Looking for advice on a head unit - Android Head-Units

Hi all,
Been doing some research and am looking to get a HU to take on a round-the-world overland trip in an SUV. Want something decently stable, don’t want to spend too much. Has to be a 2DIN standard unit. Been reading the forums here but getting a bit lost between the Aliexpress units. A few questions.
- Should I get built in LTE, or a USB dongle? LTE is basically required as I’ll be using Google Maps / Waze on the trip.
- Do all units basically have the same 7” 1024x600 screen?
- I want it to be relatively snappy. Intel or Mediatek octacore?
Any advice on what to get? I don’t need a DVD so if that helps save space / pick a better unit, I’m all for it.
Thanks for any help!

I have a 10.2 inch Dasaita universal, huge amazing IPS panel., so there are a few options on siza but mine might block too much of your car factory controls.
I am also looking at doing a 4g lte dongle but the deck, and most android head units will, works awesome just with a wifi Hotspot from your phone.
I think most dongles are tied to manufacturers so you might want to look at each deck offers. I could be wrong on this and someone way smarter than I on these deck might be able to answer that.

Thanks. Yeah I was considering a pop-out one, but for the car that I want, I'm worried it'll block the controls...
As for LTE, yeah the hotspot is probably good enough, but in my "day to day" car I got a LTE-capable 10.25" unit, and it's pretty awesome - I don't need to think about anything, it just works. The 2DIN one would be for my dad more than me, and... well, yeah, it really needs to just work, otherwise I'm afraid it'll go unused

2 questions new head unit install

Hi all-
at one time I was interested in converting a tablet into a head unit, but lacked the know-how so I finally just bought one from ali express and installed it; android 4.4 and I can't post links so you can
use the ali search and enter: 2 DIN Android 4.4 7 Inch Bluetooth Audio In Dash to find the specific unit that looks like

For the most part, it's great- but I have two questions that would make it even better
(1) I can play music and audiobooks (two different apps) over bluetooth, and the audio is perfect. When I get bluetooth calls though, it starts with a blast of static and then nothing- I assumed it was a mic or feedback problem, but I just played a voicemail recording from the phone AT&T "visual voicemail" app, and it did the same thing even though that is just playing a recording and shouldn't be using the mic at all. Does anyone know what if there is some other difference between 'audio out' apps that might cause some to work find, and others to have problems? There are rear ports for audio input, but I don't think those replace the mic, so for now I'm stuck with external troubleshooting (I'm not ready to take it apart and start doing surgery on the unit)
[EDIT: it also plays the audio from Google Maps with no problem]
(2) The unit has a very long splash screen- so long, that I can get out my 150' driveway and down the block before it goes away and allows BT to connect to play my audiobooks. I looked through the menus but haven't found a way to shorten that screen. I realize this may require rooting if it is not a publically available setting. Where should I be looking (or is it stored in a file somewhere?), and if rooting is required, how does a newbie like me figure out the best options for rooting, preferably leaving the rest of the OS as-is so I don't accidently jack up the reverse and forward camera functions, etc?
I'm not a frequenter of XDA, but this seems to be the most knowledgable place for this type of thing- so I appreciate you pointing me in the right direction
Many thanks!

Ipod on Hizpo

I just got this Hizpo 6.2" inch Android 7.1 Double Din In Dash Radio.
According to the manual, this unit appears to support Ipods, but I can't find any info on it
It has a port on the back for a wire harness also after enabling it in the factory settings, it adds a Ipod icon to the app drawer.
Does any have any info on this or know where to get a wiring harness?

Did you ever find a resolution for this? I'm in the exact same boat. I am trying to deal with the support folks but it is a slow process.
Thanks

Ya I did, I returned the unit. I talked to support and it is not supported on this unit even tho the port is there. They use the same parts and software for multiple units.

Ah, gotcha. I made sure to ask before I bought the one I have if it supported ipods, they said it would so that's why I bought it. Starting to get the feeling it might not after all. Thanks for the reply!
Does the mp3 player not have a headphone jack?

