Encrypted partitions! What to do now? - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

Hi.
I installed official TWRP and added some fingerprints. And partitions have been encrypted. What to do now to dectrypt it? Some script?

Boot back to system, remove fingerprints, pin/password

Use this TWRP, not the "Official" : https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...overy-unofficial-twrp-touch-recovery-t3861482
That should be the only thing you need to do. The "Official" does not contain the patches for the latest security update.
They are maintained by the same developer if you didn't know.

OTA full 1.4gb 4.0 update.

I realize there are other threads but they are full of questions. Chugging this back. And they aren't for the full OTA. Only the partial 919 MB update patch.
First I was on stock os with root and TWRP.
I download the full on through the OTA because my patched version failed. Anyhow it won't be any different.
If you can't flash. Download this 1.4gb full version.
http://otafsc.h2os.com/patch/amazon...s3TOxygen_28_OTA_035_all_1612310259_2dc0c.zip
(md5 sum: 5D8CB6BA9E6C4281E208CB952E0B43A6)
Then flash it via TWRP. It will wipe root and return TWRP to stock recovery. Does not wipe apps or data.
It will flash fine. Then flash SuperSU 2.79. It will flash fine.
Clear cache.
Then you will have to flash TWRP. You can do this via the toolkit later. Unless you have a zip download somewhere.
Anyhow no DMverity issues. No update issues. Full OTA problems solved.
I'd imagine it will change beta into OTA as well.
Doo all this at your own risk.
To recap. Download and then flash in TWRP and flash 2.79 SuperSU after. Then flash TWRP however you did it the first time.
All problems solved.
Be aware I use encryption so this seems to encrypt your phone if decrypted. Apparently a backup is needed to make sure Incase it encrypts and messes up files. As stated above I take no responsibility. But will help anyway I can.
thank you!

I see you stated that you get no dm-verity issues. I've installed through twrp and before bootup I get the Dm-verity has not started with some red words. Do you get this?
As stated above I got no dm-verity issue. To fix use recovery and usb to push SuperSU. Then flash via recovery.
You can try using the toolkit to push it. Go into fastboot and push that way.
SuperSU fixes the issue when flashed. 2.79 specifically. I'll try to find you a guide and post it above.

Seems that this upgrade encrypt data, so make an backup

Internet said to flash stock recovery and it fixed it. Not sure I'd do that. You can try the no dm-verity patch included with the toolkit.

Toolkit pushed dm verity disabler to device and I flashed through twrp but it still shows on bootup.
I can just clean flash using twrp right?

Try flashing stock recovery.
Or
Flash the entire ROM again. Then SuperSU again.
Don't swipe right to modify data unless you install SuperSU before rebooting. Swiping to allow system mods with out flashing SuperSU or dm-verity disabler will give the dm-verity error.

Dirty flash will upgrade. Clean flash will wipe all user data. As you should know.
Both will bring your phone online.
They flash stock recovery and not rooted.

I tried flashing the entire rom and it does not flash over twrp. I'll flash rom with twrp then flash stock recovery in fastboot and let it boot into OS and then go back and flash twrp in fastboot and then flash supersu in twrp, in a few minutes.

Thanks for the reply.
I was wondering how does flashing this will revert recovery to stock.
And the other thread in xda has kinda different method. So I thought maybe its better to just clean flash. Also since this is an incremental upgrade I thoughy maybe clean flash will be better.
It's up to you. But it is the 100% ROM. Not a patch so a clean flash will work.

What do you mean it doesn't flash? Didn't it flash before? Or does it require system modification to work.
Did you have encryption enabled before the patch?

Stock recovery is not flashed when flashing the rom for me. TWRP has remained on flashes. I'm always encrypted.

It doesn't ask me again about modifying system....Since TWRP is on it already it doesn't ask about modifying system. It goes directly into TWRP main menu.

You flashed the all zip? Not the patch zip?
In other words the 1.4gb one above? Maybe your download is corrupted. Download via PC and push over OTG or whatever from pc
One other thing to me is since it's not installing right, can you go in TWRP to mount. And then check what it says about system "read only" or what?
Is that checked or not? What error does it say when you full flash?

TWRP decryption on H870 = OK or not?

Hello, despite searching i couldn't find my answer. Is TWRP able to decrypt the h870 encrypted data partition (through pin, pattern, etc..)? Very important for me & i got a good deal on it that expire soon. Hope you can tell me, thanks!

