[Q] QC 3.0 - Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Questions & Answers

Why I cant reach above 2000mA charging rate without having a thermal mod?
I'm using QC 3.0 charger and 3A charging cable.
I've tried ThermalX, the charging rate goes up to 2300mA. But without it, it is locked at 2000mA.
Is it because of my environment temperature?
I saw some people reaching 3000mA rate without any mods.

If your device gets hot while charging it's most probably temp throttling that's making the charge rate go down.

USB Type-C Charge

I don't know how to test the Type-C cables so I downloaded Ampere from the Google PlayStore.
I only use the official cable & wall charger that came with the phone.
Ampere states that it is charging the Nexus 6P at a rate of 1360mA-2230mA. Every time I charge it is charging at the 1300mA range. Is this normal?
Is something wrong with my phone or charger?
It will charge at a slower rate if the battery is not nearly dead. It only uses the full 3 amp (~2800-2900mAh) if the battery is very low. It slows as it becomes more full.
That makes SO much more sense. Thank you. When testing I did have 85% which is why I had a less charging rate

Charging speed

To power up, you consume Red Bull. But your phone just needs its adaptive fast charger. Rate this thread to express how quickly the Moto X4 can charge. A higher rating indicates that it charges extremely fast.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Charges from sub 30% to over 80% in a little over a half an hour.
Charging is on the faster than normal side, but I am not sure the TurboCharge feature is fully implemented... seems to charge just as fast on any 5 volt/3 amp charger as it does with the TurboCharger (which is supposed to ramp up to 12 volts when it negotiates a connection with a supported device)
Confirmed, plugging in a regular 5v/3a charger brings up the same "TurboCharger Connected" toast message as the actual 5/9/12v TurboCharger... and charges just as fast. Something is not working here.
The supplied charger is marked 5V 3A, 9V 1.6A, 12V 1.2A which is 15 watts any way you slice it. So you probably won't notice a big difference IF your charger can really supply 3 amps and the phone can take it. I guess the 12V charge might be a little more efficient, less heat. Previous motorola phones with USB-C (e.g. Droid Moto Z) could take up to 5+ amps using "TurboPower" charger which was NOT QC 3.0, it was something else, so Motorola likes their own branding which may or may not have anything to do with QC 3.0.
Also, for what it's worth, when I plug it into my RAV Power powerbank with a QC 2.0 port, it indicates "TurboPower Connected". When I plug it into the regular "ismart" 2.4 Amp port, it indicates "Charging". I have the same result with an Anker "PowerIQ" charger, it indicates "Charging" using the 2.4 Amp ports. This implies to me that the Qualcom quick charge is doing the job and charging faster than a regular 2.4 Amp charger. When I plug it into a USB-C charger which can supply 5V/3A it indicates "TurboPower Connected". I think that both QC and USB-C allow a sophisticated negotiation of charge rates vs. the dumb USB method using resistors. The TurboPower Connected message therefore indicates that the phone has negotiated the maximum charge rate, which is greater than that allowed by regular USB spec. So, to my eyes it is working as designed and will provide the maximum charge rate using *either* as USB-C charger, or a Qualcom Quick Charge charger.
With the supplied charger, it takes exact 1 hour from 5% to 90% and 25 minutes for last 10%.
help my moto x4 ( is giving problems with fast charging, with the original charger takes more than 12 hours charging and does not finish loading 100%
I take Moto g5 plus and x4 both had 3000mah battery I tried to find charging speed . Then find out x4 charges faster than g5 plus then I researched about that after I found x4 has good thermal so charging speed will be at 3050mA ,4.2 -4.4 volts due to good thermals turbocharging working still 45 -46°c after that it get stopped on other hand g5 plus charged at rate of 2106 mA 4.0-4.2 volts but turbocharging stops at 40°c

Max Amperage

Hi
we have the transformer with 1.8 mAh but this is quick charge 3.0.
So what is the max amperage that LG G6 can support?
thank you all
I saw max 2.5A incoming according to Ampere and Battery monitor widget.

is it an app?
overall speed depends on voltage too (higher amperage is good, and higher voltage is good too)

Yeah this is right but all elettronic components have a threshold. If you exceed the limit the components burn. So this is the question. What is this limit?
On the charger there is 1.8 mAh for current. But my powebank have 2.1 mAh for the output. So the LG G6 support this amperage?

