yes

Seems to be like deadlock
Do as full as possible backup of your current system, apps, data.
Export it to external storage.
Unlock the boot-loader. /≥168hrs/
Install the same firmware.
Root your phone.
Restore the backup.

Why to install the same firmware?
After unlocking bootloader, he'll already get a clean system...

Because for me it always is better to start as clean as possible.

Wipe from TWRP + Kernal install?

Sorry if this has been asked (did a couple searches didn't see a thread matching) but I already have my bootloader unlocked (from flashing a factory image) but I'm wondering if I choose to install TWRP and then flash a custom kernal would either of those actions require a full wipe (as in losing all data) of my 6P?
Thank you!

If you want to decrypt the internal storage, then yes, you will need to wipe. If not, you can go ahead.

From what I read in the guide from Heisenberg there's really no reason to decrypt anymore correct?

It depends upon you. There is not much difference in terms of performance.

Unable to OTA or flash update for OP5

Hi, a while back I managed to flash the Open Beta 3 for the OP5 but I ended up losing my files because of encryption.
Anyways, I'm not able to OTA or dirty flash any updates. I've tried both stable OOS 5.0.2 and the Open Beta 5 updates.
This is the message I get: https://i.imgur.com/wigXV3f.png
unless you relock your bootloader you won't be able to update. i tried everything. make sure you backup your data before you relock bootloader beacause this process will wipe everything.
cmd code to lock bootloader - fastboot oem lock

Yeah that's really annoying, that's what happened the first time when I lost all my data.
What steps do you recommend for backing up? I have Titanium pro. So I would basically have to backup, relock, wipe, flash, root and restore?

Backup of a unrooted Nexus 6P

My Nexus 6P is not rooted, bootloader is also locked. As the BLOD is imminent threat, i want to unlock my Bootloader. But i'm unable to find any app to backup my entire phone. Personally i like nandroid backup from TWRP, but without root, it's not possible, and in order to root i need to unlock BL which inturn will wipe my /data partition. See my dilemma here?
So, if therer is any software that can backup my phone while i unlock BL and restore my data?

Just backup and sync with google it's decent now. Can't remember if internal gets touched maybe backup to computer or thumb drive to be safe.

Thanks. I decide to bite the bullet and go for bootloader unlock. You are right, google backup is now amazing, i've even got back my call log and sms. App data is also restored, but no internal Memory is backed up. luckily i did copy my Internal memory.
So, TL,DR: Copy all my internal, did google backup. Unlocked bootloader, Got TWRP then root using magisk immediately (otherwise TWRP dosent stay), restore backup. Got old phone back

Just wanting to make sure before I unlock my bootloader and install a custom rom

Hello,
I used this tool to root my device, install recovery, and backup TA.
Before unlocking the bootloader, I just want to make sure that I'm going to do the right thing.
1. Unlock bootloader using fastboot
2. Restore TA partition to get DRM keys back.
3. In TWRP wipe dalkvik, system and data
4. Install custom rom by flashing in TWRP.
5. Flash magisk zip to root device.
Is this right?
Thank you!!
You need to backup TA partition before unlocking bootloader. If you restore your TA backup then bootloader well be locked again.
Ok, thanks. I have already backed up the TA partition.
Is there any way to restore the DRM keys without relocking bootloader?

You can do it in stock rom and stock custome rom. I'm using this tool https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/poc-real-trim-instead-drm-fix-t3552893 it makes your device acting as locked bootloader with full drm function.
OK thanks.
However, I will install a new Android 10 ROM.
Is there any other way?

I think you don't need it in android 10
OK then.
Are the rest of the steps alright?

Before installing android 10 make sure you have flash 291 ftf first
1- backup TA
2- unlock bootloader
3- flash twrp for android 10 with fastboot
4- wipe system, data and cash
5- flash rom
6- flash gapps (optional)
7- flash magisk then reboot (some roms needs to reboot before install magisk)
