Just make sure you DON'T buy the Hauwei 1Tb SD card... There are a few places advertising these and they are fakes as Hauwei don't make SD cards..... You will loose money and your data...

Wondering, just out of curiosity, what would be the reason for using a 1TB microSD in the phone.
We know that SD cards do fail sometimes and that is my biggest argument against spending $440(10/26/19) on that card and possibly losing at once an enormous amount of accumulated files.
Sandisk 1TB Extreme microSD......................................$440
Sandisk 512GB...........................$147....................x2 = $294(1TB)
Sandisk 256GB...........................$50.5...................x4 = $202(1TB)
Sandisk 128GB...........................$24......................x8 = $192(1TB)
The benefits of getting smaller SD cards: over 50% savings and less pain in the neck if the card goes bad.
I think the same, although it is good to feel that you will not run out of space, the 512gb and 1tb are quite expensive, this device already has a generous built in storage capacity, for peace of mind I got a 128gb card, mainly for music, apk files, some downloads, wallpapers, etc.
apps and important things go directly to the device storage, which in turn from time to time go to a HDD and cloud storage
The trouble with the smaller cards is they aren't hot swappable and also you need to eject the sim as well as the sd card to swap.
I personally don't carry a sim eject tool around with me as they are so easy to lose...
The point of having the sd card over just the internal storage is if Android, like most OSes, decides to break and needs a factory reset you can loose all your data/pictures/videos/songs.
Cloud storage is an option but I do know people who WILL NOT use the cloud to store these things and even if you do, it is a hassle to retrieve, especially if your plan is light on the data....
The larger sd cards are convenient, and lets be honest, that's why we have mobile phones... No need to find a public phone and have your conversation eavesdropped, and the time spent to find the phone box and wait to use.
Unfortunately, convenience costs $$$....
I actually have both: a decent sized microSD(256GB), and a 256GB flash drive(that I connect via usbC to usbC 8" extension).
Im lucky enough to have a microcenter in my area, and their 256GB cards are cheap(34 dollars normally, and even cheaper when on sale), and reliable. So, you don't have to spend a ton, unless you simply want to. And I like the external extension simply because it allowed me take transfer large files on a moment's notice, to and from my phone and pc..
I don't care for cloud storage, and never really have, since they always start you worth one amount, and change it up on you(shrink iit) over time.. That, and I just don't trust it..

As a matter of fact, they do; it's called nano SD, & not compatible with microsd.

Thankfully there is OTG, not “swappable” but it makes the phone files easily transferable, that small pocket-size portable 2TB SSD costs about $80 or you can use a microSD dongle for the same purpose, I know it's a personal preference but the 1TB micro SD seem just too much $$$...like, half what the phone is worth itself and it's always good to have less expensive options.

I agree, the more options for storage the better... Hopefully Samsung, in their infinite wisdom, don't see fit to remove the SD storage off their future range of phones like they did with the Note 10 and the Fold...
Terrible decision...
I'm saying this as I restore stuff from my SD Card and online storage after a factory reset... It's such a pain my whole network goes so slow while downloading the Gigabytes of data I need to restore....

i just googled it, the one I have is Seagate Plus Slim. Bought it about 3 years ago for ~$100 and I can see now they go for ~$70(silver, the black one is even less)

To avoid incompatibility with Samsung the drive must be formatted to exFat(stock will be NTFS most likely)

Thanks for your reply brother, you mentioned an OTG usb that was not swappable, I was specifically hoping to find something like that in regards to connecting it to my smartphone and like a USB key unplugging it, I misread your post LOL I have external ssds I was hoping that there was an actual OTG USB key that was two terabytes LOL my apologies for my error of understanding lol

I always have a sim ejection tool with me.. My sim ejection tool is on my Car/House keyring! You will never lose it, unless you lose your car keys witch is highly unlikely!

Might need to reformat exFat, Try and see if NTFS registers but I've had limited success with that usually ending up having to run 3rd party apps to use NTFS formatted drives...

So wmpoweruser has a post about this microSD to SD adaptor that will allow you to use up to a 32GB SD card on your Raphael!
Pretty sure it will work on any other device that supports SDHC.