Looking for advice on a Android head unit for my VW Touareg

I don't know why I didn't just come to XDA first. I recently picked up a 2008 VW Touareg. The factory Nav system has to go, it's like playing a 8-bit video game and don't even get me started on how tedious it is using the search function without touch screen controls.
What I am looking for in a head unit:
Obviously running Android OS
Customizing ability, aka rooting, custom ROM and/or Launcher. I here THIS launcher is good, but I don't know if it works with all Android head units.
Backup Camera support (a bonus would be to be able to keep my OEM camera)
DVR to use with dash cameras
Steering wheel control support
Ability to install 3rd party apk's as well as use the Google Play store for apps.
It seems all the Android head units have one thing in common, they are all weird companies I've never heard of from China and the support I get is very limited when I have questions. Even if I go to Alibaba there are like 10 radios that all look the same. It also seems they all do about the same thing and have the same look so knowing what is what is not easy. This is where I am hoping you guys can help.
I have my eye on the company Seicane. They make THIS unit that will fit right in with no dash mods but the downside is a smaller screen. So with that said, I am leaning to a full double din radio but a lot of these are universal and don't say specifically if they work for my make/model car. I attached a pic of my OEM head unit if it helps.

Thanks in advance for any answers you have.
I don't have any experience with the seicane or other android units yet (i'm looking at getting my first one now as well). That seicane unit should just drop right in with no issue which is nice. Other standard double din units should work, but you'll need to use a dash install kit. Be careful though. From what i've been reading it sounds like a lot of these chinese units are a slightly different size than standard double din. larger by a couple mm I think. They still fit, but you may have to modify the dash kit a bit to fit it.

How to upgrade Android version on head unit? "YT9216BJ"

Hey All.
I just got a head unit for my 2005 Mazda and found out that the actual version is Marshmalllow 6 instead of the advertised 8.1.
Do most head units come with fake 'upgrades'? I used Aida64 app to query list my device (hope accurate).
Is there a way to actually install Android 8.1 on my head unit?
Unit Info:
YT9216BJ_00012_V001_20200515 <--- build I.D. kernel version (supposedly)
MCU 3.1
Alps AC8227L_demo <--- (not upgradable?)
And... what the heck is 'XY Auto' ?

I had an issue with connecting to my steering wheel control until I went into the Factory Settings to change my CanBus info.
After cycling through different providers and versions I found the 'Raise - 22017 Mazda' works for my 2005 control. (finally says 'connection' instead of 'disconnect")
The only issue I still have is Not being able to connect my stock OEM LCD panel to the head unit, different connection (12-pin vs. 14pin)
Another con I have to get used to: No AM Radio, FM only.
But overall, not too bad for a $130 unit to upgrade my stock radio in my old car.
Now if I can actually get Android 8.1 on it.
Anyone know where I can get latest firmware that'll work for this particular unit ?
Looks like I have the same HU than you in my 2018 Sorento. I'll take a look to see what Aida64 has to say about mine.
Check out this guide to make your unit much better. Faster, better looking and with unlimited tweaking options as well as vast sound improvements.
can anyone know where I can get this update for Android car stereo
update name- "UP_UI19_F27LJ_00011_V001
Hello does this mod or any other fit my radio

Joying HU 2020

Just installed a Joying 7" HU to an Australian Hyundai i30:
Spec JY - UO128N4GSN 8-Core Intel Spreadtrum SC9853i 1.8GHZ
Operating System: Android 8.1 Oreo
GPU: Maili T820 MP2
So far I have been very pleased with the operation and appearance of this HU after owning a prev version 4 years ago.
I have one bug I don't seem to be able to get the better of. I hope someone on this forum may be able to help.
I got a USB front camera mounted beside the center mirror. The camera is a generic Chinese unit U2 with ADAS etc. from E bay. The camera came with "Traffic Safety Guard" pre loaded into it's RAM. I put a 16G card in the camera slot. The software installed into the HU OK.
The picture from the camera displayed on the HU is very good. If I start the program it records the video very well and tags it with date time etc.
Problem:
The HU will not auto load the camera software on restarting the car.
The HU auto starts all other programs I left running like Radio, GPS nav and all others like music player.
If I manually restart the "Traffic Safety Guard" app all is well until I restart the car. Then the HU drops the program again. - infuriating.
Joying offered NO help on my request, said it was normal.
I tried a few Auto Start Apps but they do not change the problem - it still wont restart the camera app automatically.
Any help would be great. Keep in mind I am not proficient at writing software I am an ex telephone tech so elec trickery is my thing.

Use FYTStarter from @bambapin
See here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-ram-32gb-flash.3897206/page-58#post-80411035
You can sssign apps to be started on boot/resume from sleep.
That solution worked perfectly first time!!!
I now don't have to worry every time I start the car if I have turned the camera on.
Thank you for your help!
This forum and ones like it are one of the better things about the internet.
Thanks again.
