It gets warm while it's warp charging also
what temperature does it goes to?
for real? I didn't know the heat still there after SD835...
I play CODM for 3-4hrs straight sometimes and on this phone as well now I have one.
It gets warm to the touch, nice to warm your fingers in the cold type of warm, not like burning hot.
Gets a bit warm after an hour but still bearable while gaming.
The phone over heats within 45 minutes while running Strava. This is while the phone is charging (5V 3A, not warp), 100% brightness, Wifi, GPS, Data, and BT on.
I played COD on it for about an hour and it never overheated. If anything it was slightly warm. [emoji123][emoji123][emoji123]

Hi guys, so I just bought this phone 2 days ago and last night I installed the auto-chess dota2 game (Underlords). It was already set to max graphics and the fps unlimited (de screen was set to 90Hz and brightness to 60%). After idk 10-15 minutes the phone was already pretty hot under the camera and around the volume buttons, I don't have anything to measure the temperature but it wasn't so pleasant to touch in that zone.
After that, I let it down for 30 minutes then install pubg set on high and start playing while the phone was charging and overall this time was good, just slightly warm but I don't understand why on Underlords would go so high. Can anyone test this?
Edit:
Regarding this problem, after some research on it, I found that many high-end phones have problems with this game. Underlords it's a mess and bad optimized... so I'll blame the game and not the phone or system.
Never had heating up problems with phone. Way cooler than my old Moto z3 play.
No problems with heating whatsoever, even while warp charging
I'm experiencing this issue of heat , it started when I tested my phone on a benchmark app and my device heated more than usual but from that day after it heats everytime I play PUBG or sometimes even watching Netflix.

Phone heats quickly if you use brightness at 100% and camera to click or for video.
you would have an iron in your hand
I have had no heat issue until now. Latest update bring that issue to my OP7T

Probably before january update. Current 10.0.9 is also fine.
Guys the problem with heating is real. I can vouch that I did not have heating issues earlier when I had just go my phone but now it heats for any reason and guaranteed to heat during charging. For the record I dont have a single game on my phone and I rarely use my camera app. Also I did not experience heating while I was on custom ROM (MSM-Xtended). This proves that a certain update of OxygenOS was not optimised for temperature control and I want to find out from which version it started so any input is appreciated.

I noticed while playing games such as Plague Inc. for more than 20 mins at a time, my Xperia Z gets quite hot.
Maybe it's because the case is glass that it feels more hotter than normal but sometimes it gets too hot that it's uncomfortable to hold in my hands so I have to exit the game and let it cool down for 5 minutes.
Anybody else have this happen to them?

OK, so what phone doesn't get hot after playing games? All phones get hot and tablets also don't worry about it unless the phone is sleeping and its hot.

Noticed mine got damn hot just watching 50mins of video.
Does it suffer from temperature thortling (frames drop down, and overall perfomance down) while hot?
All sony phones had it, im just curious.

There is throttling but it's barely noticeable. The only game that is sometimes affected by it is Rayman Jungle Run, out of all the games I tried.

I was watching a 720p 1.4gig episode of Spartacus last night.
Device got really hot & noticed some frame issues towards the end.
Was playing via MX player & SW encoding due to audio so Bravia wasn't running.
If you use MX Player you should enable the HW+ decoder in settings, it'll allow you to play nearly all video with HW and the audio with SW. Software video decoder is never a good idea.

That i dont like, i am heavy user, and i know xperia s have many problems, but only this one i found bad for me.
:/
If you have unlocked your bootloader, you should try DooMkernel. It lets you undervolt. It did make a difference, albeit a minor one. But then again, mine never gets very hot. The only time it does get hot is when it's charging and I try to run a heavy application. That is definitely normal. Also, the Snapdragon S4 Pro is notorious for high temperatures(as evident from the Nexus 4).
IF the phone gets over 48°C on the back side it start Trotthling!
Throw it in the freezer while you're doing your benchmarks, you'll squeeze a bit more out of it, or go get a job for a supermarket and do all your gaming in the walk-in freezer

AW: Phone runs hot while playing games
As stated, the SoC (Snapdragon S4 Pro) is known to become very hot under load. It has to be considered as normal.
Sony devices are well protected against overheating so dont worry.
I returned my XZ today after 5 hours of use yesterday.
The phone i had got extremely hot while just browsing the menus. I started the phone out of the box(battery was at 62%), ran trough the setup, added gmail, facebook & exchange. The phone was to hot to have next to the ear. Had some problems with exchange so the whole process tok about 30 minutes and the battery ended up at 23%.

