After hearing that the desire doesn't support metamorph I want to know, how would you apply a theme to the desire without metamorph? AFAIK metamorph only replaces updated files, like the png's that we change in a theme. So can a similar thing be achieved in recovery? Or is the only solution to get a rom, copy the theme over, and then flash? I only ask because I want to test nexus themes on desire (vanilla).
Thanks you for any answers.
P.S. This forum rocks socks!
I was just going to post the same question
What a coincidence
You will have to manually edit framework-res.apk and sign it...

push it to device using adb
Oh, so if I released a theme, which modifies every apk known to google, I would manually have to push every apk to the phone? could I do something like cp /system/* /system/
would that work?
If you want to publish it, update.zip is the way to go. You need to create file structure indentical to one you want to flash into a rom, write a script and sign it.
You can find more about it in the general android section...
Cool, thanks.

Android programs are compiled into*.dex(Dalvik Executable) files, which are in turn zipped into a single*.apk*file on the device..dex*files can be created by automatically translating compiled applications written in the Java programming language.
In one sentence:
If you wanna use custom themes and mods you have to deodex your ROM.

There is a PC program called "LBD" you can find it by searching "LBD" on the XDA website.
If you dont have any knowledge don't try using it because you need to extract the firmware or copy apps from phone to PC and then make a flashable script to delete old apps and place the new ones.
I recommend you to use a custom rom.

Anyone know of a working smaller navbar mod (not using xposed) that works on MHC19I ? or able to point me in the direction of guide that allows me to attempt to make one myself ?
Looking to stay stock+rooted, rather than a custom rom.
TIA
EDIT - I've modified framework-res.apk for MHC19I - Grab it here. Mod changes navbar to 24 instead of 48 height.
* Backup your original /system/framework-res.apk and replace it with the download.
I'd recommend to flash resurrection remix rom where you can set the navbar to 24dp.

So I've decompiled and made the edit, recompiled and signed the apk, pushed it to my device and replaced the original.. but now it just sits on the bootup logo animination and I cant get past that stage.
Hopefully you have a backup that you can restore. If not, push the stock framework via adb

Much success now.
For anyone interested, I've posted a modded framework-res.apk in OP... Flashable Zip my next project.

I found EMUI themes on the internet which changed the design of various third party apps like f.e. WhatsApp. So I know, I could just take the theme, and edit the com.whatsapp file in it, but there are not all design elements of the app included. So my question: How can I find out the name of every design element and file name to change the design of every part of each app?
This is huge process i think
I'd just need the name of the elements for this xml file and the rest of the file structure where the media files for icons are (with their name). How could other people do it then? Isn't there a way to easily find that out? ?
I guess you have to decompile the apps in question and look at their source code for the correct names for elements. Probably a bit time consuming process yes. But that's probably how they all do it.
Thanks, I decompiled WhatsApp.apk and am now trying to understand how this whole thing works... I still don't understand everything especially because of the theme.xml file which obviously only exists in the theme, but not in the decompiled WhatsApp.apk. But I'm going to try to find out everything by try and error

Does anyone know how to edit the chat bubbles in Whatsapp using the EMUI themes? I already tried to enter another color inside the theme.xml:
<color name="bubble_color_outgoing">#ffd29bd7</color>
And I also tried to edit those files (see attachment) inside /res/drawable-hdpi-v4/, /res/drawable-xhdpi-v4/ and /res/drawable-xxhdpi-v4/.
Nothing changed. Is the EMUI theming engine unable to edit those chat bubbles or is there another file that I missed?
