About the phone
The device come with dual SIM that works as standard phone.
On first firmware, the audio was not clear but in next updates this problem was solved.
The device works as phone, but i did not give it so much priority, because personally i consider this is a gaming console with phone calls, not a phone with game controls.
The data works correcty, but there is no more remarcable features to comment.
Gaming performance
As usual, the most common way to show the performance of a device is running and playing games, android natives and emulated (roms) using emulators.
In the following lines i will show some games and emulators running on the device, and some comments with relevant info.
Android native games
Android games are specific for touch screens, and may use another device sensors such tilt sensor, and most of them show on screen controls to interact with the game, but only few of them have native joystick/gamepad support.
For now, there are some alternatives that we can use to bring these kind of support (joysticks/gamepads and other devices) on these games, bringing another way of playing using physical controls. Most of these alternatives are based on emulating the events and mechanisms that the device originally support for interact with the games. Most of these events are touch screen based, then this kind of apps will "emulate" these touches, linking physical controls (buttons, sticks) to screen locations.
Need for Speed Most Wanted
The game runs smooth on the device. This title have controller support, but only for Moga Controller, so you need to map on screen controls using Snail Mapper tool (the profile will download automatically)
Modern Combat 3
On some comments point to me about testing this "old" game on the device. The reason is not for testing performance, because as you can imagine, this device have good power for running almost all titles on google playstore. The test is for showing the mapper in action.
This game don´t have gamepad support, so you need to map controls on screen.
The game runs very well, and you don´t notice you're using emulated touch gestures for play the game.
Starwars Pinball
Game with controller support.
Asphalt 8
This game requires L2 and R2 triggers to play. L1 and R1 are not used (not relevant use) so using the snail mapper KeyDIY, i changed the L1 and R1 by L2 and R2 controls, and the game can be played without issues with the controls of the device.
Implosion
Nice game. Controller support. Run perfect on the device.
Injustice 2
Another game with gesture based control.
Sonic All Star Racing
No problem running this game. I tested this on other devices and the game cannot run on many of them.
The game runs smooth and perfect. No controller support, but maper solve this issue quickly.
Life is Strange
Controller support. Nice graphics.
Street fighter 4 Champion Edition
Controller support. The mapper download a profile for touch controls, but is not necessary. You must disable the mapper for use native controller support.
EmulationRetrogaming
In the same way that Android games are an important way of testing the performance of a device, emulation is another factor to get in concern, and most important, for systems that are quite hard to be emulated, because with these emulators/roms we can see differences between devices. (most of times, the pure power of a CPU/GPU can run better a game in a device, and get poor performance in another device)
In Android, we get many emulator alternatives (emulated systems) that we can recreate on the device that we are testing. We can use emulators of old computers, videogame consoles, and is possible to run some x86 system (MS DOS, windows 9x but so limited), and we can run most modern systems such Nintendo64, Playstation one (PSX), both of these emulators are consider the top of the current frontier of emulation, but this is not limited to these systems. There are new emulators that most probably will become the new top/frontier, with emulation of PSP that many games currently are playables with near of 100% of speed, or Nintendo DS, that currently is able to run many titles.at full speed (or near to)
This way, we can say that the emulators are important than Android games en terms of entertainment, and for this reason are a big and important part of any testing planning of any device.

GamestreamingRemote play on the device via streaming
With this section i want to test devices for gamestreaming, focused in control usage and wifi (strenght, stability, heating)
My tests are based on the article i wrote for gamestreaming "From PC to our Android Gaming Console" (in spanish, but you can use english translator of the blog), and this may help to bring examples of another kind of usages of the device.
Usually, i test with the same games, for comparing devices. You can visit my youtube channel for more gameplays on many devices, and compare with this.
Of course, the image quality of these gameplays are poor than original image on PC, but are enought (most of time) for normal gameplays. There are a little lag too, and for this reason i use games that can play correctly, even with this lag in sound, image and/or controls. For more info, i suggest to visit the link of the article i mentioned previously.
If you want to see these videos, i suggest to see on your device (mobile/android gaming device). These videos will looks well in small size screens. If you see them in your PC or similar, in full screen, of course you will see a low resolution image quiality, but for devices are enough for playing.

The input has no input lag (or at least, are not noticeable) and can play without any problem.
You must play using an external gamepad, for L2, R2, L3 and R3 buttons, or wait until Snail release their updated controller mapped, that will include on screen buttons for complete the control layout of the device.

