Bricked onn 10.1 with keyboard - Walmart Onn Tablets General

So I bought one of those onn tablets from Walmart, went to flash phussons quack gsi for Q and whilst the system flashed fine via fastboot it refuses to actually boot (bootloop on the onn screen) I can't get into recovery either. Fastboot -w fails because it can't create an image for the userdata partition (when I go to manually format userdata it says the partition table doesn't exist.) I'm able to flash to the boot, recovery and system partitions no issue.

Android 10 roms I have tried do not work... I have the onn 8 and on 10 w/o keyboard.
Also I had no issues flashing android 9 roms on the 8 but on the 10 all roms have issues with no sound from the speakers but sound through wired & bluetooth headsets some roms have graphical issues some have bluetooth... but all seem to have sound problems... and some will not boot past boot animation.
Roms I got too boot were phh's 9, beast rom, bootleggers, bliss and liquid remix. Liquid remix runs the best so far... but on the 8 not the 10

I also tried the /e/ os gsi Wich is based on pie that didn't boot either, I'll try liquid remix
went to format system before flashing and heres the output i got
Invalid erase-block-size 0: must be a power of 2 and at least 4096.
Invalid logical-block-size 512: must be a power of 2 and at least 4096.
mke2fs 1.44.5 (15-Dec-2018)
/tmp/TemporaryFile-wirxYd: Unimplemented ext2 library function while setting up superblock
/usr/lib/android-sdk/platform-tools/mke2fs failed with status 1
mke2fs failed: 1
error: Cannot generate image for system
same type of error i was talking about with my userdata partition

What was your method for flashing?

Unlocked the bootloader with fastboot flashing unlock
Fastboot -u flash system /name/and/location/of/gsi
I had erased my system partitions before i flashed the gsi the first time and I think that's where I screwed up
If I could get into the recovery I'd just adb sideload the ota and start again

Be careful you don't lose your battery charge, it doesn't charge in fastboot, so it can be easy to get into a difficult situation with a battery below 30%
I can get you stock system, boot and recovery images for your model later this evening.

Alright, thank you and I've already been attempting to use your back up images of stock off xda to try and restore it is there anything special I need to do or are you going to get like a flashall file made?

I am going to get the system and vendor partitions from the ONA19TB007 uploaded (currently only have boot and recovery)
Once those are up, you should be able to flash them via fastboot.

The speed is by server. Quebec seems to be fast for me most the time. If there is It's there decryption on twrp? I have been happy with stock personally but if you need any more images let me know. Also let me what way you want them. I can flash then use twrp or use dd commands but I would need to know what dd you wanted. I don't have sptools installed right now though. I could probably get it working on my Mac os if needed be though since I have many of the Linux libraries/services. Last option would take the longest since it's actually learning new cli commands. I am kind of a slacker but if someone has a bricked device then... I want to help.

Thanks, but the files finally finished uploading in the small hours last night.
I figured out its my stupid internet connection at home... apparently, while my download speed is great, my upload speed could be outpaced by a burro carrying floppy disks

Not hard bricked by a long shot.
Several of us have recovered from this scenario.
Somewhere around here I posted a link to a xda thread with a similar situation that can happen with some HTC phones. Basically, you build a script to constantly reboot it into fastboot.

everytime i try to boot into fastboot mode it reboots it doesnt go into fastboot mode, is this because the battery life is low and does not want to boot into fastboot mode? Also how would i charge my device it keeps flashing on the low battery icon. any help would be appreciated also a link to your post would help me greatly.

Softbricked during unlock

I went to unlock my Shield TV Pro model using fastboot, and after I hit OK on the OEM unlock screen it rebooted as per usual. Now my issue is its been sitting here 'erasing data' for hours and I can't boot back into the bootloader using any of the methods on Nvidias site. Does anyone know how to get back into the bootloader or into fastboot mode? If I unplug it the console will show the splash screen then continue with its endless erasing data screen. I factory reset it anyway before unlocking to help shorten the time because then there's virtually no data on it. Normally I would use a hardware override via the buttons like on a phone but the methods Nvidia has don't work so its been a fun day.
Edit: I managed to boot into the bootloader, however even after using the fastboot format userdata and cache commands (both were successful) it's still not going past the 'erasing data' android. I also can't flash any images because it results in an error.
It's supposed to take a long time (hours). Just let it do it's thing.

