Honor Band 5 locked/hidden activities - Other SmartWatches

Hello,
I've recently gotten my hands over the new Honor Band 5 and I was happy until I tried searching outdoor cycling activity without luck. I wasn't able to find it, just the indoor, so I went to their webpage and it seems outdoor cycling its hidden and only available if the paired phone its either running EMUI or iOS, which my phone isn't, since its running MIUI.
I'm mostly a bike user and I don't have much use on a band that, despite being really great for its price and had many functions, it doesn't allow me to just measure the one I want, so I'm wondering, does anyone have any idea if this issue can be bypassed?
I believe this issue its also present on Honor Band 4, so if for that its some solution, it might also be applied to this version as well.

HI. I just downloaded and installed 1.1.0.96 and my HB5 now has everything it was supposed to, plus o2 sensor and music player controls.

My update keeps failing... tried 5 times.

Not on the watch. It shows up under exercise - cycle on the app. So I guess we still don't.

WHat does it say? Mine took 45 minutes i thought it was stuck in a bootloop.

Is it any better with the outdoor cycling option in band tho? I am really confused as to why such a stupid option is exclusive. The only reason stopping me from buying honor tbh.

I have Honor band 5 firmware 96
On band the outdoor cycling appears in activity just above indoor cycling

Same here in activities indoor and outdoor cycling available

Are you using it with a NON Honor, Huawei or iPhone though? The small print on the promo stuff says "Supported on Magic UI and iOS9 or later".
Also, if it doesn't show on the watch what functionality is there if it is started from the phone?
Outdoor cycling and heart rate tracking while I am cycling is the main reason I am thinking of getting this fitness band. I have a Samsung phone.
Thanks.

Same
I'd had Huawei p10 and outdoor cycling option was available on my honor band 5. Now I have Samsung Note 9, outdoor cycling disappeared.

05-04-2017 BAD NEWS - CONFIRMED! Red tinted corners when recording 1080p60 videos!.

Hi guys!
UPDATE N°2: Ok, so.... Lenovo knew this at least 3 months before launching and did nothing about it... How we know it? this...
GitHub commit on MotorolaMobilityLLC
Sad to knew that knowing that this phone have a design issue, they did nothing about it.
UPDATE: we have recieved a final answer by Lenovo. "Suck it up". Read it by yourselves.
MattForumsMgr answer on Lenovo Forums.
So sorry for all of us that Lenovo have so useless developers that don't know how to turn off an infrared light while the camera or even the display is turned ON. SHAME on Lenovo for this. Help me make this public. This cannot be an appropiate answer.
END OF THE UPDATE.
So, i noticed this since day one but i thougth that i was the only one and that probably i had a deficient unit, but now i have confirmed with at least 4 more moto G5 Plus owners (all of the from Latin America) that they are having this issue too.
I'll post a few videos so you can see clearly what am i talking about.
So, as you can see, there is a red tinted corner on the video. This happens only when your record 1080p 60 fps videos.
Here you can see a video that i recorded on a retail store with the same phone (In spanish relating this to a friend of mine that have a recognized tech blog in Chile. Video N° 1 is my video and N° 2 is recorded by the exhibition device. [NOTE: it is not a dummy phone. In fact, i even sent the video from that g5 plus to mine using android beam (NFC and bluetooth)].
Now, a video recorded by a reviewer from Mexico that also noticed this. (Min 11:50)
And for the last, a video recorded by another friend (sent by telegram, so it is compressed)
So guys, i need you to tell me if this is happening on your variants or not. Please report saying where are you from, if you have or not this issue and variant that you have.
I'm from Chile, I have this issue and my variant is single sim XT1680, 2gb/32gb.
THanks you so much guys.
P.S. I added a poll so it would be easier to quantify the people affected by this.
Tomorrow my dad is getting this phone too, so i'll probably check with him and upload another video!
Same issue over here... Bought in Mexico, 2 GB version... TBH it seems something related to software, maybe an OTA would fix it
Enviado desde mi Moto G (5) Plus mediante Tapatalk
No issues here...
Using Indian 4GB variant XT1686
Edit: It is there in low lightning or dark situations.
Thanks for the reports... Till now it looks like is only happening on latam variants...
Here! Lenovo forums for the issue!