The input has no input lag (or at least, are not noticeable) and can play without any problem.
Some commands are not working on the video, because i'm testing with the device on a table, with a camera between me and the screen, and with an angle complicated to use the device. For this reason commands (Electric Wind Godfist or Wind Godfist from Heihachi character)are not succesfull on this video.

About battery
Battery usage is a little bit hard to comment in absolute terms, because each user have their own needs of usage of their devices.
In my testing, i will use some battery logs that help to me to show what i´m using in the device, and with this, you can get a general idea about the real battery duration on my kind of usage.
I don´t have a better way to talk about this point, without using subjetive judgments that may not be so clear for many users.
Pros, contras y improvements
As in every product, there are pros and cons points that are good to mention in a clear way. These points will help to us to decide if the device features are enough for what the user are looking for in a device of this kind.
Pros are based on features that highlight, comparing the device with another similars, or these features improve the experience of the user.
In the another hand, the cons are these points that worse the experience, or the feature is not enough for fulfill what we expect from the device.
Finally, the improvements pints are some features or specs that i think must be improved in a supposed new version of the device, and will generate a better experience in my opinion.
Pros
Build quality
Screen size and quality display
Form Factor (PSVita style)
Replaceable battery.
Battery capacity. 6000 mAh is a very good capacity for this kind of device.
Full featured mapper.
Speakers with clear sound
Snail manufacturer support for quick fix and improve the system
This is not a pro point really, but i want to mention. The device keep the audio output port (Jack 3.55mm). This is a good feature, and more considering this is a gaming device, where bluetooth audio always have lag.
Rear camera with enough quality
Cons
Size of the system is so big for considering this as a mobile phone. This is not a con point, because the system really is a gaming console with enabled calling.
Game controls layout, maybe some symetric layout will be better for this device. In any case, it will be good for next iterations of the device, to add more space between action buttons and right stick, because are so close.
Hard to carry. The sticks are the weak part of the device (similar to PSVita) and it's comlicated to carry on a bag, taking care of them.
There is no HDMI output. (even using usb type-c adaptors)
Lack of L2, R2, L3 and R3 buttons. (but snail solve them with virtual buttons, for complete the layout)
Improvements
Include a puch or bag for transport, for taking care about the analog sticks of the device.
Add L2 and R2 physical buttons.
Add clickable sticks
Conclusion
I'm so glad with this device, their build quality, performance and manufacturer's support.
When i received the device i found many issues with this, but fortunately Snail pay attention on my comments and suggestions and quickly start to fix these issues and did a really good job improving their product.
Currently, Snail is working on few improvements/fixes to be released soon, but i decided to publish this article because i think the device and their software are ok right now for most users.
The firmware i'm using is not public yet, but i figure will be on next days.
I agree that playing with virtual button/on screen buttons is not the best way to serious play, but taking this in consieration, the new feature of virtual/floating buttons for completing the full layout of the controller was a good improvement, and allow to play many games on the device, even in streaming. I get a very interesting and satisfactory overwatch gameplays, using on screen buttons without problems (more than get usual with these buttons)
I focussed on emulation features (basically PS2 and Gamecube/Wii) because is the top of the emulation of this device and currently is what may make a difference with other android gaming devices.
The mappers may be weird to understand how they works, but once you get confortable, they are very clear and "simple" to use. most of their functionality (that is complex in options) are MOBA oriented, but for action games (Shooters, arcades, etc) with few options you will done for normal play.
The device is so big to be used as phone. Time ago i used a Much i5 device as my main phone for a long time, and was ok with size, but this time is so big to be used in the same way, so in my opinion this is not a main function for this device, basically because is not easy to carry on any pocket on your pants. You need a jacket with big pocket to think on carry this device with you (and definely, is not a summer gadget... unless you want to use jacket or a bag for this)
Summarizing, I like this device a lot, more (much more) than expected, and i fall in love playing old PS2 games on this. Of course, the PS2 emulator need improvements, but in the current state allow to play many games that, for me, is the most interesting "feature" that can bring this device (and of course, Gamecube and some WII games too)
Thanks for reading this article, i hope you found interesting and useful
Zalu2!

Four button support?

