The stock ROM is a fairly solid ROM actually, with a little tweaking (greenify, xposed etc.) you might actually get around to loving it (although you don't have much choice anyways)...
Best of luck! :good:
I have come across some very cheap Galaxy Tab 4's on eBay that I was wanting to try out. I'm a T-Mobile customer so I'm interested in the SM-T337T (band 12 support woo hoo!)
I see that there are recoveries for the tablet so it looks like I'm not the first to wonder.
Basically, my question is: which Lollipop/Marshmallow ROMs are currently supported and stable on the SM-T337T? And have we been able to reliably root/install recovery on them?
Thanks,

Unfortunately there are no custom ROMs for the SM-T337T. There has been an official lollipop update, and since there are working recoveries, you should be able to use chainfire's systemless superSU root method (you most likely need the systemless root because the lollipop update is 5.1.1). The fact remains though that nobody has made a custom ROM for this tablet. Sorry

Thanks for the reply. What can I do to help the situation? What would be required on my end to port a different ROM to it? Either from a "stock" Cyanogenmod or from an existing Galaxy Tab 4 ROM?

For cyanogenmod you'd need a computer running linux, whether in a virtual machine or dual booting windows and linux (I have that setup on my Windows laptop, Ubuntu works fine), you'd need to set up your build environment, sync the necessary repos from Cyanogenmod's github, you may or may not (but probably will) have to create a device tree, but I imagine you can probably use moonbutt74's github repos to get you started on that, and once all that preliminary work is done you'll have to figure out what proprietary files are needed from the Tab itself. And of course it would be a good idea to download and inspect Samsung's source code for your device. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, this would be a good place to start reading: https://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Development#Learning_To_Build_CM
Thank you for the very thorough response. I just don't wanna be "that guy" who gets on here and says "Waaahhhh the devs aren't supporting my device!" I'd rather help
When I get home in a few days, I'll fire up the build environ and see what I can do with her. Here's hoping no bricking!

I have that device on 5.1.1 and rooted it here(in case you haven't found this yet);
//autoroot.chainfire.eu/
Root available for both 4.4.4 & 5.1.1.
I would personally love to see marshmallow on this device! Currently settling for some Touch-Wiz debloating for now.
Does anyone have updates on this? I recently got an SM-T337T and would like to de-bloat it -- first on the chopping block would be TouchWiz. If there's a ROM that takes care of this, that would be nice, but I might be able to do it on my own?
Also, I'd really like 6.0.1, instead of 5.1.1 that's currently on it.

Just picked one of these up for Mom and have rooted and flashed TWRP, but was wondering if anyone knows of a ROM or at least debloating scripts...?
Thanks!
Hey Coach,
I know this thread is quite dated but just hoping you might have succeeded in either creating or finding a custom ROM for this device? I'm still using mine but finding more and more apps no longer supported on 5.1.1.
Thanks!
After firing up my old build environment I thought I would get cracking and start my own builds again so here we go.
Here are my unofficial builds which are completely stock with root disabled by default so android pay works out of the box. I have not modified anything aside from making it a user/release build rather than a userdebug build so any bugs in the nightlies will be in my builds as well.
** I am not responsible if your phone blows up or causes your mum to sneeze loudly in front of a cat **
** If you want root you will need to flash supersu or phh root in TWRP. **
Installation Perquisites
Unlocked bootloader
TWRP Recovery
I recommend using OpenGapps from http://opengapps.org/.
Notes
I have tested this build with the camera mod by @siankatabg and it no longer works however if it does start to work again down the line I will update this post.

Once CM14 is live I will be moving my build environment over to CM14 so nightlies may continue but at a much lesser pace.
Please DO NOT ask for when CM14 builds will start.
Handy Hints.
If you want to get battery stats with better battery stats from XDA without root then enable ADB and run this command.

Thanks for this tip, trying to do without Root (sick of always trying to find workaround to get specific apps to work) and get by with just custom rom and kernel.
Much appreciated.
Is that AndroidPay will stop working even on stock OOS as soon it has been rooted?
Also, is the camera still worse than on stock?

