So many options, what should I purchase - Android Head-Units

I need to upgrade my deadly slow Android Head unit and I am so confused. I have a Hyundai Tucson (Ix35) 2016. I miss my old Joying head unit, but they seem to have nothing that fits my fascia (please correct me if I’m wrong). I think I will have to buy from AliExpress so I will have no support at all from the seller (correct me again if I’m wrong). So I want to get a device that is well supported by xda developers. I like when I can get a better firmware from here.
Checking the specs, should I take...
- 8” screen with buttons or 10.1” screen without buttons
- Android 8, 8.1 or 9 ?
- Which chip?
- Which mcu?
- PX5 or PX6 or something else. If you say PX6, would you prefer an octa core px5 or a 6 core px6?
- Is it really worth it to take the max RAM/ROM available?
- How can I make sure it won’t stop working when it’s freaking hot or freaking cold like my current unit. I hate my current head unit for that. My previous Joying head unit was not weather sensitive like this one.
- On which website should I purchase it. If you say AliExpress, do you know a good seller or a good brand?
Anything else I should know before purchasing?
Thanks

What country are you in?
You might consider buying through Amazon. get something with a bunch of feedback, a half-decent star score, and sold by either Amazon itself or the manufacturer/official distributor --- NOT because that's solid information, but because the Chinese companies who watch their ratings will actually offer tech support and send you free replacements if you give them 1* ratings and kick up a fuss in Amazon feedback
10" is nice if you have the room for it. 7" stuff looks super-dated in comparison, regardless of actual specs

Time to upgrade, thoughts?

Hey everyone,
I've had an AN-21 U for 3 years, and it's time to upgrade. I was wondering if anyone had any input on the "best" head unit out nowadays? I'll need the normal car stuff, GPS, WIFI, USB, fast (quad core I'd assume), OBD2 ( I currently have USB, but I can goto BT), capacitive touch, etc. I don't need DVD or anything else on the front, I'll just USB for everything.
Thanks for the input, I REALLY look forward to seeing how much better these have gotten in the last 3 years.
If you Google search hotaudio dasaita, this unit just release early this month and comes with universal modal and few vehicle specialized modal
I think current trend is MTCD unit with PX5 CPU + 2GB or Intel Sofia CPU + 2GB
In exact same boat as OP.
My AN21u still serves its purpose, but I suspect any of the current generation should noticeably outperform it.
I'm leaning towards the Joying 2GB Sofia models simply because after catching up on these forums for the past few days, it just seems like the most solid and popular.
That being said, the only thing that is holding me back is talk of octa-core units that should be a step up, but so far there doesn't seem to be anything that stands out.
I think I saw mention that Joying will be putting out an octa-core soon, but does anyone have solid information on that?

Have had my new Joying 2GB installed for a couple days now and it's indeed night and day compared to the AN-21 U. There is some tinkering involved, like getting voice calling to work, but the snappiness and increased functionality are substantial. Also, as you can see, the support for this model on these forums is outstanding. I also got $120 for my AN-21 U which I wasn't expecting.
I think right now there are only two options: a PX5 or an Intel Sofia unit.
Awesome thanks for the followup guys. I don't currently have a cell phone (live in the country) so I don't need to worry about the calling. Do you have a link to the unit you bought?
Corpcd- Any advantage on one over the other? Links by chance?
As always, thanks guys.

I think Intel Sofia has better support, there is a post here at xda with tons of owners.
In terms of performance, I'vent seen yet a comparison between the two chipsets, they've got different architectures. But differences are more related to having 2gb RAM instead of the chipset itself, I guess.
Where to buy? Look at units that fit your car model and decide if you buy it from aliexpress (cheaper and long time to arrive home), the brand web or ebay. I'd recommend go for a (most expensive, usually) local reseller, if anyone is available.
Brands: Joying (looks like the most trustable so far), Pumping, Dasaita (hotaudio), Klyde, Xtrons, Erisin.
For me, the best way to get my Joying Sofia was to order from Joying Europe (Germany). Free shipping with DHL to most European countries, delivery is 3-4 days. As I've stated in other threads, I am very happy with the Intel Sofia unit. It feels like a next-gen stereo compared to the 3188 1GB, however I have no idea how it compares to the other new units.