I'm wondering if there's an ap or kernel or something available that will turn the [RED] and [GREEN] buttons of my Wallaby into real buttons like a standard four button HPC. I want this for mobile gaming. I have a friend who has an iPaq and her device has practically identical hardware specs to mine, I've been finding all the best games for us but she's the only one who gets to enjoy many of them just because she has more "real" buttons than I do or whatever. I can run Tomb Raider but I can't bring up the menu. I can run Ultima Underworld but I can't jump, et cetera. I searched the forums and found an ap called AEBplus for the himalaya and magician that seems to be what I'm looking for but it's not compatible with the wallaby. The Morphgear emulator is able to map all the buttons but the standby, so I guess it seems feasable. The top two buttons are already proving to be kind of far apart for serious gaming so I'm considering modifying them and the ovular pad since I discovered "virtual" controls don't work very well since the device only registers being touched in one place at a time. Is this the case with all HPCs or only some? This is my first. Now I'm just rambling so I'll stop. Mad love to the Sysops, I love that no matter what I dabble in there's a group out there dedicated to it! The WM builds, the kitchen, the boards - All top notch! You make my blog weekly or more!

Jasjar II wish list (maybe they'll hear this time)

New owners, what would you guys like to se on the next generation Jasjar (maybe in six month or a year from now)?
I am not tallking about the OS (thas MS part and can be rectified with updates), I mean hardware wise.
On my part:
1.) Built in FM reciever would be nice. (if the technolory is there, then why not?
2.) At least 512Mb built in mem (making it ~$20-35 more expensive, still I belive everyone that bougth it now would still do so). This in not a serious issue.
3.) Edge
4.) Full handsfree profile support (maybe this is more with software, you tell me)
5.) External LCD display for: caller id (I belive this is critical), battery level, network strenght, etc. even if its just monochrome it would be a great help.
6.) Wlan 80.11g an obvious plus
7.) I could live with 1-2cm wider but have a psion/notebook type keyboard...
...
P.S: to be correct (persay) only things that you wouldn't mind paying a little extra for, if it was included...
How about having Navigation like Mouse which we have in Nokia Communicators... which will save the time of pulling stylus and using it one hand while we hold the device in other hand.

I agree, that would realy help things like scrolling, which right now can only be done with stylus.
What I want the most is built in GPS. It's a pest having to charge up an external unit and remembering to bring all the right car adapters etc. so a built in unit would be awesome.
It would also be nice to see some of the new thin and flexible OLED type displays added which would reduce power consumption and make the displays less likely to break when dropped.
I'd also like to have a little hole on the corner of the device! I know it's not very techie, but I'd like some way of attaching a chain or cord to my device which attaches to my belt, so that if (or when!) you drop your device it wont hit the ground!
How about building in a virtual laser keyboard into the device:
www.virtual-laser-keyboard.com
On the graphics front, I'd like hardware acceleration of H.264 encoded videos (the format that's going to replace MPEG-2, MPEG-4 etc.). It would be nice if the built in camera could save in this format as well, because it would be a big space saver.
As for batteries, I wish they'd hurry up and release some of the new technology they've been talking about for years - better battery life, super fast charge times etc.
Well, you might think the Universal is the ultimate device, but there's so much more to add before I'll be happy!
-no1
my wishes
My wish list:
1. Extra rom storage like 4GB (palm now does it!)
2. A backup system like the one in Blue Angel
3. full USB hosting functionality, so we can use a usb mouse or external usb keyboard or usb mem sticks
4. vga out support so we can project on wide screen
5. firewire support
- After all if this is to be a mini laptop, let us have the full monty then instead of baby face gizmos
Me out
I really wish the following 4 most wanted and easily possible features add to JasJar. I am definitely waiting for successor of Jasjarl with follwoing and currently I'm happy with my XDAII. Current Jasjar is useless compare to my XDAII since there are only few programs works and still so many bugs/requirements in both hardware and OS.
1. FM Radio
2. 640x480 video recording with 2 or more MegaPixel Camera
3. Full Handsfree bluetooth audio(MP3 listening)
4. 800x480 screen for internet browsing.(a little longer 4.5" screen is acceptable like samsung Nexio XP30,Nokia 770).
Some other wish list
1.Video Output(RCA/S-Video/VGA)
2.Videos from Camera can transmit through wifi
3.USB hosting
4.mobile TV(DVB-H) receiver
It's interesting to revisit this thread nearly two years later as HTC release the Touch Pro that includes almost all the functionality you guys listed above. Perhaps HTC were listening after all.

