LineageOS 15.1 fixes - Nexus 5X General

Hi,
I have been using Nexus 5X (android 8.1) for years now. There is 3rd battery installed for now, but battery life went down since devices original Android update 8.
From the Internet I read somewhere that:
Settings > Location > Scanning > Wifi & Bluetooth Scanning OFF
Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile Network > Automatically Select Network OFF + Select your primary network manually
Settings > Google > Nearby > Turn off
Will improve battery usage and IMHO it did, but still will not last whole day.
Now my questions are for anyone with that experience:
1) Will official LineageOS 15.1 contain AndroidOS security fixes since December 2018? This is last update I was able to install before end of life.
2) Will official LineageOS 15.1 not contain battery draining "features" and will last longer ~1,5 day?

1. Yes, it does contain security fixes. They usually arrive about two weeks after the official release.
2. I've not noticed any problems with battery drain.
Use "OpenGapps" rather than the other suggested Gapps.
Do you intend to root it?
Bear in mind also that LineageOS will not out-of-the-box pass Google's SecurityNet (eg. Android Pay). It is possible to fix that if rooted.
I've been using it for about two weeks and it feels more stable than stock.
Down side: I have lost Wifi Calling. (My network doesn't support VoLTE for the Nexus 5X.)

You could always check the lineageos changelog for the device. Yes, LOS builds do contain the relevant security patches.

Battery drain depends more or less on the user. At this point, LOS is solid enough to not be the key factor for battery drain.
1.5-2 days of battery life is pretty normal for an aged battery. Mine was assembled in november 2016, i bought it in december, so far it holds nicely without having to recharge it mid-day. But I don't get more than 2 days of battery and 3.5 hours of SOT.

Thanks for your feedback. That makes me more confident to try LOS 15.1. Will let you know the results.
PS: Are those nightlys the updates/fixes and you can install from the system update in phone not download manually and install in some (pre)boot environment?
https://download.lineageos.org/bullhead

Official nightlies have an OTA updater. You just download it and press install, it'll install itself.

For LineageOS OTA to work, you do need to have installed a suitable recovery such as a recent release of TWRP. Stock recovery can't do it.

That is a bit disappointment, that you need TWRP for updating and not just Update from System menu. Luckily I followed this guide and LOS installation would have not been possible without TWRP, so I am prepeared for updates.

About battery life - it looks lot better now, although not all apps are installed. Can last whole day now without recharging.

Kernel wakelock and no deep sleep since CM13.0

Hi XDA,
As there ar eno recent thread about 'no deep sleep' (aka on CM13/13.1) I'm opening one here inh ope someone can help me troubleshoot what's wrong...
I've had my OPO for 1.5 yr now, and overall it's doing great. Except since CM13.0, I've been having troubles with deep sleep and therefore my battery time hardly make it through the day.
It all began after the April upgrade, when I decided to encrypt my phone. I did a clean full wipe and installed the zip from TWRP recovery, then proceeded to encrypt the phone... Turns out the boot.img patched by SuperSU is incompatible with the encryption process so I reverted the boot.img ti the original and encrypted my phone, then flashed SuperSU back. Since then, the phone would never enter deep sleep mode, except when data connexion and wifi are disabled.
I've since flashed the latest build (ZNH2KAS1KN) in hope that would solve the problem. The flash was the cleanest I ever took (wipe data, system, dalvik, cache ; reboot to recovery, flash full zip, boot to system and restore all app through the 'play store restore' function, reboot to bootloader, flash TWRP with AtAm fix for CM13 encryption support). Yet, my battery keeps drainign blazing fast and I have no deep sleep at all even with the phone sitting indle on a table for hours. See screenshots.
The only strange thing I see are those 'fd440000.qrypto' kernel wakelocks. Any ideas ? I'm assuming it has something to do with the phone being encrypted, but why would deep sleep be achievable when the phone has no data/wifi ?? It's really puzzling and I can't figure out what to do. I had exactly the same problem on the previous 13.0 release (including the qcrypto wakelock).
edit: the only slight deep sleep period is because my SIM card was not detected for a short period of time (probably bad contacts, I took it out, wiped it a bit and everything was back in order)
Any help appreciated, thanks!
Strange. I haven't had much battery drain issues on Sultan's build. Are you using the official cm13 builds or unofficial builds?

looks like you are having weak or no signal. this is likely to cause this issue!

