White version, glossy sticker over G logo?? - Google Pixel 4 Questions & Answers

Anyone else with the white version notice that the G logo on the back has this sort of glossy "sticker" over it? Is it a sticker? is it supposed to be there? You can notice it in certain lighting if you angle the phone. On top of that, mine is kind of off centered and not completely covering the gray part of the G logo.

I have this. Maybe its refraction caused by the glass back?

What mattjuk says, it's a reflection. If you look at it then spin the phone, the "off center" look will face the exact same way as you spin the phone.

When you run your finger over the g logo do you feel a slight bump? that's what I feel on mine

It's not a bump, it's a texture transition. The entire back is glass, the G is mirrored not frosted. If you look you can feel the difference at the G, not at the "sticker" reflection you're seeing.
It's normal. There is no sticker.

Just Got A Black Aluminium Case From Ebay (pdair) Pictures Attached.

Okay so I ordered a back aluminium case on eBay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220167294721
This case has exceeded my expectations. Only though....the LCD portion of the case is protected by a plastic cover where as.... I was expecting just a knockout like all the other parts of the aluminium. I still don't know, if this is a plus or not, because while it does protect the screen, I was hoping to at least use the touch screen while its in the case, but at least I know its fully protected. Another feature which made me just love this case even more was the fact that the belt clip could be screwed with the phone being inside, many other cases either have a fixed belt clip (clumbersom) or if you want to use the belt clip you have to screw on a disc, and prep it. With this case you can screw the disc in 2 seconds and do not need a screwdriver or any other tools, it's truly quick fit, screw on, screw off.
One note: the finish I ordered is BLACK which can be seen from the pictures, it also comes in Silver, now it has some sort or tactile finish to it, kind of that powder coated, scratch resistant feel. I don't think the Silver version will be like this, I am sure you will see the natural brushed grains of Aluminium. I still don't know if I should have hosen the Silver. I hate scratches and i figured Black doesnt show scratches and I like Black, although I do love Natural Aluminium too, but I was afraid of scratches and if it appeared cheep, luckily though I am giving one of these cases as a gift so I am going to order the Silver one and choose which one I like better and give the least as the gift.
In any case the powder scratch resistant coating on the Black version is awesome and If after a week I feel the plastic cover that protects the LCD prooves to be of a bother I think I will have to knock it out.
In the pictures you will NOT notice that there is a Plastic cover... I know I have said this numerous times, you may thank me alter on for warning you.
Another thing that impressed me was the box the case arrived in, and the cotton wrap the case was wrapped in... exactly how my Louis Vuitton wallet shipped, very impressed, they really paid attension to the details down to the box.

I have to ask you about your 2nd pic showing the back side though ... what is that blueish frame around the camera area ???
It also looks to me that your device's back side is not of black colour to begin with ?? mine is a TyTN II & I don't have that ... it is totally black ...
Probably it's because your device is another variation of the Kaiser ??
BTW ... I also got the same black case arrived yesterday too

That blue part on the camera is just a protective film that is sometimes put on the silver panels to protect them from scratching. It is kind of like a sticker (but not quite so sticky), and it can be easily removed.
How heavy is it compared to the original one?
Regards,
Carty..
looks pretty good.. but does it make the power button harder to push than it already is?

well that answer one thing ... but...
if you look at the back of that device ... it's silver or lighter colours exposed where the opening of the back are ( 4 shorts & 1 long lines ) ...etc
that made me thought of other variations of the device. Since I owned a black TyTN II, that's all I know to go by ... is it's completely black at the back ... not like the pic.

upon closer look of the 4th pic ( D-Pad & buttons )... I now realized that it's NOT a TyTN II after all
That is odd, its not blu its the same color as everyone elses, I have the T-Mobile version which is not black, its gunmetal but the camera plate, is the same color as your, somehow the flash caused a blue tint.

that is so funny man, I always used to miss it too feeling around, especially when it was in my car holder, I am so used to the Hermes (TYTN) that I am feeling around for a second before I find it.
BTW did anyone else have the problem of the sliding? If you owned a TYTN then you will knwo what I am talking about, the slide is in the opposite direction, it takes tiem to get used to.