Now if someone wanted to make themselves rich they could design a back cover for various phones with the SD adapter made into it and market it.With the SD card adapter and ribbon going on the inside. If all we wanted to do was make calls and a couple of calender entries, we could have all stuck with a crappy moto or nokia. This phone is my primary music and video player also, not to mention GPS...all of which take up good amounts of space. That said, I'm not going to start cutting the back cover of my phone apart just yet since the 16gb cards are dropping in price already.
Sooooo.....the Fuze is able to handle a 16Gig MicroSD card?....why do the infos on it say only 8?
How do you suppose HTC could certify the device compatible with memory that has not been released? This is quite common, as the tech advances the capacity increases, compatibilty continues until the format changes. Future microSDHC will continue to work until something changes in the form factor or standard.

FWIW, my Fuze is using the 16gb card okay. Finally, got lots of storage for the nonphone stuff
Considering that a 32 gig sd card can be had for 125 bucks I may buy the adapter and use my extended battery back with the stock battery. This would let me put it all inside the phone and not have to do the hack like the page OP linked to. A small pice of foam would hold the stock battery in the cover fine. 16 gig sd cards are 27 bucks, beats the price on a micro sd anyday. I wonder if anyone carrys the adapter cheaper then this one place since its almost 100 bucks.

For some reason (unknown) I was under the impression that 32g was the max SD card the Transformer could use.
I saw in the purchasing thread that someone was buying a 128g SD and then I couldn't remember where it was I came up with the 32g limit on SD cards.
So.... Is it a combination of on board and SD? Does it have a Max?
Can someone break this down for me?

You sound like you are confusing microsd cards (fingernail sized) with sd cards (thumb to first knuckle sized). The max for the onboard microsd card slot is 32gb sdhc and the sd card reader on the dock should support up to 2tb sdxc cards (when they become available).

Yeah, the SD cards that support those sizes are SDXC cards and the Transformer is supposed to support them. It's amazing how big those cards are getting!

SDXC not SD. They're visually the same size but the technology is radically different. The only ones I've seen out so far are 128gb ones. But yeah when 2tb ones are out they'll cost a fortune. Will be cool for the future though.

Yeah when I first saw a picture of the 2tb microsdxc's I was thinking... if only I bought a load of those I could build a micro raid server. Then I woke up ... reality set in, and realised it would cost a ridiculous amount of cash. This was a year ago, it's taken a ridiculously long time for them to start churning out a finished product for public consumption. At least in a few years our tablets can be used as media storage centres with one large card plugged into the dock.
I looked on the Asus website and the TF manual did not say anything about supporting SDXC, only SDHC and below

Not exactly sure what you are asking here. The tablet itself only supports microSD, the dock is where you can use a SDHC card.

That's one for the website/magazines to answer, that's why they're here isn't it all website magazines do these days is report on a review or point to link by someone else.

I guess you are right. It's the snowball effect... If a local store had an SDXC card I'd be tempted to walk in with the TF and just ask if I could try it. But I can't seem to find one at all.

I don't know the limits on the USB ports, but I have 32gig micro SD, 32gigs SD in the dock, plus a 16gig USB thumb drive in one USB and a 500gig 2.5" HDD in the other. It mounts all drives and works fine.

Just for the sake of clarification, what speed rating and brand of micro sd are you using in your TF? I'm looking for one myself but thought 16gb would have been as big as I could safely go.
I just got my second 32GB TF (first one stopped responding to touch, even after hard reset) and this one has dust under the screen and light bleed...(I was a naysayer..but the problems are REAL and not just some over exaggeration).
Anyway...I'm going to return the 32GB to BHPhoto...and managed to order a 16GB from Amazon today.
I still have some time to cancel and was debating...is the 16GB the right call? I've had the 32GB until now (since it was easier to get) and it was kind of nice knowing I had that space if I ever needed it...but do I NEED it? I realize the 16GB is expandable due to MicroSD, but onboard is always better.
How do you guys feel about the storage space?
I honestly think 16gb is a better choice as you're very unlikely to install so many apps to eat up that much space.. and you can the $100 ultra to get a decent 32gb micro sd card!

