Hi,
I have been trying for 2 days to get Bromite webview installed on my 6T running Omega+xXxNoLimits and every method I can find does not work with my set up. Not really a huge issue, but one less piece of google if I can replace it.
So I am wondering if it is part of the rom or the kernel? If it is rom related perhaps I can get the guys at xXx to work on it. If it is kernel I will look for a kernel that has it replaced.
Hope I am posting in the correct forum.
Thanks in advance, JC

That is actually the version I have on my phone.
Still did not answer my question though, at least not in terms that I understand at this particular point of my learning curve.
It does appear to be kinda open source( based on chromium, which is open source ) which is comforting, if google left it open source.
Thanks for the taking the time to respond.
what issue are you facing? you mentioned its in your phone, i assumed its installed. perhaps you mean how to configure system to use it?
go to system settings, search for 'webview' (screenshot #1) and make the necessary changes (screenshot #2).

As mentioned in my op all of the methods I have tried to get Bromite have not worked. Everything listed on their wiki does not work for one reason or another. The Magisk module did not work. Converting to a system app did not work.
My question is not about installing Android webview.
My question is whether webview is part of the rom or part of the kernel.
Again, Thank you for taking the time to view the post and answer.
whether if webview is part of rom depends on how you install gapps or similar, but definitely has nothing to do with kernel.
--- edit ---
not sure if webview comes with gapps.

OK thanks for the Intel.
When I have a chance I will take a look at the code from xXx.NoLimits. I am starting to guess they are replacing chrome webview w Android webview.
If it is still actually open source I will abandon my fight to install Bromite.

To get bromite to work you will need to disable the Chrome web browser or uninstall it. Once you do that and install bromite you will be able to select it.
I don't have Chrome on my phone and haven't since before I even thought about Bromite.
Webview is a function of the ROM. Its a rendering engine and there are normally 2 types on a stock ROM, Chrome or Android System WebView.
If you dont have Chrome installed then you wont see that as an option.
Im not sure how Bromite works or appears in the option list but I am sure that WebView is a ROM function and not Kernel.
Hope that helps and Good Luck!

For those who have an android phone running froyo your probably aware that hulu had blocked their site from android users. Generally in the past there were methods around this which involved installing a modified flash.apk.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=688054
Okay so I went ahead and removed the previously installed flash apk (use root explorer to do it) then I use adb to install it. The next step involved using the debug mode in the browser to make our seem like it is a desktop. Well when I type about:debug in my browser and go into the settings there is no option to change it to desktop. I only see these options:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
So my question is, how the heck do we get hulu working?! When I used skyfire to and switched it to the desktop view, it said I didn't have flash installed. Any ideas?
update:
okay so i found a thread on XDA that seemed to get me a lil further but not where i wanna be.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794512&page=12
this thread suggest that you just install the latest flash.apk and just replace the lib file they give u with the one that comes preinstalled. doing that gets me an error on hulu:
"Unfortunately Hulu is not supported on your platform. We apologize for any inconvenience."
Before, I just got an error saying that they are gonna bring hulu plus to android but thats about it. yes i changed it to desktop and even tried it on skyfire. nothing.
anyone?

Try about:useragent.
Regards,
Dave
Hi dave. thanks i used the wrong cmd to get to the useragent mode. but i got it set to desktop and now its saying flash i need flash player 10.0.32 or higher (tho i have the most up to date one). hmm...what u think?
You can't use the Nexus One hacked apks on the Tab. I posted instructions for hacking the Tab in another thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9494802
don't waste your time, hulu will have it patched in a week....

I don't understand why hulu would block us anyway.

Ok, so I'd had two ICS ROMs on my phone till date\
Quarx's CM9 Nightly for Defy+
Fuzz's CM9 euroskank kang for Defy+
I was able to install Chrome Beta and Stable on both these ROMs, but am unable to render any page in the browser. Here are some screenshots

}
Connectivity to my data network is obviously not a problem since I'm being offered search suggestions and the progress bar is loading.
My build.prop already has the ICS id in it.
I've browsed the forums and people have suggested that this problem is caused by the lack of Hardware Acceleration(HWA).
So can anyone either guide me on how to go about fixing this? Or maybe a suggest a full HWA enabled ROM for me?
Thanks!

