write access to the windows directory?

Hi there!
I got a question:
id like to change the sound when i recieve a sms with a custom one on my o2 xda neo but when i copy a wav file to the my documents directory the file only appears in the ringtone menue for incoming calls. so my plan was to replace one of the default sound files in the windows dir wich is shown in the menue for incoming sms sound eg alarm1.wav. the problem is that those files are write protected. is the any way to get write acces to this directory? or is there an other way to change the sound for an incoming sms to a custom sound file?
1. You can use Total Commander to overwrite the write access. It works for most of the write protected files. Not sure about the WAV.
2. You can just copy your WAV into the \Windows directory. The \Windows is not write protected. Your WAV file should shown in your SMS noti sound after you copied it into \Windows
thank you!!! your second advice worked!

Mogul will not play file as an alert??

Hello all. I have a wav/mp3 file that I'd like to use as my new message alert. When I select the file from the file explorer on media card, the file plays fine. However, when I assign this same file as the alert file, it will not play? Any thoughts?? Thanks folks!!

did you save it in the ringtones folder in My Documents?
Tried it; didn't work. Also, I'm using other files as alerts that are not in the ringtone folder successfully?

Bluetooth Transfers File Type Restrictions

I've noticed its impossible to receive.apk files from other phones.
but i did manage to transfer and receive files like .mp3 and .txt
i did changed files from .apk to .mp3 and it worked..
but is there a way to skip this and just remove this limitation?
Thanks.

[Q] Root required for custom notification sounds?

There's no "Add" option in the settings for Notification Sounds, like there is in the Ringtones settings.
I couldn't paste any MP3s with ES File Explorer into the Notifications audio folder (or into the Ringtones folder, either, for that matter): "Read-only File System".
Is root needed to escape the stock notification sounds?
I did this; I copied my notifications and ringtones off my old phone and put them in the Ringtones folder on internal memory. I then added them with ES Explorer and it works perfect. The ringtone was a MP3 and the Notification was a OGG file.

[Q] System media ringtones, system etc ringtones text file

Do I really need the text file in /system/etc listing ringtones or can it be deleted and pickup all apropriate encoded files instead.
I don't want to be converted to believing placing files on sdcard is just as good.
There is no ./etc equivalent for notification files it seems
