Hi, I have Samsung Dex on Windows 10 working well.
With the standalone Dex Dock, you can change the resolution to support 4k monitors
Is this supported in the Windows 10 app, as I cannot see a way to change the res like you would when using the dock.
TIA
The Dex App uses the Main Screen resolution on your PC for Resolution.
There isn't an option to lower this yet.
4k Dex
Hi there. Can you please tell me if you have first-hand experience running Dex at 4k? And if so, which dock did you use? Thanks!

I got an HDMI cable for my tablet, and I hooked it up to my monitor. My monitor does 1080p, but I can't seem to get the tablet to change from its native resolution.
It's alright as-is, but it looks poor, as it's all stretched(and hides the menu bar at the bottom), does anyone know how to change the res on it when HDMI is connected? I'm not too worried about losing the display on the unit, I'd just start up a movie and plug it in and watch.
Currently we are limited to 720p output, 1080p is promised in a futute update (June I believe).
Ah, okay.
Is there any way to change the resolution, though? I'd like it to run at the tablets native resolution(and not chop off the menu bar) if possible. Hard to read notifications when you get an e-mail or something when it's not there.

No, you'd need a 16:10 monitor to do that. Your monitor is 16:9, while your tablet is 16:10

I've got another screen that's 1680x1050 natively, does the same thing still.
My other complaint is that video output through HDMI is quite choppy and not quite sure what the cause is. My Atrix plays video through HDMI flawlessly. Any reasons as to why that may be?
I've got a similar issue with my 32" lg and my asus transformer, is there an app to "resize" the hdmi output ?
can't understand why but while handling hdmi connection my LG TV won't let me resize the image
Anyone find a solution? I just connected mine to my TV and its cutting off the edges and seems like it has a slight lag.
hdmi out perfect
I have used the HDMI out several times to both our Sanyo and Samsung LCD TVs.they scan and auto set tobthe correct resolution.
Watching movies to there work awesome butbsuck batter dead super quick.if hounding not plug your tablet in while watching on big screen it will be jerky and unreliable. Well it is for me anyway.
If im wrong sorry.
On my 40" Bravia, I can tweak the screen so that everything is visible. I haven't noticed any choppiness playing 720p... Haven't attempted anything 1080p yet. I'm using the Lightspeed rom with Richard's kernel, and I use Aimersoft Video Converter for my video files. Aimersoft has an Acer A500 profile that makes videos play flawlessly.

Can you see the menu bar at the bottom?
The menu bar is hidden from the TV screen always.
Yeah I can't see the menu bar, but I'm using the Xoom bluetooth keyboard which has the back, home and menu keys on it.
Guys the hdmi output is 1080p....(if you are on 4.010.40 or some simillar build..)....if you play a 1080p video...the resolution automatically changes from 720p to 1080p...

I'm not sure about the shortcuts on a standard keyboard. Why don't you play around with it and see if there are any? Then report back and let us know what they are

changing resolution on hdmi connection
When connecting my asus a500 to a HDMI MATRIX SWITCH I receive the android app with it saying 720p? how coul-d I use my 1080I panasonic 40 inch monitor as a connection for the asus a500.
unfortunately my tv only supports 1024x768 :-(
same question here
I've been looking for ways to remote control my VLC and YouTube videos. There are apps out there, but it seems like most of them need to be completely reset every time I close and reopen the browser/viewer. So I figured I could just use a remote desktop app and control it remotely that way. I don't think I'm going to do much gaming remotely, but I do want smooth 1920x1080 play-back. Or will the N4's 1280x768 screen cause it to scale down to a lower resolution? And if so, I'm wondering which is the best app to do it. Does Splashtop THD simply not work on non-Tegra devices? And will the regular HD app be limited to 720p video playback?
I remember back when I used the app on my iPad it would re-scale the whole desktop UI when I synced it to the iPad. It was kind of annoying... And I'd like to know if it will do that again before I start buying any apps.
Wait so you're trying to watch 1080p videos on the n4? It's possible with this app
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529715
[MOD] YouTube 4.4.11 (v5b), *1080p* / 720p HD (over WiFi & 3G), screen off playback
Not exactly. I want to keep watching my videos on my monitor (which is 1920x1080), I just want to sit back and use my phone as a remote. By using splashtop I should be able to use all of the play/pause and other controls via remote desktop functions.
I want to make sure that running splashtop isn't going to rescale my entire desktop UI to 1280 x 768 in syncing up to my Nexus 4. Like it did the last time I tried it with an iPad. If it does do that then I probably just won't use the app, and then I'd be spending 10$ for nothing.
Oh gotcha, just tried and you can have it use your computer's native resolution :good:
Which one, the regular Splashtop HD, or Splashtop THD?