Thats true, but it's due to the ****ty qualcomm mpdecision. On the Nexus 4 the overheating issue was fixed after turning it off.
Now that we can root, this should be doable on a personal basis.
That of course is not a fix by the components supplier nor by the manufacturer, but a fix none the less.
mine gets really hot when playing games i mean really hot
Sigh... This is getting frustrating

Hello everyone,
My new brand S5 overheats sometimes. I do nothing special when it overheats. No games, no heavy force on CPU. Even sometimes when it is just on my desk and I pick it up, I feel overheating.
When it overheats, I take battery out for around 5 minutes and then it will be ok for a while. Please help.
I was about to post the same.
My s5 seems to overheat even when not doing some very intensive ( like camera or gamming). Just today, after just using it to visit some webpages, it started to get hot on both the back and the screen.Does anyone else have the same problem of overheating with simple tasks?
I had the same issue with the s3 and i didn't want my next phone to heat up as much as the s3 did
There are a number of existing threads that have discussed this at length. You might want to do a search so that you can read the valuable information in those threads.
In short though, what makes you think your phone is overheating? You didn't give us any information about actual temperatures, app errors (if any) or.. well no information about anything. Give us some more details and we could give you better answers. Most often people have a vague impression that their phone is overheating when it isn't at all. Since we have no information, we dont' know if your phone is or isn't.
.
Thank you for the reply!
Well, it seems to just get too hot from what it seems to be considerable acceptable. I thought it heated up to much and so did some people that used my phone.
I was out today when i noticed it just by browsing the web (not on wifi, just on data and without any app errors), so i didn't get any temperature info but i do have a ir thermometer at home that i will use to get some info on the actual temperature. The rise on the temperature (again, don't know exact values but i will get back on those) was a bit uncomfortable, especially when using the screen that got a bit to hot as well.
Maybe i was expecting the phone to heat less than it does, so maybe its just the way the hardware works since it seems to be reports of excessive heat from phones like the z2 and the m8. Still, i will try get the temperatures when the phone starts to heat up to the same point i have experienced this past days and reply back here to see if its normal.

FWIW, mine tends to get overly hot also. Whether its just the fact that the screen has been on for a good long while texting or web browsing or other mundane tasks. My 2 previous phones, Sprint S3 and Evo 4G (og version) never seemed to get so warm doing so little. Sure its a larger screen than the S3 and more processor horsepower, but its the same screen technology and similar cpu architecture. Doesnt make much sense to me either. And all 3 phones have been in the platinum series cases from best but, similar ventilation and always worn in the hip-clip
You can't have a powerful phone that doesn't produce some heat. And phones of course are too small to have active cooling systems. If you had done a search you'd find that some heat is normal. You're assuming that the phone is overheating when there is no basis for that. You just didn't expect to notice any obvious heat.
You don't need a thermometer, you can install an app e.g. an Xposed module to report the processor temperature. Idle temperatures of ~ 35C are normal. Light load, perhaps 45C, heavy load ~ 65C. And if you are doing something processor intensive e.g. transcoding or some games and have a bulky case that causes your phone to run hot, you might see temperatures approach 80C. There is no (public) published TDP figure for the Snapdragon 800 series, but it's believed to be about 5 W. So these temperatures should not surprise anyone.
Auto shutdown i.e. what the manufacturer considers overheating is I believe 100C. Advances in semiconductor lithography do produce devices that radiate less heat in general but these temperatures are not out of line with other processors e.g. I have measured desktop CPUs that routinely operate as high as 90C.
.
I get like 40 -50 on light usage (browsing, checking mail).. and 60 - 65 on moderate use... and 70 - 75 on heavy use and on bootup.. so it's within the range? but the problem is .. it is not comfortable using such a hot touchscreen... after long use.. my fingers kind of hurt cuz it's too hot... Hei! I think your s5 is dead for a long time. But I have one with the same issue. Do you remember if you fix it somehow?!
I wanted to know if it warms up

I use reasonable and not game
It does not warm up.
Thank you
I mean You're talking on the phone Surf the Internet It does not feel a little warm?
I have another question.Speaker When you make calls The other side Hear you loud and clear?
Essentially all phones warm up, it's because of the GPU/RAM/Processor it's normal for every single phone.
OK
I understand that. still Can you tell me feel a little warm?
MY MOTO G. NO little warm
That's why I ask. can you run please cpu z and tell me what the temperature of the battery
Thank you very much for your time
I've had mine for a month or so. I cant remember it getting warm. Maybe while playing ingress, but it was a warm sunny day, so harf to tell...
OK
Okay I just can not stand it warms up. I guess I'll have to go see for myself
Thank you
It does not warm up under normal conditions. It may get a bit warm if you play a video on YouTube for several minutes for example but not when surfing.
Mine gets quite hot if you play a movie.
If you use it for some time, yes it warms up.
OK

