Glass Protector for rear Lens, good idea? - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Questions & Answers

Hi, i'm all for trying to look after my phone etc but i seen you could get protectors for the whole of the rear lens, they say they are tempered glass.
They also claim that theres no loss in picture quality.
I was wondering if anyone has used one or is using one on their S10+ now? is the picture quality effected at all, would it effect the light quality in darker situations due to effectivly having another peice of glass element over the lens?#
You can get a 4 pack from amazon for around £6 and they appear to get good reviews, i assume just the edge of the protector sticks on?
Thanks
James

One more layer of glass I'm sure light is going to create some kind of artifacts at some time.
Enjoy your phone as it is.

Rear Camera Scratched

So I've been using this LS993 which is the Sprint version, for about 3 days now. It looks like the lens that covers both rear cameras is all scratched up. I ordered a case for the phone but it's not arriving untill tomorrow. I believe a case would have prevented this from happening but too late now. Do you think Sprint would exchange for a new one, or do you think LG would do anything about it? Thanks for any input.
They will not exchange for a new one unless you claim a manufacturer defect or something. FWIW, case would have probably done little to prevent that as almost all cases I've seen don't cover the camera. Maybe offered some protection by raising whatever could be rubbing against the lens off the phone a bit. But against sand or keys it's no match. The camera is Gorilla Glass 4 I believe, but just goes to show you that it can still be scratched.
I have cut out and placed an old screen protector over my cameras to prevent exactly this. With the camera being flush to the phone, there's no protection.

Are you sure there is no sticker on the lens that you need to remove?
Pretty sure there isn't. I've picked at the edges with no luck. I can't believe the glass would scratch that easily though. It had to have been from just setting the phone down on the table or kitchen counter.

Granite will scratch it. There's a durability test out there that mentions this...
I ordered a case before I even got my phone. Helps with gripping when taking shots and it won't slip out of the hand as easily...
Mine is 5 days old and also all scratched up. It has been in a case from the 1st hour. It seems that even rubbing it with a cotton shirt seems to scratch it even more. I'm going to asking for a replacement or possibly switching to the S8. This is a defect!!
Have you guys seen this?

Someone's claiming that the glass itself isn't what's scratched but rather a coating that comes off.

Saw that after I posted.
I just bought a g6 and had the same issue. I had a screen protector from thebforst minute I got it but it scratched anyway on the rear camera lens. I thought maybe there was a plastic film protecting the lens but couldn't pull anything off. I then returmed into trouble and got another one and the same exact thing happened??? I have not been near the beach or anything so I'm not sure where the scratches came from? So I'm temporarily using a film screen protector to protect it until I figure out what the deal is with this rear glass. I was a le to chat with only and she did say there was a film on the rear camera lens but again when I tried to pick the corners nothing happened. I really dont known what to think because if I take it back to T-Mobile they will think I'm nuts. But this does cause an issue with the camera. The pics get a bad, bad flare for night pics with street lamps. When the lens is clear the flare doesnt happen. What do we do? I will try and call lg again but the people in the phone arent technical. I kmow I read the post where he says there is a coating that you buff off but should that coating be there? I dont want to ship it to lg because I need a phone for work plus they repair centers never tell you what they did to fix it? Is there a film? If there is Jerry rig didnt mention it on his testing. How can we confirm what the true issue is? For 650 I better get camera quality I expect for that kind of money. I dont want to give it back because I dont want a big bezeled phone, plus I dont like Samsung or apple. The only phone to get is the oneplus3t but they are rolling out the one plus 5 in a month and that will be bezeless. I feel screwed
Same issue here. Multiple G6 handsets including mine and my manager's. All with scratches. Almost all had cases. I am very careful with my device. Seems that if you just look at it wrong it scratches.
Other than polishing the coating off the lens as someone else here has done, you can cover the lens with a lens protector until they come out with a tempered glass version. Several have deduced it is the coating that is getting scratched, not the glass.
Currently I am using the Nillkin H+PRO since it was the only thing available at the time. I reviewed it here and it has pictures... comes with a tempered glass screen protector for front, two camera lens matte protectors and installation kit.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=71921533&postcount=50
I highly suggest to do this until you either you decide to polish, purchase tempered glass protection, etc. No reason to allow it to get worse. I think once a tempered glass protection comes out for the camera lens I will be good to go.