just the regular version. the hd versions are only for tablets...
the hd versions show up for you in the play store? they don't for me.
I use Spashtop 2 and the only thing it does it change your Windows theme from Aero to classic. It can definitely be used as a remote.

have you tried the official youtube remote app? i haven't tried it personally, may be it has the reset problem you mentioned so you are looking for alternatives?

Now that you mention it. They do show up, but they say "none of your devices are compatible with this app." Good to know, I suppose. Well that settles it I guess. Thanks for the help.
EDIT:
Well, exactly what I was worried would happen happened. The screen automatically resized to 1024x768, with big black bars on my monitor. I can bring it back to full HD without too much trouble, but I have to do so every time I start splashtop on my phone. Is there a way to change the default way it handles being thrown into splashtop? So he doesn't do that resize thing?

edit the settings for the connection in the app, choose advanced, select "use computer's native display resolution"
Excellent!
There's only one little issue with it, but it's not a big deal. I just find that the connection drops too quickly. It seems like the link with my desktop breaks every time my phone goes to sleep. Also I'd like it if screen-rotation would lock... (poking at tiny icons while the screen flips about is not an easy task). But those are probably things I can fix by tweaking some settings.
Thanks again for all your help guys!

Unified Remote is my app of choice.
As you can see, you can use inputs like a touchpad or specific remotes for YouTube, Netflix, VLC, MPC, etc (I only use mouse and Netflix, which I find to be perfect). Using an RDP or VNC client seems like a rather heavyhanded method just to emulate HIDs from your bed/sofa.
Also, I've requested that this thread be moved to Q&A. Do not posts inquiries in any other subforum. Requests are accepted in themes/apps only.
I would like to be able to display my Note 4 screen on an external monitor. Notice I said display not mirror. I have a MTL device that allows me to mirror but I want to be able to mimic the functionality of when a laptop is plugged into an external monitor. For example when I open an Excel sheet on my laptop 20 rows and 20 cols might be displayed but if I connect an external monitor I can re-size the window to show 40 rows and 80 cols! With mirroring I get the same 5 rows and 5 cols on the external monitor just much bigger.
Im not aware of any apps but cant you just zoom out phone screen to have correct size on external monitor?

I have even biggest question if there's any way not to mirror and use only external monitor while using MHL? Like say I'm watching a movie and don't want to waste battery on my Note 4 displaying same movie on much smaller screen. Any third party players know to date to allow that? Or may be at least keep Note's screen blackened with very low power consumption while playing the movie on external screen. I can't find any info about that! Thanx

The stock samsung video player on note 4 does that when on wireless screen mirroring to tv. Phone screen turns off but the video continues playing on tv. I'm not sure if it's the same when using MHL.

I know about stock Sammy player, it actually quite nice but it lacks AC3 and/or DTS codecs support which makes it basically useless. I've never seen patches/tweaks for fixing this!
Hi There!
I used Kodi on Nvidia Shield Android TV 6 month.
Last night i upgraded my 34" 720 TV to 55" UHDTV (4K).
Now ( only on Kodi) my cursor located on 4-5 position down and right .
If i close the Kodi everything fine with Android desktop.
Is it way to fix?
Thank you!!!

This happens because Android TV on the SHIELD draws the UI at 1080p regardless of the actual resolution of your TV. Kodi, however, tries to handle the mouse cursor position based on the TV's actual resolution, causing the behavior you're describing.
I don't own a 4K TV myself, so I can't test this, but you could try changing the Resolution setting under Settings > HDMI to see if that fixes it.
