Hello!
I've been experimenting with some roms for my SM-T580 and noticed Lineage-based roms warning me about an outdated vendor. Now, when searching the internet I found mostly Nexus users having to flash a newer vendor image (seemingly provided as an .img), but I don't quite know how to get this for my device.
Can somebody explain this to me?
Thanks.

Please... I recently updated to marshmallow and it's buggy and a bit slow and I'm completely infuriated about the fact that I couldn't find ROMs for my model (I know it's not popular but I thought someone might already have done it). I'm learning how to program but I'm still not advanced enough to be able to modify a ROM. It should be relatively easy though bc SM-A700FD & SM-A700H share the same processer! They only differ that the first supports LTE while the second 3G (they both have two sim slots). Thanks for anyone who will help me! I own the 2015 A7 btw. If you can help me find a ROM for my device I'll be grateful! Doesn't have to be resurrection I just want a stable stock build with useful features.
(Since I'm a newbie, I can't post in development forums, so I guess this goes here for now. If this is the wrong place, I apologise.)
I have an Asus Zenpad 8.0 (Z380M/P00A), which doesn't seem to have any support from the custom rom community. This is not surprising as it's a fairly uncommon device, and until recently, Asus has been less than helpful. However, the latest firmware update (supposedly; I haven't pulled the trigger yet) allows the Asus bootloader unlock utility to work on this tablet.
I've wanted to replace Asus's firmware since I bought the thing. I know that it's an uncommon device, so I'll have to do all the work myself. I'm an experienced Linux hacker, so I know how to configure and build kernels, how Linux OS images are constructed, how to read/write C, etc. However, I'm a bit of an Android newbie.
I figured the first step would be to port TeamWin recovery, so I'd have a way out if I brick the thing. But (from what I've been able to find) porting TeamWin requires a working CM or (preferably) Omni port. So it's kinda a chicken and egg problem. Do people just port roms using stock recovery and hope for the best? Or is there a (more involved, I'm sure) way of porting TeamWin that doesn't require an existing port? Or is there some other recovery (I don't know about) that's more standalone?
And then there's the issue of porting the OS itself. For thier part, Asus provides kernel souces, firmware images, and the aforementioned boot loader unlock utility. I imagine to get started, one has to compile a kernel and combine it with binary blobs extracted from the firmware image, but I'm not entirely sure.
I've looked around for porting information, but the guides I found all seem to assume you've got a working device tree from one mod that you want to graft onto another. I couldn't find much about really starting from (nearly) nothing. I'd like to say I'm surprised Google doesn't have something written up, but given how unhelpful I've found a lot of thier Android docs in the past, I'm not.
I'm mostly interested in porting AOSP to start, but I'd be willing to start somewhere else if some other ROM is easier to work with. Anyway, thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice you might have to offer.
Any progress on this? I was able to flash twrp and root my Asus Zenpad 8.0 (Z380M/P00A), but had no luck finding a compatible rom. Did you get to compile one? Thanks!
How would you unlock the bootloader for this device?
Hey guys
I've seen some Android Q GSI Images on the internet and I'm asking myself whether or not they would work with our axon (A2017G for me)?
Also, I have a general question about GSI on Axon: I've seen A GSI Roms, B GSI Roms and A/B GSI Roms.. what's the difference and more importantly, which one of those can I take for our axon? I have trebleized right now on latest LiquidRemix Pie
Thanks in advance,
Fred x
No harm in trying them out. We use x64 A only. No idea what the differences are