UPDATE: so i have just recieved a report from a guy from india saying that he is facing this issue.... 4gb variant too... keep reporting guys! the more that we know, the best that we can do to reach lenovo to fix this
UPDATE 2: another guy from lenovo forums is saying that he have this in india! @kaustubh_lipare can you check again? remember that it is on dark/low light conditions and recording on 1080p 60 fps.
Same issue here..

My apologies for the previous post ( Edited that one ). Earlier i did the recording outside in day light so did not notice the issue. But in dark or low light conditions the problem is there. Below is the link for the sample video recording.

OK, so, in the Lenovo forum, MattForumsMgr (from the motorola staff) said that they will look onto this...
Also, a friend of mine have contacted Moto Chile, and they said that they have escalated the issue to Moto Mexico who are the people in charge in all LATAM.
How do I record video at 60 fps? I want to test it on my phone.

go to the camera app, swype from the left and you'll see a menu. Go down and search for video resolution, select Full HD 1080p 60 fps.

Swipe from left edge of screen to middle when in Camera App. It will give you the camera settings menu. In the Video section, select Video size(rear). You should see an option for Full HD 1080p (60fps). Select it and you are good to go.
The problem only occurs when you are trying to record video in the dark or even when there is a black object close to the edge of the image(in my case upper-left or lower-right).
On a broader note, I see a similar but lighter red-tint when I try to use professional mode camera at 3200 ISO setting in dark or with black objects. So, am guessing this has something to do with the image processing algorithms.
Same issue here in photos. When u try too use manual mode with high ISO say 1600 or 3200 this red tinted corners are appearing.. Attached are the sample photos...
It is caused by the infrared sensors. This can easily be patched by Moto. They just have to deactivate the sensors when the screen is on or when the cam is on. Let just wait
I am assuming you meant this issue is due to the camera sensor capturing the bursts from the infra-red LEDs used for proximity sensing.
This has nothing to do with those since when Camera is in use these LEDs are turned off. You can notice it if you see the camera assembly through another camera before and after launchinng the Camera APP.

Yes.. I think you are right. In manual mode keep the ISO at 3200 and take the camera far near to any object. You can see the alternate change at left and right side of screen. I think we just have to wait for the fix. Hope Lenovo will patch this soon.

Cellular strength and throughput

We know how much you like to stream, ahem, "videos", and so cellular data is mega-important. Rate this thread to express how you think the Moto X4's LTE performs. A higher rating indicates that it's fantastic: throughput is excellent and signal strength is top-notch.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add.

Yes mine system takes about 18g as well.
One bar better signal than my S8 side by side.
It would be helpful if folks would add their location, carrier and dBm seen, as bars are not directly proportional across different devices.
Thanks.

I do believe all version have Alexia pre installed. But it comes disabled or enabled. This doesn't make any sense, this is too much for a default Android N installation. Motorola apps also aren't that big. Can anyone with Alexia enabled version confirm how much space the system occupy?
Where I live Alexia isn't available. System space is 15GB

Something that I thought about here, is it maybe that high because of the dual slots for the new way that updates are done (like the Pixels have, the A and B slots so updates can be more seamless)? I don't have this phone, or the Pixels (so I don't know if the Pixel uses that much space for the system apps), but 15 would be approximately double the normal amount (such as on my N5X uses 7 GB). Like I said, its just a thought, but someone could confirm or deny how much the system apps on a Pixel take up, you could have an answer.