That's not true.
If you ever want to move files from device to device all you have to do is pop out the card on one device and into another.
I would hate to wait for 16GB worth of data to be moved through USB.
The biggest files are media files so if you plan on keeping a lot of movies on your tablet at one time, then the bigger storage is probably best.
Though, the way we are headed, everything will be streamed/downloaded through cloud anyway.

Exactly my way of thinking as well. Go for the lower end and make it even BETTER than the higher ended one by getting a 32GB CLASS 6 MSD Card.

I personally bought the 16 GB because the 32 GB was sold out @ BB. I figured that I could always expand my memory via micro SD.
to me it doesn't make a ton of sense to add more onboard memory when expansion is possible, cheaper and more convenient
16GB unless you really have tons of music/movies that you want to carry with you all the time. I already have a 32gb iPhone4 so I have no reason to store my music on the tablet. 16GB more than enough.
I personally went for the 32. Unlike a phone, the microSD and SD cards are accessible. I plan to use those like floppy drives of today. It's much faster to copy media directly to the cards from a computer and stick them into the pad than to try to sync or copy them via the pad. At one point, I was thinking that I can just upgrade. However, there will always be some apps that cannot be moved to the microSD.
Also, Amazon currently has the 32 for $499 and 16 for $449. $50 difference for onboard 16 is a no brainer.
I just bought a 16gb with the same mentality as some of the previous replies. I went with the cheaper alternative knowing that I could easily upgrade the storage with a Micro SD card if I started running out of space.

Does not follow that it is better. 48 may be more then 32 but it is less then 64. You don't think that people that buy the 32 gb model are then going to say "Aw I don't need a 32 gb Micro SD card, I have more then enough internal already". No they are going to say "I wish they had 64gb Micro SD card I can put in this thing".

Given Google music, and rentable movies that either stream or delete themselves after you watch them, I think Steve Jobs is on the right track. I have WiFi 95% of the places I go. 100% of the time on work days. With the Google music beta I have no music ON my tablet, but access to my entire collection with a network connection. The 16gb tablet has room for several movies, but once netflix and android market movies are fully functional I don't see the point of even bothering to rip a DVD into a format that will play. My conclusion? 16gb saved me $50 or more over the 32gb version. That pays for netflix for 6 months or so.
Got the 16gb, and got a 32GB microsd at 90$ (patriot 32gb class 10) looks great
If you really (x10) need memory, go for the 32GB model, otherwise, the 16GB model will do just fine.

Problem with going low and using cards is it's a pain to maintain a desktop like atmosphere if I have some on board and some on a card and swap cards for something else and need access to what was on the other card. I have a mydocs folder under mysugarsync folder and sync it with my home computer. Considering a majority of my files are media/Office based, and mt TF replaced my laptop, I have a more complete setup without having to swap cards. I also had a bunch of gift cards and paid about $300 for the 32gb after returning the 16gb one so it wasn't a tough choice. I like card access, but swapping cards more often is not really my idea of efficient. Plus the slots are always open for use. Still wish the tablet had full size SD. Hate the trend towards micro on devices that have no justification for it. Considering the TF is wider than any other 10.1 with nothing else really under the hood in comparison, a full size SD should have been a no brainer.

So we got official confirmation there will be a AWS 1700 version of the SGS3
however, no one ever reported when we'll ever see the 64GB version.
16GB is like nothing now in days, yet that's the version that most phone carriers are carrying as it's the cheapest one to get.
Since they are opening Samsung retail stores here in Canada shortly, I'm really looking to purchasing a SGS3 directly from Samsung with 64GB and for AWS 1700, or whatever the biggest size they can make for the AWS band.
like Verizion were the only ones that carried the 32GB version of the Galaxy Nexus
agree, now with the quadcore, 4.8 inch display i'm planning on lots of music (maybe even .flac songs) and TV shows that i can't watch at home because i don't have time, a great alternative.
looking also for the 64GB version.

You're given an sdcard slot, use it, no need to pay a premium for a more memory built in when the memory card costs a fraction of the price.
I'd rather make use of the SD card slot, in case I ever need to transfer between devices
Doesn't the expandable micro sd slot support much faster media? I'm gonna slam a 64gb card in there and be done with it. There's no way I'm going to fill 80 gb...

