to internal memory, but I can't seem to add anything to the internal memory.

Hi... Just boot into recovery and reflash system.img from the factory image of your choice in bootloader with fastboot. Also flash the vendor image from the same factory image. Done...
Or reflash the whole package with flash all (manually is better imho). But you'll waisted time... Let your phone reboot into Android and you'll have your internal storage back.

Yes TWRP has a reboot to bootloader option available. So you can access fastboot via bootloader to flash the necessary images. Just don't forget to re flash TWRP image again in case the stock recovery image was flashed beforehand.
The odd thing was that I did choose that option to boot to bootloader in twrp and it didn't work. I ended up having to reboot to bootloader manually. Not a big deal. All is working now, but thought that was interesting.

Exactly which partitions did you wipe? system? data? Internal Storage (userdata)? all of the above? Hopefully you did not wipe userdata (all your stuff). Were you on a stock ROM? You should be able to d/l the Google image from the same build you were on, extract system and data and fastboot flash those. Don't flash userdata. All your stuff should be there. Follow the tutorial on how to set up fastboot and selectively flash partitions.

Mi Note 2 bricked! Request for solution

Dear all,
I stupidly bricked my Mi Note 2 by doing OTA with TWRP installed (at least I think that is the reason) - although I have done this once with success, but at the second time, the phone won't boot anymore.
- In TWRP, it says that the internal storage is encrypted and prompts me for code
- In TWRP the storage cannot be mounted (none of the partitions can be mounted)
- Tried to flash stock ROM or stock recovery in fastboot mode, seems like the internal storage cannot be accessed either
- With Mi Assistant, still no lock
It seems that the internal storage is totally corrupted...
What can I do without going to service (luckily I'm in China right now...)? Perhaps ADB sideload stock ROM would work?
Thanks!
Delete data partition an try reboot
Can't. Got some error message - see attached.
Sense like that the internal storage can't be found at all...
Also tried to side load DEV rom via adb, but got the attached error.
No clue how to proceed...
1. Format your data partition, and then reboot TWRP. This will decrypt your phone.
2.After entering TWRP, wipe all partition and then reboot TWRP
3.Copy your ROM file into your phone, and then flash ROM

Hi, I have assumed this as well, however didn't figure out a way to format the data partition. In my previous screenshot I showed the error ("unable to mount" or "no such device") when trying to delete the data partition.
Do you have a more detailed instruction?
Thanks!
Here you are.
See that "Format Data" ?

Actually I cannot flash any recovery now: FAILED (remote: flash write failure)
Download fastboot rom and flash it with miflash tool.
Can you enter fastboot mode ? If yes, then you can do (1)as dtsun said that; (2)flash the new version of TWRP(fastboot flash recovery xxxx.img ===> "XXXX.img" means the whole file name of TWRP image file), rebooting to TWRP again and then flash your recovery ROM.

Do this.
What error are you getting when trying to flash MIUI fastboot rom?
I have had this problem before on my redmi note 3, although the cause was from flashing TWRP not OTA.
I tried everything I could think of to try fix it, in the end flashing fastboot rom and clean all and lock with mi flash tool was the only way.
You'll need to use mi unlock to unlock the phone again but that is easy if you have done it before.
Did you use official way to unlock bootloader?
Reply to all above:
I unlocked the phone in the official way;
Miflash didn't work, because the internal storage is not accessible.
So lessons learned: never do OTA update if you have a custom recovery installed.
But:
Latest report:
Sent back to Xiaomi (luckily I'm in China right now) and Xiaomi was awesome, the engineer replaced the main board and it costed me nothing...

HELPPPP!!

Hello Everyone,
I was using lineage os 15.0 and found some bugs so wanted to change the rom... So i wiped everything except internal storage and flashed viper os final version but it did not complete its flashing process, it was stuck on 100% for a very long time so i rebooted to recovery and tried again, faced the same issue again and again, then i planned to try some other roms and i noticed that i cant flash any of the roms via twrp nor 7.0 nougat nor 8.0 oreo roms.
I tried flashing stock rom via both toolkit and via adb both gave me error: command write failed (unknown error) or else command write failed(no error). I erased my data partition and tried again but still no use.. I restored a twrp backup from the forum but it does not boot whenever i click on reboot to system it boots to bootloader..
Guys please help!!! :crying::crying::crying::crying:

Fastboot devices. See if you get anything there
If not
1) you are not on the bootloader screen (NOT TWRP)
OR
2)You do not have drivers installed/bad port/bad cable etc.

