Android 5 for the Samsung Galaxy S5 ( SM-G900I ) - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm currently running LineageOS 14.1 (Android 7) on the S5 ( SM-G900I ) and want to downgrade (upgrade) to an Android 5 or Android 4-based ROM instead. Any recommendations?

What do you want?
Speed? Lag-free? Battery? Features? Etc...
Specify something so we can give you recommendations.

I just want something stable and reliable in an older Android version (5 or 4.4 x).
Bundled apps don't interest me. Google apps don't interest me. Latest updates don't interest me.
Virtually all apps will come from f-droid.org.
I am not even interested in using the device as a phone, but just an internet device.
I would like a good stable ROM with no frills that has Android 5 or Android 4. ( no Android 6 or later)
If anyone has any recommendations.

Who can get me a server with SSH?

Hi. I'm a 17-year old developer from the Netherlands, who was the first to get Ice Cream Sandwich booting on the HTC Desire. Then I released MIUI, CM7 and AOKP for the HTC Flyer and I was the first with every one of them
I have also been repackaging factory images for Android 4.3 for the Nexus 7 to make flashable ZIPs, and I released a nightly build of OmniROM. In case you're wondering why OmniROM Unofficial Build is not getting an update: I preferred to spend my time to prepare for KitKat.
But now that KitKat is available, I want to work as quick as possible to give you the latest best stuff for our Nexus 7. A custom ROM with features from Android 4.3 custom ROMs is what I strive to. However, I don't have a server or fast machine which is capable of compiling Android in a few hours (my machine with a dual core E2180 takes about 9 hours). This is really counter-productive as I need that box for other purposes as well. So I was wondering if anyone can give me access to a Linux box, with SSH access, and at least about 50GB free space (Ubuntu preferred). That way, I can release updates for unofficial builds of KitKat with new features much quicker.
If you think you have a machine that may be suitable for this, please reply And thanks in advance!
Sorry, I do not own such a machine, but I came here to vouch for this guy.
He was an excellent guy to have around the Flyer forums, and is sure one heck of a developer.
If you do have a box to spare, I would recommend giving it to Chaosz-X

Best Custom Rom for 2020.

There was currently the final update of the Rom Stock Android 10, security patch level as of October 6, 2019.
For a while now I feel that the phone drains the battery too much at times.
I was looking at Lineage OS v.16 as a viable option for my Google Pixel (Sailfish).
You who think of Lineage OS v.16 in this terminal, or if you know a better custom rom ... tell me your experiences.
I'll probably swtich off stock to Lineage OS 16 in 2020

Pixel Dust X (only on sourceforge, no xda post yet)
The most stabble 10 rom with a lot of features (more than evolutionx)
Upgrade to atleast Pixel 2. The pixel 1 chip is just downright horrible as daily phone especially those with daily usage of internet media consumption. It will stutter even scrolling or on the start page of a game like Mobile Legend. Even a snapdragon 625 is better

Afer the release of EvolutionX 3.5, man this rom is good, no bugs on sailfish and i think theres more features than pixel dust, it has a telegram group so unlike pixel dust you dont have to figure it out by yourself but you can ask other people
Same problem here, I tried everything to save battery but nothing helped, so I just downgraded to latest Android 9 stock(clean install)

Anything different after going to Android 9?
Battery improved?
Im thinking to just replace the battery.
It dit not work to downgrade to Android 9. I didn't get Magisk to run. But LineageOS worked and that is Android 9. everything is working fine so far, need some time to check the battery but I know that Android 9 was much better for my battery before I upgraded to Android 10. And I think there are no features which are missing now. New is not always better.
If you want to use Lineage, OpenGapps did not work because of the system partition size, I had to use MindTheGapps. Flashing Magisk was no problem but I don't like the Recovery from Lineage, so I flashed twrp after install.
this one is good too.

I just want to point out that the Pixel I got (new) would NOT stop freezing and stuttering no matter what stock/ custom rom I flashed, and the only sure-fire thing that fixed it was ROOTING and setting the GPU-Min-Frequency -on boot- to ONE step higher than standard [ 214Mhz instead of 133Mhz].
Hope that helps somebody.
I ended up with EX Kernel manager app that fixes my phone 5 seconds after reboot.

