So, I've flashed before but somehow this time I'm really afraid of briking my phone and I would love to be sure of what I'm doing.
Currently my phone has LOS 16 and TWRP. I want to install PE 9 (PE 10 seems a bit buggy in things I need) and orangefox recovery.
According to what I've searched I should be doing this:
Backups of boot, system and data - Do I need to backup vendor too or any other thing? Afraid of dm-verity
Remove pin/passwords/fingerprints. Enable USB debugging and all that just in case.
Copy orangefox recovery + PE rom into internal storage.
Enter TWRP, flash orangefox.
Reboot (Will it enter orangefox directly or do I need to do something else?)
Format data (To avoid being asked for a password) - I don't really know how to do this, does the option show up in OFox?
Wipe system, data, cache, dalvik/art cache
Flash PE (no Gapps needed I believe)
Flash Magisk (Do I need a reboot in between these two flashes)
Boot.
Is this what I should do to avoid any bricks and any password protected things?

Guys I am in need of help. I did not fully understand step 10 in TWRP installation guide and just skipped originally. I did notice I could not wipe anything but thought I would be fine so I just dirty flashed custom ROM assuming wipe would work afterwards and I can clean install after.
I am obviously stuck now with 0MB internal storage shown along with no access to phone since it says upon boot that verification has failed and that I need to reset my phone.
Now, I do have important photos/datas which are invaluable and thus do not want to lose... I did hear other guys restored their nandroid backup and were fine.
My question is, is there any way for me to access and back up my internal data somehow? I did hear something like flashing a stock firmware via Odin without the cache inside. Could someone confirm that this would work please? Would really appreciate a response. Thanks guys.
I did try this:
If you only want a bootable system partition or writable data in TWRP:
Download dm-verity and force encryption disabler.
Without exiting TWRP, transfer no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip to your device over MTP* and flash it using [Install] in TWRP.
But TWRP would not allow me to flash because it said it could not mount storage. I presume this is because I exited TWRP...
Please, any guidance would be much appreciated.
Do a wipe, system, data/ dalvic , and cache . Do NOT check internal storage and SD card...reflash your rom

Thanks for the reply but I cannot do that since the phone does not let me wipe from TWRP due to the encryption issues I believe.

Could this help:
"Only if you want internal storage or data to work in TWRP:
Go to [Wipe] -> [Format Data] (not advanced wipe) -> type "yes".
WARNING: This will wipe your internal storage, disable encryption, and factory reset your phone!
Go to [Reboot] -> [Recovery]."
or

Thanks man. I am aware of this but have not done so which is my problem haha. Does anyone know of this set PIN before flashing stock rom on ODIN please? I obviously cannot since I cannot boot to system but I do not want to make assumptions like before, go ahead and cause myself more stress...
Hold up, have you flashed SuperSU? That should be the only thing stopping you from being able to boot up. After flashing TWRP and a custom rom you need to install SuperSU to be able to boot.
Either try to flash SuperSU using TWRP built in ADB or buy an external sd card and flash from there. You don't need to disable encryption and in fact, that zip you tried to use actually wipes your internal storage anyway so don't try it again.
Hello.
So i've flashed Lineage 28May Build and this automaticly encrypt my device ...
I've read on the internet that if the device is encrypted the flash process is a bit diferent.
I've read about wipe data cache dalvik and system
wipe data cache dalvik system and internal storage
And flash adb ...
So, now i tried to go to TWRP and it just apears Mi Logo!
Not booting into any recovery (Stock or TWRP)
I've installed Miui.eu and the recovery is ok
I flash Lineage and i can't boot into recovery anymore ...
What to do?
Issues :
1 - Can't boot into TWRP
2 - What process is to flash a new Lineage Rom? ( I want to decrypt my device to flash more easily)
I really need help ...
I don't know if my bootloader is unlocked or locked right now, because i flashed too many roms ...
Need help !