Yeah, you're right. 12 hours is way too long... something is definitely wrong. Per Nvidia's factory image page:
NOTE: On the SHIELD Android TV Pro 500GB edition, two steps of the flash process may take a very long time. The first time you apply a custom OS image, you must execute fastboot oem unlock which securely erases the user data partition and can take up to two hours. Additional, each time the user data partition is flashed with fastboot flash userdata userdata.img it must be erased which can take up to an hour.

Yeah I read something similar in their website. I'm still messing with it trying to get it to boot fully now. I wish the Android TV's had a better method to flash things and boot into the BL like phones do. My Nexus Player is still alive and well running M so that's good.
Update:
I managed to get it to boot after messing with it for another few hours so St least it somewhat works now.

corrupted boot img(Qualcomm)[boost]

I have (attempted)root, and while I have root access when I boot up, I have to boot through fastboot. I tried the verity file published on a few threads, as well as RSD(for Linux, if that makes a difference) and I get no service. Twrp can't be reflashed due to the bootloader message in fastboot saying the boot IMG is corrupted. Anything helps at this point.
Running RR rom as of now, lineage was no different.

If you don't already have it, the Boost stock firmware is here: https://firmware.center/firmware/Motorola/Moto E4/Stock/
Download this one:

If you can't get RSDlite to recognize your device, you'll have to use adb/fastboot to flash the firmware manually piece by piece.

RSD recognized device fine, but when I flashed it, nothing changed.
Edit: I did try to use fastboot last night to flash the contained boot.img as well as the recovery.img no luck with those either. Would I need to erase files before flashing first?
Edit2: I very well may have downloaded an incorrect zip from the list last time. I'm going to get the one you mentioned and when I get home from family's house tonight I'll give it a go and holler.

I'm not sure what your problem could be other than not having the correct firmware. I haven't used RSD with this device (maybe someone who has will chime in) because it wouldn't recognize it so I've just been flashing it with fastboot on Windows with a script to flash everything automatically, so it's just as easy. It's the only time I really ever use Windows. You shouldn't need to erase anything before flashing. I've never had to. Be careful using the erase command, I've seen users screw up partitions using it and ending up with a brick. I only use it erase modem st1 and st2 and to wipe data.

I only have Linux ATM. My machine had XP on it till it crashed setting up eclipse lol rsd communicates with the device fine, so I'm assuming it's the firmware. Like I said I'm at family's for the holiday, but I'll keep you posted when I get home.

Pretty sure no verity zip or magisk takes care of that (though you get n/a in the corner)

Leave twrp as read only, then flash verity, then su. Is that correct?

adb shell whoami
Return was:

But I'm still waiting for it to update the partition details...

Messed up my phone's boot loader image, is retrieving at least my photos possible?

Hi all, I really messed up my 6T today, after messing with the new update and root, I ran the flash_all.bat file (from https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/how-to/rom-stock-fastboot-roms-oneplus-6t-t3862516) to restore images but didn't realize it would clear all my data, I stopped the process after it ran for a few seconds in a panic but now my phone only has the fastboot screen and fastboot.exe from my cmd shell is unable to do anything (just errors out for most commands), is there a way for me to at least retrieve my photos from my phone? I've tried 3rd party software and they all require usb debugging which I can't activate due to my phone not having a boot image. Any help would be a miracle, thanks.
I would try fastbooting a TWRP image. From there you may get access to your internal storage. You can then copy it off to a PC. I say may because you could encounter encryption issues when trying to first boot into TWRP.
If you do hit encryption issues, you could modify the "flash all" batch file to remove the -w command so it doesnt format. However, I thought that it gave you an option to wipe or not?
If it did wipe first, your a gonner my friend. You are too late.
Hope this gives you some insight on where to go from here.
Thanks, that's what some others have been telling me, I have tried to fastboot flash a few versions of TWRP and blu spark (I had the latest android version I believe, so even tried the Q version https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...overy-unofficial-twrp-touch-recovery-t3861482), but none of them are working, I get a failed to load/authenticate error when doing fastboot flash <img name> and fastboot flash boot <img> doesn't error out but I still can't get past the fastboot menu.
I see the flash_all script has the -w in it, but yeah it never prompted me about wiping all data. I managed to kill the process a few seconds in, so even if it was deleting, large files like my photos and videos should still be existent on the drive somewhere, right? Unless the -w command does a really fast purge of the files?