What I have found about system partition is in here: https://source.android.com/devices/...-did-ab-affect-the-2016-pixel-partition-sizes
Yet, in real world scenario, each system partition is taking (4GB + 2GB to the vendor)*2
I have also found that google assistant can take up to 5 GB!
What I can tell you about this phone, that you should know is:
- Front facing camera have fixed focus, and the minimum distance for a good focus is about 45cm from phone! Acceptable from 35cm and beyond. See attached photo.
- Original Motorola Camera app is beta and buggy by now. Can be very slow sometimes.
- Back Facing Camera has pretty low MP for me. As this doesn't have zoom lens, 12MP is too low to make any digital zoom. I am jumping from a Moto X Play with 21MP to the Moto X4 with 12MP. I got used to take pictures away and cropping it with digital zoom, keeping a descent quality. Now this resource is gone.
- Fingerprinting reader has medium speed. Is acceptable. And it is limited to 5 fingers only.
- Screen Brightness is pretty low for a mid high device. It loose lot's of viewing when under the sun, specially compared to moto X Play.
-There is only one speaker on the phone, all the sounds comes from the ear speaker! And the quality of the sound is really bad when loud. I couldn't figure it out what is really happening, but the problem seems to come from something vibrating. I am betting on the IP68 protection barrier on the speaker.
Now getting back to the topic of this thread, the cellular strength for this phone is average, but Wifi is weak, from my bedroom, which is the room with the most distance to the router, I get a lot of connection drops, I have to switch Wifi off and use 4G to get a stable connection, compared to Xiaomi Mi A1 that I had before, the X4 is not that great, but I still recommend this phone, the build quality is amazing and great camera, the Mi A1 though, just the camera and screen let's it down, tried with GCam HDR+ port, pictures are not that great on the A1 and screen contrast is a bit low, but if you are on a budget, it's the phone to get for sure.

Much better 4G reception than my old phone
Cell reception is bad on this phone it drains my battery fast on 4G. The only solution I have for my phone is to switch to 3g it seems to work I guess.
generally every single Motorola smartphone has always been excellent compared to Samsung, apple, and lg. I always got a bar or 2 more than most devices ive had. I usually still have service even when coworker next to me keeps getting into no service spots with sprint. from what I understand is the x4 has two separate partitions. one with what your using, then when you get updates it will download and install into system b, and once restart you reboot the x4 reboots into system b. this way if their is something wrong with the update you don't restart and either get bootloops or brick. people have had that issue in the past. honestly I was disappointed with the x4. the old moto x, moto x2, and moto x pure were quite superb with decent specs and the moto assistant was 3 times more responsive and helpful than the alexa bull****. of course that was when google had acquired Motorola. now im kind of thinking of trying the one plus 6 or waiting for the pixel 3. I extremely hated Samsung touchwiz, htc sense ui, and didn't really like lg roms. but seeing oneplus 6 unboxing it seems to be near clean stock android. may have to give it a go

yeah I'm on T mobile. I think it was a local problem with the towers in the area. It was in rural Texas, and the issue seems to have cleared up. I think it just coincided with the first week I owned the phone. I don't think it's the phone, and T mobile seems to have cleared up the network issue since my review actually.
The biggest drawbacks I see, coming from the past Samsung flagship Note 4, is the minimum & maximum brightnesses could be a bit brighter/dimmer, and the camera could fare better in dim light.
Note 4 had a wider brightness adjustment range, from dimmer to brighter) although I haven't had issues with seeing in direct sunlight, the screen just isn't as bright as the phone I'm used to, and doesn't go as dim as I'd like it to go in the dark. but overall doesn't present a problem honestly.
The camera kind of sucks without flash in dim lighting too. But in bright light, it snaps stunning, wide-angled selfies, and pretty good rear facing pictures.

I was actually having issues with T mobile a couple weeks ago. not just me, but also my family. They seem to have cleared up though. I'd recommend it if you can deal with mid-range brightness adjustment and poor camera performance in dim lighting. Those are definitely my biggest drawbacks

I have both. I have tried every possible tweak to the video on the P30 Pro. The camera (for still photos) is much better on the P30 and I don't think anyone can argue differently. However, if video is important there simply isn't a competition. The S10 produced fantastic video and 4K on the front facing camera is nice as well. The P30 Pro has a very difficult time with lighting changes and it throws off color badly. There are times when panning to different scenes will completely change the color palette on the P30. What was brown becomes almost red and there is a lot of oversaturation at times. There is also some stutter to video at times. I have other complaints as well. I'd say if still photos are most important keep it. If the screen quality and video are high on your list the S10 blows it away on both levels. FYI... The microphone is also terrible on the P30 Pro. I use an external mic which solves it - but the built in mic on the S10 is far better.

