Bad news

I have 10 MB of free space, but the system claims there's none. My build.prop is currently a 0 byte file after I tried to edit it. I can manage the file in any way except increase it's size. I wonder if this would be the case under twrp as well. I'm afraid to reboot until I have access to my PC in case I need to re-flash the ROM if I can't restore my build.prop.

Did you fix it dude, I have the same problem. =/

Cannot for the life of me get system r/w permissions

I've been running cm7 nightlies and now stable 7.0 for some time now. I have the new radio, ladios' kernel, and the sdcard read fix flashed.
I installed super manager and successfully deleted some of the stock cm7 media off my phone last week. Today, I came across the new GPS.conf files and wanted to try them.
Super manager couldn't switch the system to r/w despite saying "ok"
When I try to delete or write in the system with EStrongs file explorer, ghost commander, or android mate, they all give strange errors. The deleted files disappear but reappear after reboot. If I try to paste a file in system/etc I only get an error.
Superuser is successfully allowing permissions. I have the latest busybox. I have r/w enabled in each file manager.
I even tried an adb push test which first said "system is r/o only". The next try was "successful" but didn't do anything.
I'm still new with adb so I probably did something wrong. I typed in that r/w command, mount now shows: /dev/block/mtdblock3 on /system type yaffs2 (rw,relatime)
I can't figure out what changed and what I need to do to get r/w permissions. My only theory is that i had uninstalled and reinstalled super manager earlier and that somehow messed with my permissions.
You cannot permanently modify the system partition while the phone is booted into Android. The only way is to use adb while the phone is in recovery mode. Any changes you make while the phone is booted will be lost after a reboot.
Go check on those media files you thought you deleted. I bet you'll find they are still there.
Yes that worked. Thank you.
I thought I had read somewhere that you had to be booted to adb push.
I also thought that root managers advertising r/w capability would make permanent changes.
Next question:
Can I add and remove files from the cm7 zip before flashing it? Do I have to rezip it in any special or can windows 7 manage it fine?
EDIT: Ok I guess i need to sign it... lets see...

It really is as simple as adding or removing a few files from the zip file if you want to modify it.

Hello again
Thnx for answer..
İ think the problem is file system.. As you know gm5 plus using Squashfs file system. because of that we cant changce r/w permission for this file system. Only option is using custom rom.

Please Wait. Our Team is bringing CyanogenMod 13.0 for your device please wait.
We are at the end of success.
Give a chance like.
Take full system backup
Then copy system backup to your PC
Rename system.squashfs.win to system.ext4.win
As well as if system.squashfs.win* exists rename as same.
Format your system partition as ext4 using twrp.
Copy the system.ext4.win to your mobile and restore the backup.
Try this method.

You cant r/w system because GM 5 Plus uses squashfs file system. Squashfs cant r/w it can only ro. You can flash systemless root and xposed.

Hey there,
AirAudio has been kicked by Google because they didn't like a link to a rooting-website inside the description anymore, written 7 years ago.
Its successor is called AirMusic and allows to stream some apps (eg. YouTube, YT Music, Deezer, PodcastAddict , radio.de, Plex and more, you have to try it out) without root on Android 10+.
On rooted devices, all audio can be transmitted.

Do you think this will work with my hard bricked phone?
so if our system is still ro, all we have to do is mount rw every time? I was hoping that we would only need to mount it like one time, because im basically doing the same thing I was doing before.

I noticed that too. I also tried to see if root explorer would mount rw after I used es to mount rw, and it turns out that u still have to mount system separately in both file managers. Bummer because I was looking for a way to always have my system mounted as rw between both file managers.

I'm guessing once a custom rom is available, the whole system RW situation will be situated. Is there an advantage of root explorer over es explorer?

