did you use hide manager feature in Magisk manager? if not, try that feature first.

Are you sure it's not blocked by your provider?
Have you tried updating manually, by downloading directly from the Github Page

Are you connected to any MDM agent that your IT department has set forth?

Wouldn't blocked by I.T admin..means it's a work phone you shouldn't rooting ideally?

Update 5.0.5.1 - README

URL for updates appears to have changed. Now it's HTTPS and the OTA is now being pulled from https://amzdigital-a.akamaihd.net. Unfortunately I don't have SSL sniffing enabled so I can't give you the links.
Installed the update, rooting fails with KingRoot 4.1. Reset to factory defaults, installed Kingroot 4.1, rooting failed :crying:
Old method of flashing the recovery first from rbox still works. For now you need to downgrade to pre-rooted 5.0.5.0, until rbox releases a pre-rooted 5.0.5.1:
Rooting is still possible:
- Download install_firetv2_recovery_v3.zip
- Download firetv2_recovery_v5.zip
- Extract both to same folder
- Run install_firetv2_recovery.bat
- Plug in power to AFTV2 and let it flash the recovery.
- When it's done copy ramdisk-recovery.cpio.lzma and sloane-5.0.5-rooted_r4.zip firmware to a NON corrupt usb or sdcard
- Reboot, choose recovery with a keyboard
- Install the 5.0.5.0 firmware
- Boot and bingo :good:

Do you have more then one version of a FTV device... aka Fire TV (1st Gen), Fire TV Stick, Fire TV (2nd Gen) ?
I do have multiple AFTV1s and AFTV2s, but only 1 is configured to go through my PC as a proxy. The full firmware is the one my AFTV2 is downloading. Will update in a few minutes....

Sorry ignore this. This thread can be trashed, this is an AFTV2 that was sitting in the cupboard not on 5.0.5.0. Still odd the full update came through? Thought all firmware updates were OTA's, Sorry guys!

By chance, did that AFTV2 have FireStarter installed prior to updating to 5.0.5 just now? If so, can you check to see if FireStarter is still listed in your Settings > Applications list?
I saw some strange behavior on one of my boxes that makes me think the new issues envolving FireStarter are not limited to the 5.0.5.1 update.
Sorry developing news: 1 firetv2 was on an old firmware, so it got the 5.0.5.0 update and nothing further.
Another FireTV2 of mine had the 5.0.5.1 update on the box and was ready to install it. I had to remove the update from /mnt/shell/emulated/0/Android/data/com.amazon.device.software.ota/files/update-kindle-full_sloane-36.5.3.7_user_537175520.bin
I will sniff the link again quick.
Bad news, the URL for updates has changed to HTTPS. The firmware is now being pulled from https://amzdigital-a.akamaihd.net. Unfortunately I don't have SSL sniffing enabled so I can't give you the links.
Elias: New article for you: Be aware if you haven't disabled the updates via package manager and are blocking via your router, your device will get the OTA as that site is not 1 of the 3 we currently block.
Rooting appears to be blocked on 5.0.5.1, at least with KingRoot 4.1
Tried Kingroot v4.8.5, still failed. It's official. Amazon have decided to be c*nts. Rooting is blocked in 5.0.5.1. Sound the alarm bells, run for the hills! DO NOT UPDATE if you enjoying root!
I can also confirm that Firestarter is broken and will not work after a reboot, this is the error you will get:

sorry for asking but which packages do you've blocked to prevent the box updating?
I've already disabled two services with adb but now I'm not sure if I'm safe or not.
Go to http://www.aftvnews.com/block and follow method 1, that's probably your safest bet. Second just add the new URL above to method 3, even though it's https, the URL can still be blocked because only the traffic is encrypted not the URL.
Last image before I go to bed. Proof I have the 5.0.5.1 update: http://i.imgur.com/VVmdG7U.png
Just because they're using HTTPS doesn't mean blocking via DNS or router methods won't work, it just means you can't easily sniff out the full URL of the update. Something like Charles Proxy would allow you to decrypt SSL during the proxy, this assumes that the client (Fire TV) is either not validating certs or you can install the cert you're using in Charles on the device itself.

