As most know OnePlus has added their own Face unlock feature with OOS 5.0.2 Oreo. I'm curious to find:
Are you using it?
If your using it do you like it?
Which do you prefer no Face unlock, Android Face unlock or OOS Face unlock?
How reliable have you found it?
How secure do you feel it is?
For myself, I'm impressed as it is so fast and seems to work under any light conditions with the "Face unlock assistive lighting" option on. I never used the Android version of face unlock so can't really compare. I plan to keep using it with a little more verification that it can't easily be fooled (need access to relatives). During the little time that I've tried this new feature, I'm finding that I don't use the finger print scanner to unlock the phone anymore. I was also surprised that it worked with and without my glasses on, which I was sure would effect this feature.
Yes
Yes
OOS
100% so far
Not sure.
I'm using it. It's working 100% so far but how secure? It's not very secure at all since this is only software and no hardware involved which i believe is need for using it for things like payments. The hardware is whats used i think for the depth and contour of your face so a picture can't be used to unlock the phone.this I think is why OOS version of FaceID or FaceUnlock can't be used for payments. It only works if you're look at it pretty much straight on and if you're looking down or close you eyes, it doesn't accept your face, but as soon as I open my eyes it's instant.
Works like a charm, works with or without glases. Use it as a dayly driver. Didn't try to fool it, maybe someone can try.
it gets the job done very well.......i love it.....as far as recognizing with or without glasses i don't find that to work. amazed how fast it is. i found it to work with the phone tilted away from my face at about 30 degrees to the side. its as secure as i want it to be.......just keep my phone locked for when its not on me.......i dont bother to hide lockscreen notifications anyways.......
It works, but took a selfie with another phone and that picture could open my phone. Not very secure at all. Only for convenience.
Works very well but it's not so useful for me. I mean, thumbnail sensor can be used even without looking at the phone.

Are you using Face unlock or Google's Smart Lock? Since it doesn't unlock with pictures, neither with videos. I have tried both several times as well as my gf
Sent from my OnePlus 5 using XDA Labs
I use Face Unlock since it come out, on ob4. Very Fast! But works only in good light. In a room with low light not that well. Could not unlock until i type the PIN.
Now, on ob5 works even better.
Oos Face Unlock.

Turn on the "Face unlock assistive lighting" option on the OOS Face unlock panel. That option uses the light sensor to turn the lock screen white if the ambient light is too low for OOS Face unlock to work. The white screen generates enough reflective light to let OOS Face unlock function. For me, that resolves the issue you described. The lock screen ONLY turns white if the light is low, so it is actually an elegant solution to the issue you describe.
I use it and it seems to work well - very fast. No idea on security. I'll try not to lose my phone

I see that in ob5. The white screen it's for the phone camera to see my face in the dark. It's even Faster. Works very well in the dark.
Yep,
Or course... I do.
Oos is the first, never tried others.

Looks preety secure, doesn't unlock when my eyes are closed. Tried my image to unlock it & it won't unlock.
New here so first, Hello to everyone.
I am planning to buy a LEMFO Lem4 pro. The things that attracted me most is the large screen and full call functionality. Have watched a number of reviews on YT which helped to gain trust on the build quality & battery so far, but left with the following questions-
1. Once YT video I saw on "Hidden Settings" where every app opended were in Potrait mode. So, is there any option to make all apps in landscpae orientation, to work comfortably from wrist?
2. I saw some posts regarding problems after OTA. So, id there anyway to disable OTA update or there is a fix already?
3. Saw something regarding GPS/Accelarometer not working but starts working after inserting SIM. Does that problem still prevails or any solution out there?
4. Can someone give a hands on review after a month / number of days use? How it's still going? How much stress it still handles? Touch response slow? Wrist turning activating watch slow? something like these.
5. Is it okay to stay with the stock android if I strictly want to use for making calls, reading emails, sending text and use absolute necessary apps like Google maps or YT. Or there is a way to root yet?
6. Previously I was planing to buy Finow Q1 pro, then saw a serious notification problem (from XDA board). Is there any software related issue with the stock android also?
Thanks for you patience .
Re Lem4 pro
I have a Lemfo Lem4 pro since 3 months and i use it as my primary phone with sim inside.
1 : use 'rotation control' apk on play store.
2 : no problems after OTA.
3 : no problem with GPS (but i have my sim inside).
5 : it's ok with stock Android and not rooted.
This is the best watchphone i ever get ( have tested more than 10 models since 10 years ), the sound is really good in phone call, the screen is great (cool for the eyes), GPS is ok with Google-Map, wifi and bluetooth ok, despite the big screen she's cool to wear because lightweight, strap can be change... I use it with vocal command (Google) for everything : call, reply to sms, research, etc...
No problems and happy with this watch.
I have already bought the new Lemfo LEM4 Pro watch phone about 1 month ago and I love it! Nice big enough 2.2 inch screen, easily visible at daylight
Looks Slimmer and weights lighter than the Neptune Pine and with 16 Gigabyte of onboard non-removable memory, I have already installed many apps and used almost half of its memory (only apps, no music, photos or videos as they take huge amounts of memory, but I did copy some of all aforementioned files just for fun and they work great)
It comes with a very restrictive app launcher, just install any launcher from the Google Play store and you can install any widgets and apps you like, I went for the Nova Launcher and it works great
On the negative side, the GPS doesn't work (maybe I am doing something wrong?), it has only one useless other than video conferencing front facing camera that has terrible resolution and accelerometer doesn't work for some reason
But I much prefer it than the bulky Neptune Pine, also thinking of buying a cheap flat camera for the occasional snapshot that I need to take while on the go

