[Q] Google Now Cards Missing - Unable to Activate

Hi,
Recently upgraded to kitkat 4.4 and cannot activate Google Now. I go into Google Now and it just shows the search and nothing else
(No Cards). I also cannot activate it from the settings menu. I am currently located in China but it works fine for my Galaxy Nexus.
Any Ideas? I've tried factory reset and re-flashing the factory image. Also of course erasing the data and cache from Google Search.
Regards,
Bobbie
Same here
Same problem here! Please post if you find out how to fix ths. I'm also based in China now.

Check your "Google Settings" - is Google Now turned OFF ?
Go to Settings, Account & look under your Google Account - Syncs ON ?
Hi,
In my google settings there is no reference to Google now! o.o I'm sure it was there before updating...
Also, yes, all the sync is turned on under my Google account in the settings menu.
Is it possible that google now is simply not availiable in China? I updated my Nexus with a chinese sim card inside, this time.

Stock roms & kernels (or minimal modifications} ??
Access to Google's server from China (and the lack of) is one likely reason - even if the Apps are working & functioning, including location reporting since authorities do filter broadband traffic.
Can you access weather reports for Beijin, Guangzhou & Hong Kong via Google Now and/or via Google Search on the stock Chrome Browser? If it is working, those Now "cards" should be filled & showing up like ours here in the USA.
The stock KitKat 4.4 roms all have these apps, unless they are somehow remotely disabled and/or blocked - reasons for why we use Hangouts with ease while folks on the other half of the world are using WeChat instead ...
The solution requires a rooted phone.
Install Nova launcher and titanium backup.
Download the apk for Google Search 2.6.xx. You can find this easily.
Use titanium backup to uninstall Google search. This is why you have to install Nova. Otherwise you won't have a launcher.
Install Google search 2.6. You will be asked if you want to use Google now. Press yes.
Go to the Google play store and update to latest Google search. Now google now cards will be enabled. That's it. Kind of a pain but the only way to do it in China as far as I know. Hope this helps.

[Q] Google Wallet odd error.

So I have scoured the internetz for the same problem I am having and I cannot seem to find it. So I guess ill ask here.
1. I rooted my phone and installed TWRP
2. Tap pay was not working so I uninstalled google wallet, cleared the cash and data and re-installed.
3. Authorized tap pay and now the wallet app is working fine.
4. Problem.. It does NOT activate when I use the NFC at the register. Nothing happens.
I have also tested NFC. All other NFC functions are working properly, but when I pas the NFC by the reader at the register it does not activate the google wallet app and request the pin.
I am completely boggled. I meen I love google walled but I love TiBu even more.. soooo and theories?
Thank you in advanced.
P.S. Yes, I have used wallet at the same location previously to rooting my phone. It is not there reader. There reader actually buzzes as if it detected my phone but no info was received.
- Google Wallet is a fickle thing and editing certain system files after rooting will disable its NFC abilities, most notably build.prop.
- If your phone is locked, you have to unlock it before tapping the retail reader. My phone is almost always in my hand so I'm unlocked with Google Wallet already open past the pin screen.

[Q] SPH-720T NFC Secure Element Tap to Pay google wallet

I was wondering if anyone knew if the triband version of the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4 had the nfc secure element?
I went as far as getting the modded google wallet and nfc fix to be able to get tap to pay to show in wallet.
When I try to set up tap to pay it gives me NfcSetupFailure : 1 as the error.
Anyone else have success on the triband version using tap to pay? I understand if it doesn't have a secure element its a waste of time until kitkat comes out. Honestly that's really the only feature of kitkat I want so if I could figure out how to do that I wouldn't be worried about the update
Just tried my new T series, and no Tap and Pay....looks like no Secure Element access here.
Here's to KK on the new phone.

my suggestion:
Clear play store and google play service data
Go back to play store and uncheck the setting see if the problem still here
Got certain app wen they update they will automatic add icon to homescreen itself (eg: TTPOD)

[Q] google wallet tap and pay after ota lollipop update?

For those who have taken the OTA update to Lollipop, is there a way to get tap and pay / tap and go working with Google Wallet? If so, I can't find it.
I have found instructions for checking for tap and pay capability in KitKat Settings, but Lollipop Settings screens have changed and I can't find any reference to tap and go.
I have been doing some reading about the tap and pay problem. Apparently Google Wallet relies on something called "Host Control Emulation" for tap and go capability, but this is not supported by our NFC chipsets. But I was hoping that Lollipop would fix this - either by Google Wallet using another means to work with the NFC chipset, or by updated NFC drivers.
Where did u find something for kit Kat and it works?
Sent from my SM-N900V using XDA Free mobile app
I didn't find how to get it to work in gn3 - just found instructions on how to check for the capability on a device running Kitkat. The instructions are as follows:
To see if you can tap and pay with your Android device, follow these steps:
Go to your phone's Settings.
Touch More settings.
Make sure NFC is turned On.
Go back to Settings.
.
Check for a "Tap and Pay" option in the menu.
If you can see the "Tap and Pay" option in the menu, you can Tap and Pay with your device.
But these instructions are no good for Lollipop - there is no "More settings" option.
I knew that Google Wallet tap and pay would not work on the GN3 running Kitkat - I was hoping that the problem would be fixed with the update to Lollipop. Either it's not fixed, or I haven't found out how to enable or activate it.
I found a good thread discussing the problem - and the OP was asking the same thing - would the problem be fixed when Lollipop was released. He had lots of links explaining the problem: It does seem that Google could fix the problem if wanted to.
