lg g6 g600l unlockbootloader - LG G6 Questions and Answers

Hi everybody
I just bought the LG g6 g600lr korean version
for the past few days I've been researching on how to unlockbootloader to install custom rom
In LG's support list there is no device code but there are many other versions like H782 H873 which can be unlocked even though there is no official support like me.
So, did I try to skip and perform operations like supported versions?

Nahh, mine is g600l but still locked up. If someone/developer works in your phone for exploit, its possible, but its hard to make an exploit it takes months or year depends on developer and some people who wants to help.

Will updating/flashing a new rom re-lock my unlocked LG G2 (F320s) ?

Hi all,
I recently bought a Korean version of LG G2 F320S from a friend of mine. I had to get it unlocked so that I can use it outside Korea.
It comes unrooted and is currently running Android KitKat 4.4.2. As I want to explore more, I want to manually update my phone to Lollipop and flash custom roms. But the problem is I am not sure if updating/flashing a complete new rom will make my phone become locked again. Moreover, is CloudyG2 3.3 compatible with my Korean G2 F320s?
Any input is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Did you got it unlocked by the carrier or by any fix too-smart-not-to-pay-a-few-money method?
If you got it unlocked by paying don't think you'll get any errors or relocking. Already tried it with many other phones (htc, Samsung, sony) and never got any errors after paying.
That about compatibility of cloydyfa's Rom is a question I can't tell you for sure, search it in the Q&A thread

afaik, cloudy3.3 was first released for your variant... because korean variants got lp rom first (other variant releases followed few months later)...
to be sure, check the cloudy thread

Which version is better to get (for roms) US997 or H870

Both are currently the same price. Both bootloaders are unlocked and have twrp. The H870 already has an unofficial LineageOS rom, the US997 does not.
Getting rid of LG's ****ty OS and putting something more stock is pretty important to me.
I was leaning towards the H870 before because its $50 cheaper, but the US997 has a 2 year warranty. Im in the US and on tmobile btw.
I know the rom for the h870 doesnt boot from what ive read.im on the us997 hoping for custom roms.but rooted and majorly debloated it works good

Well the phone is pretty new, and the G5 has full lineage support, so its just a matter of time until the G6 (i think). I just hope both unlocked devices are supported, and not one or the other. Anyone have any idea?
i'm already learning and learning and learning and work on some custom roms (includes lineageOS)
but for an beginner it is not easy to build them .
next problem is my pc, i need more ram and a better cpu

Which LG V20 has the most support?

If i were to get a LG v20, which version should i buy if i am concerned with rooting, bootloader unlocking, and roms and such?
The at&t variant is the one that can be rooted on all the software versions the company has released thus far. This might change though in any future updates the company releases. The rest can also be rooted, but only up to certain software versions (mostly those released prior to mid-2017, for the T-Mobile variant, updating to H91810P and beyond means you can't root, yet).
The factory unlocked US996 (not to be confused with the us cellular us996) is the only one that LG provides an official means to unlock the bootloader which is a key part of rooting and installing custom ROMs. The others must rollback to an old version (which isn't possible on recent Sprint and T-Mobile firmware but the framework is there for any carrier to stop it) to root/install a custom ROM. Besides that both x86cpu (main maintainer of LineageOS for the V20) and myself ( I fell into maintaining TWRP for the V20) have the US996.
I recently bought a used H910 AT&T from ebay running 10m
Had to downgrade to unlock bootloader and install TWRP but working like a charm...
is the us996 model the same one as the t-mobile version? is there a way to tell which us996 is which?
Hi, sorry for asking this if it sounds dumb but i am not good in rooting and custom rom stuff i just use stock rom. Recently I also bought h910 and it has some issues regarding the os. How to know that i need to downgrade the android to unlock boot loader for installation of twrp? Can you help me?
I am also having this issue which i posted in xda, may be you are aware of it.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/help/lg-v20-h910-how-to-remove-carrier-t3773458
As far as i check and know there is only one us996 model and that's the us cellular variant
@runningnak3d has recently developed a method to root T-Mobile H918. (main thread here)
Several members have reported successfull root, and it appears the method is successful on many other V20 models (even other LG phones) as well.

