[N910F] help for recovering data of a bricked device - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
a friend wants to recover his pictures, movies, documents... from his galaxy note 4. The phone doesn't boot (it gets stuck on the first screen where "samsung galaxy note 4 powered by android" is displayed).
As it could still boot in download mode, I tried to recover the data by flashing twrp with heimdall and making a backup on an external sd card.
But twrp freezes after 1 minute approximatively each time I use it and the backup failed.
I found also this thread : https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/snapdragon-dev/note-4-debrick-img-t3488114
but I didn't manage to download the whole debrick img on mega.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

freeze your phone before trying to use it with TWRP.
Keep it as cool as you can get during the whole process.
Take a look here, I ve been there, I manage eventually to debrick my phone for a while.
The ultimate fix was replacing the motherboard, but this could help you boot up and hopefully save your files

Thank you, I'm trying to do the procedure with heimdall because I'm using linux. According to my pit file, I have 30 partitions and I don't know where I must load the 4 files (BL, AP, CP and CSC) in heimdall-frontend.

I can point you out the link on how to flash bootloader and modem using heimdall
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=71445806&postcount=10
also a general link of use of heidall you can find here:
https://gitlab.com/BenjaminDobell/Heimdall
flashing though the repair stock rom (stock rom divided in the 4 files set, BL, CP AP and CSC) I have never seen that happen using heimdall.
I am not saying its not possible to be done, I just have never read about it in our threads.
How difficult is for you to find a windows pc and try it using odin?
That is a way many times have been taken even from me and I could probably give you better answers and help.
Just tell me if you want to do that and I am here to help.
But keep in mind that if you do that, it would probably erase your internal storage and so, even if it boots, you may still will not be able to access your files any longer.
If I was you, I would try to flash TWRP on it and then, with the phone freezed and keep it cool as much as possible, I would try to copy the internal storage to an ext sdcard .
If you could flash TWRP and stay on it enough time, you could connect the phone to a (windows) pc , where samsung usb drivers are installed, and by that way having access to the phone so to copy the internal folders and files

Actually, when you extract the files BL, CP, AP and CSC, you find all the files needed by heimdall-frontend + 1 file TRLTE_EUR_OPEN_HIDDEN200M.pit inside the CSC that I didn't load (I preffered loading the pit of my device).
Unfortunately, the hidden.img.ext4 was too big and the flashing step "--HIDDEN hidden.img.ext4" failed (I think because I didn't load the pit file of the CSC). I will try again with the appropriate pit file but I'm afraid that the data are lost.
I have a question : if I don't tick "re-partition" with another pit file than my device's one, will the partition table be erased ?

Seriously, I dont know.
All I know is when you are making 4 files set flashing using odin (also 1 whole file rom flashing), I have seen message
''getting PIT from file'' , meaning the program is using the PIT (partition information table) that the particular rom needs for been flashed correctly. Maybe thats why your hidden img was not able to flash, because they had different partitions size, between the new rom and phones partition.
Theoretically, internal storage is not erased when you flash a new rom, as storage partition is not involve in the flashing and it stays intact. So if you are able to completely flash the rom and boot up, the chances to find your files is strong.
As I said, theoretically, because even if it flash, many times rom is stucked in a bootloop while booting up.
In that case, the only way to escape, is to boot in recovery (stock recovery) and perform a factory reset and wipe user data then reboot system, as the rom is having trouble with old data partition that cannt handle.
So not hitting repartitions in your case could be the reason, but also is the most common emmc error, when phone is too hot, the connections between cpu and emmc (as they are one ontop of the other) are getting loose and the system cannot write data on the emmc.
Thats why we suggest freeze the phone and keep it as cold as possible during this process.
Nothing else to suggest here my friend, sorry

SGS caught in bootloop while flashing 2.3.6 from ICS Build 9

I have a problem unlike others, i m caught in a bootloop while flashing 2.3.6 from ICS Build 9 using odin, i had nothing better to do, serves me right, I can't go to recovery bcos my stupid ph is one of those that do not have the 3 button recovery.
After odin pass when i remove the usb it goes into installation but it says:
E: copy_dbdata_media:can't mount/dbdata. your storage not prepared. Please use menu for format and rebot actions.(I dun ve that option)
E:failed to mount/dbdata file exist
deleting file failed
updating failed
cache wipe failed
Applying multi csc. Installing multicsc
Can't access
Successfully applied multi csc
But the on reboot it goes into Samsung and bootanimation over n over
Any help appreciated Thanks!!
I ve also tried flashing other stock roms but the it does not reboot instead showing the connection between ph and pc sign. Thanks again
I thought everyone checked if 3 button recovery was working before taking a walk in the dark valley of flashaholics.
Tapatalked - There's a Thanks button somewhere
Why didn't you flash something to enable the 3 button recovery before flashing anything else? Flashing without the 3 button recovery is just asking for a huge headache and even a brick. Now you may have to resort to making/buying a USB JIG to get into download mode.

