Servicing a Galaxy S7 SM-G930V. Front screen not cracked, but black. Back cover cracked many places, but may have been caused a previous amateurish attempt to remove. No sim card since new phone activated by owner, no SD card used, no cloud backup (think they learned!). Valuable vids of a national level competition on device.
Tried all button combinations to reset, nothing worked.
Phone recognized as a device on usb data-power cable on Windows 7 computer & device info found. On PC- "no files found" with any 3rd party (trial) software. Battery was unplugged, removed, replaced & components reassembled. No change, but all symptoms listed below came back.
Originally thought dealing with Black screen of death, but symptoms sound related to system being stuck on Accessibility Features, maybe with that "dark Screen" option under Accessibility Features? (manual p178) Don't want to do screen replacement before opinions from this group.
Power, vol up & down keys cause the Voice Assistant to announce.:
POWER: pressed once: "screen turned on" announced.
& bottom Back & Recent buttons will illuminate briefly.
Pressed again: "screen turned off" announced
When screen turned on, other keys below will announce:
VOL UP: beep, then "screen tone volume 80%, volume controls hidden"
VOL DOWN once: beep then "screen tone volume 80%, volume controls hidden"
VOL DOWN twice rapidly: peep then "screen tone volume 75%, volume controls hidden" Each time vol down pressed twice rapidly, volume will be 5% less
BACK button at bottom left of screen, announces "back key"
RECENT button bottom right of screen, announces "recent key"
"screen turned off" will automatically announce after 2 minutes of inactivity & power button must be pressed again for announcements above.
HOME key unresponsive at all times if pressed once rapidly, pressed & held momentarily, or multiple presses.
Can't find any forums/threads that address this, but newbie! Any help appreciated. Thanks!
D id you try shutting it down and then pressing power , volume up, and home buttons simultaneously?
Yes, tried all button combinations I could find with no change

I am trying to find a way to bisable the call and end button (green and red) from powering on the device. its very annoying because when i put it in my pocket, the buttons are so easily pressed.
on the settings page it says "lock all buttons besides power buttons" but unfortunately that is not the case on my qtek 9100.
The call/ end buttons definitely do not wake up my device. Are you sure you are turning it off just by tapping the power button at the top right?
Make sure you do have "lock all buttons besides power buttons" selected and not the "lock all buttons only if device is locked" setting selected.
i have noticed that this happens only occasionally. now it doesnt wake it up anymore but an hour ago it did. I think its a bug. "lock all buttons besides power button" was checked.
i also have another bug where i get a call and i try to answer it but i dont hear anyone except they hear me. the sound on my end is completly muted.
I used to have it so that if I held down the red (hang up) button, and picked no choices from the menu that comes up (lock, turn off screen, sleep, etc.), it would automatically become locked needing me to slide the slider next time I turned it on before it would take keyboard commands. I soft-reset it, and now that doesn't happen anymore - on wakeup, it goes right to the Today screen. I don't like it because it comes on in my pocket sometimes. I tried
HKCU\ControlPanel\KeyBd\Devicelockwhensuspended = 1
HKCU\ControlPanel\BackLight\AutoDeviceLockEnable = 1
but still no good. When I hold down the red button, it gives me a choice of Power Off, Turn Screen Off, Lock Device, and Set vibrate. If I do nothing, the screen goes off (which is where it used to be locked), but now when I hit the green button to wake it up, I see this same menu again - not the locked slider. When it goes to sleep on its own, it doesn't lock either - straight to Today screen when a button is pressed. What's going on?!?
My next attempt was to assign the "hold down red button" to \Windows\DeviceLock.exe but I can't figure out how to assign "hold red button" - what's the best way to do that?
thanks!!
Mike
I was playing a game on my Vibrant on my break earlier today and upon exiting it my screen locked up. Rather than wait for it, I pressed the power button to turn the screen off and went back to work.
A little later I brought it out to check the time and saw that the screen was on am pretty sure I saw that it said "Scanning media" at the top and assumed it had reset itself. A little bit after that I checked my phone again and saw the NoLed icon for new emails. I pressed the power button to turn on the screen and then tried to swipe it to unlock it but nothing happened.
That's pretty much where I am now. The volume and power buttons work but the screen is unresponsive (I can bring up the "Phone Options" screen but can't select any of the options) and none of the "soft" buttons on the bottom work either. Is my only option to do a hard reset?
And if it helps, this is a completely stock phone. Never been rooted.
I would just pull the battery.
I remember having something like that with NoLED, tr pressing the power button to wake it up and press the home key (unless you have it disabled in NoLED prefs) to get to the lock screen and unlock it.
Press and hold the power button until the phone reboots. That should take care of it.

Click to collapse
Thanks! That did the trick. Could have sworn I tried that already but apparently I didn't hold it down long enough.
My A3 doesn't "wake up" from stand-by.
If I reset it keeping pressed power up button, it correctly reboots, I can see all boot process and it correctly reachs the starting home page.
If I keep touching screen, open apps, navigate from various menu all works fine. But when I leave it without pressing any button/screen for 10/15 sec (display power off delay) the screen correctly goes black, but there's no way to wake up it again although it seems working. The A3 "under" works because plugging to AC Adapter beeps the sound of charging in progress, PC (Kies or SmartSwitch) detect it correctly; only the screen remains black.
I already tried to wipe and even reflashed last firware with Odin but with no luck.
Is there anything else that I can try (except send it to repair center...)?
Thanks in adv
JYD
P.S. When I call It from another phone, it rings but the LCD remains black and doesn't respond clicking vol +, vol - and home buttons
P.S. 2 Thinks become "funny": Home button, vol + & vol - don't work at all. Power button powers off display, but long pressing it, doesn't pop up power off/reboot menu. Softkeys don't work.
Sounds like SoD. Try installing the app "Wake Lock" and choose the PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK option.
A couple of days ago my power button stopped working. I couldn't power the phone on or off, but the fingerprint reader still worked. Today I realized that a press of the power button still turns the display on and off. (This happens without engaging the fingerprint reader.)
I've already done a factory reset that made no difference but I thought I'd toggle the Cerberus "Block Power Button" setting to see what happens.
The button now works and the power off menu comes up when I hold the button down.
The button still will not power the phone on, but this is sure looking like a software problem.
Any Android wizards out there have any suggestions?