I have to agree. I have two Neptunes 128GB. I also have a lem4. They are all wasted by the crippled Kernel and OS.
Now the LEM 4 PRO. Wow, I paid over the odds for it, but I didn't mind as LEMFO UK, have always been good to me.

Its semi rooted. Very frustrating, as I cant use any of my banking apps.
I ended up fully rooting. Rooting was tricky. I started by following what I posted in LEM4 thread. Root fails. So you have to factory reset phone. Install the Windows version of Kingoroot and run that on freshly erased LEM4 PRO. It will take a while and then come back saying its failed. Reboot LEM4 PRO, install SuperSU app and you will find its rooted even though it failed. Bonus is now it didn't install all the Kingo crap.

many thanks for the replies everyone. I have already ordered Lem4Pro and now waiting for this to arrive. About the rooting, can you elaborate the process a little? May be 6-7 bullet points? That would be very helpful. And I remember to read some guide line about the GPD issue ... here it goes for you guys to try out-
I found a solution to broken GPS on Lem4 pro if it has failed for some if they factory reset watch after the latest firmware upgrade. I flashed back the Aug 2 firmware and did not factory reset after this update and GPS returned to normal. To keep GPS working you must not factory reset watch after OTA or Flashing firmware All good now This is a temp fix until or if a new firmware fix becomes available.

Hi, could you share a link with aug 2 firmware? Unfortunately GPS does not work in my lem4 pro too. Thank you.
How Can I remove google account on my Lem4 Pro? I need to change google account on my Play Store in Lem4 pro. How to change it?
Phone call quality.
Hi all!
Regarding phone call quality of you useing the watch as a stand alone, how good is it? How good is the signal strength compared to regular cell phone?
And how well does Google assistant translate voice accurately? Does it mess up text messages?
I've had Lemfo lem 4 and was disappointed about phone call quality, even changing providers. People couldn't hear all of what I said when having lesser reception, even if my cell phone had no problems in same areas. I live in Stockholm, so signals should not be a problem unless it's a week antenna on the Lemfo.
Any experiences about this would be much appreciated!
Best regards!

Excellent info!
One question; do you have experience of the regular lem4 (not the pro), and if so, is the call quality or signal strength any better?
Reason for question is that I owned the regular lem4 and had problems with the antenna.
Thx!
Beware that this device is not equipped with a magnetic sensor. Very sad, given I bought it exactly for navigation (why else would you want a smartwatch with huge screen? who would expect that nowadays devices without compass still exist?!) GPS navigation software will not be able to show you direction of you walk, only change in your location - very inconvenient...
Guys,
Have one of these but find if i charge it from a pc then the display becomes corrupt and disappears. The only way to fix
this is to reboot the watch after every recharge. Is this normal?.Thanks
les
Good to know about the gps hardware that is non-existent!!
Actually, this is just one more thing to frustrate me even more right now.
Im from Brazil and I just bought this new huge thing in my tiny wrist ( the pictures I've seen on internet do no justice of it's size and bulkiness) and the one thing i have to say is: i dont know what im doing.
I wasnt able to put another keyboard that was easier to use,
i couldnt syncronize with my phone so that I could receive the notifications
I wasnt able to get it to recognize my sim card until one day later with it inserted
I wasnt able to get it to respond to my "ok google".
the google voice command that people told me to install receive my commands in portuguese but only obeys if they in english (?! wtf) so I can't really use it because it recognizes what i am saying in english as the closest word in portuguese there is...
I wasnt able to do voice-to-text writing even tho it came with the device settings.....
realsed only just now that there practically no apps for this particular smart watch that really is fitted for it.
all of the apps for smart watches on the play store are for Android Wear watches and dont work on it, because this is an Android 5.1 especifically made for this product...
I'm just lost as, on top of all that, all the content I find on the internet to educate myself is in english and in technical jargon
Very frustrated!
Lemfo Lem4 Pedometer
Hi,
I have an issue with my Lemfo Lem4 Pro, which is pedometer functionality.
With embedded watchfaces very often pedometer counter resets to 0, rarerly allowing to count more than 1000 steps. This is annoying
Additional applications for counting steps installed work properly and count.
Any ideas?
Have you tried this launcher? Works ok on the Lem4 Pro.