THe -w command does a very fast wipe. So if it was at the beginning of the scrip that more than likely like your files are gone.
Run the script again, this time delete the -w command. This will be your best chance of finding any data.
I see, if the wipe has already happened, are there more low-level ways to retrieve the data? Since it couldn't have purged from the disk all 20 gigs of photos in such a short time span. Though I'm guessing even if there are fragments left like that they're most likely corrupted and unusable?
Anyway, I took it to a shop today since I couldn't do much else my self, we'll see what happens. Lesson learned to always back up before messing with the boot.
Thanks

Probably not possible as user data are stored in a virtual filesystem, mounted over an encrypted partition.
That's the reason why police forces regularly ask phone makers to put a backdoor, it's very hard even for a high tech forensic specialist to find data on a phone
So I actually re-ran the flash_all.bat script without the -w flag and I was able to fast boot flash into twrp (twrp-3.3.1-30-fajita-Q-mauronofrio to be specific). I can see what i believe are my files in the internal storage, but encrypted, however twrp never prompted me for a password, also going to the twrp terminal and entering twrp decrypt <passcode> did not work. Anybody know how to get twrp to decrypt? For some reason flash_all.bat did not restore my original boot or anything so I am only able to boot into recovery mode or twrp from the fastboot on my PC. doing fastboot getvar all shows that my slot-unbootable:a is "yes" if anyone knows how to make sense of this, it would be appreciated, even if I just need to copy my phones internal storage on to my computer and run 3rd party software to decrypt it that is fine
Thank you

OnePlus 8 Pro refuses to install TWRP. Qualcomm Crash Dumps every time. Any advice?

I want to install TWRP as my recovery I've tried at least four different versions that are listed here and a few others from other links:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...p-for-oneplus-8-8-pro-unified-stable.4101313/
I'm not having driver issues anymore so I'm working with adb and fastboot fine. All commands are going through fine and I've tried flashing to recovery_a and recovery_b. Factory resetting doesn't resolve the issue. Every walkthrough I find I get to says flash then boot to TWRP but every time I flash it qualcomm dumps and every time I boot to it it qualcomm dumps.
Is there something corrupted in my recovery I need to wipe somehow? If so how do I wipe it because the only command I found online that would run was fastboot -w and that didn't fix the issue either.
Honestly really annoying at this. This is my 4th OnePlus phone and I've never had so many issues flashing it.
Edit:
I have also tried to do whatever steps are needed to go back to base stock and OS and it doesn't seem to work either. Any help would be appreciated.
Edit 2:
I did it. For anyone who finds this thread in the future the MSM tool did finally work. This is the video I used in the end
(I muted it.) and the first few starts it failed. I went into the properties of the MSM exe and under compatibility checked ran as admin. I also did install the qualcomm driver at some point way before this so not sure if that helped. The MSM tool still didn't work until I started it, turned my phone off, held both volume buttons (not the power) while plugging the phone in. All the stuff online I saw had people starting the program at this point but mine had started already and was in a "waiting for device" state when it worked.
What a lifesaver. Won't be messing around with this again until TWRP is available.
Because you are unable to flash phone's Stock ROM take phone to authorized service center and let them fix it.

In the future, you should not flash both slots, just flash without specifying _a or _b.

It is very sensitive to which USB port you use. For some people only USB2.0 works, for me USB3 works fine as long as it's chipset USB3. The second ASMedia controller doesn't work.
Also, use original cable, and switch off the phone completely, get MSM to the point it's waiting for device so start the download before connecting phone, then while holding the volume keys connect the USB cable and it should instantly start flashing.