Defective Bezel Seal And Defective Digitizer Seal.

My MyTouch 3G Slide has a couple defects. The bezel or plastic housing that surrounds the upper portion of the device surrounding the screen has gaps in it around the seam that allows dust or any small particulate to enter under the screen. I have looked at several of the devices and they all have it to one degree or another. For instance, on my Slide I have 3 of these holes one of which has allowed a grain of sand under my screen. My wife's Slide has 4 of these holes or gaps and they are substantial on her phone. One XDA member has had this happen in the same spot that both my wife and my Slides are collecting dust.
While the light leaks or gaps in the bezel are a problem (for me) I think the real problem lies in the adhesive strip that connects the digitizer to the LCD screen. The way the digitizer is adhered to the LCD there shouldn't be any way for dust to have gotten in between the two pieces of hardware. I'd like to believe that it was just my particular phone but my wife's phone is having the exact same issue.
The phone really is phenomenal and I'm sure it was just a fluke that I've had issues (hoping so). Just keep an eye out for any issues similar to what I've mentioned above. I have really gone back and forth with this and I am definitely disappointed with having an issue(s) right out of the gate. My wife really likes the phone and after giving it some thought I like it as well ... a lot. I will return and reorder another couple Slides because this device is that awesome. Thanks for your thoughts/contributions to the thread.
I've tried to get some photos of the gaps but they are small and hard to photograph. To inspect your device: Go into a dark area and pull up your contacts, messaging app or a white web page in the browser with full screen brightness and inspect the seam of the plastic housing surrounding the touch screen on the top half of the slide. The gaps are almost like rectangular notches just below/above the corners of the screen in the seam. My theory is that these are artifacts from the plastic molding process that were exacerbated by poor/hasty assembly. I am definitely returning my Slides.
Its all true. After reading, and seeing the image posted by another member here, I checked my phone. I went into a dark room, opened up a site that has pretty much a white page, and I too noticed a gap at the bottom right hand corner of my screen. As of right now no dust/dirt has shown up under my screen, but what's to say that it won't later on. Heck, screw dirt. What if moisture finds its way in, and starts to fog up the screen from within? This could be a major problem later on down the road.
whew... just checked mine, noticed nothing like that, thank goodness.

Strange, I've confirmed with everyone I know with a Slide (only black and white thus far) and everyone is seeing the same thing. What color Slide did you get? I wonder if the red Slide is manufactured differently? Anyway, that is awesome because I think the phone is GREAT other than the small gaps in the bezel.
I will say I took some compressed air and attempted to move the artifact under my screen just to see if air was moving through those gaps. The grain of sand or whatever it is did not budge. I'm just not sure what to think. I hate the idea of returning this phone ...
Mine is like that. Not that i care much as im returning it soon. But it does have gaps and light leakage all over the bottom of the screen, near the buttons.
i just check my and maybe i cant see it but i havent found anything... i have a red one
Re: My MT3G Slides (and others) Have A Defective Touch Screen Bezel
Initialy checked mine as well, black. I don't appear to have this problem either.
I will inspect further to verify.

The only one I have is at the very bottom of the buttons, which might even just be the light hitting the glass at a specific angle. Other than that, no light leaks/cracks/blocks/whatever you call them on my screen area. Red Espresso.
I just swapped my white MTS for a Black one with no signs of cracks or light showing threw. TMO rep did not know of this problem and said he would send out an e-mail to other reps to let them know.
My day is now ruined
Yep, both bottom sides, right at the corners, above the buttons. I will not return it though, think instead a lil duct tape and some JB weld will do (seriously, a little touch of black silicon for a good seal, still sucks though). Screen cover seems to be blocking any dirt at the moment.
woow good looking out.. i was wondering how a spec of dust got to my screen. im planning on putting a piece of scotch tape over those regions (i have a red slide btw).
I have a red one and didn't see any leaks bottom or top. Thank goodness!