Only the official builds for CM13/13.1, and with the cleanest install as possible... Never tried Sultan's build, is that a kernel, a full rom...?

Definitely not the cause. This happens every day, everywhere, independently of signal strength (i.e. color of bar in graph). I've confirmed with a friend of mine who also encrypted his phone a while ago and he also never goes to deep sleep.

sultan's rom is cm13 with caf kernel. it is known to be very battery friendly.
Here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/one...m-kernel-unofficial-cyanogenmod-13-0-t3242700
and here I was hoping not to have to full wipe/reflash/restore again.... I've also posted on CM jira in hope of a comment on whether there is a known bug on ecnrypted devices or not. If nothig comes from there I'll try sultan's rom...
Sultan's builds are optimized for battery on the one plus one. They tend to be better than official cm13 builds, most of the time.
Another option is downloading an app called nap time on the play store, which forces your phone to go into deep sleep the moment the screen shuts off.

Steve included some kernel commits recently that address the crypto wakelock. They should be fixed on current nightlies.
I know it fixes it as I had that fd000.crypto kernel wakelock until very recently and I'm encrypted.
I have the same issue on Sultan's Rom. First 20 days battery life was awesome and now all the time phone is awake. I am reflashing sulatn build again
Thanks for this info, this is going in the same direction I observed and somewhat reassuring. Are you talking about CM nightlies then ?
edit: that was inteded for @tiny4579

By any chance, would you happen to have SuoerSU as root binary/manager? I recall it patches boot.img which prevented encryption from being run in the first place (to encrypt, I had to reflash the stock boot.img, encrypt, then reflash SuoerSU). I'm wondering if the altered boot.img couldn't be part of the problem.

Some heads up: there was indeed a wakelock issue that has been fixed by a commit on the 4th of June.
See associated bug on JIRA: https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/BACON-4987 (and appreciate how it's easier to blame the user than to try to replicate a bug). Hopefully we'll have a 'future OTA' before the end of the year...
I still have this wakelocks issues right now...

A previous downgrade attempt has scarred me from trying to downgrade again

Back in December while i was still on 6.0.1 but on the latest monthly update at the time, I have known for awhile that there was a high android system battery drain after the february 2016 monthly update so I wanted to downgrade back to February. But when I was in the process of downgrading, I got an error on odin and it failed. After I restarted my phone I got a message saying "an error has occurred while updating the device software. Use emergency recovery function in the smart switch pc software" so at that time i was freaking out a bit and I went searching around and people said around may of 2016 samsung updated the bootloader so you couldn't downgrade to an earlier month that had the older bootloader.
I just want to know if samsung has updated their bootloader since 7.0 being on the latest bootloader. I'm currently on August security patch and want to go back to March.
I was using, if I'm not mistaken, the Android 7.0 July patch and I wanted to do an experiment. So, I downloaded version 6.0.1 and flashed using Odin.
Everything went through smoothly!
Just a curiosity, why do you want to go back to March? There are no benefits rolling back to an older patch, unless you want to test something.
Also, people say everywhere that their batteries are X with Y update and then, with Z, it got worse (or better). It actually depends on your usage, what apps you have installed, how you use your phone, etc etc etc.
Ah! My S7 Edge is the Exynos version.

I've had a serious kernel battery drain and i've tried whatever I could to fix it. It just started out of nowhere and I can't think of any apps that would cause it to continue and so my battery life has been horrible and it doesn't even go into doze half of the time and I also has forcedoze enabled.
If you were able to go back to 6.0.1 without having an error in odin, then what did i do wrong? I put all the right files in the right place.