Appreciate the help.
P30 Pro 256gb Aurora Power
P30 for still photos and for speed I think according to some benchmarks and for battery life according to some users,
S10 for video and screen and much much more refined and better UI really the one ui is amazing ,
Also frankly the s10 gets very good photos and the weak areas in the Samsung camera app is covered by the Gcam port :good:

Video is the dealbreaker for me. 30fps in 2019? Come on!

If video is your priority it's pretty cut and dry. S10.

I had both of them at the same time and I took the same photos and videos at the same time.
I bought the p30 pro because I got convinced by "authoritative" websites and reviewers, luckily thanks to these I managed to sell it without losing too much money.
The dynamic range is poor, the indoor photos go yellow and the outdoor ones tend to purple, a clear blue sky becomes lilac, the ryyb sensor is not so bright, the photos are even darker than the s10plus, the night mode alters the scene and creates a lot of noise, the photos are too compressed.
The only good thing is the 5x zoom.
The gap on the videos is huge.
I understand fashion, I understand sponsorships and collaborations, I understand that youtubers need to make views but I felt cheated.
The p30pro has a good Huawey style camera but not yet like other competitors.
This is my experience.
The reviews of this device were different than the user experience. More so than usual I believe.

4K 150fps 10bit or 8K 30fps is what it's capable of according to Samsung. Of course (software) always dictates what the user experience is. Since the Exynos version will be rooted and soon after development starts, these hardware capabilities will be explored shortly thereafter. That's the chief reason why to pick the "underdog" so to speak.
What's the best place to get a P30 pro on a good deal?
I want to give it a try, if anyone is looking to offload one please let me know
Besides video recording here some advantages of the s10+:
-Better qhd screen
-Better UI
-Unlockable bootloader
-gcam ports
I have both and long story short, the perfect phone will be the front of the s10 including the screen design camera fingerprint and second speaker , the back of the p30 pro design color camera faster wireless charger and battery running oneUI powered by the sd855
Both are good. There are more negatives about the p30pro which can be easily specially yellowish photos can be fixed with snapseed ... that's the price to pay for if u want this marvelous night mode camera and zoom.
If making photos (low-light and possibly zoomed) is your primary focus --> P30+
For just about anything else --> S10+
I have the S10+ and the camera and zoom would be my only reason to switch to the P30+, but just about everything else is better on the S10+ I believe... screen, software, speakers, video.
Batterylife, I can only say I have no issues at all with the S10+ (though I DID specifically go for the 10+ for battery life) and can easily manage 1 day and with some minor effort I'd say 2. Not sure about the P30 Pro, though I heard it's great in that aspect.
The P30 Pro has been proven to phone home to Chinese servers. If you have to use a VPN or special hosts blocker on a phone for security concerns, then I'd never consider it in the first place.

There is no evidence of any links to Chinese servers, only the potential, and iOS and other Google phones have the same potential... Nor is there any evidence of a single piece of classified data being moved via Huawei, its just a bid by Trump and US to get a better trade deal with China, even last week Trump said that the ban on Huawei could be lifted as part of a new trade deal... so one can see its not a security issue but a business one. See here the quote from Trump https://www.cnbc.com/2019/05/23/trump-huawei-trade-deal.html
USA is the only country where iPhone sales are strong, 47% use iPhones vs 16% globally. So with Huawei making big inroads (now no.2 after Samsung) Trump needed to protect that 47% (imagine if the iPhone user base in the USA fell by 30% odd..)

Yep and let's not forgot the $200 Huawei phones. I don't think there is anything in that price range that is as feature rich.

Not about specs.
Its about software updates and value of phone. I will personally go for s10+.
And in many countries (like mine - Singapore), shops do not accept huawei phones as trade in anymore.