You can block via DNS, but you can't block via URL. To block via URL a router has to do packet inspection to inspect the HTTP request, and when using HTTPS, it's encrypted so the router can't do that. The FireTV does validate certificates, and you need root to be able to add one.

Correct. But it probably depends on your router, but my router is a Mikrotik and it can block at layer 7 (application layer in OSI). Because the URL request is in plain text, it can still block it. I've tested and confirms it works on the Mikrotik. The issue is that this is a new url that we have not been blocking, meaning those who are only blocking via router or dns will still get this update.
is this the way to block it? or need to put https in front of it?? thanx
So on an unrooted device this update deletes Firestarter but moves all apps to the recent section, so no big loss here. One major problem I'm having though is that DTS and Dolby Digital Audio is not working at all in Kodi (16.0)

Thanks for that info. I'll have a look at it.
Shouldn't it be bypassed by just changing the package name in apps manifest file?
How does Ama. recognize those apps? Only by checking xda or other boards or do they use an algorithm to check for those apps and report them?
EDIT: Is it possible to extract the Settings.db via adb on an unrooted device?

Pretty sure they just block by package name right now. I assume they just hear about these apps online and aren't actively scanning for them, but who knows. Not sure if you can mess with Settings.db on an unrooted device. Never tried.
where are the settings stored, id like to be able to push them via adb, and edit them on my pc
Is this app still working?
as of about 16 hours ago, yes.
Can you make is so that app can update over internet to change the name ever so often to avoid the blacklist?
luckily this still works. i couldnt find a way to disable the blacklist. see https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73761262&postcount=15
Still working with latest update. Thank you!
Pretty sure with the source you could just make your own build/name and avoid all problems with blacklisting.
Dose this work on the latest firestick gen 2 with latest software?

It was a few weeks back that I installed this on a FTV2S. But it worked great for me. Was a gift. So don't have immediate access to it now. But haven't heard any complain from my friends.
So yes. It still works perfectly when setup correctly. I mostly use it with AppStarter v4.0.

Uninstall this app. Then run your virus scanner again. If it passes then re-download it. Then reinstall it. And see if it does it again. If you downloaded a clean version then u shouldn't have that problem.

Google play - many downloads stuck on 0% unless I use VPN

I tried to delete all data and even disable/enable google play.
Mi A1 is rootedwith magisk, on oreo 8.0.0
The apps I'm trying to download are not restricted to my region for sure
I think it's related to the wifi connection, should anything be modified in the router settings or A1's connection settings ?
Please advice

AdAway on Android 11

So I've updated my phone and I've got root through Magisk. I've enabled systemless hosts and installed AdAway, but, when i tap the "Enable Ad-Blocking" button, I get the "Not enough space" error.
I've already given it superuser rights with Magisk on the popup, so now I only see the toast popup when I try to enable it, but it just won't work.
What am I missing? What else can I try?
Have you tried to reboot after enabling sysless hosts?
Not sure, do you have latest version, cleared cache & storage, then reboot?

Enable systemless and reboot.
I've enabled systemless hosts and rebooted, then reinstalled AdAway and it didn't work. I do have the newest version, I've cleared everything with no luck... Something else is at play here, I think...
There's an option in AdAway for systemless hosts but if I tap on that, it tells me to do it in Magisk, which it is...
Is it possible my phone passed the root check and gives apps SU but root access really isn't there?
I actually got it working! Kinda shocked...
Magisk and Magisk Manager both had updates, do I did that and rebooted. Then I removed the systemless hosts module and rebooted, installed the hideprops config and reinstalled systemless hosts, rebooted again, and it worked. Woohoo!

Installing games with OnePlus 8 Pro

Hi XDA,
Phone: OnePlus One Pro 8
Model: IN2025
OS: Oxygen OS 11.IN11AA
Magisk:1469b82a (21101)
I recently rooted my phone and it works quite well, I have used Magisk Hide to 'hide root from my banking apps', it works so does NFC and google pay.
I hide the following service through magisk hide: (Banks, Google Play Game, Google Play Services, an authenticator (Duo Mobile))
1) However, I don't seem to be able to install some games from google playstore, namely : Eve Echoes, World of Warships, Warpath ..all of them download but give the error "Can't install, try again"
Is there a work around?
2) On a side note: is apkpure a trusted website (they seem to have APKs for everything)?
Thank you!
Cheers,
DV