gyroscope?

what is so special about iphone4 "gyroscope" compared to the ordinary motion sensors found in phones today?
I assume it can detect more axis than the current accelerometer.
like, current sensors only detect X and Y axis (like if u tilt your phone left or right), but the gyroscope can detect if you tilt it forwards or backwards, plus maybe more than that. so all this means an uber gaming machine..
correct me if i'm wrong xD
But i think, unless you want to use your phone as a hardcore portable game device, it wont really matter. I see its main use in gaming only, but who knows, might have some interesting apps out there. If i want to experience good games, i would use my computer or a console, gaming on my mobile is only for time wasting, like puzzle games or 2D platformers... quick 2 minute games =)

Why buy this device instead of the Shield?

Not a bait question, but if similar price and since the Shield has a huge advantage of also being portable, better controller adaption for games and a speaker (if connecting to a monitor), why would MOJO be a preferred device for consideration? Seems a slam dunk for Shield. That said, you could buy a small Tegra 4 tablet with HDMI out and use a controller and have similar advantage over either device.
Ouya is so weak as far as hardware, even the lower cost of it makes it second tier to either device.
This is designed for under the TV, and that means there's a few things that make it function better than the SHIELD in that scenario:
1. USB ports (connect your mass media to this device, and power it at the same time) (also 1 USB3 port which you could use a hub to break out)
2. Built in ethernet (only 100mbps -- really Madcatz?)
Under the TV, what the SHIELD does better is:
1. No menu bar (no idea why Madcatz shipped with a menu bar at the bottom, probably some silly GMS cert issue)
2. GRID streaming (supposedly coming for Mojo)
3. PC streaming (I hope coming for Mojo as well)
4. All Android apps (use Modaco's playstore fix for this I guess)
Now, Madcatz could fix/provide an option for #1 if they wanted to, there's no need to have that menubar on there all the time (unless Google mandates it). #2 and #3 are supposedly coming in an update, and would be much better than the given support on SHIELD due to the removal of WiFi as a problem point (100mbit available for a PC stream with <1ms ping... no need for a Steambox in my living room!).
If we just had the SHIELD OS on the Mojo, I think for the home theatre setup the Mojo would absolutely crush (and be the almost-perfect home Theatre device). Right now, there's drawbacks, and for 250$ that's a tough pill to swallow. The Mojo's pricepoint is where it doesn't make any sense. From a simple BOM standpoint, the SHIELD has a screen, batteries, a more expensive case, active thermal cooling (not saying its better, just costs more $), yet its the same price as a Mojo! For the Mojo to be the ultimate TV box it needs a much stronger pricepoint... not saying 100$ but 120/150$ would be nice.
Now if you want something portable... well then there's no option, SHIELD is the way to go.
As for the tablet+HDMI, the huge issue is OTG+Charge at the same time (I actually just made a thread about this in the SHIELD forums). Some tablets accept that mode natively, however I'm not sure which would. Lastly, for gaming, tablet chips will be at a different perf point than what you get in the SHIELD/Mojo (thermals are very different, power draw is very different).

So let me get this straight.... if I'm playing a game, or an emulator, am I always going to see a MENU BAR on there? Like ad ware? Please tell me this isn't so. Or if it IS so, a work around?
If there is NO workaround, wouldn't rooting it and putting a custom rom on it be beneficial. Not to mention we could install 4.3 or even 4.4 without having to wait for an update.
Inquiring minds want to know (i'm waiting for mine in the mail, will probably return it if I have to stare at some stupid menu bar whilst playing my emulators on it).