Oppo Find X5 Pro "Real Life Review"

Here's my review after owning for 10 days. I am not an Oppo ambassador so therefore these thoughts are not biased in any way. I could have gotten a Samsung S22 Ultra for around the same monthly price (maybe it was £5 more) but the lack of charger in the box put me off. The Oppo gift incentive also swung me over.
I'm sure everyone knows about the features and specs of the phone so far so I won't bother with those.
What I like:
- The build quality and design are exceptional, without a case the phone feels great in the hand, although it's very slippery if you have cold hands and there is no clammyness from your fingers to provide grip. The ceramic feels better than glass and I haven't seen any scratches yet. It also feels very slim so one handed use is possible.
- The screen is very good, even in 1080p it's hard to see the pixels compared to other 1080p phones.
- Main camera and ultrawide very good, in the right lighting conditions they provide excellent shots with plenty of detail.
- Fast and very few stutters in the OS. I haven't encountered any bugs yet.
- Charging is insanely quick and phone doesn't really get hot when charging.
- XPAN is cool and interesting.
- Vibration motor is much better than previous phones I've used. On the strongest setting I won't be missing any calls.
- Battery life is reasonable in terms of SOT. I consistently get 6-7 hours under heavy use.
- Wireless Android Auto works flawlessly.
What I don't like:
Camera
- You cannot zoom or switch between cameras when shooting 4k60 video.
- Some shots on the main and ultrawide cameras can be over exposed, it sometimes takes a few shots in the same light to get a good one. Hopefully they can fix this in a future update.
- Some indoor daytime shots of moving subjects are always blurry.
- Selfies are often, in my experience, over exposed, and not on par with what I've seen from P40 Pro.
- Videos taken in 1080p do not send well over Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms. It could be to do with the compression used in this format, but once uploaded to these sites, the videos are very choppy, colours are crushed, and the videos are in general pretty unusable. Only videos sent in 4K look ok. This was an issue with the Find X3 Pro, and I am not sure why Oppo have not addressed this yet.
- There's no getting around the fact that this phone lacks any reasonable camera zoom at all. 2X is not zoom in my opinion.
- Forget nighttime shots of moving subjects, night photo takes 2s to process (although quicker than other phones).
- I feel like the MarisiliconX thing is mostly a marketing gimmick.
Screen
- The AlwaysOnDisplay is very dim and there's no way to change it. Also the coloured icons are very hard to distinguish at a glance. If the display is dim, then greyscale icons would be easier to see.
- 120Hz doesn't seem to be active in a lot of apps, so I had to manually force it using an app from youtube video.
Software/OS
- Cannot increase grid size in ColorOS launcher any more than 5 x 6. Please give option for up to 9 x 6 like Nova? Otherwise launcher is perfect!
- There is no desktop mode when plugged into a usb-c monitor like Samsung Dex or Huawei EMUI Desktop. You can indeed enable desktop mode in developer settings but it's not the same experience.
- When using a 3rd party launcher (I always use Nova), there are some bugs when going back to home screen, e.g. the recent apps screen flashes up for a split second when it shouldn't. Because of this I forced myself to get used to ColourOS launcher.
- There is no button to turn off/on 5G in the notifications quick settings menu.
- "Hey google" only works in Android Auto & Google Maps if you have the global "Hey Google" listening setting enabled. Not sure if this is an android 12 bug or just Oppo bug.
- Oppo PC Connect is only available on PC, not Mac or Linux.
Battery/Charging
- Standby battery life could be better. It drains about 5-7% overnight when my Huawei P40 Pro only drained 2%. If I barely use the phone during the day (only check/reply to messages etc and use around 1.5h SOT), then the battery is still below 40% when I go to bed. My P40 Pro barely drained when not used heavily. Of course Huawei do much more aggressive battery/memory management and if I enabled optimisation for all apps in the Oppo's settings then maybe I could get similar but I don't want to mess with notifications.
- Wireless charging with a non-oppo wireless charger seems very slow. I have a 5W charger in my Lexus and when charging using it, the phone still loses battery when using wireless android auto.
All in all, I actually preferred using my old Huawei P40 Pro as the camera was superior in most situations as well as better standby battery but the hacked google services installed just put me off. Android auto was very temperamental, hence I can't stick with it.
Interesting review.
I agree. The Marisilicon thing is a slight gimmick. Its not as good as Google Pixel image processors. My Pixel 3 still takes better images.
Build quality is good but heavyish for me. I had an OP8 and I'm finding the camera bump a little odd even after 2 weeks.
I hate that I'm being forced to power down using power button and volume up. Had to download a 3rd party app to make this process more convenient. Also download a lockdown app which is missing from here.
Also have a weird YouTube Bluetooth issue. When I'm listening to YouTube in the car and someone calls, the YouTube still plays in the background through the speakers as well as the conversation!?
Sometimes the apps get stuck and you need to kill the app. The comments section on the YouTube app also sticks and you need to press home and return to the YouTube app. Minor bugs which I expect and hope Oppo fix through software updates.
I too was swung by the gift pack. I was originally planning to get the OP10 Pro but EE do not offer this handset and I get 30pc friends and family so this was a no brainer.
Happy with the phone. At over a thousand quid should be perfect.