Same here, looking for the ROM that is suitable of the obsolete hardware.
Tried Evolution and Dust ROM, I like dust ROM more. However, since none of the custom ROM can be used with bank and payment apps, I switched back to the official ROM.
Android 9.0 update February 2019 seems to be the snappiest firmware I've used. After the update, I switched auto update off in the developer option (need to unlocked/relocked bootloader to downgrade).
Cheers.

Banking apps and GPay definitely work with custom ROMs as long as you're running a custom kernel.

Hey everybody,
I'm finally thinking of switching off the stock ROM
Since it's been ages since we've had Google support
But what I want in a ROM are the following:
1 Stable battery life
2 Good interface
3 still being updated
4 auto updates
5 fairly customizable

1. Bliss gets best battery life, imo
2. Well everything now has stock android interface
3. I know bliss mantainer and he updates it as frequently as possible, i myself am trying to make sakura project but got some issues here and there, official soon
4. As long as it's official, it should have updates
5. Bliss / resurrection remix?

Can someone please tell me which is the fastest rom for i9300 ?

I don't care much if it's android 9 or android 5. I just want the maps to work and perform basic functions, calls, gmail, youtube, music. No gaming
I have come across the 'LiquidSmooth' Rom on youtube which runs andoird 4.4.4. I am wondering if there is any newer android version that is also fast and doesn't drain the battery.
Thanks
You can try this
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/development/rom-lineageos-16-0-t3875899
uses android pie. it's the most stable for pie. there are also some efforts for android 10, but the stability for that is more of an alpha.
use twrp 3.2.3 to flash.
If you don't care for pie, you can use ressurection remix Nougat?
I don't think RR supports oreo
https://www.getdroidtips.com/resurrection-remix-oreo-list-supported-device/
here is a brief guide
https://www.getdroidtips.com/resurrection-remix-redmi-note-3-nougat-2/
generally speaking, you want to use as latest android as possible but is stable for your device
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_version_history
Reason being, you need the security patches, if you want as secure as possible an android device, so it doesn't get hacked, or get malware due to vulnerabilities existing on an older android

I'm testing several ... lineage OS 14.1 on antutu gets 39,585 Resurrection Rmx gets 40,696 I have downloaded RR here, in XDA, I quite like it, I have only tried those two. Also the interface in RR seems to me more attractive along with the pixel launch.

Rom for my old Samsung Galaxy s3 i9300

Hey!
I just picked up my old S3 from my drawer becouse i needed a backup phone, but the big problem is the phone is out of date so cant download any of the "daily using" apps.
It is android 4.3, i like how everything look like, but its basically not useble in 2020 becouse lack of apps and everything. Are there any rom that is good enough, that are kinda simular to 4.3, atleast by the looks of it, that are still supported that this phone can use?
Sorry if here already are threads about it, but im new to this, and it would be fun to learn
In my opinion, the only fully working custom ROM for S3, which have latest (security) updates, is LineageOS 14.1 (nougat 7.1.2). At the moment, it's maintained by orgert. Look for his links here (last page) :

Official update soon
Stock Android 9 ROM for now.
I would like to switch to an Android 11 Custom ROM, but since it's my daily driver phone, I wouldn't encounter bugs or problems with banking apps or camera.
Any suggestion for Pixel-like ROM so much stable to use it everyday?
The goal is to make the best use of the phone's hardware features, as well as being up-to-date, you will never go back to the phone's ROM stock once you try it. I suggest you use one of the ROMs

Thanks for making this thread. This should be the most important topic on this forum because Mi a2 stock rom is really bad due to last updates.I thought the result will be very helpful. The results make me even more confused now.As I see LineageOS has troubles with gcam modes and Pixel Experience is discontinued.I'm trying to find the most secured and stable ROM for my device with a working Gcam(the_dise) and banking apps.So which one is the actual winner?

In fact none of them, I think Lineageos and unuficial Pixel Experience are suitable for everyday use
Of course, it is mentioned that some features do not exist, such as the Gcam 5 and Twrp
Pixel-based ROMs are also not very stable and have problems
I suggest you try these two; PPUI and Pixel extended
A good Android 10 ROM is undoubtedly Paranoid5

What are the differences between PixelPlusUI and Pixel Extended?I don't really care about extra features. All I want is a secure and reliable OS with working GCam.I don't find any comparisons between these 2 ROMS.Which one of them you like more and why?