Excuse my ignorance, but besides Android Pay, what's the point of having no root custom rom, as many apps need root rights. Take even Titanium Backup...
What are the core advantage of Paranoid compared to other ROMs out there?

While I agree the custom ROM scene doesn't have much of a place for non rooted ROMs. (Titanium backup is the best example out of them all), it is a matter of choice at the end of the day. A persons wife for just one example might like all the cool extra options and themes that CM gives but what's Android Pay and has no purpose for root. (It's not a secure thing for those to have that aren't totally savvy) so why not use something like this? All about choice.

Some people may want the extra customisation of a custom rom but want to use their banking, android pay apps which do not work with root.
And it's a lot easier to flash root than trying to remove it from CM13 nightlies where it's in by default.
And like kickassdave said It's all about choice at the end of the day.

When systemless supersu is installed, it has the switch to temporarily un-root. Would that be a lot easier option than flash root witch has no uninstaller option? Will AndroidPay work when temp uprooted?

Android Pay detects systemless root the only guaranteed way to keep it working is never to root unfortunately.
Some have got it working using magisk and phh root.
Hi everyone,
I'm tired of Lenovorola's poor update schedule and have decided to flash any of the latest (stable) custom ROM from the threads here. But before I proceed, I have few concerns.
1. This isn't my first time flashing custom ROMs but it is my first time flashing custom ROM on a phone with locked bootloader. So, my understanding is that first I unlock bootloader, flash a custom recovery & then root with Magisk, ultimately flashing a ROM. Is this the correct process?
2. Will I lose the IMEI information at any point in the process? If yes, if there any solution to circumvent it?
3. Can I use all banking apps on custom ROM without any issues?
4. Is there any other downside of doing all this that's not known commonly?
I've been meaning to get out of the "stock" firmware walled garden for a long time and I think it's time. I'd really appreciate any help you can offer in this regard.
P.s: Also suggest any ROM that in your experience is the best.
Thanks in advance!

For the most part yes, you don't need to root before installing a custom rom.

Lineage OS is a good rom to start with, but every rom has it's pros/cons.
I suggest trying a few to see what you like.
First thing after TWRP is installed. Make a backup of your EFS and keep it somewhere safe. Just in case.
Like @Randumb_User said do a backup of the EFS partition (or do a full backup - that's what I would do).
I tried several customs - Nougat and Oreo. In most cases battery life wasn't nearly as good as the StockROM.
If you want to play it safe use one of the TWRP flashable ones. If you want to be up to date I would suggest FrankenROM (best use v12.5, 13 has a minor issue with the recent apps list) - stable, fast, very good battery life (1,5d is no problem).
But hey - it's also a matter of taste ....

Looks like I get to answer my own queries.(I've flashed custom ROM)
1. Yes, the process is indeed the same, except you'll have to flash no-verity patch first in recovery before doing anything else.
2. No (at least, in my case)
3. Most of them work (if they don't, use Magisk hide). The only exception so far is Tez, which doesn't work.
4. Nothing that really matters. Custom ROM will offer mostly stable experience and some minor hiccups
I've tried only Xtended ROM so far and mentioned feedback on its thread.
I'll update on this thread if I've anything to add
Update: You'll get to use modded Google Camera with Oreo based ROMs/stock firmware with root - which makes a HUGE difference in photo quality. So, totally worth unlocking the phone.
Read in another thread (think it was baout CarbonROM) that TEZ works when you login/authenticate or what ever before you install Magisk.

Not sure if uninstall Magisk is enough. Maybe you need to verify TEZ right after flashing and then install Magisk. Maybe contact the member who posted the work around in the post I linked. Good luck!

When you go back to stock ROM do not use the fastboot erase modemtest commands because it will erase the imei just those two commands omitted-

No more updates from op so custom ROM is only choice now. The android 11 roms are all pretty stable but alot of them are not getting updates anymore either. Lineage probably has the most updates and will in future. If security updates are your biggest concern that's prolly your best bet
you have to be rooted for that correct?

Well you don't need to be rooted to use custom ROM. Passing safety net is usually standard on custom roms so most bank apps would work. Even if you wanted to root there is ways with magisk to hide root and still use those apps that detect it.