Will the speed of sd make much of a difference though day to day? You could use the 16GB for your system and apps then use sd for data storage e.g. audio and video. That's what I plan to do, I already have a 64gb sd so there's no point in spending the extra cash on the phone.
I also want the 64gb model. Fed up fannying about with slow external medias and seperate partitions.

I dunno about you guys,but my Samsung 32gb class 10 micro-sd which I use with my GS2(~45gb total ) is faster than just fast enough.And write speeds are in general better than the internal storage.So a 64gb one would make do I guess.
I have HTC Sensation (1 GB internal memory + Class 10 Lexar 32 GB SD) and SGS2 (16 GB internal memory)
HTC is much slower than SGS2 because of NAND internal memory, it takes forever to install games that take like 30-40 MB on it, while SGS2 does that pretty quick

Does anyone know how many gigs will be allocated for installation of apps i really don#t care for memory.. You just stick in a 32 or 64gb card and your sorted.. Speed doesn't matter to me as long as i can watch a full length monies on a train or coach ride to meet my gf lol..

i certainly hope they don't do the same crap they did with the Galaxy Nexus to have everything in 1 single partition just to show people the full size of the internal memory as 1 usable chunk, instead of sectioned like all previous build of Galaxy phones.
i certainly DO NOT want to use MTS to transfer my files, that'll be the worst way possible to handle huge movie files (8+ GB sizes), the bigger the file the slower the copy, the easier it breaks and you have to start all over again

It is true there are many things wrong with the pricing for internal storage in tablets, but luckily Samsung tablets have microSD slots and microSD's are not that expensive.

Because there are some things that you cannot store on the external card and unless you're rooted you'll run out of space quite quickly (depending on what you do of course). GPS maps and game content come to mind immediately. I bought the 32GB LTE version so I do not need to root immediately and lose warranty (thanks Samnsung!.....not)

Sure but those aren't universal situations, SOME will need that, but I'd argue the vast majority of people are just storing media and whatnot on their devices. Not too many people are slapping on 25 gigs of games and maps. It's a matter of looking at your needs.

Agreed....but more to the point: Samsung should stop making crap with only 16GB storage when they're planning to use up 9GB or more for the OS and their bloatware AND the real cost of the additional 16GB is next to nothing.
the good thing about win x64 tablets is that they use standard msata drives that are (relatively) easily upgraded and faster than this nand crap. for $100 I could upgrade my 700t to 128gb and have my spare 64gb for backup.

I have a Nvidia Shield that is only 16gb. It does not take but 5 good games to take all of your available storage.

16GB is early obsolescence and the largest apps, games, at up to nearly 2GB each burns up your internal storage fast and SD card, as of now, is not a 100% replacement. Learned quickly from that mistake with 16GB Note II and Nexus 7 2012 but corrected them with 32GB Note 3 and Nexus 7 2013.

In my unrooted Note 10.1 2014, I have the option to move application content to SD card (in application management in the settings). Is there something more a root would give me than this option?

This SD card is not exactly the external SD card. I have Mizuu and it generates about 500mb. It defaults to SD card. But I look storage, it is in internal /storage/sdcard0 (save in android/data), not in /storage/extSdCard.
So my understand is that SD card mentioned in application manager is still in the internal storage, just in a different partition, very confusing.

Yes, with root you can take a folder from /sdcard and actually redirect it to a folder on the external sdcard......assuming FolderMount or similar will work on the new Note 10.1. Mine is not rooted yet so I do not know whether it does.
Brand spankin' new P600-UD (US version, at least that is what it says on the box label). I have run squarely into /mnt/extSdCard and apps like Kindle. They expect physical SDcards to be at /mnt/sdcard and cannot be changed. For at least 12 months and 1 day, I can't afford to trip the warranty flag. Any workaround to access mount or make a shortcut or fool the Kindle app into behaving?

In Sweden the prices for extra storage very high which is not helpful as there already is a high base price:

The fastest 64 Gb microSDXC is the SanDisk Extreme (Plus) which is sold in Sweden for 123.17 USD.
I thought the fastest memory card would give the most benefit but I was wrong since the transfer speeds were much slower than advertised when transferring data to/from the memory card when it is connected to the computer. Can this be due to the MTP protocol?
My advice to you guys is to skip the one I bought and settle for the more cheaper 64Gb alternatives instead.
