We wanted one remote to be able to turn on/off the TV, change inputs and volume, and control the Shield. Never had a problem until the 8.0 upgrade, now the "Enter" button is not accepted by the Hulu app. The arrow buttons work, the Enter button works in other apps, and Hulu accepts Enter from the NVIDIA remote, but for some reason Hulu does not like the Enter button on this particular remote.
This is what we're using:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CL3ZXGO/
IR setup is:
Power -> TV Power
Red -> TV Input
Yellow -> TV Volume Down
Blue -> TV Volume Up
The other buttons are non-IR and talk to the Shield.
I found an app that can remap the enter button for a price, but I was wondering if there are any free solutions available? In my opinion this is a bug, and I don't want to pay if Hulu is going to fix the bug.
If u press the home button and the back button together the tv is gone off with the shield same time u most have to setup your tv to be control with shiel remote

Once you install CM10.1 on your Q, one vexing problem is how you get the power menu to show up.
I discovered that if I push the "hibernate" button (picture of a moon on it) on my Logitech wireless keyboard, that brings up the power menu. I have no idea what the usual keyboard equivalent would be (or even if there is one) if you don't have this key on your keyboard. However, it's certainly a useful thing to have.
I ended up just using a widget that adds shutdown / restart icons to my home screen. I wonder if I have a key combo I can pull up on my Rii i6 remote that will trigger that menu
I've been using Droidmote server (on the Q) and Droidmote client on my phone/tablet and it has a power button on the controller with arrows (page 2 in the client app). Droidmote has been working pretty well for me, but it has some minor issues that make it a little bit of a pain in the ass. It's still the most usable solution I've found yet.
I personally manage to get it from a Logitech keyboard, by pushing the "User" touch (left corner).
Other thing, how you restart the Q with CM 10.1 after shut it down? I haven't figured out yet so I always have to unplug/plug it..
Thanks!
I use Button Savior to bring up the power menu.

Maybe you know about this maybe you don't, I dunno!
So I stumbled upon this by accident, once and a while whenever I would grab my remote Kodi would pause. I wondered what was happening. Turns out (at least in Kodi) that if you double tap the volume bar on the Shield remote it will pause Kodi and another double tap will play
Ever since I got the shield I have turned off the volume control as it being extremely annoying when picking up the remote upside down the volume would always go crazy. So Mine is not acting as a volume control.
Hello all,
I have been looking for a non-root way to access the system power menu from Kodi. The closest thing I have been able to find so far is in this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tv/themes-apps/alternate-launcher-root-marshmallow-t3359076
The thread talks about the com.android.tv.settings.Power.Settings.Activity which sounds like what I am after (although I think it is actually com.android.tv.settings.system.PowerSettingsActivity on my system). I attempted to create a shortcut with the App Shortcut Maker but it would not open the power menu, I'm guessing it needs root.
I also attempted to define a custom submenu item for my skin in Kodi using StartAndroidActivity("com.android.tv.settings.Power.Settings.Activity") as well as StartAndroidActivity("com.android.tv.settings.system.PowerSettingsActivity") and StartAndroidActivity("com.android.tv.settings.powermenu") and several other variations but none of these things worked.
My main motivation for this is to power off/on my TV and receiver with the Shield remote. Accessing the power menu and selecting "Sleep Now" not only put's the Shield into sleep mode but it also powers off my TV and receiver and powers them on when waking up. Long pressing the BACK button on the home screen of the leanback launcher opens the power menu but this only works on the home screen and not while inside an app such as Kodi. Pressing the BACK and HOME buttons on the remote simultaneously toggles the power on my TV, which works anywhere including from Kodi, but it does not toggle the power for my receiver.
Putting the device into sleep mode works perfectly but I would like to do this from Kodi and Kodi can not do it directly. Is there any way to access the power menu without root?
Alternatively, is there a way to remap they keys on the Shield remote so that the power menu can be accessed from any application?
Hello friends,
I think the TV has Android 9.0 installed - I'm not so sure.
It is this device: Telefunken XU50AJ600 (Amazon)
In any case, due to the small amount of RAM (4GB), I should not only have deactivated but also uninstalled apparently important apps.
The television boots and then the picture remains black - you can still visibly change the volume and click on Mute. Every now and then a message appears in the upper right corner that the memory is running out (I installed Kodi with a large list of films).
If I click the button for YouTube on the remote control, the screen briefly turns light gray and then turns black again.
Since I only use the television 100% with a streaming app, I unfortunately cannot say whether a normal television image (T2 / S2 / Cable) would be running in the background.
Now I would like to completely reset the television - but I can't get into the menu.
Now I have already tried a few things I found about the recovery mode, but I did not get into the recovery mode with any solution.
The television only has one physical button (power).
My approach was:
1) Disconnect the television from the power supply
2) Simultaneously press the “OK” and “Back” buttons on the remote control and also press the physical power button on the television.
3) Provide power to the TV.
2 people press these three buttons all the time. The red LED on the physical power button flashes, but nothing else happens - the television doesn't even turn on.
I suspect it's not the right keyboard shortcut.
I hope someone can help me.
Thank you very much
BR
Werner
Hi everyone, I'm using a mini wirless keyboard on a TCL android TV, the keyboard is one of those cheap that seems like a joypad with RGB retroillumination colors, I'm having a strange issue with the OK button, during a normal selection action it works well to give confirm command, but it cannot works as ENTER after texted something, also the ENTER button can't works as Enter command, so I must to keep enabled the virtual keyboard on the bottom of the screen and click on the virtual ENTER button to get the ENTER command... I've seen the same issue on this video at 7:00 minute, same keyboard as me..
is there a way to fix this? maybe it needs a driver? tnx bye
does anyone use anykind of keyboard with his android TV? does the ENTER button work porperly after texting something?
Logitech K400, same issue. Enter key won't act as it does on Windows
I'm going to get one, but still havent decided if I really need it and which one.
Connect your phone to the same Wi-Fi as your Android TV device, open the app, and choose "Accept & Continue." Select your television or set-top box from the list and enter the PIN which appears on your TV. On Android smartphones, whenever you select a text field, the keyboard will automatically appear. If you want to reset the wireless keyboard, follow the below mentioned steps-
Turn off your keyboard.
With the keyboard turned off, hold down the ESC key.
While holding down the ESC key, turn on your keyboard.
After about 5 seconds, release the ESC key. You will see the keyboard lighting flash if the reset is successful.