LG G6 Using different KDZ's

I'm new to the LG Ecosystem and I have a few questions.
I have an LG G6 H870 from Entel in Chile, its currently on Android 7.
1) Can I flash it to something like the OPEN EU images which are newer?
Because they're all H870's are they the exact same hardware, meaning the functionality on different H870 kdzs should work fine? The Entel doesnt even have a 2018 release yet so I don't have great confidence they will update the LG G6.
2) Does flashing a KDZ affect the boot loader?
If I unlocked the bootloader for rooting would flashing the KDZ back reset it back to locked?
3) Is it safe to flash a KDZ via a virtual machine? The LG Bridge app wont detect my phone on Mac no matter what I try (High Sierra), (adb is fine iv tried the drivers etc), however it shows up when I connect it to a Windows 7 VM.
4) Is it likely that when the official Oreo 8.1 update comes it would be better to switch to something like an OPEN EU or UK image?
Or even just flash the new 8.1 KDZ when its available?
5) If I rooted and flashed something like LineageOS, can I easily go back to any of the KDZs with the LG tool?
I noticed theres an "error link which seems to download a KDZ for resetting your phone. Does that work off some kind of internal hardware serial, meaning that if things are ever soft-bricked I could just hit that button and go back to square one no problems?
6) Anything else I should be aware of or concerned about if I want to play with flashing different KDZs or custom roms? I dont care about warranty e.g. unlocked bootloader.
7) Whats the best tool for unlocking bootloader and gaining root these days, I know theres a tonne of AIO tools and things like KingRoot. Any suggestions from other LG G6 modders?

1) If it's just an "H870" than yes, it should be fine.
2) You cannot unlock the bootloader. Only unbranded US997 and European H870 can.
3) Never tried, it should, but in this i cannot give you a certain answer.
4) 8.1? We don't know it'll be 8.1. Anyway it's always better to flash the right firmware for your region.
5) You cannot do any kind of modding on your device atm, see the 2nd answer.
6) Flashing a wrong kdz could hard brick your device, so be careful on names. For the warranty you're good to go, you cannot do any kind of modding.
7) For G6 there is no "best" tool, there is only ONE way to unlock the bootloader but it won't work on your model (as explained in the 2nd answer), other tools like KingRoot don't work at all.
Bonus answer: No, flashing an european firmware won't allow you to unlock the bootloader.
Sorry for the noob question, it's probably been asked on here, but have not been able to find a solid answer. I have a US Cellular LG G6, which by now I know bootloader can't be unlocked. But, is there any way to update to Android Oreo? Currently on Android Nougat 7.0. thanks in advance.

I have found out the hard way that there are several versions of the model US997 variant of the LG G6:
https: //lg-firmwares.c o m/lg-us997-firmwares/firmwares/
(I apologize that the forum's spam filters are preventing me from posting a working link. Just take out the spaces.)
There is a USA unlocked version, two US cellular versions, two "Brightpoint" versions (whatever that is), and an Amazon version. And they all share the same model number. This is quite confusing because with most phones, usually there is only one version per model number. If your phone is stuck on Android Nougat, chances are you're like me and you're on the USA unlocked version of this phone, not the US Cellular version. The US Cellular and Brightspot versions have all been updated to Oreo and the latest update was in September 2018.
I have no idea why LG isn't upgrading the USA unlocked version. It was very frustrating when I bought it used and found out it was still stuck on Nougat, which I was not expecting.

Just use the US997 and NOT US997U and it'll work perfectly on non-US-Cellular or US-Cellular KDZ. 21B is latest Oreo

Actually the US Unlocked version has gotten the update and it's bootloader unlockable... My phone is the US997Z which is the US Cellular version. I believe you have to be connected to their service to be able to receive the update through their towers. I went ahead a upgraded my LG G6 with the US unlocked version kdz as the @HueyT mentions above. Update went great using LG up and uppercut no set back going through the update. If you need help I would happily help you out. Because I was in the same boat as you.

It's very strange that some versions of the LG G6 "US997" are not updated to Oreo yet and other ones with this version are. But if there is anyone out there reading this, you know know there is a workaround and you can force your computer to update the firmware on your LG G6 with the official LG ROM that runs Android Oreo.
For the $254 I paid for this phone used, with a case and the original charger, I can live with a phone that I have to update manually if I won't get OTA updates for some reason. And I did not break the phone's security because I'm still able to use Google Pay and online banking.

Make DirtySanta unofficial unlock work on LG G5

Hi!
Since LG shut down their services to officially unlock boot in December 2021, we have to deal otherwise.
In the past DirtySanta was able to unlock LG V20 H990 independently. We need to expand this method for ours LG G5, including H850 and others. These phones are similiar and comes from the same period, it might be possible.
[ROOT] DirtySanta comes for the H990
Took a while to work things out, but DirtySanta has been successfully extended to international versions of the LGE V20. While I have tried to ensure this works for anyone, this may fail. I also do not provide any warranty! The result of a...

Good to know someone did it !
I'm stuck with locked bootloader and from my searches, LG does not want to deal with only a few people asking stuff about a 5 years old devices.
Keep me informed if there's some news !
I like this idea and would really appreciate bootloader unlock for H850 international models
I would love that as well, I'm trying to get a G5 H850 refurbished. It makes me reallly angry at LG, because without custom ROMs this phone is just landfill material.
Please kind developers,, help us save this phone from the trash!