Unpredictable. I would keep data decrypted if you like to play with custom roms and TWRP. If you do stock based only (Nougat, Oreo), then encryption will work fine with Magisk rooting. To backup data using TWRP though, OFFICIAL TWRP for H870 can decrypt data fine but UNOFFICIAL TWRP won't (needed to flash newest custom roms). Some people use both TWRP versions (official one at twrp.me to backup rom, and unofficial 3.2.3 to flash latest custom roms)
I see.. And what's the lastest lineage/resurection rom that's compatible with offical twrp, how far does it goes..?
PS: "then encryption will work fine with Magisk rooting" what?! we're talking about twrp decryption, what's with magisk..?

[update] how to update OOS 5.0.2 to current - Root

Hi all,
I once tried to update my rooted onePlus 5 (Magisk) to the latest oxygen os version, and lost everything. (with a corrupted Nandroid backup haha)
Since then, I've been pretty careful not to update anything, OTA isn't working anyway.
But now is about time to update it all.
I have flashfire, and Oxygen Updater (currently downloading OOS 5.1.4)
My question, before I go any further is:
If I download ALL the updates on Oxygen Updater and then flash them with flashfire (flash ZIP & OTA --> Select downloaded firmware --> proceed), I should be able to gradually flash all the new update until OOS 9.0.2, Keep root, and more importantly, Keep ALL my data, apps and all.
Is that correct? Does anyone have a proper flashfire walkthrough?
I'm a bit hesitant as someone seems to have had issues with Magisk as per below source's comment
source: https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/...with-flashfire-bonus-tip-oneplus-3-3t.621501/
Thanks!
To upgrade from Oreo non-treble to latest
- From TWRP, flash OxygenOS 5.1.4, Magisk and all the other mods and boot up once (to create vendor partition)
- From TWRP, flash OxygenOS 9.0.8, Magisk, all the other mods and a Pie-capable TWRP

And that will NOT erase any of my data?
Is it not possible to do it with flashfire? I don't have TWRP anymore I think..
Thanks!

You will not lose data in theory, but it's a good thing to make a backup

[Q&A] [Collection] Latest TWRP for Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 & Can TWRP Decrypt?

[Q&A] [Collection] Latest TWRP for Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 & Can TWRP Decrypt?
Hi there. If you still wonder that Can TWRP Decrypt Encrypted Data? The answer is YES. I will explain you why it's always FAIL.
Can TWRP Decrypt Data?First, you must understand HOW does TWRP Decrypt works.
Every month, Google will release new Security Patch for Android. Each version of Security Patch will have different (Minor) Encrypt algorithm. (change monthly. EG: July 4, July 19 will have same algorithm)
So, TWRP must have the same Security Patch as your current ROM on the phone to Decrypt Data Encrypted by that ROM.
What is my current security patch? On phone, go: Settings > About Phone, scroll down, you will see current security patch. If not, go: Settings > About Phone > Android Version.
Don't care about date of security patch, just care about month.
I'm just encrypt but not set any Password and TWRP keep asking to decrypt?Use "default_password" to decrypt.
What is the password to decrypt?Same as your lockscreen PIN/Password/Pattern.
I'm using PIN but TWRP always ask for Pattern. How to decrypt? In TWRP, go to Terminal. To decrypt, type in the terminal: "twrp decrypt <Password/PIN>" and tap Enter.
Note: <Password/PIN> is your lockscreen Password/PIN.
EG: My lockscreen PIN is 4294967296129009, I will type "twrp decrypt 4294967296129009" in the terminal and press enter.
Can I Backup my data when I forgot my Password to decrypt Data.?No.
What is SAR and non-SAR recovery?SAR: Makes System partition as Root.
non-SAR: Normal version, nothing changes.
Android 10 ROMs are SAR, some are non-SAR but can't use old tweaks that modify /System folder because it does not exist. Android 9 ROMs are non-SAR.
Use SAR recovery for SAR ROMs, non-SAR recovery for normal ROMs.
If anyone have question, just reply to the thread, I will answer as much as possible and put it in the second post.

If Android 10 Beta is SAR then it will not support old Magisk Modules using /system correct me if mistaken.
Also what about disabling the force encryption in Android 10. How to do it.

- Yes, you cannot use Magisk Module or any old mod that modifies /system because it doesn't exist. To disable encryption, just format Data Partition normally using TWRP. (Don't use rm -rf)

Thank you .. so after each OTA update, I will need to format data each time if I do not want to use encryption?

Yes. But you can disable force encryption by magisk. Open Magisk Manager, expand Advanced Settings, untick Preserve force encryption and dm-verity. Now, you didn't need to do a clean install every update.

How to unroot?

Hi,I have a rooted OP8pro with Magisk and original OxygenOS. My persist.img is backed up. Just in case.
How do I remove root (unroot) the device? Is it enough to install the latest OxygenOS update lately? Of course, I will lock the bootloader at the end.
Thx

If you lock the bootloader you phone will be wiped anyway so i would use the msm tool. Nothing to worry or think about. After using the msm tool you have a fresh locked phone.