Unable to modify /system folder

I've looked all over and I'm unable to find a solution or even what's stopping me from modifying the /system folder in the root directory. I can remove files from that folder and all of it's subfolders but I'm unable to add any files into that directory. I am rooted on the T-mobile OnePlus 6t that has been converted to the international ROM. I know my root works cause I can perform other root functions. I also cannot modify the /system folder from TWRP either which is really strange to me. Also, when TWRP prompts me to install the app, it just reboots recovery since it's trying to install it as a system app which I can't do for this odd reason I have yet to find out. This issue all of a sudden showed up after an OTA update and re-rooting after. I have tried reinstalling TWRP, Magisk and Oxygen OS itself but the issue persists. I have also tried running "reboot disemmcwp" as root in a terminal window AND using adb but I guess that command no longer works. Any suggestions welcome as this is the last place I can find an answer to this issue.
Edit: found out I'm unable to uninstall system apps for some reason. So the issue isn't space related.

I was actually able to find the issue. Space was the issue. I guess there's a space buffer needed from what a file explorer says is left and what's actually left. I uninstalled a couple system apps I disable anyway and was able to insert files/apps into system again.
I made space easy I have the new OnePlus camera apk 125mb the old one is 67mb

There is a magisk module to mount r/w?

Hi , so apperntly the only way currently to modify system files of OnePlus 8 Pro is through flashing magisk modules , Tried using several file explorers but couldn't change permissions , tried via twrp but system won't be mounted , so my question is if there is a magisk module that someone made to mount r/w , if there is , I would like to get it , if there isn't , I would appreciate if anyone can create that for me , and please don't tell me to go to terminal and type commands because IT DOESN'T WORK, I don't know exactly what flashing magisk modules do but I figured out that it's the only way I can change system files , please help
Mounting system as R/W is impossible on stock software (OOS, OneUI etc).
This applies to all devices launched with Android 10, so, 7T/Pro and up.
https://source.android.com/devices/tech/ota/dynamic_partitions/implement
Your best shot is to create a module that 'modifies' the system systemless-ly.

Anyway such a module won't do any good IMHO. System/product/vendor partitions are combined into a single "super" partition.
The individual parts for /system, /vendor, /product are then mounted from there.
You will never be able to physically write on files in those partitions (if that is/was your intention).
However, you can write a Magisk module (easily) which replaces files with others (e.g. I replaced my /system/etc/hosts files with a version that has ad-blocked IP addresses). You can "delete" files by making them "empty" with a Magisk module (e.g. I have hidden the OnePlus phone/dialer/calculator/messages/notes apps in this way as I prefer the Google variants).
It's not that hard ... assuming you have a bit of Linux dev skills.
Can you be more specific about what exactly you want to do? Edit some file?

I would very much like to edit the build.prop file, and let Adaway (F-droid) edit the hosts file to add its adblocking lists.
Are either of those things possible? Thanks!

Enable systemless hosts in magisk manager and adaway will work. And for editing build prop, look up "resetprop", it's a magisk tool to modify build prop systemlessly.
Thank you so much! Adaway is up and running! I just got a new phone, and got so worried when it dawned on me that the System folder was locked down!
And I found "MagiskHide Props Config". Is it better or worse than Resetprop, or the same? "Props Config" has already flaked on me in the half hour I've been using it, but since a reinstall, it's working again.
I'm hoping it's just getting comfortable, but if you think Resetprop is more stable, please tell me.
And thanks again! Feeling good about technology.
I have ROOTED, rooted mean now you are Administrator of all in your phone. But live is not like a dream, I can't delete or modify anything in system folder on my rooted samsung phone, when using Z Archiver to delete empty and junk folder it says failed even sometimes it says Access Denied ( maybe the problem is here) converted RO->RW, tried through ES File it says in use or busy, Root Explorer is useless even if I adds write permission, but when using lucky patcher to uninstall & install and apps as system then it can creates or delete in systm app, which means there may be a way for me to modify it, if the trash can't be deleted then the system partition will be filled with garbage forever and can only get fatter. Who know how to solve it?
You have to patch super image to make everything r/w.

if that didn't work i guess you have two option
1) open platform tools after enabling usb debugging and do "adb push /sdcard/yourfile /system/etc/security/cancerts
that will copy the file from sdcard to system/etc/security/cancerts
second option i didn't really tried but i saw it worked for some
is magisk module called "overlayfs" if you can't find it online i will attach it here