Well, kind of. The phone will not draw more current than it is able to handle. Using a power source that's capable of 2.1A will not hurt a device that can only draw 1A. The rating of your powerbank is merely the maximum current it can supply while maintaining its rated voltage.
See this article that shows how the phone is smart and will vary the current (amps) that it pulls from the charger, and will be careful to protect the battery and not pull too much current as the battery reaches full charge:
https://gtrusted.com/the-lg-g6-charger-uses-qualcomm-quick-charge-3-0-instead-of-usb-power-delivery
Example snippet from the article: "while the current jumps around before settling at 1.7 amps (this delivering 15.3 watts). ... In the first 60 minutes of charging, the voltage stays at 9 volts while the current steps several times down to 1.3 amps"
G6 charging slow
My g6 is charging crazy slow no matter what...I use amperage app and I can only get out to draw 800mah, no matter what I plug into.(2.1a etc)...doesthis mean I should replace its battery or what?

If your screen is on, the charging current decreases to max 800mA so the battery won't overheat during charging and phone usage.
If the screen is off for longer period of time and the phone still is charging slowly, it is usually caused by warm phone or environment OR heavy tasks performing in background. If none of these conditions apply to your case then (unless you are using original charger and original cable included in the box) it might be something wrong with the phone.
I have USB port tester from AliExpress and I made some tests of charging currents and voltage on my BlitzWolf BW-S5 charger as it's QuickCharge 3.0 certified charger.
With the screen off, the phone does ramp up the voltage starting from 5V. The steps are 200mV every couple of seconds. It's absolutely in line with QuickCharge 3.0 specification BUT! the phone ramps up only to 9V and then stops. It never reached 12V - maximum QC3.0 voltage.
I did plenty of tests and the voltage always stayed at 9V.
Also the current never reached QC3.0's 9V's maximum value of 2A. It usually was around 1,5A-1,8A.
I even placed my phone in the fridge a couple of times, no result
So my opinion is G6 is QuickCharge... 2.5 compatible? Voltage stepping from QC3.0 applies to our phones but either voltage or current does not match QC3.0 maximum values that can be pushed to the phone.
Also charging with original LG charger included in the box and BlitzWolf charger takes almost the same amount of time. Sometimes LG is faster, sometimes BlitzWolf is faster.

with 27W Charger the phone charges from 0 to 55 percent in about 30 mins and 0-100 percent in about 1Hr 15-20mins.
charging speed depend on battery temperature. fastest charging if temp below 35 degree C, around 3500-3700 mA
The charging speed is damn fast.

Hello sir, are you using a flashed global rom?
Guys what about 27 watt sonic charger? Is it worth to buy?
charging rate is very slow when i use the phone while charging....its around 1200mah

Are you serious? My 18watt Charger that comes with the box takes 30mins to reach 50% and takes 1hr 25mins for full charge. Then why 27watt??

in my stock charger it charges 44% in 30mins and 1hr 30mins to full charge. Difference is only about 20% while it should be 50% more faster as 27W is 50% more power of 18W.

i've decided not to waste money to buy the 27w charger after watching this..
I have two power delivery charger both capable to charge up to 60w. When I connect phone to both charges doesn't matter which one and which cable I use currently it always display fast charging text and icon. Why it doesn't go on turbo charging? If I know the phone support qc 4.0 and PD and it should turbo charge on my chargers, right? Anyway I noticed 3300-3600 mAh however it doesn't really look charge as fast as in reviews.
Some people reported 4A but according to qc 4.0 specification it's rather about 3A at 9A. What's the real charging voltage for our Xeromi?

It seems Xiaomi uses a proprietary protocol for it's 27W Turbo charge. For now I've not seen any other charger capable of charging it on 27W other than the Xiaomi one.
Chinese people are used to lying. Phone doesn't support qc 4.0 and doesn't weight 190 g. It weight over 200 g (200.5g)
The phone charges at 300-500ma when using pubg even when using a 18w qc3 charger which normally charges at 2800ma. Anyone else facing this bug?