I like your thinking, I am also on EE with the 30pc f&f discount :'D I went for the smart plan so I can hand the phone back with no upgrade charge after 12 months if something better comes along.
I used to work for them years ago and had the discount ever since. It makes the RRP of the phone over 24 months much less (if I factor-in the price i'd pay for sim only anyway).
For your youtube issue, have you tried giving the youtube app permission to Phone? I've had some other apps ask me to set Phone permissions (such as Tidal) in order to pause during a call. I guess YouTube might need that permission so that it can see that the Phone is in use?
It is a little heavy compared to other phones i've used. I have been checking Youtube nearly every day to see if anyone has done a drop test lol.
For me the power button thing isn't a big issue as I rarely power it off.
I agree though, at the price, the phone should be perfect. This is what is kind of putting me off compared to the Huawei I paid only £300 for in Grade A condition from CeX.
Thanks. I've just set the permission on YouTube as per your suggestion. I've never had to do that ever before so just another tedious quirk!
Won't say it too loudly but surprised the F&F is applied to the handset and not just the line rental but I'm not complaining.
Keep me posted to any other bugs/fixes. I'll do likewise

It is the line rental, I mean if you add up 24 months of line rental and subtract the price of a sim only (that you'd need to pay anyway, usually around £15pm) then that's your effective handset price.

...so the YouTube permission didn't work. I can't figure out what's going on!?!

I agree re the in-hand feel, I am a fan of ceramic and yes on paper it is not much smaller than other phones but does feel more manageable.
- The AlwaysOnDisplay is very dim and there's no way to change it. Also the coloured icons are very hard to distinguish at a glance. If the display is dim, then greyscale icons would be easier to see.
I'd agree wth this, they are tiny
Re the blurry photos, I still think it is better than a Samsung, maybe only the Pixel or iPhone is better in this regard?
I think I prefer my S22U overall especially the more reliable fingerprint sensor but prefer the size and in-hand feel of the Oppo.

I don't have any issues whatsoever with the fingerprint sensor, it seems faster than on my huawei - are you using a screen protector?
I contemplated returning to get S22U but today is the last day of my return window so I think I will just keep it. Samsung is slightly more expensive and I still need to buy seperate charger.
I can trade-in in 12 months anyway and get something else on my contract so maybe Oppo will have released a Samsung beating phone by then.
There is nothing wrong with the FPS, just think the S22U is better. I have had the Pixel 6 and it is way better than that. I just think the ultrasonic sensor is more reliable, less prone to issues if your hands are wet etc

Ah I see, having had both Oppo and S22U (exynos?), is samsung better in every department?

I think the Oppo camera is better indoors but that is anecdotal, actually other than zoom reach the Oppo camera is slightly better overall I think (for stills) I also think the Oppo battery is better at least standby wise. Other than your personal preference re size and design I think the S22U is better for most other things