I hear you; I've been trying to find a way to keep the bezel sealed until I can get a case/cover for the phone. I literally have one tiny grain of sand at the bottom left hand corner of my screen. I so don't want to return the phone; I'm in love with the thing.
Glad to hear some of you have a better seal on the bezel.
I have some small light leak on the bottom, not an issue yet and I'm still within my 14 days so I might stop by the t mobile store tomorrow and try to get a replacement.
1. slight curved gaps at the corner edge where the top of the plastic curves down to turn into the sides. check
2. vertical rectangular light leak above home and genius keys. check
3. these lights only light up when hard keys are lit..when screen first lights up...light leaks are not there...once keys light up, light in the gaps light up. doesnt this mean the screen is sealed and there is no leak from the screen itself?
4. however, if you have a creaky top plastic housing, the seam running along the edge of the white plastic and grey plastic is not flush...on my 1st slide, i could see the screen light up in these 'cracks' of the seam...could debris get into screen this way then?
5. for those with debris already at lower left part of screen: pls do me a favor:
hold phone (sideways with back cover facing the ground) at just below eye level and try to see that left corner that is underneath the painted black surround of the screen..do you see white light when the screen is lit? if you look along the 'inside' edges along the rest of the phone, you will see that there should not be white light emitting out and should have a 'clean' look...there should basically be a solid black border...perhaps, if you guys have this white lighting show through, that could mean a separation of the screen somehow? btw, you do not have to be in a dark room to see this light along the inside edge....it is very noticable as the light comes thru where i think there should be no light. ps: when looking at the phone screen normally (ie from top down), screen looks perfect and this issue doesnt affect actual picture on screen.
my first slide had the light leaks but i didnt think anything of them as i thought they were related to the buttons only...but the issue i had spoke of in #5 above, i had this light coming thru along the whole edge of the bottom of the screen plus creaky top plastic housing.
I have dust under the entire screen of 2 Slides (Espresso), I couldn't notice it indoors but it is glaringly apparent when in the sun. The phones go back tomorrow. I've had my G1 for a year and a half with not a single spec of dust under the screen. I've had 2 MT3G Slides (Espresso) for 6 days and dust is under both screens; these devices are very cheaply made. Phone is lightning fast, screen size is great, physical keyboard is great, UI has some excellent features you can find nowhere else ... too bad I won't be keeping them. Been nice knowing you guys.
Seriously everyone be lucky that this is the only problem that people are having with this phone. You want to talk about shoddy build quality on first run devices, lets not even mention what the original PSP was like. If all that's wrong is that a few people have a bad bezel, then I'd say you made out well with the phone. NJAZ, just exchange them and have the employee test them at the store before you walk out with it, problem solved.

Well I have to send them back as I ordered them online. 2 phones plus about 5 other people I know with these phones have dust blowing in under the defective bezel. It's unacceptable. Like I care about a PSP. What the hell does a PSP have to do with this? You didn't even comment on your phone having the light leaks/gaps or not. What is your point? You think folks should settle for inferior builds of an expensive phone? You can ignore whatever you'd like. I will wait for a better phone.
Wanted to add to my previous post about mine not having the leak... I have the red one.

Protective Plastic

Hi, just got my LGG2. Love it! For anyone who doesn't know there are very small pieces of protective plastic on the sides that are hard to see. If your device feels rough at all anywhere, there's still plastic to peel off.
Also, does anyone know if there is a piece protecting the camera lens? I can't tell but it kinda looks like there's one on there. Thought I'd check before I get too aggressive with it. The GS4 had one and many people don't even know it and it stays on for weeks giving subpar pics!
I'm wondering the same thing about the camera lens. It kinda looks like it does but I would need a razor to get it started ....and that might be asking for trouble.
Sent from my LG-D800 using Tapatalk 2
Exactly my thoughts. Hopefully someone knows for sure. Seems kind of odd if it doesn't since the rest of the device was practically shrink wrapped.
so I tried to see using a needle if there was anything there and didn't seem to be. I also placed a piece of tape on it and pulled it off to see if it lifted at all. Didn't seem like anything there
All I know is the blue ring around the camera is not really blue. There's plastic on the ring. The camera lens itself I can't tell.

I don't. I took it off in the store.
It's a light blue color, but looks darker with the grey behind it. It's the exact size of the bezel around the camera, edge to edge and it is a semi-hard plastic (when i got my nail under it, it shot across the sales floor). I promise you that you will know if it's on there. It's either blue or the exact same burshed aluminum color as the volume rockers (Verizon).
Is this the protect piece that's over the camera and can be removed? I been trying to remove it and I can't.