Thanks for replying, but stability isn't even the issue here. I've actually never been able to get a [age to render despite having no trouble installing. I've seen other people on custom ROMs using Chrome.
Anyway, is there no ROM out there supporting full HWA?

No.
Chrome doesn't work on any rom.
Regarding hwa, the closest we've got is epsylon3's rom ,where barring few apps like (play store,chrome etc) ,everything else works.
but still its a no go for chrome !
chrome will NEVER work on the defy/defy+. epsylon stated that our froyo/gb 3d driver lacks some opengl extensions chrome (and ics/hwa) would need, and with the locked bootloader we cant implement the ics driver. sorry to be the one bringin the bad news. :/

Hi everyone! I hope I have came to the right place. I recently rooted my Galaxy Note 2 on AT&T that was running 4.3. Had some issues mainly because I forgot to also flash Gapps to my phone. Anyway, before I flashed OMNI ROM to my phone, I was wiping data like I saw you were supposed to do when I wiped the Android OS... I know what you are thinking, n00b. Honestly, I have wanted to root my phone for a while but it seemed complicated. So anyway, it said I had no OS installed. So naturally, I freaked out. Then I thought, woah! I can just flash OMNI ROM now so I can still have a phone! Which I did and Gapps and my phone is working awesome now. Just like Android 4.4.2. However, the only feature missing is the Multi-Window Feature. Is this because I erased the OS before I flash OMNI ROM? I tried downloading multi window support from the Play Sore however it just said that I don't have a file installed or my device isn't supported. Which I know it is because I used to use Multi-Window like it was my job. Any help would be awesome everyone. Thanks and have a wonderful day! (Sorry for the long post)
Try to find an unofficial build for your device that has it. I maintain builds for the HTC One and Samsung Nexus 10 (m7att and manta, respectively) that include it. It's not in unofficial builds yet due to issues/coding in it, but it's decently stable if you can find an unofficial build in your device forum.

I downloaded one that was official and unofficial. Both said they had Multi-Window Support. Do you think I should unroot and go back to Stock ROM and try to re-root but this time not erasing the entire Android OS?

Not at all. The official ones do not have it. If the unofficial one you're trying doesn't have it, but is listed, then ask the person who compiled it.
If the unofficial version has multiwindow but you can't turn it on, then maybe you don't know how to? It's not the same as Crapsungs implementation.
1. Open any apps
2. hold down the home button to get to the recent apps
3. Touch and hold on an application
4. Select add to split view

Thanks everyone for your replies! I saw that Add Split View option before but I didn't know if I was supposed to be able to hold the back button to open up the Multi-Window Sidebar.
Hi 2 everyone,
I have Xiaomi MI2S with MoKee ROM and found out that after every install (does NOT matter if its app, game etc.) this weird app-offer comes out at the bottom of the screen:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
...anyone has the idea whats that and how to get rid of it? Any ideas strongly appreciated!
Sincerely, JayM
Mabye is some launcher or some kind of built-in app store you have.
Yep, already tried to change the launcher (GO Launcher) and also tried to freeze some suspicious apps but still NO luck...
Well it's strange, because I had for a long time Mokee Kit Kat (that seems you have) and I never experienced this sort of problem.
Did you remove useless system apps? Mabye you can post your app list to see if could help.
EDIT: from a quick research those pop-ups are releated to some GO app (GO SMS probably), you need to uninstall it and try something else.

Best advise would be to get rid off all go products a d then go through and remove the left over files. They have long been known for things like this and huge security issues
THX 2 both of U guys - will try it for sure - GREAT HELP!

Hey,
I'm working on a 6P Marshmallow ROM and wanted to know if there is a way you can push out a software update to every device running the ROM?
Example:

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I'm planning on pushing an update for Nougat to current Marshmallow devices, if possible. I'm new to Android development and was just curious.. would I need to have a dedicated server for this?

I know some Developers use something like Pushbullet.
But a build-in notification and update function could be also possible if you implement it in your rom, but i never tried it so i cant say anything about it.
One way could be, watching the source code of other Roms which has implemented this feature, but then you must check if this is legal and the original developer is okay with that.

I actually found a tool called OTA Update Center, and it allows you to notify users of new ROM updates. It's pretty old, but should get the job done.
