I have a Mi 9T and have contracts with UK providers for both SIM 1 and SIM 2. I want to allow data roaming on SIM 1 but to block data roaming - or all data - on SIM 2. I want SIM 2 to remain active for calls and SMS.
In "SIM cards and mobile networks" under "Default settings" Internet is set to SIM 1 but when I was in Switzerland and France last week, I got SMS messages from the SIM 2 service provider about the cost of data each time I entered a country.
As a result, I am not convinced my current settings are completely preventing data usage on SIM 2 when I am roaming. I'd be grateful to anyone who can tell me the correct settings to achieve what I want.
My Mi 9T was at MIUI 10 (Global 10.3.12 Stable) when I was travelling. Since returning to UK I have upgraded to MIUI 10 (Global 10.3.15 Stable) in the hope some helpful new settings might appear, but they did not.
"Dual 4G" was set On which may have been the problem but I don't know how to test now I am back in UK. I am making a trip to Asia in a week and I need to be confident there will be no data usage on SIM 2 before I arrive!
Thanks, Evan

I'm seriously thinking about picking up this phone (I asked a question related to Android for Work a few days ago), but want to make sure I know what I'm getting. I have a question regarding receiving MMS on whichever SIM is not set to default for LTE. I believe I understand how data works regarding the dual sim setup on the phone -- both sims have the ability to connect to LTE, but only one sim can connect at time. The non-LTE set sim will only connect to 2g/3g for voice/text (no data even if connected to 3G, correct?).
My question is very specific: If I have LTE set to, say, sim 1, what happens if someone sends a MMS based group message to me on sim 2? I figure one of 3 things happens:
1. The MMS is downloaded and received automatically (whether through 2G/3G on SIM 2, or that somehow SIM 2 switches to LTE in the background so that it can download the MMS)
2. The MMS is not downloaded, but SIM 2 receives a sms notification that an MMS is ready for download (which would be done by either just tapping download to make the phone switch LTE to SIM 2 in the background, or by manually switching the LTE to SIM 2, then tapping download)
3. There is no indication on the phone that an MMS has been sent to SIM 2, and I either miss it completely, or only see it if I just happen to switch LTE to SIM 2 at some later date (before the expiration date, anyway).
Can anyone help to clarify this for me? I can live with options 1 or 2, but 3 would be difficult to live with. SIM 2 would be for work, and MMS-based group messages are sent out when urgent issues come up (work in IT, and I am on call often).
Thanks!
I got an answer elsewhere so I figured I put it here:
"I wish there was a better way they could've done this. When you get a mms on the "non data" SIM- it will give you a notification if you want to download it. When you eventually agree- it temporarily changes to that SIM's data to fetch.
Both SIMs have LTE so that's not a problem. Group texts are kind of a nightmare when it comes to the non data SIM."

Hi Guys !
I have a Samsung S7 edge duos, for which i want to use two SIM cards - SIM 1 is my home SIM, and SIM 2 is a Global roaming SIM with data and Voice.
My question is whether its possible to set my phone in such a way that when I go on roaming i want my SIM 1 to deactivate data services and SIM 2 data services to kick in, since this a global SIM.
Is there an App for that or is there some kind of settings for the same.
Help in this regard would be highly appreciated.
Thanks
John
Not sure if you can do this, maybe with a task scheduler? Best choice is just to manually set your SIM2 to be the main SIM.
The only thing that might work is to call transfer sim 1 to sim two so that any calls received will ring on sim 2 which you can select as the active.
You can not cross connect the apns since they are linked to different sim cards.
Did you try all the dual sim manager apps? they say they do just that!!!
Hey there
I have the following situation and basically this is the reason why I've bought a dual SIM
SIM 1 - Vodafone Italy
SIM 2 - Yallo Switzerland
SIM 1 is used ONLY for receiving phone calls and I want to have it 24/7
SIM 2 is more a working SIM, I am using it for phone and internet
Evening I want to switch off SIM 2, don't want to be bothered with calls nor I care for internet.
First problem when I try to "disable" SIM 2 I got the message that the SIM is set as primary (whatever it means) so I cannot disable it (why ????????????)
Trying to findo out what is the reason I have discovered that if I select data on SIM 1, then I can switch off SIM 2 (whaaaaat ?????)
Seems that I am not free to do it
The other thing is ... to "disable" the SIM, I have to go to Settings | SIM and mobile network click on SIM 2 and disable
This is not what you want to do just before going to sleep, I expected something very easy to switch off SIM 1 or 2 based on needs
How can I solve the problem ?
Cheers
Steve
I have a dual SIM device with 2 SIMs from different countries. Only one of the SIMs has a good data roaming plan. I don't see an option to enable data roaming for just one of the SIMs, disabling the other. My older oneplus phone has a data roaming option for each SIM which was very convenient for a frequent traveler as myself. Any advice?
I have the latest firmware update, and I'm using it with 2 SIMs; Sim #1 is a Google-Fi on roaming, and Sim #2 is the local default sim. I choose SIM 2 to be the default for everything (calls, SMSs, and data). However, I kept seeing the mobile for some reason switches the data to SIM 1, however, I disabled data roaming, and surprisingly, the mobile still randomly changes to SIM 1 (Google Fi) and also consume data!!