What???
I think you got something else going on over there. It took me all of two seconds to pop it off with a fingernail. It's not stuck on there hard. So if you're applying any force to it, then you're messing with the bezel not the plastic.
I really suggest you swing by a store and check their display model. It almost certainly has the plastic off by now and you can compare in person.
Good luck

I've had that issue with every clear case I've owned across multiple devices. It's never as bad as your shots though, I usually get a glow in the left corner of my pics.
Just get the i-Blason clear case instead. I'm really liking this case. Has a big cutout for camera and flash and other openings. Flash pics come out fine. I'm going to post some pictures of mine sometime today in the accessories thread area.

A roamer, but made an account before more people decided to cut their case.
Theres a really simple fix to this... the issue here is that because the case is clear, the light bleed through the case and affect the camera when taking pictures. To fix this all you need is a sharpie or any black marker... just Ink up the insides. The black ink will prevent the light from bleeding through the case, and withe the phone behind it, you'd barely notice the ink.
i mean, having a dark ring around your LED is better than cutting it right?, you can always in the other side to balance it out.
Grab a Spigen case. It fits and feels fantastic. No problems with the camera.
Ringke does have a 1 year warranty. It might only be the clear one that is reflecting back. I am sure they will swap out for another color, correct the mold and send you a Revision for free, or give you your money back.

Yep, I had the same case on my G3, and it had the same issue. Sucks to see they didn't learn from their last mistake.
I've just checked this and yes I've got the same problem with flash. I've got the leather back. All in all I'm not impressed with the case since day 1 anyway, always looked cheap to me.
I have the clear case with a plastic back and do not have this issue. Not even in pitch black with the flash on.

[Read First] Camera Lens Scratches: What color is your G6?

Some of us are thinking our Ice Platinum models are less susceptible to scratches but it is highly anecdotal, so I started this thread to see if we could put this theory to the test...
Please answer the poll above... (Just added) OR...
If you have time, please answer the following:
1) Put a flashlight to your camera lens (the brighter the better). Check how scratched up your lens is.. tell us how many scratches approx... show pictures if you can
2) Tell us if yours is cased and if it was cased from Day 1
3) Tell us the color of your G6...
4) (Edit) When you looked for scratches, how did you check for them? For example, with a high powered flash light, a cell phone torch, etc...
Some scratches may be only seen only with a brighter lamp, so try to use the brightest option(s) you have.
1) Many fine scratches on the camera. Btw the rest of the back of the phone isn't scratched. The picture may look like that, but those are just fingerprints I believe.
2) Mine has been cased from Day 1 (from Minute 1 actually )
3) Phone is black

This is totally bizarre. How can yours look like that, but mine looks pristine? I haven't babied mine or anything and even tried to scratch part of it with a key just to see what the deal was--no scratch. I honestly don't know what to make of this thread, as it is so different from my own experience with the phone. I can't deny that several people here have scratched cameras, but as I've written on another thread, people had similar complaints about their Note 7s scratching like crazy, but mine was perfectly fine. Hopefully you can polish that out!
BTW, I'm not trying to be a jerk or defend the phone. I just saw your pic and was truly amazed at the condition of your camera! Oh, and I have the silver one.
Yes, really hoping I can polish it out. Don't want to have to return phone, I like it a lot otherwise. Only saving grace is that I knew this might happen when I got the phone because I had seen other threads mentioning this issue.
Won't be receiving the polish for another day or 2 so it will be a few days before I follow up with another picture.

Hey, can you answer the thread's Q's? Also, have you tried a high powered flashlight, etc to look at your phone glass for scratches? The purpose of this thread is to compare each other's damage, but it helps to know the color of your G6 and also what methods you used to protect your phone (if any), etc...

1) Many fine scratches on the camera. Btw the rest of the back of the phone isn't scratched. The picture may look like that, but those are just fingerprints I believe.
2) Mine has been cased from Day 1 (from Minute 1 actually )
3) Phone is black
(Going to try one of the fixes tonight, may post a follow up pic)

When did you receive your phone? Also what case are you using? This looks like it was scraped across a surface multiple times. A lot of the scratches are going the same direction... do you know how you may have gotten the scratches?