Step 1) Get root (Paul's thread)
Step 2) Use apps that hide the bar: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.tsorn.FullScreen or https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=be.ppareit.hidebar (pulled from the XBMC FAQ)
Step 3) ???
Step 4) Profit!
It should work, perhaps someone can confirm for you.
In my opinion the shield is the better buy for under the tv or portability. I actually was deciding between mojo and the shield and i'm glad I went with the shield (and i use it as an under the tv device.) The only thing that appeals to me on the mojo right now is the controller, but I mean with shield you get way more android games, and it doesn't have the compatibility issues as mojo, you can still hook the shield up in console mode get a BT controller and game on the big screen in 1080p. PC and grid streaming, can move apps to sd, and its backed by Nvidia themselves.
It depends if you are a bigger console (on the TV) or portable gamer.
Or if you need the ease of both, ie MOJO and CTRLR with new phone (this works great on my tablet and cloud save games- zero setting up!)
Is the Shield BT4?, BT4 is impressive (especially the battery saving)
Obviously, I picked the MOJO, I haven't used a shield.
When the CTRLR retails, I'm guess it will be around $100, so you would be only paying $150 for the MOJO.
It really is a great controller, and can be used on anything but iOS.
I use it on PC games too.
Is the fan loud or pron to faults?
I wonder how long it would last.. on all my laptops its the first thing to go
Last point, 1-5 years from now would you still be using the Shield?
I still would be using the MOJO as a smart TV enabler on the 2nd TV, I hear the MOJO can run of USB power :good:
And the CTRLR + Travel Clip is future poof as MC.rick said:highfive:
If I where you, I would ask the same question on the Shield forums.
and let us know what you decide!
Good luck

So let me get this straight.... if I'm playing a game, or an emulator, am I always going to see a MENU BAR on there? Like ad ware? Please tell me this isn't so. Or if it IS so, a work around?
If there is NO workaround, wouldn't rooting it and putting a custom rom on it be beneficial. Not to mention we could install 4.3 or even 4.4 without having to wait for an update.
Inquiring minds want to know (i'm waiting for mine in the mail, will probably return it if I have to stare at some stupid menu bar whilst playing my emulators on it).

FYI, I finally got root (through a roundabout way with nvflash) and I can confirm that a fullscreen app (I used full!screen, free version) works beautifully on the Mojo. I now have 100% fullscreen, no more annoying bar in XBMC or FPSe.

menu bar goes away.
If im not mistaken, there is a 'hide menu bar' option in FPSE if that helps. haven't tried it tho.

perfect smart watch

Discussion about perfect smartwatch.
My perfect smartwatch:
Design from Zgpax S8 ( same camera position, same size, same weight )
Detachable like Abardeen F80 (better for calls)
Light sensor
Temperature sensor
Headphones in
Water resistant
Mtk 6572
1gb ram
3g ( automatic 2g-3g, on demand to save battery)
Standalone- companion switch mode.
If we keep the discusion to realistic specs/features then people will benefit from the input hopefully.
1. Optimised software for watches
2. Biggest battery without being too thick
3. Transreflective screen
4. Lots of sensors as practical without effecting the performance too much
4a. An app for each sensor so the watch knows when its being worn or not
5. Companion app
6. IP67/8
7. How about a speaker on the belt like the inWatchZ, but a detachable bluetooth one.
Motorola's Project Ara - i hope someday the technology becomes available for watches so we can choose sensors and battery sizes ...etc.
Also....
8. Like the HotWatch which has a patented directional mic on the wristband that (they promise) gives crystal clear calls if you rasie your hand to your ear.
Since, i run every single day this is a smartwatch from a runner's view.
1- ip67/8 is the most important feature, i dont need to explain why
2-RADIO FM(believe it or not, theres awesome waches that carry awesome specs and i didnt buy cause of fm radio like SW019)
3-3.5 mm jack, this is imperative
4- 2g/3gnetwork (make a call while you run or use google now to tell you weather, is just fine)
5- battery 700mah or more(and here 70% of the work is made on OS the other 30% are real battery juice)
6-wake up feature like in motoactv(save about 30% battery).
7-android 4.0>4.1>4.2>4.3>4.4 NOT ANDROID WEAR, i dont like it.
8- hardware buttons, for people who run this is essential(or a gesture based launcher/swipe-like).
9-nice straps, the best ones i find like motoactv/abardeen(strapes overtime they broke, this one can be replaced)
10- notification led (for notifications and for when its charging) not mandatory but it is good to have it
11- back pins for charging(my motoactv is really bad, cause i have to charge it every day, wich means plug/unplug a lot).
12- Price i wont ever buy a watch over 250$, im searching arround 200/150$, seriously, cause after all is a smartwatch.
overall the perfect watch is really close to archieve, but in every watch theres always something that they miss
abarden is the best i found for a price im willing to pay. however i cant find the 3g version of it, im starting to get tired.
A multi coloured LED which is programmable for different events would save the battery a little. You would be able to see who is contacting you and if its a Text, email ...etc.
Is a new OS for watches/wearables needed. Is so what would be the best option?
1. Android optimised for wearables
2. Nucleus - its made for low power devices
3. WebOS ?
4. Anything else?