You need a 3 files ODIN rom , and before flashing make so you have PIT and repartitions , your problem is a minor problem ( because you don't repart the partitions, that's why it's bootlooping

After kies update i was able to go into download mode so that was why i was'nt too worried, my mistake was deleting the file of build 9 in the internal sd b4 i flashed the .6 otherwise when odin finished my phone was in recovery mode i could ve just install zip fr sd again. The problem that the state my ph is in i could not get anything into the sd not even fr pc. Only chance is tru odin, i suppose now i ve to look for firmware that i flash with repartition to wipe the files and data fr internal sd maybe that might do it.

Ah ok, I thought you couldn't get into download mode, but it's always good to have recovery mode since I always found CWM pretty important

When I messed my partition, I had to use ODIN. You will need four files:
1. PIT file
2. PDA
3. CSC
4. PHONE

[Q] Unusual s4 brick help

Forgive my noobishness. I've actually lurked xda boards for years and used the EXCELLENT user made guides for all my phones. However, I'm at a complete loss and nothing I've searched, read, or tried has worked and it's consumed my entire day and left me with no phone at all. I cannot believe this phone can be dead unless there's some physical problem so I'm really hoping someone can walk me back to normal.
I bought a new S4 from T-Mobile on Labor Day (obviously I'm in the US). 2 days ago I rooted it successfully using Jimmy Mcgee's video and the various links including mattlgroff's and k0nane's threads. No problems whatsoever. After I did that I used Ti Backup and backed up the apps just in case, then I ran the moderate version of the Truly Clean script and did a factory reset. Everything was perfect. Then...
My wireless data stopped connecting. But that's not my current problem.
I decided to unroot and go back to factory to a) see if something I did was causing the data issue or b) take it back for an exchange at the store. I started with the K0nane and the Samersh72 guides, but frankly tried so many things and failed I don't know were I went wrong. First I tried M919UVUAMDL_M919TMBAMDL_M919UVUAMDL_HOME.tar.md5
Then I tried Samsung-Updates.com-KERNEL-SGH-M919-TMB-M919UVUAMDL-1366964131.tar
Then I tried the one I did to root it OUDHS-Recovery-jfltetmo-1.0.3.3.tar
Mostly I have gotten a NAND writing fail in Odin with everything I tried (yes I tried making sure Kies is off, the original usb cable, and another PC) which then locks me out of the recovery boot screen and gives me some yellow triangle between a phone and a pc with an error about the stock firmware and tells me to connect to Kies. I can fix that by flashing this PIT file CSB_signed_Fusion3_EUR_0325_V2.pit which allows me to go back to the OUDhs recovery screen.
Also Kies will no longer connect to this device and it says driver install failure when I connect it to the PC (except it stell charges, using the stock cable still).
Dear god someone help me, and I will buy you a beverage. I'm doing instant email notifications of replies. PLEASE.
I'm not sunk yet. I'm rereading the FAQs and guides and I'm going to start over to where I was able to get the rooted version to work. I know the CWM recovery is working so we'll see.
Pull out battery for a while, then go to download mode (vol down+home+power) and flash stock fw in odin.

Ok I will try that. Also I am now trying to flash Samsung-Updates.com-SGH-M919-TMB-M919UVUAMDL-1366964131\M919UVUAMDL_M919TMBAMDL_M919UVUAMDL_HOME.tar.md5
I am getting a little farther in the Odin process but it still says fail right after
aboot.mbn
Also I originally followed Jonny's video and only flashed the cwm custom recovery though odin. I flashed the rooted zip file from my phone's internal sd card like in the video. Now I can't get to the internal memory so I tried saving the zip file (the one I used to root it) on the ext sd card. I'm unable to flash that rooted zip from the ext sd card because the phone wants to reboot as soon as it starts doing so.
Is there a way to flash that rooted zip file (or a stock one) from an external sd card?
Is there a way to flash that rooted zip file through odin?
All you have to do is get into download mode and flash stock mdl tar with odin. After it's finished, it'll go into recovery by itself and wipe some small cache partition by itself, after it does that, hold onto the volume up button and get into recovery again and do a factory reset. This is so you don't go into a bootloop. Now get CF auto root and flash it so ur rooted. Next flash a custom recovery and ur all set. It's really easy to do.

Yes. Also when it fails, it locks me out of the recovery mode. Can you tell me what happens when you flash a new PIT file? Doing that alone does not get a FAIL message and it brings back the recovery screen. However, when I select the pit file it automatically selects the re-partition option which the k0nane says is a no-no (at least for flashing the pda, not sure about the pit which is why I'm asking).

