Hey everyone,
I'm not sure whether only I experience this issue, since I did see another user experiencing the same problem -
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80259801&postcount=163
On a custom ROM - whenever I use the front camera, and then change a mode (for example, open the front camera in photo mode, then move over to video) - the camera tries to open again, and there's an audible grinding sound coming from inside the phone. Same thing happens when I enter Instagram photo mode and close it right away - the camera opens half way, then tries to close beyond what it can, grinding noises ensue.
This did not happen on MIUI (global, 10.3.11.0), only on the custom ROMs I tried (Lineage, Pixel Experience)
Anyone else experiencing this issue? Any idea how to fix it? I'm worried it might damage the phone...
at the moment there is no way to fix it. Avoid changing modes with extended front camera. Always switch to rear, then change camera modes and switch back to front camera. Its happening on all custom roms. The camera motor should be able to handle this kind of abuse but I wouldn't want to risk it, so if you feel unable to avoid triggering it, you should go back to MIUI.
the problem is also known and was fixed in the rr image with the gcam, see changelog from 20-08-2019
I do not say if the fix was shared in other images

Unfortunally that is on K20 Pro. We can't just reuse their fixes because their implementation is different from the one on davinci. Also they reuse MIUI vendor for their roms while we use a custom vendor, which makes porting stuff over even harder. davinci trees actually have the commit.
here is the commit that fixed it for rr:
https://github.com/TheMarionette/de...mmit/3dabb66ef3ea5716368098608bfb3521f2cf73b0
here is the related commit in davinci-dev:
https://github.com/davinci-dev/andr...mmit/2a85ff40441e15e73bced4ee40b01ba594ddeded
unfortunally that did not fix it for our device.

Hi everyone, this is to request to fix a weird issue. I have flashed following roms for my G4 plus(Xt1643) : Invicta Os, RR, Pure nexus, Hexagon os. There are various versions of these roms available , I have tried them all and many a time their new updates.
I always make a clean fresh install just to be sure. The thing is whatever rom i flash I have a weird issue, that of camera. Whenever I use camera, the device gets very heat up, and while using video recording it lags like hell. It fells like it has skipped a million frames.
And many a times device gets shut down while it got heat up. I have tried many camera apps with these roms like snap camera, moto camera, motorola camera, google camera, htc camera, cameringo, footej camera.
Only footej and cameringo seem to work, but sometime they also show the same issue. And auto focus in cameringo doesn't work in video recording mode, but works in footej.
The thing which surprise me the most is everything works fine in STOCK rom!! Otherwise I would have thought it as a hardware issue. I have used enough stock rom and I flash custom roms sometimes just in hope that this time the issue will get resolved, but no luck.
I don't want to use stock rom anymore. Please suggest me a custom rom which doesn't cause this issue; if anyone else with this issue got any fix PLEASE HELP.

My device z18mini, it supports project treble, flash...,
there are deadly bugs,
1: the screen brightness is the highest by default, the adjustment is invalid, I am sure the light sensor is good
2: the camera is broken, I think it is not Affect my use,
thank you, the project treble brought by the guys, now the eyes are not very good, can let me know that the library, causing screen brightness problems, I will repair it
Let's give this thread a bit of momentum, a bug reports thread can only be good.
- on my hono9 freeform window mode causes the phone to instantly crash and reboot when you try to enable it.

Are you using the stick camera on the ROM, GCam(which is broken) or have you installed the stock camera from your original factory OS.
Either way, just use open camera, I've had no problems with it, and given the hardware in the honor 9, I'd expect open camera to give errors, which it doesnt, just can't use dual lens

where did you download the GSI ?
I've been using an Arnova GCAM port that has been great and haven't updated my phone to Pie, but suddenly as of today I can't focus on anything more than about a meter away. I haven't done anything to the software or OS recently but I dropped the phone a few days ago and wonder if I've damaged the camera - would that explain the issue? Switching back to the stock cam doesn't help unless I switch it to portrait mode - that allows better focus at 3 meters or so, which is not good in regular mode. I tried a few different Arnova versions tonight with no improvement. Any suggestions?
The output from Camera2 probe shows the following:
Hardware Level Support Category
√ Level 3
X Full
X Limited
X Legacy
(all ticked in Exposure)
Focus
√ Manual focus
√ Auto focus
√ Auto focus macro
√ Auto focus continuous picture
√ Auto focus continuous video
X Auto focus EDOF
Maybe try to switch to manual mode in stock camera app and then try to adjust focus (from micro to infinity)

I tried that, and over the whole range it only focussed really close (10 - 15 cm away) and the focus didn't change when I moved the slider across; even when focus was set at infinity, only an object close to the camera was sharp. I guess that's a hardware issue then - any ideas?
Did your camera glass broken?