The problem with Joying units is that there are only two for my car model (Skoda-VAG group), one does not have DVD nor SD (not to have SD is a problem, it limits the use of USBs ports, and probably you can´t install Nav software in the USB) and the other one has DVD slot, but it does not have a DVD drive inside! It says: "With no CD/DVD slot, the "Exit" and "DVD" buttons not working", which is a little bit anoying.
But yes, If I could I'd go for an Intel Sofia from Joying from the european warehouse.
Xtrons seems to have an european warehouse also.

I drive a Skoda Fabia I bought the one with the dummy DVD-slot. The buttons work fine (they've been re-labelled to something else, can't remember what right now). The dummy slot itself doesn't bother me.
Edit: I could take a picture for you after work
So something along these lines? https://www.amazon.com/JOYING-Android-Stereo-Navigation-Bluetooth/dp/B01M670UWI

Yeah, that's the one I got (JY-UL135N2). I ordered straight through the Joying web site. They have an 8% off promotion going on till the end of March. Their free shipping is DHL. I ordered on a Friday and received my unit (Toronto, Canada) on Tuesday (with $30 of duties to pay as they listed the value of the radio as a gift worth $80).
What do you think of it so far? A deal breaker for me is the OBD2 problems. I need that, and decent sound quality.

Sound quality seems good to me, and I think the newest ROM addresses ODB2 issues. Don't have an adapter yet so not sure about that. The overall speed and instant on make it a very impressive upgrade from the AN-21 U. Hands free voice calling is pretty cool.
Overall very happy with the upgrade.
Thanks for the input, I went ahead and bought one. For some reason this one is coming from China so it's going to take awhile lol.

Their free shipping option is DHL which took three days from China to Canada. I believe on Joying's US site, they list some units separately as being in the US Warehouse, but they are priced slightly higher.
By the way, I hooked up my generic ODB adapter and Torque is running with no issues.
3 days is pretty quick, I'm in the Missouri so it'll probably next weekend that I receive it and do the install. I can't wait. The lag on this AN-21 U is driving me nuts lol
Well, I stand corrected. I just got an automated call from DHL, should be here Tuesday, lol. Time to start reading the forums...
Don't upgrade to anything. New units will arrive march with octa core. Just now joying release it!
Just wait 1 more month

Joying TM121N2 vs TO139P4

Hi folks,
I'm replacing a busted factory navigation unit in my 2011 Camry and after reading through these very helpful forums I've more or less settled on Joying, but would like advice on choosing between a TM121N2 or TO139P4. After sending car info and dash pics Joying recommended the PX5-based TO139P4; looking through their site the only other option that fits my fascia seems to be the SoFIA-based TM121N2.
On the surface the TO139P4 would seem to be a better choice (newer design, 9" vs 8", 4gb RAM vs 2gb, Android 8.0 vs 6.0) but I get the impression from the forums that this unit would be harder to customize than the TM121N2 (which I believe will work with the custom ROM posted by gtxaspec - please correct me if I'm wrong).
I don't intend to do any extreme customization, I just want to be able to fix things that don't work as I like then leave it alone. Primary usage is just navigation and music (since in reality 90% of the time my wife drives this car).
All other things being equal, given the choice, which one would you guys choose?
TIA for any advice
you also an choose TO121P2 or TO121P4:
Please read the reviews on amazon regarding Joying after sale service. I would recommend another brand. If your unit broke after 15 days (Joying policy), it will cost you almost double to get it repaired. I am one of the recent victims with TM121N2.

Thanks, somehow I missed seeing TO121P2. I can't find the P4 on their site (at least not in their search) but it does turn up on AliExpress.

Get the P4, I just got it. Works great. Service and support is decent, had no problems. My first joying was defective and they exchanged it, and paid me the cost of shipping it back to them 100%. Firmware updates regularly, what more could you want?
If you see an Intel model, you can special order it from joying in a P4 model, which is what I did. My model is only offered in an Intel N2 model, and they were able to give me the same facia in a P4. Really great.
Thanks for the advice folks, I ended up ordering a TO121P4 and received it today.