Nope i didn't seen it but mine working great i have usb tester so i can check everything about charging i didn't seen charging at 0.5A
Your saying it charges at 2800ma but this is working actually at charges at 9V & 2A so 18W charging but those ampere & accu battery are showing differently. First i thought they are genuine after i bought USB tester I learned a lesson they are wrong

I tried a Belkin 27W QC 4.0 charger(attached), Macbook Air 30W original Charger and one more 45W Type-C charger.
But non of them shows Turbo Charging. Not even the Quick Charging message comes up when using the original 18W charger.
Saw this charger on AliExpress with a seller who had feedback saying it gives Turbo charging.

Do you have pubg installed & would it be possible for you to check charging current while game is running in foreground please?
Also btw my charger also has a 5v&3A mode so that's why it was showing ~2.8A

It's not a bug i guess... Its a OS thing .. some custom rom uses the force fast charge option... Then the phone will charge fast even we use the phone or play games.. but in stock roms they disabled the force fast charge thing... So when in idle, phone charges around 3000mah but when using the phone it comes down to around 1000mah or even lower while playing games

QC 3 is great, I dont use the wireless charging.
I'm honestly pretty disappointed with the quick charging speed. I had the Essential phone before this and loved the 27w fast charging with USB PD. The G8X charges really slow in comparison. I've tried QC 3.0 adapters and USB PD adapters and just can't find something that I would call "quick" by today's standards.
im using a xiaomi remi note 8 pro charger to quick charge, the one in the box doesn't give me "Fast charge" icon
using the stock usb-c charger, I get pretty good fast charge. wireless is a bit slower but I use it to avoid fast charge anyway to preserve the battery health.

I agree. It is unstable charging. In my cause power ( A) is jumping, also QC3/unknow is swapping very ofter. Just connect USB meter. Strange. There is an option for save charge, but On/Off causes no difference to me.
ive tried 5 different chargers but this phone does not charge more than 10w on any chargers QC 2.0, 3.0 AND 4.0+ usb AtoC CtoC tested on usb tester. it will spike to 13w maximum then go stable 10w all the way. Can anybody test on their phone to confirm this? ive tried these chargers on xiaomi and realme phone they would charge upto 17w
Lg g8x charging speed
Tried every charger starting from 15W and up to 40W. QC 3.0 to 4+, Dash charge, Warp charge, Super charge, Adaptive Fast charge. 0 to 100% takes 2 hr 12 min.
LG g8x refuses to charge faster with any of them. When world moves to faster charging protocols incl. long hesitant apple for iPhone, LG does the opposite. LG and Qualcomm mentions that QC 4.0 supported in their official websites which should support 27 W, but with any charger phone accepts max. of 13 W in my testing.
I have been using LG phones for long only because of quad DAC. For people like me who wants to support LG, this slow charging is a real issue.
I understand that V60 comes with 25W qc 4.0 inbox charger which charges 0 to 100% in around 1 hr 45 min for 5000 mAh battery as per YouTube reviews.
Now the only question left for me is that can 25W V60 charger be used to charge g8x battery of 4000 mAh in 1 hr 30 min. Has anyone tried charging g8x with V60 charger? If so, can some post changing time.
I would really like someone to use Mi Pocket Powerbank Pro available in India a 22.5 W Quickcharge (don't know which Qualcomm level, guessing QC3) powerbank specifically using a super high quality cable either the Blauplunkt Flat USB 2 to type C or the Ikea Type C to Type C cable using the type C Power Delivery (PD) output port of this powerbank which I believe would be the topmost setup ever for charging this device. Is the Max fastcharge rating 18w of this device?? As such I did not even mention Redmi 30w powerbank. Which is the QC4 power adaptor or powerbank which can be bought in India?
If rooted you can get fast charging via a magisk module. It charges fast even with screen on... Which is what annoys me about the phones that restrict it to approx 1000. They still limit temperature to 46C
Turbo is 2750mah, super turbo is 3000mah
Normal is 2450mah and 45C limit.
Also recommend the intelligent power control magisk module, better than acc. I'm using 90 max 86 back on. Works great!

It helps where keeping the screen on, the charging speed is not reduced. Before this, keeping the screen on would reduce the charge rate a lot.
Now I'm on s21 and they severely limit charge rate once the battery reaches 37C.
