I have a very annoying problem when I update the oxygen to Android 9, the display dies. You can see that the phone is working because it vibrates, only the screen turns black. This also happens with custom ROM. I am stuck on Android 8 without being able to upgrade, neither with the official ROM nor with the custom. Can someone help me? Remembering my handset is the OnePlus 5.
* When returning to Android 8 the display works normally.

I already did the update via OTA and the same happens, I don't know what else to do, I've tried several things, so you have an idea, even TWRP to pass the ROM pie leaves the black screen.

Come on, I'm using the TWRP-3.2.3-X _ Blu_spark_v 9.85 _treble
I'm at the last Oos Oreo official
Latest version of Magisk
It's decrypted
I have restored the device, with bootloader lock and without root and I left updating via OTA, it updates normally, when the Pie update arrives, normal updates and when restarts the screen turns black, you know it is working by the vibration of the cell, but the Screen is always black.

You did not follow the instructions for dirty flash and the warnings in the twrp download section. Twrp 3.3.x requires pie firmware. You have Oreo, hence you need to flash pie rom first, then you can update your twrp. That's the issue the screen turns black, which is common.

Today I wanted to install the lineage os, but, to ensure, I installed the stock rom in my moto g4 plus.
I wiped dalvik, system, data and cache.
Then I flashed the rom and the gapps, but when I did the reboot the cell phone was in an infinite loop, but not normal, the bootanimation of the lineage appears but it never stops.
what do I do??

Thanks, can I ask what region/what device you have as well? I'm just wondering if that's the correct stock firmware for your device/region. Did you let your device update on OTA before flashing the LineageOS build? Are you able to roll back to a backup of your Marshmallow installation?
Also, there's a newer version of TWRP available: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...covery-twrp-3-0-2-r3-moto-g4-g4-plus-t3494337 Might be worth looking into installing given the TWRP version you've installed hasn't been maintained in a while. TWRP 3.0.3n2 is a good option to go for, since it's running stably for me.
Finally, though some bugs appear to have been fixed in the latest Lineage OS nightlies, might be worth using the 13/02 build (or robot_head's suggestion of the unofficial Lineage OMS ROM) to rule out any issues with the ROM, until at least we can get your phone booting again with a custom ROM.

I think that's the correct stock firmware because I already installed it before and there wasn't bugs .
The problem is I can't rool back to a backup because I can't access de TWRP or use the fastboot.
Thank you for helping me, I was able to access TWRP when my battery ran out, which interrupted the loop

Hmm, so what happens if you power off your phone by pressing the power button for 2-3 [edit: minutes] (credit: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70973812&postcount=5), as this may cause a hard reset and possibly break the bootloop?
What do you mean by fastboot not beng useable, as in your device does not show up in ADB or that you cannot boot into fastboot?
Alternatively, are you able to access the bootloader/fastboot mode by powering off, then holding down the power and volume down keys? If so, you may be able to re-flash your stock ROM as before.

I said I could not use fastboot because I was stuck on the Lineage loading screen
It was like if the boot animation was infinite, then when I tried to use the fastboot the cell phone was not recognized.
But the "loop" stopped when the battery ran out, so I was able to initialize the TWRP

So you're back into TWRP now? Okay, are you restoring your backup or re-flashing your stock ROM? I'd like to check your device can boot normally again and is up to date before trying again with the custom ROM.
By the way, I made an error in my last post - I miswrote how long you hold the power button down for, it's 2-3 minutes and should achieve the same as when your battery ran out - allowing you to boot back into TWRP.