Seems to be a round watch launcher. The LEMFO in this forum is the square one.
Does it need rooting?
Yes it works perfectly for the 640x320 screen of the LEM4 Pro without any adjustments. I'm testing that launcher now and am very impressed so far. It seems to be popular with fans of the watch.

Magisk Patched.img isn't there.
Hi,
I'm trying to figure what options there are for robust call recording apps on rooted OP6Ts.
I'd like to know if a specific call recording application functions on Andriod Pie after rooting the device.
This application
here's the app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appstar.callrecorder&hl=en_US
If those running a rooted OP6T would install the app and make a few calls I'd appreciate it.
Here's a number to Health and Human Services Office of Civil Right (all prerecorded menus; we won't bother anyone) to do test calls: (800) 368-1019
You may need to do some basic setup. Make sure call recording occurs automatically, or allow the overlay and manually engage the call recording.
For those willing to go to some effort, if at first the app doesn't work, the "Recording Settings" can be tweaked.
I don't know what the difference is between methods, other than that they change how the app tries to get voice data to record.
Can you hear both yourself and the the caller in the recording?
What recording settings were used?
What format did the recording save to (AAC/MP3/Wav?)
What is the sound quality of the recording?
Do any of the above change if you plug in a USB-C earbud/microphone or earbud/microphone attached via USB-C to 3.5mm/TRRS.
(note: bluetooth headsets have compatibility issues even on phones the app works; headset would need to be wired for this test, though info on Bluetooth would be nice if one is so inclined to provide it)
In the applications inbox for recordings, does the number or contact information show up, or is it listed only as "outgoing" or "incoming" call.
Alternatively, I'd be interested in any information/experiences rooted users may have with other call recording software. Such as Another Call Recorder - Unchained (https://labs.xda-developers.com/store/app/com.nll.acr). In particular, reliability and call recording quality (as good as 'the call').
Note: I'm aware Native Call Recording can be enabled via ADB. I have done this in my testing. The sound quality is awful on the OP6T I have (which is unrooted; uncertain yet if I need to return).
It seems the OP6T or the OP6T I received has issues with AAC/mp4 and other codecs, which may or may not involve something to do with how it's handling sampling rates - I recall reading that certain ROMs cause issues with audio frequency/sampling. It's a mystery to me. Looking to gather more information and hope that members of XDA can assist in this.
theres a magisk module to enable call recording. works perfect. at least it does on my 6t. recordings are clear. no issues at all. root your phone and try it. no need to install a recording app. the module even works on android 10 so.

Well, so my understanding is the Magisk module basically enables the native call recorder.
I've done that via ADB without rooting the phone and the call recording quality is poor. The the call recording apps still don't work properly. Though some of them can use the native call recorder to record calls. But again, audio quality is poor.
Meanwhile, my galaxy s5 on Marshmallow records with excellent sound quality. Though some calls get missed or have issues, which why I want to upgrade/resolve this problem.
Also, the need to note who a call is from and what was spoke of so as to create a call database that allows making sense of matters, I need that to be able to go back and sort through notes. An app lets me do that: date, time, person, with brief synopsis of most relevant information taken directly after the call ended and was saved.
Anyways, I'm not sure if it's a problem with the phone I received (it is 'refurbished' via Amazon Renewed) or a problem with the 6T, but every application I've tried to make a voice recording or call recording using AAC or MP4 runs into this poor audio quality recording issue in addition to the 'other party' not being recorded. This poor audio quality issue exists even with the ADB command and native call recording. Meanwhile, if I call my Galaxy S5 and just speak through the OP6T through my earbuds connected via USB-C dac, the S5 records a perfectly audible call recording.
So...I was hoping to hear more from other 6T owners and see if rooting could be expected to change any of these problems, or at least determine if these are problems that can be observed by others. It's kind of hard to assess if rooting will help out without committing to keeping this phone. The moment I root, it's hard to return it if things turn out to not work out the way I need.
Rooting the phone takes 5 minutes, installing the module less than one. You'll have your answer in less time than it took you write your posts.
Experiment instead of being in the abstract. You'll know then if you have to return the phone, after uninstalling root. From OnePlus point of view, rooting doesn't invalidate the warranty.