What model is your phone? What country?
Battery drain, doze not starting... it's normally caused by apps.
Post a screenshot from Settings -> Device Maintenance -> Battery -> Battery Usage

What I would suggest is to start from scratch, without restoring any backup.
If you want, you can download the current and older versions from here: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s7-edge/SM-G935W8/
I'm also on August security patch and I consistently get 7h+ SOT but I disable preloaded apps, (especially Facebook), use the resolution in HD and a black theme to get the benefits of the AMOLED screen.
When using Odin, make sure you put everything on the right place and use CSC file instead of HOME_CSC. It will delete all your data!

I also have apps disabled or at least HAD them disabled..i've might have enabled them except the ones i know for sure i dont need like facebook, chrome and those microsoft apps...you get the idea. I use HD resolution and keep it on black or dark theme. I use substratum and have whatever apps are supported themed to black.
Also why not home_csc if im starting from scratch?

HOME_CSC will not wipe /data, CSC will. I may be crazy, but I erase things the maximum I can, so: I factory reset before updating to a new version, I use the CSC file to flash via Odin and I factory reset after I've updated. Then I log in to my Google account and start installing my apps from Play Store.
Of course I don't do it monthly (because security patches make no drastic changes). I only do it when there's a huge update (like Android 6.0 to 7.0) or when I feel the phone becomes sluggish (because I've installed and uninstalled lots of apps, for example).
When I had my Nexus 6, I also used fastboot commands and TWRP to garantee it's 100% clean (yep, you can now shout * crazy dudeeee *)

[Q] LineageOS 14.1 high mobile data consumption with present WiFi by System Apps

LG G2 D802 (INT) flashed from 5.0.2 Lollipop Stock to LOS 7.1.2 20180129 by TWRP 3.2.1, updated to LOS 7.1.2 20180205
I have a high consumption of mobile datas shown as "Android OS" in the overview after flashing to LOS, around 500... 600 MB throughout the day. Looks like the consumption is higher when device is connected to WiFi but still using mobile datas. Update to LOS 7.1.2 20180205 didn't change anything. The slider button "disable all mobile data access" (for the System apps) has no effect, after leaving the settings screen and go back, the slider button is off again (bug or feature?).
I really like LOS 7.1 but with this heavy bug it is unfortunately unusable. Somebody any ideas how to solve or the same problem?
Greetz, Chris

Urgent! Battery drain with NPJS25.93-14-15

Community of xda I need your help in the following:
I recently made a change and received a g4 plus motorcycle, originally had the patch on November 1 or September, one of those two
I have downloaded the complete firmware that included the patch NPJS25.93-14-15
1. I have the bootloader unlocked
2. I have ElementalX + root + xposed + greenify to hibernate my applications
Where does my post come from? simply that I am noticing that my battery is draining until when I have the screen off since I use whatsapp web
What do you recommend me to do?
Is there a profile for elementax that solves the problem ???
Absolutely no battery drain here with NPJS25.93-14-15 and ElementalX kernel. Must be on of your third party apps.
How I can recalibrate battery in system 50% in recovery 11%!?

This is my battery history, without root, without xposed, only full stock
pure screen installed by installing the app and just installed the stock software last with the February 2018 patch
some help?
Could it be my battery problem?
better do a factory reset to fix your issue...
I can see you have used the Google voice typing ???
Absolutely no battery drain here using latest stock rom with EX Kernel.
My Moto G4, keeps restarting very often after installing this latest patch.
Can someone help me to get this resolved (or) how can i remove this patch?
This just keeps me frustrating as every now and then, even when i'm on a call with someone (or) whatever i keep doing with my phone - it restarts
Thanks

Best ROM passing safetyNet and bank apps checks

Hi,
I'm looking for the best ROM (preferably based on 9 or 10) that can run bank applications and has the latest security updates with the least amount of bugs.
Here are the ones I tried so far:
- AICP 10 - many random reboots
- LineageOS 17 - hangs on lockscreen and would have to manually reboot - also excessive heat (no major heat issues on the 15.1 version)
- LineageOS 15 - currently on unofficial version, could not pass safetyNet except through Magisk to change fingerprint and hide (i even tried security date change), but still, some apps still detect jailbreak.
What ROM would you suggest?
Thanks
