Simple with 30mb game it heats up like anything i have a option to replace the phone should i go for it ?
Ya mine heats up with just normal stuff. I don't play games on mine.
It cools down after a bit of non use, but it makes me wonder being as my Note 2 didn't get warm if I should exchange mine also.
mine only gets hot when i am charging it from the wall charger. the charger plugged into the wall is hot when i touch it also. doesnt get hot when charging from pc.
Overheating and throttling was big issue on Korean tech community/blog S4 reviews (exynos variant). Sammy responded immediately and released new firmware like a week later. It solved everything, way lower temperature and even faster. I think something with Touchwiz or driver related thing got messed up and casuing problem.

40 is extremely low of a temperature in my experience. Even on AOSP which is less demanding than TW, I run at ~50. Even had it up at about 68 when driving with screen on while using navigation.

As am I. I'm only streaming music via bluetooth and I'm sitting at 45 Celsius. Like I said, I was at 65+ when navigating via gps with the screen on.
I definitely don't need to return my device either.
For some odd reason, the phone gets very hot while I am on a call. It doesn't happen all the time though. Calls are quite short (no more than 10 min).
Can anybody shed some light as to how to fix this glitch?
Cheers!
Try a different kernel and set the threshold really low. Recommend Franco. Also what's your exact temp?

yes. depending on the background temperature too, and youre keeping it insulated in your hand.. if it was the middle of winter in new york city, and you were outside talking on the phone, it wouldnt ever reach that temp. but when its warmer, it can get there fast.

That's extremely cool and normal, no worries. But I have hit CPU shutdown limit (90° C) because it was to hot. Here's a screenshot I took before it shutdown.
Edit: I was gaming while charging on 3g and this was in Illinois like a month ago so weather wasn't hot. Lol I didn't know after my fingers started burning I needed to cool this phone down

gaming while charging can do it. so can streaming a flash movie while charging. plus your battery will get very hot.
Mine was just a phone call hence why I thought it was a bit too much for 5 min. I don't usually give the phone heavy use and it normally remains pretty cool. I might just still change the kernel

If both models are available to me for the same price, which is the better choice?
Apart from the dual sim feature, does one have any advantage over the other (root, update timing, battery life, cpu usage, case availability, etc)?
Root is available for both models, update may be available slightly sooner to single sim, battery is also better, but marginally, no case difference. So, it only comes to a single point, do you need a phone with 2 sims, if not go for single sim variant...

Single Sim is Quick Charge compatible and and If you get Quick Charger bundled with phone, it will charge 0 to 100% in 2 hours.
Dual Sim is not supporting Quick Charge, it will take 4 hour to charge 0 to 100%
There is no other differences.

Okay that was a waste of my money for the car. Im sooo annoyed the phone was on 25 percent charge and even though its a 2.4A output charger in my car (with quick charge support as well which is obviously useless) using navigation my phone just died. I just disliking this phone more and more.

Why do you dislike the phone more and more only because yours doesn't support quick charge? Unless you have encountered other problems with it. But, you could get a navigation system, or?

because compared to my z2 its a lot more hassle. I can't even charge it fast enough without it dying cause the cpu governor or screwed up. It gets really hot yet its slow. And for the fact it doesn't support quick charge for no apparent reason. I mean the hardware is close to identical to the single sim and yet its worse off.
I mean come on I hardly go a day on this. My z2 would sometimes go 2.5

C'mon , it's not that bad... I had Z2 too, and battery is indeed worse, but not twice worse... My usual SOT is 4.5h (full battery usage) and I usually end my day with battery at around 30℅. OK, with Z2, it was 50℅ , but nevertheless...
Regarding heating up, I don't have these issues, but I don't play games, or record 4K videos, if you do, that it's expected...

I regret bying this phone ine the first place... But the single sim is probably better with the quick charge 2.0 and less battery drain.
The single sim does as well have a lot more developers, since more people own a single sim than a dual sim.
In my case, stay away from the phone, but I'f you really want it, get the single sim!!
My s8 heats up a bit not too much but enough to make my fingers uncomfortable from taking in too much heat. I have the screen resolution set on 1080p. Anyone else facing this issue?
When you're doing intensive stuff the phone will heat up, all of them heat up.
So far the S8 has run cooler than any of my past snapdragon devices.