Not at all (not yet), surprisingly. It's a plus point for this phone. I've used the Galaxy S3, Xperia Z1C, and an old Nexus one, LG G pad, Tab pro 8.4 and they all get hot at some point like using GPS or Google earth.
I have recorded over 15 minite 4K video with it and it had medium warmup but never cracked up.
YES
It is known that it gets hot you take 4K Picture
But it's not so bad. As long as I hope not surfing the web and During a call
I personally do not care if it gets hot If you play the games Or shooting 4K
That I do not use it at all. Maybe 4K But probably no more than 10 minutes
Talk and surf is the most important For me anyway
Anyone who bought the Phone Can do testing and help to know better
Can download cpu-z Check temperatureand
Thanks to everyone that you are helping people

Yes when 4k recording mine gave up after 11 min and was really hot but when browsing not at all, when calling neither. When doing cpu intensive tasks or when charging you can feel some heat but it doesn't burn your fingers ?
Well if it hits up just cool it with some water haha.
i have had several android phones and nothing beats the z3c. i constantly play 1 - 2 hours online game and drains almost 50% or so battery but the heat is minimal.
Its a powerful phone , squeezed down to the compact form , will it heat up .. yes, does the glass conduct heat better , yes, will it cool down , yes.
Hey guys,
Everybody knows the snapdragon 810 runs too hot, and quick charging doesn't help. But with this year's hot summer it's getting to a point where I can barely use my phone because it's throttling and what's worse, it can't even charge correctly because the battery is too hot. It's just crazy, it's topping off at 300mA with a battery at 39°C, and if I put the phone in the fridge it's charging at 2.8A again.
So my question is: how do you guys cool it down? I can't be the only one in this situation. I'm to the point where I could try a gentle hack like a USB powered fridge you could put under the case, or something similarly ridiculous.
Any ideas?

Time your charging to your commute, with a vent-mounted clip, AC blasting it. I've done that with my Note4 "optimizing" apps, even while charging, phone's ice cube cold.
Also, charging any Lithium battery under high temperatures shortens its lifespan. Not a big deal with a removable battery, but with the 6P you want to avoid that as much as you can.
Funny, I did that with the note 4 too (did nobody tell you that flashing while driving is dangerous? ^^)
The thing is now I commute by bike. Anyway, I charge the n6p at least twice a day (sigh) so that would still be a problem.
Also, I forgot to mention it but of course the loss of longevity associated with overheating is what worries me most.
To be honest i never recognized this and the lifetime is for me not a killer feature anymore,
i know ill buy every two years a new phone (even if i try not to ).
Its so hot in your room?
Well I'm definitely not buying a phone to keep it more than a year / a year and a half either. But the thing is a hot battery may die on you very quickly. My note 4 battery died after 8 months (quick charge and QI charge cooked it). But it was removable...
And it's not *that* hot in here, but you can reach 30°C inside so it's fairly easy to get a 40°C battery.
I usually keep my (naked) 6P on a slate or marble surface while it's charging, so that the good conductivity and high thermal capacity of the surface completely absorbs the generated heat. My phones battery is about 30-31° with 28° room temperature.
Also, I rarely charge it with its bundled charger, and use a 1.2A one whenever I'm not in a hurry
Skickat från min Nexus 6P via Tapatalk
I also keep mine on a cool granite floor while doing a full charge and it keeps it a little cooler!
I used a ice pack whenever I wipe the dalvik and cache and the phone has to optimize all my apps. Ice pack keep the back of the phone cold, i avoid resting it on the camera though.. don't want to risk cracking.
Mine gets warm to the touch but you guys really have phones that get so hot you feel you need to actively cool them? That seems, well, a little over the top...

Same here. Just a bit warmer when optimizing apps, but that happens once a month (when I install google updates)
The rest of the time is just a bit warmer, when heavily used.
I've had the 6P for 3 months now and I've experienced zero overheating or the need to cool it down. Does it get warm? Yes when playing games or running many apps like any phone would but I never have to do something like that and go out of my way to bring it down, just let it sit and it cools itself.
I feel your pain. LA has been warm lately and my apt is usually a few degrees warmer than it is outside. My 6P is burning up sometimes.
My solution has been to use a 3D printed phone stand that I have (I'm sure most phone stands would help) and place it front of a small desk fan that I have while it charges. I noticed that it gets most hot when it's charging and lying flat on a surface (desk, my bed, etc.), so I prop it up in the stand and that seems to help.