I've re-flashed the stock rom and it's working well
For those that didn't receive the update yet, I've requested the links to the Wileyfox nougat support team, so here you can download the incremental, recovery and fastboot images of the latest upgrade TOS118C.
RECOVERY IMAGE (2GB) (works neat in TWRP as well as in Cyanogen Recovery / does not necessarily require open bootloader)
FASTBOOT IMAGE (2GB) (requires open bootloader)
INCREMENTAL UPDATE (OFFICIAL) (DRIVE MIRROR LINK by me) (from TOS089A to TOS118C / from decf3a575d to aa4d5d86bc)
In the post below you can have some information on how to grab OTA links from the WileyFox BSP server. Have fun, and don't forget to debloat your system
How to grab the official OTA from BSP's server
In the OP, I left a link to the official incremental update right from the OTA server (which I'll talk about a bit later). If you directly click it, it will return an Error 404, but that is not true since the file actually exists... But requires a special HTTP header to be visible.
Since I wanted to grab the OTA link now that, for once, I finally got an OTA in this phone after always upgrading through fastboot images, I used wireshark to determine the server where it fetches it and the full file route. It turns out the header sends a special UA string as you can see in the picture attached: rsotaua 1.0, which is, most probably, a randomly generated string.
Now here's the thing: if you want to switch the UA you'll need an extension to do so. I've used this one. As soon as it's installed, go to the Options of the extension and add it like here:
Code:
WILEYFOX rsotaua 1.0 Chrome Replace WF
Once the string is inserted, switch to it and hit the URL. The OTA should be downloadable now.
... Or you can just wait til someone mirrors it, like I already did
Lastly, as a side note, I'd also like to comment the following, regarding BSP:
Wileyfox's devices software is now in charge of this company, called BSP.ninja and that clearly defines themselves as a company to "launch an Android device without knowing where to start". It's said to be formed by former Cyanogen employees, or, at least Ricardo Cerqueira @aremcee (which btw, is also in charge of the Open Source code available in BitBucket for the Wileyfox devices), since he's the owner of the domain. In any case, what I want to say is that the code is being done quite possibly by the very same people that did the job at the now dead Cyanogen, so it shouldn't be a reason to worry. Also, it'd be awesome if the team released a working device tree so that the community could bring custom ROMs just like you (the team) used to do.

Correct. I'm preparing a new version of my debloater tool, and I'll briefly explain in it's thread how to move from TOS089A to TOS118C without losing anything in rooted and/or debloated devices. Stay tuned!
Well....I must say, that every "update" from Wileyfox shows me that it's the worst phone to update I've ever owned.
I can't proceed any update (OTA of course not, recovery via TWRP) on my rooted + some skin parts changed via substratum Swift 2 without wiping everything.

I also skin my phone through substratum (the default orange theme is disgusting), I use magisk and plenty of other tools both systemless or even require modifying the system partition (like Wileyfox debloater), and, using the instructions I wrote in this post here I've found no single problem upgrading my device from a debloated, rooted and themed TOS089A to TOS118C to then debloat, root and theme it again. It's true you will need to install your substratum themes again, but the rest should work perfect.
I've tried the recovery update on my Swift 2X but can't get it to boot. I have TWRP installed (3.1.0-0) and it's rooted via SuperSU. Do I have to unroot first?
Edit for more info: I did the OTA upgrade from the stock CyanogenOS ROM to 7.1.1 TOS089A. Then I installed TWRP and flashed SuperSU. The OTA to TOS118C predictably doesn't work. Flashing the recovery image via TWRP seems to go fine but I'm stuck at the white "Wileyfox powered by Android" screen. Tried wiping Cache/Dalvik but no dice.
Edit 2: flashing Magisk afterwards seems to make it work.
I try to install the ZIP via TWRP and after the process ends the phone reboots but it remains stuck at the "WileyFox" white screen.
EDIT: I tried the fastboot one and it worked. Sometimes is hard to understand our devices
I'm guessing it's some kind of dm-verity issue? Flashing in TWRP worked for me when I flashed Magisk 12.0 afterwards, which seems to take care of dm-verity. Linuxct suggested installing Magisk in his debloat thread and I thought "what's the harm". Now I'm a happy camper.
Yes indeed, it appears a dm-verity issue message. Actually, I managed to install 7.1 from fastboot, but then this flash restores the original recovery. If I try to install again TWRP it stuck again on the WileyFox white screen. I'll try installing Magisk.
Edit: flashed Magisk, all works. Awesome.

Yes it will. Anything for the swift 2 will work on the plus because the only difference between them is ram and storage size.