Ownice C800 8 channel DSP

Hello everyone , i’ve found this video with a new HU from Ownice, seems a Px5 but with a 8 channel DSP... someone had some info about this guy?
https://youtu.be/7DKrOWICZz0
http://icar.vn/dau-android-ownice-c800-pro-ol-xxxxl/
Interesting, I've been waiting for a few weeks for it to come out. I was going to buy a C500+ but they were announcing a new K3 version coming soon. This looks to have a MTCP MCU I wonder if it's the same as the new DSP Joying unit and if the firmwares will be interchangeable as with MTCD/E units.
I don’t know what kind of DSP is used by joying, but it's the first time I saw an 8 channel in an Android HU, and I think it will come with a totally different hardware
Actually in one video they compare the c800 with the joying with tape on it to hide whose it is. They suggest the joying DSP is inferior (unsurprisingly )
Uh oh, It may almost be that time for me to grab one
Actually the 8 channel thing is probably a "typo". On the official Ownice Vietnamese distributor site it's listed as a 6 channel DSP and goes for roughly 620 CAD.
Ok I take it back I just saw a post on their facebook. It seems there's a pro version with the 8 channel DSP. I hope the pro version still has the IPS screen I couldn't get more than that I'm not on facebook.
There’s someone have tried this unit? Where I can buy it? On AliExpress I’ve found only the 6 channel version...

To buy C800Pro, need separate write to Seller, that: "I whant buy C800Pro (8ch DSP)"
----------------------
P.S> Sellers do not have in free access C800 lot for sale, so I made a request separately. It turns out that this pre-order.
That's correct and if you order from the official Ownice store on Ali it's gonna cost an extra 100USD on top of the K2 High price, Shenzen Burgeon wants 50USD + the K3 High price. I would say there's no need to order the 8 channel DSP unless you are going to use more than 6 channels. If you want video out or Carplay you can request it and pay the extra and save a bit. If you are ordering a unit that comes with a large custom frame you are best request they don't assemble the HU and frame before shipping. You can easily assemble it yourself and it will save you having to wait for a replacement frame. Their packaging is useless and whoever puts the HU in the box is clueless.

What CPU to go for for my first Android HU

Hello there,
Since I'm limited to size for my Audi A4 B6 2003 model i decided to go with a 1DIN motorized flip-out unit.
I've started to look some devices in this category and the Xtrons P710P caught my eye but later I found out that there are at least 3 more brands that sell this format and exactly the same front design with various specs.
The mentioned Xtronx unit uses an A35 CPU for which I dont know the frecvency yet however, the competition, Eunavi model WX7088 sells the same unit but with an A53 CPU for a 100$ less. Heck, for the same price as Xtrons I could get 4GBRAM and Octacore but do I really need that much power if the CPU is older then the A35?
So im wondering should I go for the cheaper version Eunavi that uses an older CPU from 2011 or with Xtrons for the newer CPU that came out in 2015. I really dont want to meet a laggy unit.
Cons for Xtrons is also a nice website with some info, customer support and accessories while Eunavi wins hands down on aliexpress orders and weirdly, on customer satisfaction.
Looking for anyone interested in giving me some headsup.

Current Head unit models?

Hey folks
A few years ago I was following PX6-based head units here and a few reputable Aliexpress sellers seemed to be the go-to. Now it seems PX6 are still regularly discussed but I can't find mention of anything newer - could someone confirm for me if there is a better specced SoC that has become the new norm for these chinese manufactured units, and who is selling them? Or are PX6 based units still the best on the market? My primary concerns are stability and responsiveness, hence wanting a well supported, mature product that is known to either have a good ROM from the factory or support for one of the ROMs the legends here on XDA have put together.
FWIW, I am after either a standard double-DIN unit or double-DIN with oversized display.
Cheers!

There are a lot resellers of PX6 units. I self bought a Teyes CC3 with a new CPU. The competitors of Teyes are King beats and Joying who uses also the new octa core cpu. The Teyes and King beats radios are quite thin so they fit in almost any car (if your car is supported with Oem panels for in the dashboard) Teyes and King beats are popular in Russia and Malaysia. There are no dealers in Europe or the US, but i hope they can find a dealer in Europe because i bought the radio now on Alibaba.