Yep, I'm tempted to do that when it's really too hot but I'm afraid it could to as much damage as too much heat. Definitely works though. It's just fun to watch the amps go back up in the Ampere app when the phone is cooling down.
I run the phone in Hexamode (core 6 & 7 offline). Seems to help keep the phone temps lower. No real life performance impact. The reduced number of cores won’t adversely affect performance, as Android, and the majority of its apps, still aren’t optimised, nor demanding enough to need octa-core power. Give it a try!

It all depends on your ambient temperature. Battery capacity is notably reduced over time if it experiences temperatures over 35°C, and since the 6P is not that easy to take apart it is worth finding a solution to keep the battery cool.
The room temperature can easily be over 30°C in most places during summer, therefore it is common for batteries to overheat while charging.

Low temperatures cannot cause any permanent harm to batteries instead. They might temporarily shorten battery life, but it is always good for batteries to be stored in cold environments (they are kept at around 8°C in labs to maximize their endurance).
So no problem from this point of view! just avoid condensation of humidity, which can actually kill your phone

If anyone is worried about heat definitely don't create a backup in TWRP with compression on lol. I have a lot of data so it takes a while and wow does it get hot. I'd imagine thermal throttling is shut off while in twrp so the cpu just blasts away full speed.

Very interesting, thanks! Here in summer we are always between 25 and 35°C, and my battery is at least at 37°C (idle phone in the morning). So I'm pretty much guaranteed to destroy my battery
I live in place where in summer the avg temp is 40°c so it is hot and if i use outdoors i can definetly feel my device is warm even in my pocket
Also whenever it throttles i just keep it untouched for about 5 to 10 mins and it gets relatively cool again
Cheers

my device only gets warm when its in direct sunlight, otherwise its staying pretty cool, ive had some people in our groups talk about it too but what ive seen people say none had the issues you said, that sounds pretty serious, maybe ask around in our group, its in my signature

I use my phone plenty. My wife uses here S9 a WHOLE LOT. Neither of us have heat issues. I am pretty confident that it is because they are not Exynos based phones as it seems most (If not all) in this thread that are complaining about heat are Exynos phone owners.
Exynos based model here, heat is very reasonable especialy when I keep my good old s5+ in mind. During light tasks like whatsapp twitter or watching video's the phone doesn't noticbilly warm up. Browsing the web (for a long time) and some 2D Games make the phone heating up a little but nothing special. Playing some graphicly heavy games does warm the device up but I've so far even with longer gaming sesions never got my peformance dropped signicantly. It just kept peforming like it should. in contrary to my old galaxy s5 which would throttle it's gpu clock within 10 (mostly within 5!) minutes of playing a graphicly intensive game. The device would become very hot. Altough this one can also generate quite some heat if you really push it, but holds up way better with prolonged gaming sessions peformance wise. Really can't complain about it.

I use my phone plenty. My wife uses here S9 a WHOLE LOT. Neither of us have heat issues. I am pretty confident that it is because they are not Exynos based phones as it seems most (If not all) in this thread that are complaining about heat are Exynos phone owners.

Don't worry, I was just joking with you. But glad to hear you're not unlucky with the heat problems and most likely a Snapdragon user.

Ya, we are indeed rocking Snapdragon models. It really makes me wonder why Samsung even bothers with the Exynos. They either screw them up or don't support them or don't include LTE support (S3) and so on and so on...
I had my phone overheat once, to the point it's really burning to touch. It happened just awhile ago while outside and installing the gcam port which they said has working portrait mode, I tried it, it does not fc but it does not get the job done, and it only makes my phone lag. I guess the overheat came from that gcam and the outside environment. I couldnt help but restart my phone, now everything works normal again. S9 Exy.
Experiencing some heat issues recently . Restarted my phone and wipe cache partition everything works fie now.
very good phone with good quality

Yes, it also work for me!
Thanks
thanks sir
Mine usually heats up after a few mins of using Snapchat. I don’t play games so can’t comment on them.
Well, the heat exist only because you have hot weather like me here @ Greece. Today with 34 Celsius without A/C. the device was untouched.. after the first update (i buy it today lol)
But i use it 5-6 hours all the time with 4g open, facebook, messenger, instagram, a lot of videos and photos and device was perfect without heat or something..
Btw i left from my home at 19:00 with 86% battery and i came home with 14% at 23:00 I think it's perfect.

Same thing happened with me today after installing the gcam mod, restarting phone helps, everything became normal again... Also S9 Exynos user.
I'm a heavy gamer (Exynos Version). The phone heats up to 43 degrees Celsius (109.4 fahrenheit) when playing for about half an hour.
Why? Because in the middle east the temperature is already 36 degrees Celsius right now.