I'm not sure about why google play won't work, probably you can try to wipe data and cache of the Google Play services and google play store and maybe that would work?
I have the apkpure app and it works beautifully, it updates my apps and games faster than the app store and even beta version you can find there. I mainly use apkpure so I can download games and apps that are "not available in my region"

That's bizarre never heard of it
Can I ask, have you got the dreaded lucky patcher installed?
If not then might be time to clear down play services, play store, play games etc, sign out - sign in
Try pushing the game by saying you want to install it via the web.
Go here and sign in, then find the game, choose your phone and itll push to your device, don't let the play store open the link
https://play.google.com/store
What modules do you have installed??

The only thing I have installed is systemless. I tried installing magiskhide props config to see if it helped; it did not, so I uninstalled it.
On the web, it says 'installed', but it isn't.
EDIT: I tried with another gmail account, reinstalling google play games.
Other online games such as Clash of Clans seem to work, so does Among Us and Genshin Impact.
The ones that don't work that I have tried: Eve Echoes, WarPath and World of Warships < All of these show up as installed on the web (but aren't installed on any android device that I own).
Eve Echoes downloads starts installing and gives the error unable to install.
Can some one who is rooted try if these games will work.
ok, one more interesting update: Netflix app seems to work, I thought it shouldn't work on rooted phones.

Must have detected root.
I think it's the game detecting it, not your system. Or Google play won't allow the installation if you're rooted on those games.

Ok so change to canary.
Head back to the normal magisk screen.
You'll see two install/update buttons
Top is magisk
Bottom is magisk manager
Update the manager, it'll download,, then click install.
Next click magisk then install directly
Reboot and you're done .
PS: have your original magisk patched img ready just in case but I've done this a LOT and have never had an issue, so you'll be fine.

One quick question, should I disable magisk hide (settings) and systemlesshosts before doing this ?
EDIT:
a) ok so I tried this, I disabled the magisk hide before attempting this, it detected my magiskpatch during direct install. When the phone rebooted things were a bit slow and my internet was not working. Another reboot and everything was fast again, but no luck with Warpath.
b) Tried to clear cache and storage for playstore and google play games. Shutdown the phone, started it again.
No luck.
c) I downloaded APKPure to try and download 'Warpath', it downloaded but would not proceed with installation., I had to manually click install APK.>The game starts and asks to download additional files..., files are downloaded and it fails to install.
In the grand scheme of things it would be great if I could install everything, I can get by with not installing these games. I fear that this might an issue with others apps as well although so far I have not encountered any problems.
Any other things I could try ?
2) On another note, I wanted to know how I could backup my active partition (just incase I want to try things and something breaks).
3) This might not be related at all, I noticed that my root folder (using solid explorer) shows 0B free of 1.42 GB. Is this normal that the root folder is completely full ?
Thanks!

DV

Yes it's tthat's similar to mine. It's possible that that's the problem but I've not witnessed that before, maybe it is the problem.
Ok so it seems were running low on fixes here..it's almost certainly a permissions issue, maybe the system space? I'm guessing!
Have you tried to mount namespace??
Did you hide magisk manager? Unhide it. Btw I don't mean magisk hide I mean the manager, then reboot.
I'm not sure if there is a way to reset all permissions to apps including Android system apps but that would be my next step.
Beyond that, remove modules and wipe system in recovery, it'll be you're system, apps, settings, but storage will remain, it's what I do if I need to start over as system is where 90% of issues reside.. You will need to fastboot boot the magisk patched img then directly install after.
If it's not that then it's a deeper problem and even though it's just a few games at the moment it won't fix itself, so without a tonne of troubleshooting then it'll be MSM or full zip restoring. Probably MSM though as you'll get fresh everything.
Hang on your internet didn't work??
That's a sign that you're using a boot.img from the previous firmware??
That could be the problem. Re download you're firmware using oxygen updater mate.
Open settings /advanced
Then download the full zip.

Apologies for not being clear.
My wifi was connected there was just no data transfer.
The only magisk patch I have is from the large file that the phone/oxygen OS downloaded to get me OS 11. You helped me on my other thread.