Onn 7" Model 100026191 TWRP Development

Alrighty... So I'm in the weeds here after going through three variants of the Samsung JPop (Which have bootloaders locked up like Fort Knox) and decided today to break down and dish out $59 for this bargain device. First thing I did upon getting it home was fastbooting it, and was able to unlock the bootloader with no issue. (So easy, a caveman could do it)
I've read just about every thread in here and though there seems to be TWRP support for quite a few models of the Onn tablets, I didn't see this one in here. Right now I have a throwaway laptop which is installing ubuntu for building TWRP for this device. Now, I have NEVER built TWRP. But I have plenty of free time, ambition, and am willing to learn. I have the basic guide to building TWRP open elsewhere. I will take whatever help I can get on doing this, big or small. Building a basic TWRP image should be easy enough, but the guides don't really go into device specific details (as expected), so this is where I could use some veteran help.
Device Specs:
Model: 100026191
Out-of-the-box Android Version: 11
Display: 7" 1024 x 600 Resolution
Processor: 2.0 GHz Quad-core CPU
RAM: 2GB
Cameras: 2MP front & back
USB: Type-C
Ubuntu just finished, and I am getting the build environment ready as we speak. Will keep this thread updated with progress and hickups that may occur along the way. Wish this noob some luck!!!!
Alrighty, so here's what I've been able to come up with as far as more detailed system information. Sorry for the late post, had trouble getting wifi working on ubuntu but got it going.
I suspected a MediaTek CPU and was eager to do a readback with SP Flash Tool, but as you can tell from the provided screenshots, it's actually a Cortex-A53 CPU. my goal here is to some how pull my stock recovery out of here. I thought about dd'ing it but someone in another thread advised against it. Does Onn have stock firmwares hidden away in the internet somewhere? Or is there another tool I can use to pull recovery?
Good evening guys and gals. New day, new opportunity. So i'm still stuck at pulling off boot and recovery from this tablet. I used
Code:
/adb shell cat /proc/mtd
to no avail. Permission denied just like with dd.
Today, I got the MTK droid tool and hooked the tablet to it and got these results. Still no scatter file, still no progress on pulling these partitions. (I apologize for my dumbness yesterday, this device is in fact MediaTek)
Alright. Eighty of you have clicked in this thread, zero of you show any motivation to do anything to contribute. You guys must hate this tablet because I went through this entire board, and each thread that even mentioned this model were left with no response. I just want the boot and recovery partitions off of the stock tablet. I am willing to do the rest. I said before, I'd take any help I could get but since this device is "so" insignificant, I'm not trying anything else on it.
I don't know if you guys dodge this device because it's Android 11, or what. But the least you veterans could do is either tell us it's not going to happen (given that you tried), or give us some other ideas we could try. Hell I'll paypal you enough for you to have the device in your hands in order to help. But that's where I stand. Moderator can lock this thread if he wishes. There's nothing else I can do for this device at the moment.
guess i'll return it to walmart
was hoping to root it easily with twrp
just gonna go grab the 8' if this is how it ended for the 7'
thanks for the help though!
I need a firmware for the 100026191

I have the boot and recovery images if you want them.
I unfortunately accidentally deleted the original boot image, but I have a magisk patched image still present.
I can walk you through the process of extracting the original if you would prefer that, it's quite simple, I just don't feel like buying a second Onn tablet at the moment.
Just note that if you want to extract the original boot image, do NOT flash the Magisk image, it will permanently erase the original boot image. There is another way, I can walk you through it.

I oicked up one of the gen3 tablets. Do you think your way of pulling the boot image would work on it?

My way of pulling the images should work on any Android device that ships Android 8.0+, however if you got it brand new, don't update it.
Factory reset it if it downloaded an update, then disable OTA updates before enabling Wi-Fi.
You can run `adb logcat` while the update is downloading to find out where to download the OTA, and dump the boot partition from that.
From there, if you install Magisk, you can dump the recovery partition with `adb shell`.

Ok I will have to reset it then go from there. Do you have a guide on how to pull the image?

When doing first time setup, don't connect to Wi-Fi.
Enable Developer Settings
Disable OTA Updates
Enable USB Debugging
Connect to Wi-Fi
Connect the device to your computer
Run `adb logcat > ota.txt`
Reenable OTA Updates
Go to Software Updates and start downloading the Android 12 update (If it's not the Android 12 update, disable OTA updates again after this one finishes installing, then try logcat again after rebooting)
Search for a link that looks like `https://android.googleapis.com/packages/ota-api/package/827ee737174e0e8f761bcaeb12738221a924c810.zip` in the logcat.
Put the update link in your browser, and download the zip file.
Extract the zip file
There's your boot.img, very conveniently.
The update link I have provided is for the 100074181, the 3rd gen Onn 7, if you happen to have that one then go ahead and just use my link.
Though update to Android 12 before actually using that boot.img with Magisk, it won't work with Android 11.
After you're done with that, and you're rooted.
`adb shell`
`su`
`dd if=/dev/block/by-name/recovery of=/storage/emulated/0/recovery.img`
Then connect your tablet to your PC and enable file transfer in USB settings, then just pull recovery.img out of your tablet and you have the recovery image.

Update to Android 12 before using Magisk, just in case.

I will look for it. Saved it to a USB drive and of course it decided to be stupid and it is repairing now. Slow going but as soon as it gets done I will look to see if it survived and if so I will get it uploaded.