Pit file basically means repartitining the storage chip of your device. Yes odin will automatically check repartition when flashing pit files. Flashing pit file is serious business. I recommend following the unbrick/ unroot thtead in the general section. Its pretty precise and I think since you are getting repeated fails in odin you will have to flash pit file.
You will be fine if you follow the instructions there precisely.
Sent from my GT-I9500 using xda app-developers app
OMG it worked. K0nane's procedure worked on a different pc. Dowloaded a fresh Kies but didn't install any of the extra stuff with it. Downloaded, extracted, and ran odin as admin. Hooked it up. Downloaded and extracted the UVUAMDL tar. Put that in the pda box and hit start. Mine would immediately FAIL but this one kept working, and working, and working and reboote. Why why why? I've been at this for about 16 hours. That makes no sense. Thanks anyway. I'll try the other root method when I'm feeling brave again.

Paying to get this fixed

My s7 edge got stuck at boot screen so i reflashed stock rom and rerooted then restored the backup i had, it said fail because of low memory while restoring the system and now when i try to reflash the stock rom on odin it says model dismatch fail.
If someone could help me fix this I'm willing to pay something decent, but not a whole lot lol

i did that lol thats when it says "model dismatch fail"
Do you have custom recovery?
Do you have a custom recovery?
Do you have the right and the newest Odin Version?
Did you try it with another transfercable or USB-Port?
Do you have the newest samsung drivers?
Did you have any Odin problems like this before?
My suggestion:
Just do a full wipe on your phone. Downlad the newest Odin Version. Get your device into download mode (maybe try different transfercables or USB Ports and the newest samsung drivers) and see if it works now.
If yes, flash the right Bootloader and Modem for your device and then flash the rom you wanted to flash.
If this didnt work, (and you have a custom recovery) try to reinstall the rom without any backups via the recovery at first and check afterwards, if the device is now recognized by Odin.
Good luck

I guess you still have twrp installed.
1. Step: go to TWRP and wipe everything except your SD-Card
2. Step: enter download mode on your device and then plug your usb in (maybe try a different usb-port or even another computer, or another usb cable)
3. Step:Flash the newest bootloader & modem in one step.
4. Step: Enter TWRP again and flash the firmware.zip via the installation process
I dont have TWRP, but i got it fixed, somehow my roomate got it, thanks anyways guys
So all he got was my phone to turn on, im still having this model dismatch fail issue..
Maybe You're trying to flash wrong firmware? What model did You buy?(check box) and what firmware did You download?
If nothing works then download 7zip. And remove all files from that tar.md5 file and leave system.img only. And then try reflashing it.
This way no matter what device You connect it should force flash this image file. Although it might be dangerous (a tiny little bit) so first make sure that You have proper firmware for Your model.

Yes, I've used these files multiple times before i did what i did, ill give that a try, if it works, i owe you.
If system.img by itself will flash successfully and Your phone won't boot then add slowly more files to that tar file (boot.img, recovery.img etc)
You could also try looking for a pit file for Your phone and then flash it with it. Pit file usually fixes most problems even broken partitions.
And make sure that You put that tar file in AP/PDA.
If nothing above works then send me screenshots of ODIN and the file that You're trying to flash. Maybe I'll notice something. But I hope You'll fix it

Hello everyone,
I have a phone beyond2qlte and I accidentally checked the "Re-partition" button in Odin without PIT, the storage only recognize 32GB now (The original size is 512GB). i am so stupid and would be so grateful for your kind help.
My phone is Snapdragon and tried every method to flash TWRP but still bootloop. I just want to have a phone for normal use now, but it seems so hard....
I flashed BL,AP,CP, CSC but still failed...

Have you attempted a factory reset?
I think you have to flash PIT file from your S10+ firmware.

Bricked G950F with Empty efs folder

Hi guys, a few months ago I tried to install a custom rom (LightRom) and I was stupid enough to not backup my EFS folder. It stuffed up my Sim card so I tried using a tutorial which said to flash a file called fix.regalstreak. After flashing this my phone was hard Bricked and after flashing TWRP, my phones EFS was empty and no ADB command could fix it. I still am unable to boot into any ROM or stock - even though I can get into the custom Roms install page and my EFS folder is empty with no backup so how do I fix this?
Note:
When flashing stock firmware, if I try to use a pit file with combination of AP, BL, CP, CSC it fails, but if I flash AP, BL or CP it works so CSC has an Issue I think.
However, when I flash with no pit file my phone gets stuck at the Samsung Galaxy S8 screen.
Sorry for the long post
I had the same problem but I managed to solve it by downloading the file: https://www.mediafire.com/file/z0z69kilpala6tu/EFS-SM-G950F-31-08-2018_03-48-37.tar/file after opening in odin put the device in download mode, use odin 3.11.1 open the file in the AP tab then press start, after the procedure, install twrp and install a custom rom I recommend the hades rom 2.0, the stock rom doesn't work the only problem and the device has a null imei
Thank you so much I have been searching for answers everywhere and you have saved my phone