SM-J510FN Dual Sim Stuck in TWRP recovery mode

Can anyone help, I rooted my phone last year and installed TWRP as part of the process, I did a backup at the time which I have on my SD card
the phone is stuck in the TWRP recovery mode, I can restore from my backup and it goes through fine but then goes back into recovery mode.
This all started when I tried to reset the phone back to factory defaults. I guess I wiped everything. Has anyone got any ideas how to get out of this.
I am not too familiar with TWRP, if anyone could point me in the right direction with a simple step by step guide it would be most appreciated.

I have tried several custom roms non of which work. What I don't understand is why when I restore from my one and only backup

then restoring boot then restoring data, at the end of it I get restore ok then it goes back to the TWRP recovery screen.

I went into the TWRP recovery mode then to Wipe hoping to do a factory reset, that went through ok and came back into the TWRP recovery mode
I then tried Advanced wipe and ticked all the boxes except micro SD card. Nothing could get me out of the recovery mode so then I tried a restore from
an old backup and that seemed to go through ok, but it still came back to the recovery mode.
If it was me, I would remove the back cover and via TWRP menu turn off phone.
As soon as the screen goes black, remove battery.
Insert battery and power on and see what happens.
Have you tried that? Or how do you turn it off?

Okay... when screen goes black have you tried to quickly start pressing the key combination to enter download mode?
For my J500 it's Volume down + Home key + Power (keep pressing until download screen appears) should be same for J510.
If you can enter download you have the option to use Odin and flash either a stock ROM or a newer Recovery.
If you want, you could:
Advance wipe, everything except SD card and OTG Usb. (How much was backed up? Did you tick all boxes?)
Format Data
Restore backup from SD card again
Advance wipe, tick only 2 boxes, Dalvik + Cache
Restart
Report back
Oh, and just to clarify... when you manually go to Restart in TWRP, no matter what option you choose, the phone restarts into TWRP again?
Bare with me, I'm trying to understand and help.
Thats the problem, I can't get out of the TWRP recovery mode so am not able to use Odin, I presume when I did my original backup
I didn't tick all the boxes because it goes through a recovery with no problem I presume the boot sector is missing.
From the TWRP recovery mode I am able to go to install and select a previously downloaded file but then it fails.
I have searched for a suitable ROM to download but am struggling to find one for my phone

You can update your TWRP with a newer version from here:
https://twrp.me/samsung/j5xnlte.html
(Carefully check that I linked to your model!)
.img is what you want to put in your phone. BUT... I haven't done this myself, so it's your call.
In TWRP you choose to install img and locate the file on your SD card.
My thought is that your TWRP is too old for the ROMs you have tried... (anyone please correct me if I'm wrong).

Juat install it to system cames up then install stock rom via odin
Why you wasting your time??!!
I have the TWRP image file 3.4.0-0 which partition should I be flashing it to Boot or Recovery?
I would hate kill it after getting this far.
in reply to amirizad_7436 I don't understand, I can't install a stock rom via Odin as I can't get out of the TWRP recovery mode.

You can. There is an option to reboot download mode from twrp (might be reboot bootloader)
That will put the device into download mode and you can flash with Odin.
Alternatively you could go to advanced wipe and wipe everything like you already did and then just flash a custom ROM. You wiped everything you said and then tried to reboot. That's why it went to twrp because you wiped system, there is no system to boot anymore.

Wow, that worked, I updated the version of TWRP and then installed a ROM that I downloaded "resurrectionremix-5.8.4-20190821"
and all seems to be working, both sims are recognised and operational all I need now is to get my head around the UI apart from that everything seems
good. Thank you everybody who helped me through this. I almost got to the point of binning an otherwise good phone.
Once again a big thankyou to everyone.