why can't you restore the phone? the normal msmdownloadtool is for international 6t's theres even one available for the t-mobile 6t to return it to t-mo's firmware. do some looking. it's all available on this forum.
also why not try android q. why pie for this. i don't see the point in pie when q is out and pretty stable atm

So, I doubt they'd appreciate the phone being rooted. You're quite right that the most expedient method would be to root and find out, just one I hesitate to try. If rooting didn't turn out to be a solution, I must return the OP6T to the Amazon seller.
Looking into things, I've learned the OP6T has a history of problems with microphone audio in third party applications. And a post at one call recording app developer's forum suggested some phones have issues with sampling frequencies that are caused by ROM issues.
Some OOS update notes indicate fixes have been made in some versions for mic issues, but I'll have to update to see if the issues I'm encountering are the same they addressed. I'm trying to find the right ROMs from a trusted source to update the phone, as the auto-update just sits there and tells me 9.0.11 OOS is 'up-to-date'.
Strangely, OnePlus doesn't offer previous firmware's via their support site, just the latest, which updates to Andriod 10, and I have more issues with call recording exist with 10 than 9.

Does Andriod Q have some benefit to call recording? I recall a news article that postulated Google might be restoreing call recording, but it remains unclear if, how, or when.
OnePlus don't care about root. You can do whatever you want with your phone as long as your don't mess with hardware. It doesn't void the warranty at all. But if you prefer to colocate things it's up to you. Good luck.

Well, when I chatted with their support they said their official recommendation was to not root. Which is pretty much what every manufacturer says. I'll keep it in mind. Going to await OnePlus supports assistance tracking down an older OOS version to flash; see what they does.

google actually removed the ability to record calls in q. even there api is no longer allowed. the reason for this is because call recording is illegal in probably 90% of the world. however since it is legal in a few places(specifically places oneplus sells there phones) oneplus allows it if you enable the feature by toggling it on. hence the magisk module for it. the call recording magisk module that installs an app also works really well on q but it's 10$ for the full app that gets installed. for me it was just easier to enable the built in feature. besides why pay 10$ if you dont have to.

Does Andriod Q break call recording for OnePlus phones, or does the toggle still work?
Does rooting restore call recording to Q in other phones?
Do you think it's possible to create a custom ROM that adds back the call recording API to Q so that full call recording capability is restored?

why would it break it on q on oneplus phones. they have there own implimentation of it. it's disabled by default but can easially be enabled once on the official oneplus software. and yes this includes converted t-mobile 6t's
why would rooting restore call recording on other phones. this isnt other phones threads this is a oneplus 6t thread. you wanna know about other phones go ask in there threads not here
no. as i said google has disabled the feature in q and dropped the api for it so no it is not possible to add it to a custom rom that i know of.
you want anymore info ask elsewhere as i really dont know much more then what i have already mentioned
I have been googling and spending days to get a definitive answer.
I got a S20+ 5G last week, so my S8 on Android 9.0 was demoted to my secondary phone. I use my secondary phone just for call recording because in my line of work, I sometimes have to record the conversations I have with people, with their knowledge that its being recorded.
Till now I used a Sony Xperia Z3 on Android 6.0.0., which allowed call recording apps, but now I want to switch to my S8.
As the S8 is now my secondary phone, I am prepared to do anything necessary to get this function, even if means I have to root, trip knox, loose the fingerprint sensor or what ever.
I just can't seem to find a definitive guide on how to root a Exynos S8, nor if that will enable call recordning, or which apps to use when I eventually root my phone.
I have the SM-G950F model, Mar 1 Security update. From what I gathered, I can't downgrade to oreo or nougat because I have previously updated to Android Pie and the bootloader won't allow it.
Can anybody give some advice?

I just can't seem to find a definitive guide on how to root a Exynos S8, nor if that will enable call recordning, or which apps to use when I eventually root my phone.
I have the SM-G950F model, Mar 1 Security update. From what I gathered, I can't downgrade to oreo or nougat because I have previously updated to Android Pie and the bootloader won't allow it.
Can anybody give some advice?

Longtime listener first time caller,
I am getting a Galaxy S10+ Dual Sim Exynos Unassigned and Factory Unlocked. I'm thinking about using the Hades ROM, but before I pull the trigger I wanted to ask if I'll still be able to do 3D photos and if the picture quality will be the same...? Do would I still be able to use the Samsung camera app? etc. I know that won't be able to switch back once I make the change so I'm just trying to do my research first.