Hello everyone,
For a while now, I have been delaying this, because I can't afford to lose the content that I have on this device
I have a Oneplus 5 OxygenOS 5.1.4 release that I can't install. Everytime I do, it just fails, and reboot. A while after, I have a new notification telling me that the update is available
My phone is not rooted but I think the bootloader is unlocked. TWRP isn't installed either
Is there any way for me to easily update my phone witout risks of losing what I have on it ? Might be a dumb question, but I'm a huge noob

Do you get the bootloader unlock warning message at boot? Is the device new or used? You want to update from 5.1.4 to 5.1.5 with ota right? Does the ota download 1.7GB or detect root before downloading?
Hello strongst and thanks for your answer
The phone is old but it's always been mine. I rooted it a while back but I reinstalled everything, which is why the bootloader is unlocked even tho the phone isn't rooted.
I do have the warning message when I boot
I'm trying to update with OTA indeed. When I do so, it downloads the update, reboots, and then I get this :
"Instaling, please wait..." and a few seconds after "Installation failed"
Then I just rebot the phone and everything is back to its initial state

I'm guessing it downloads partial ota and not a full rom like about 1,7GB so the update fails. In case you have twrp you can easily download the 5.1.5 FULL zip from here and flash it https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/how-to/oneplus-5-mirrors-official-oxygen-os-t3628190
I am sorry that my answer wasn't complete.
- I do have the bootloader message
- The device is a year old, but only used by me
- It's trying to download 5.1.4 OTA which is 1609MB. It downloads everything and tries to install it
- No root is detected
- I don't have TWRP on the phone
Thanks for your answers
Best way it simply install latest TWRP like Sian, do a dirty flash with the full OOS Rom package (5.1.7) for force update.
1/ Do a full backup of your data / sms / pictures on your computer (just for be sure, you must always backup for big changes, especially with encrypted roms)
2/ install TWRP Sian
3/ On TWRP > Wipe > Dalvik/ART - Cache paritions
4/ Install > the latest stable OOS 5.1.7 Rom
5/ Just after that flash Magisk (if you want keep the custom recovery) or don't flash Magisk (stock recovery will erase TWRP after SetupWizard)
Hello Pho3nX, thanks for your answer.

So, after buying my OP5, I rooted it and pretty much left it at that. Haven't accepted any OTA updates out of laziness and not wanting to reroot. After 2 years, I decided to finally update. Went and did a nandroid backup, then looked to flash the latest version of the OTA update. Got an error that said something along the lines of "file is for 'Oneplus 5' but device is ' ' ".
Did some googling and saw people recommend a newer version of TWRP, so I went and downloaded and flashed it through TWRP. When I tried to reboot into recovery, nothing happened. Black screen and a permanent bluish-white notification light. Was still able to hard shutdown and boot back into regular OS. Tried to flash via the TWRP app and adb - same result both times, black screen + notification light.
Does anyone know how to restore my recovery and get the OTA update to flash properly? Any help is massively appreciated.

Oh, I recommend to backup everything with titanium backup and Google along with local backups of your internal storage.
OTA is really not a convenient way and you'll face issues so my recommendation is to clean flash if you want to save time.
Hi,
I bought a oneplus 5 phone because I was told it was going to be easy to install Lineage OS. I have try to install Lineage OS 16 on it for 2 days without success.
The first issue i had was installing twrp. Most of the twrp available did not worked with my phone. After flashing them with fastboot and reboot to recovery I would end up with a black screen and the the blue led turn on.
However I did find two TWPRs that work:
- twrp-3.2.1-1-cheeseburger.img
- twrp-3.2.3-0-20180822-codeworkx-cheeseburger.img
There might be other that would work, but this are the ones that I have tested.
After being able to boot to TWRP I try to flash the firmware 9.06 with success. Without reboot I flash lineage without success. I try to reboot and the system did not worked and I never reboot.
After a while I found a OxygenOS 4.5.10 that I hope is the stock rom. I has the following sha256sum: 7a8268f6a133f090a2d304aad2f92393aefbd4df34a6c2ed088909aaf7ccc2dd
That did worked and give me a breath. At least I had a working phone now. However I try to update and it did not worked.
From there I have been strugling with this project to install Lineage OS in my new phone. I know there are guides out there, but most of them did not work or are outated. There ara also threads in this forums, but are to big to try to follow. So I start this one, hopefully you can help me.
It would be great if there is a step by step guide on how to run Lineage OS in this phone.
Best,

Hi,
I bought a oneplus 5 phone because I was told it was going to be easy to install Lineage OS.