There are only two actually: A-only and AB ROMs, this pertains to the seamless update scheme. A-only means you only have one system partition, while AB means that there are two system partitions. If your phone is AB then the ROM can download updates in the background and flash them to the unused partition, and after it's done you can reboot and the active partition will be switched to that one. you basically don't lose time updating.
When Treble for our phone was made by djkuz, it was unclear whether it would be possible to implement an A/B scheme. We wouldn't lose much storage space (maybe none at all) because our stock system partition is actually huge, so it could be shrunk considerably and duplicated (I think it's 6GB in size). Oki said he would look into it some time ago.
Just use ARM64 A-only images for the Axon
Try Q yourself and report back, there's no obvious reason why it wouldn't work. maybe it does, maybe it doesn't, the question is why you would even bother with a leaked release idk
Thank you for your in-depth answer!
I've seen that leaked GSI Rom but also read an article that some sort of DP or Beta will be officially released soon. Maybe I'll get into Rom building, maybe I'll just try and report back, but of course: being on the very bleeding edge
Cheers
I tried the only gsi rom I could find at the time of writing this. I had no luck with all the vendors we have here. Every time I reboot I get a promising android text on the screen as if its booting but soon after it goes to the fastboot menu. It did this for every vendor i used. Let me know other peoples luck with this.
That leaked GSI will never work in axon7 because it requires the device to be "system as root" .
I heard that there will be another version of the GSI but could not find it anywhere

Could you briefly explain what this is?

System-as-root requires the ramdisk to be part of the system image, as in the AB images
It also loads your img file into root " { "/" folder } compared to the normal /system before.
So, if your kernel is not configured to read the ramdisk from system, then it would not be able to use a System-as-root image.
This is my understanding of it, correct me if I am wrong..
Hi, I recently bought an used OnePlus 8 Pro and it was already updated to Android 11. After repairing it, I discovered that it's not possible to run TWRP on this firmware version.
Couldn't I just go ahead and downgrade the OS in order to run TWRP on it or is it basically impossible like on the latest Samsung Galaxy S-series devices?
Would be glad if someone could answer me that question. I kinda tried to boot into twrp because I was too quick to read the thread but it just caused my device to run into Qualcomm Emegency Mode.
What do you need twrp for? If it's just to root and almost everything else... It can be done via other means.

Hmmmm the way I've seen a lot of custom roms... They're installed/flashed partition by partition in bootloader via fastboot.....I guess if you have to use twrp to flash the entire rom you do need to downgrade to os 10.

Thank you for your response. i think i just did not catch up the latest progress. Would you please help me find the instruction about how to flash rom in the new way you mentioned ? thank you so much.
And i still have the same question , is it necessary for us to downgrade to android 10 and then start flashing rom.
Look at the roms in the subforum here:
OnePlus 8 Pro ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, & Other
Improve your OnePlus 8 Pro 's battery life, performance, and look by rooting it and installing a custom ROM, kernel, and more.

I just looked at some popular ones like Pixel experience and Lineage and they're both flashed in this way. Look at the opening post where the instructions are... Seems like Pixel Experience there's a batch file that flashes the partitions but it's essentially done this way without twrp.

thank you for your reply, I already tried to flash pixel experience, i followed the install guide but failed to flash its recovery file.
Install PixelExperience on instantnoodlep - PixelExperience Wiki

Because it requires installing rom from recovery, so I get stuck here.
The problem is the device enters crash dump mode when switched to recovery mode. I guess the reason is that my p8pro is in andriod 11 before i flash recovery. now the device can enter android 11 normally but the recovery don't function. So I am here to ask is it necessary for me to downgrade to android 10 to solve the problem.

Thank you for your reply, it help me a lot. i have already flash my device lineage os . Regarding the problem i mentioned in my last reply, it seems the install guide is for android 10. As for android 11 , i think it needs a payload dumper to extract all files and flash them one by one.

I think the answer depends why do you need twrp. If you just want to flash a rom like me, you can find a custom rom supporting android 11,for example lineage os and you can flash all files it requires without twrp.
If you want to flash a android 10 rom or you just want to flash twrp , i don't know how, maybe you should downgrade.
Hello everyone,
i have the 2015 p024 and i searched everywhere for a custom and i only found CM14 with android 7.1 nougat
The problem with it is the touch doesn't work and it was the only non-stock rom i found on the whole web
I went to lineageOS's website and the link gave me a 403 forbidden error
after that i looked everywhere but I didn't find anything
I don't like the asus stock rom and i want a cleaner experience
PLEASE HELP ME!
When I was helping my old school restructure their IT, they have 2 old (unmanaged) p024s and 4 zenpad s8s (Intel) that were still in use… they ran android 6 and the apps they were using didn’t support the tablets anymore. I looked for a custom rom… AFAIK there are no custom roms for these.