Scratches on display

Hi @ all,
I noticed quite a lot of micro scratches on my phone's display. They are not clearly visible, it depends how the light is shining against the display and on the angle. But I am really disappointed with gorilla glass 5. I own the phone for about 2 and a half months now... I use a case/bumper but no screen protective film but I treat my phone very carefully and it always goes into my pocket without any other things, just the phone. I did the same thing with my older S2, S5 and S7 and never got any scratches.
Is it normal for gorilla glass 5 to scratch so easily? I talked with my vendor and he would swap it for another unit using the warranty. But here comes my question: is the display with the red tint still an issue on new units? Could I risk getting a faulty reddish display? Because then I'd rather stick with my micro scratches and live with it.
Thanks a lot.
Yes, you will probably get a reddish display.
No, it is not faulty, it's just how it is.

I ask this because my display has a good white tone and luckily no reddish tint at all. Is the reddish display still an issue with actual units?

Are you using adaptive display ?
Most displays will show reddish on other modes but white on adaptive.

Yes I am using adaptive display but I had previus units which I returned for reddish display even in adaptive display mode. My actual display is fine, despite some micro scratches... don't know if I should bother returning it again and risking to get a reddish display... don't know if it's worth the risk or just stick with the barely visibile micro scratches. What would you do in my situation?
Scratches are normal. Gorilla Glass 5 traded some surface hardness for more resistance to shattering. Basically, the harder the display the easier it brakes but doesn't scratch so much.
So gg4 was more scratch resistant than gg5. But I'd take a scratches but not broken screen over the other way round...

Thanks for the info To be honest, I really don't know what is worse, having a naked display with some barely visible scratches or "ruin" such a great display with a screen protector. I hate screen protective films, these displays are just too awesome and should be enjoyed naked without having the fear of scratching them... I ordered a screen protective film but I don't know yet if I will go through the hassle of putting it on, it just doesn't feel right for me.

I first noticed them in a shop which had very bright and glaring room light. I was looking at my phone while the light was shining directly on the display. It was a coincidence more or less, who knows how long they have been there without me noticing them. In everyday use they are barely to not noticeable at all. Depending on the angle you only notice them with direct sunlight or halogen lamps pointing on the screen while the screen is off. Still, for this price the glass is a disappointment.

Moto G4 Play Change Front Glass Cracked

Hi! Don't know if any of you had made this but, I took my phone to a technical since my front glass cracked a little and I want it to sell my phone in better condition, but the guy of the store, told me that changing just the front glass is not worth it because once the front glass is changed, the quality and depth sensation of the screen will be reduced. He recommend me to change it only if the screen is seriously damage, like I can barely see the screen because of the scratch but the touchscreen is ok. So guys what do you think about this? Is that true? Is not worth it?

Depends who made the replacement panel. I have no direct experience with G4P panels but found quality varies widely on some other devices. Tough to know what you're getting at a local repair shop.

Bought some tempered glass ones of ebay..
The back cameras don't have a protector on top of them.
I don't think it's standard for any company to put screen protectors on the back of their phones. I haven't personally used screen protectors in quite a while but don't they normally have cutouts so the screen protector doesn't interfere with the proper camera operation? A screen protector over the camera lense and sensor could easily create a lot of problems.
Mine didn't in UK, i was looking into getting some from amazon though but after i read reviews and also asked on here it seems they can actually cause a lot of issues especially when using the flash.

Camera Lens Protector

Is anyone getting a screen protector for the camera lens? If so, which one? I'm asking because with the size of the hole it might be a good idea to protect that lens.

I purchased tempered glass protectors for my S10+'s camera and it added lens flare to the pictures. I wouldn't sacrifice picture quality for camera protection.
Plan to order some. Seen a pack on amazon. But my unicorn case keeps the lens up.
If the protector is not made with real optic grade cristal, which would make the price really high, it definitevely will downgrade the pictures, the cameras are calibrated for the amount of refraction of their own lenses, now imagine puting some doubtful quality glass, I would not do it
Get it if you don't care about photo quality.
I didn't even know this was a thing, generally in a case unless you put keys in your pocket with your phone you should never catch the camera.
I've used camera skins on previous phones which protects scuffs with no photo quality issues...
Note10+
These seem to fit the bill at £5.99

What about side camera? No protectors for it.