I got the phone on April 17 from the Verizon store. I am using a Poetic TPU case, so the camera lens area is not covered separately. Originally I was using an Otterbox Symmetry case and some of the scratches were already happening with that case on it.
I keep my phone in my back pocket most of the time. So the scratches probably came from sliding the phone in and out of my pocket.
But I had a Samsung S4 before this in a similar case before this and used it heavily for 3+ years. Always carried it in my back pocket and didn't have these scratches.

Mine was a preorder. It's black and also scratched.
I have the black and go with and without a case.. No scratches.

How did you check for scratches? Have you tried with a bright flash?

Good God, are you wearing chainmail?
It's strange that some are receiving a high number of scratches and others aren't. I mean the amount of scratches on yours is utterly ridiculous for not even having the phone a few weeks...
I need to post mine up, but I have Ice Plat and I've only found one scratch... and it's so ridiculously tiny I have to chase it with a light. It doesn't "light up" with a flashlight, it's barely visible so even hard to see with a light/lamp.
Actually looking at my S3 which has 2 1/2-3 years of uncased usage and comparing to yours they look close in person. Mine is scoured on the bottom pretty bad because of the phone resting on the camera bum. Yours looks like a poltergeist was trying to scratch it's way through your lens. They're fairly comparable.
The light makes it look like the damage is all over, but it's mainly scuffed to hell on the bottom from the phone resting.
Do you carry yours in your right back pocket? It looks like the scratching favored one side over the other and mostly bottom... I know you say those are fingerprints below the lens, but those are definitely scratches... maybe from the case... maybe they use some special polish on the black to give it a "sheen". The black does seem to be a fingerprint magnet compared to the Ice Plat.

Sorry, I buried the phone color at the end of my post. Ice platinum, Bear motion case unless I'm on my couch at home (very minimal/thin case), and I haven't used a high-powered flashlight to check; if there are minute scratches that can't be seen in normal conditions, I'd rather just not know about them so they don't drive me crazy. I've examined the camera glass at all angles, though, and I don't see any scratches.

I appreciate that.
And it's understandable why you wouldn't want to obsess over it. I have a single extremely thin small scratch on my Ice Plat over one of the lens which I only looked for out of curiosity, but you wouldn't believe the difficulty I have tracking down where it is. It doesn't show very well in any light. If it's something you need to blast with light to even see I don't personally feel it would affect the camera, and it's very different than the scratches we are seeing on the black models. I would expect small inconsequential scratches to show up on any glass at some point though... unless you go case-less then well...
I guess the point of this thread is to figure out, are these scratches just more visible with the Black version or is there actually something specific to the design of the black that makes it more prone to scratches (like extra coating)...
So if you can take a brief look at your Ice Plat with some kind of flash light or lamp, it would be helpful. Black seems to be the predominant color chosen by most here.

BTW I forgot to mention... the little "scuffs" you call fingerprints underneath the camera lens, a lot of other pictures I've seen on reddit, etc seem to share similar placement of the scuffs...
I wonder if ultimately it is caused by a case. Especially if the case has a ridge around the camera, it makes sense when you sit the phone down there would be additional friction around that zone. Also with those scratches going that direction, it reminds me of when I once tried to improperly clean the bottom of a CD with something too rough. It created a million tiny scratches like that are on this photo... I wonder if some batches of the black may have had too much coating on them and so when cleaned, they get scuffed to hell when cleaned with something rougher than a glass cleaning cloth... like maybe a t-shirt? Who knows.

That made me literally lol!
And yes u are right, I carry it in my right back pocket - good deduction.
Also, yes I think those fine marks on the phone back may actually be scratches. Think I was in denial about that .
Can't wait to try to fix this and see what it looks like afterward

I am using a case but did not have it for the first 2 days. That's when the scratches occured. After having a case I don't think they got any worse.

Understood. I checked it out under a flashlight and saw a very fine scratch, but it is so fine, I can't imagine it would show up on the black version either.
no scratches
my platinum phone doesn't have any scratches till now but I'm using a spigen rugged armor case from day one..