Hello, seems that you did not follow the installation instructions within the official LineageOS thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/development/rom-lineageos-16-0-pie-oneplus-5-t3843064
Your issues are clearly missed or skipped steps.
Please follow the instructions there and if you get stuck, report back with detailed information :good:
Thanks a lot for your quick response. It do have an issue with that guide and it is with point 1:crying::crying:
- Make sure your phone was running OxygenOS 5.1.4 at least once

I have OxygenOS 4.5.10 and it does not upgrade to OxygenOS 5.1.4. What happened, is that in my first attempts to get this thing working I brick the phone and loose the stock firmware. Then I found this rom that allow me to use the phone (OxygenOS 5.1.4)
OnePlus5Oxygen_23_OTA_015_all_1708252353_f05918.zip
sha256: 7a8268f6a133f090a2d304aad2f92393aefbd4df34a6c2ed088909aaf7ccc2dd
It make the phone usable, but not upgradable. I doubt is the original, but I found the link on the Oneplus forums. (I can not post links because I am too new here)
After that I search for a ROM that comes with 5.1.4 and was really happy, and try to flash. It did not work, it is like it tries to boot, but never finish booting. I wait at least for 10 minutes. This the file and the sha256 hash:
OnePlus5Oxygen_23_OTA_037_all_1807181258_7b4b6.zip
sha256 2bb2e21a43572ac4bd2e5d1d30a3fb7562ddec280df3d452d61f58a4a8135f14
So I guess my first step would to find a way to get Oneplus 5.1.4 working. When I first try to upgrade the phone, I upgrade it from OxygenOS and it worked, however then I mess things and brick the phone. I found the rom that allow the phone to work (4.5.10), but for some reason the upgrades do not.
Thank you very much for your time.

You need to clean flash oxygenOS 5.1.4, then take ota update to 9.0.7 so you have the latest firmware.
Clean flash means that you need to wipe system, data, cache and format internal storage too.
So please backup everything off your device at first!
Everything you need you find here on xda, like the roms https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/how-to/oneplus-5-mirrors-official-oxygen-os-t3628190

Finally I had time to work on this. The rom for 5.1.4 is: OnePlus5Oxygen_23_OTA_037_all_1807181258_7b4b6.zip, that I already tried and never boots . With twrp it seems that the Rom is installed, with the stock recovery the installation never ends. I am going to try with other ROMS. Hopefully one of them would allow updates.
I am going to start with the newest 5.1.7, and if that does not work would keep going down.
Thanks again.

5.1.7 did not boot, however I have some progress. I installed 4.5.12, I was previously at 4.5.10, so my android setup security patch levels went from July 2017 to to September 2017. Small step forward.
I have have that hypothesis that it would work with 4.x.x versions and not with 5.x.x versions. Tomorrow I would try to flash the latest 4.x.x and the earliest 5.x.x to see when does this things stop working.
I did the tests and I can flash up to 4.5.15. I tried to flash 5.0 and that did not worked. It flashes correctly, but it never finish booting, I waited up to 10 minutes.
So there is something preventing the phone to use version 5.x.x Should I try upgrading the firmware? Other ideas?

Please give detailed steps what you did including file versions. Otherwise I cannot help further.
Every oxygenOS version has firmware built in, no need to update it seperately.
Follow this:
1 flash this recovery with fastboot like the first time https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UlTftbe6wooAs4Fp0cjwXlOKmfQHgdfL/view?usp=drivesdk
2 boot the new twrp recovery
3 flash magisk 18.1 to make twrp stick
4 FORMAT internal storage(not wipe only) and wipe system and data partition
5 transfer oxygenOS 5.1.4 to the phone and flash it
6 boot oxygenOS 5.1.4 and take ota update to tg and latest OxygenOS(9.0.7 actually.
7 now you're on the latest OxygenOS and firmware version
Thank you very much, now I am with LineageOS