1)Try to reflash twrp from fastboot mode.(if you can't do this, then your bootloader is locked. And no matter how many roms you install, bootloader, once unlocked remains unlocked, untill you lock purposefully).
2)In twrp wipe cache, dalvik, and if necessary data for clean installation.
3) Once any custom ROM is installed, while in mi logo , you cannot directly boot to twrp. You have to go to fastboot and from there boot to twrp.
4) First install only ROM. Once it gets installed turn it on. Once it successfully turns on, then you can install gapps ( this is not always necessary to be followed)
5) formatting data completely will decrypt your device. Just goto format data and type "yes". You need not goto advanced wipe.

Hi XDA!
I am using FreedomOS 1.9 so I'd like to change it to Resurrection Remix-OS.
Before do it, I have the next questions:
I already Have the .img from Codework's TWRP, can I dirty flash it through my current TWRP to "upgrade" it or should I just use cmd via Windows with fastboot mode?
I want to wipe all my actual data (apps, media, etc) to let the OP5 empty and begin form 0? Can I wipe data now that I am in FreedomOS and it will start the rom like the 1st time? Will may be some problems if I do it?
I have my OP encrypted, is this a problem? If I must unencrypt it, how can I do it?
I hope you can help me, I do not want to become my OP5 in a paperweight.
Thank you for the help! :fingers-crossed:
Make sure the following,
1. TWRP should be latest, atleast 3.2.1 (check RR ROM about which version of TWRP it suggests)
2. Most of the custom ROM suggests clean flash i.e wipe Dalvik, Cache, System and Data in TWRP
3. Take complete backup of your apps via Titanium Backup or any similar app
4. Before you flash, make sure to take a full system backup in TWRP and transfer to your PC just in case
5. Secure all your images, videos, files from your device internal memory to your PC just in case your phone gets formatted
6. If the ROM sugest to do format data in TWRP (TWRP > Wipe > Format data), it will decrypt your phone and consequently you will loose all your information from your internal memory, and this is the reason why you have take full copy of your info as explained in step 5 above
As long as you make sure the steps mentioned above are taken care, you are good to go..
Hello Guys,
After flashing few pie roms and few GSI I faced really big trouble. When we flash rom we must install erecovery and factory format data. After doing this we loose everything on our internal memory. And this is very headaches. :silly:
So I search many times " How to flash pie roms without wiping internal storage" Finally I figure out a method. Some times you know about this, Some times you don't know about this. Pls let me guide.
• I do not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards
We call this "Universal DM-Verity, ForceEncrypt, Disk Quota Disablers"
Link here - https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/universal-dm-verity-forceencrypt-t3817389/amp/
Introduction....
• If you're currently encrypted: BACKUP YOUR INTERNAL STORAGE TO YOUR PC.
1- Download zip file
2- Reboot to recovery, Then format data.
3- Reboot back into recovery
4- After doing that or if you're not encrypt anymore
5- Make a backup using TWRP ( Ramdisk,Vendor)
6- Wipe required partitions(If you want)
7- Flash your rom, custom kernel (if applicable), then this zip, the magisk/supersu/other root, then Gapps
8- Most important part after flashing rom, You must factory reset using twrp. (TWRP -> Wipe -> slide Left to Right)
• This zip should be flashed after anything that modifies your boot img (like a custom kernel) but before magisk/supersu since this zip creates the files that tells magisk/supersu to not encrypt.
Congratulations now you don't need bootloader for flash roms... Feel Free

So i flashed twrp on my phone than i flashed lineage os after that i wiped everyting in twrp (idk why)
no in slotb i get in lineage recovery
if i try flashing an os it works liek it should i wipe dalvik i reboot and it kicks me in bootloader everytime
what should i do now this is my only phone and dont know what to do
Use the msm tool and, you will at least bring your phone back to a operable device.
I have a Guide for Installing Lineage here.
I'll highlight the step right after format data:
Factory Reset. (This is the slider at the bottom, do not Wipe system, do NOT Wipe Dalvik / ART, do not add anything else)
In TWRP you can backup anything you need if you haven't already. Then I would recommend using the fastboot ROM.