No, it looks fine.
I dont know, it is possible that when you droped it, you jamed auto focus mechanism. Try to factory reset and if even that does not work, take it to service center
After watching quite a few videos on this, I used the technique of tapping/knocking around the camera module to try to loosen up a stuck motor. Eventually this worked! Dropping the camera must have caused something to get stuck, and the tapping allowed that to un-stick.

Nice to read that you have resolved your camera issues.
I reckon your device is still on Oreo and Gcam is still working fine like it always does.
Avoid upgrading your device to pie 9 which is simply atrocious/horrible/buggy.

Yeah, I haven't updated due to the issues I've read about with Pie - everything works now and I can't be bothered waiting for fixes to newer versions.
Hello everyone,
this is my first post here on XDA, so I hope I'm following standards here.
I got my second OnePlus phone, the OnePlus 6T (Mirrorblack 8GB+128GB) about two weeks ago and it has really been an upgrade from my previous OnePlus 3. However I have had some issues that make the overall impression a bit worse.
My first problem is with the camera. When taking pictures with the flash it turns the flash one for a while then turns if off for a moment before turning it back on and taking the picture. This super annoying when you are posing with a couple of friends! This doesn't happend when using the front facing flash feature. Also when you take picture with Snapchat the camera also is super slow. However it's the inverse as enabling the flash makes the camera much faster. I'm not sure if it's an OnePlus issue or an Snapchat one, I know snapchat has lots of problems so could be on their end. I also know that I didn't have the issue on my OnePlus 3.
My second problem is one that have happend very rarely, two or three times yet. It's that sometimes when I start an app, it just crashes. And I can restart it how many times I want without any difference. Force stopping it does work sometimes as with clearing cache. But sometimes doing that makes the device reboot itself. Sometimes it just keeps on rebooting itself. The solution for it as it seems is to reboot it manually, but it's extremely annoying to have it happen. It's difficult to know whats wrong since it doesn't say anything useful really.
Does anyone else have similar issues? Could it be some corruption issue or some bad app I have installed?
Do a factory reset. As for the camera that's called a slow sync with the flash as its getting the picture ready and focused, that short flash at the end is to light the picture. If it stayed on the whole time it would blind you subject as its brighter than the front camera and would most likely give red eye.
I don't have a suggestion for your second problem as I have not experienced it but also about the camera thing you mentioned, it doesn't happen when you take a picture with the front with the fake flash because the front camera has a fixed focus so it doesn't have to acquire focus like the back camera does when lighting in a dim environment.

This happens for the following reason:
- first flash - phone usues auto focus to make you and your friends, dog, food or whatever you are shooting clear and the
- second flash - after it achieves the AF lock it flashes a little bit brighter to take the photo
If you use a digital camera, DSLR, or any other camera, you will notice that they have a led light that iluminates you in the dark, then uses the xenon flash to take the photo

If you take the picture in the dark it might just try to achieve AF lock. Activating the flash does that a little faster.

You can try reflashing Oxygen OS and see if this still happens. If it does sent it to warranty
Ever since my update to 9.0.5 my camera hasn't been working, as well as phone has been blacking out, system freezing up, the LED Light turning to a sort of baby blue color until I force reboot it (this bug has been with my phone since my first boot upon a full charge from 0% after unpacking it). I have scoured the forums of here at XDA and official One Plus forums. All other people have similar camera bugs but those are features of the camera bugging out and easily fixed with a cache clearing. My issue is with the system itself, and no amount of clean (Very) flashes results in a fix. If I go into recovery, select all partitions and format those, even repeatedly has this annoying system bug persist. The camera does come back if I revert to 8.1 OTA and custom ROMs, but the security patches are too far behind for me to keep using them. I am posting here to find out if anyone has had this issue and successfully fixed it as it has been over 2 months since I received my OP5 but I cannot use it for any intensive task as it worsens the freezeups and reboots. Further I live in a remote Alaskan village and there isn't even a OP Center close to the state to send it in. No amount of stock flashing fixes it at all and I am about to curse Oneplus for not being able to push out a stable device.:crying: :edit: I forgot to add that the gyroscope no longer functions as well. Not even in the factory testing menu by entering *#808# in the dialer with the stock roms.

It's more likely that you have an hardware issue according to your detailed description of the issue. Cause the gyroscope is also needed for proper camera functionality, camera app may crash.

Yeah it is part hardware and part software. A couple of months ago I used the cracked unbrick tool found here at XDA and I regained most functionality which was lost after upgrading from 9.0.4 - 9.0.5, though I do still get system freeze ups and reboots. But that is from a faulty unit not any of the ROMs.
I apologize for reviving an old post so any mods may close this thread.
