Was so excited to try this bad boy on MetroPCS and it never ever detects any network, so it can't activate the SIM.....anyone have any help? I really want this to work....
Did you call your provider to activate the SIM? If you did, then it is possible you may need to set the APN settings yourself if it cannot connect to a network. If this is the cause your provider may be able to walk you through the steps or have instructions on their website.
Try to change language to English on the phone. Then restart. When sim activate you can change language what you use. I have the same problem. I live in Poland and use polish language and on pl cant activate my sim

Hi there.
I have a friend who has an X1. He is reporting that the X1 is working with his O2 sim card and working on Vodafone however it isnt working with his Latvian sim card (in the UK) (i.e. Tele2 and LMT). Are there any settings you need to change in order to enable roaming? Is it possible for a phone to be country-locked?
Thanks,
Lawrence
It might be the phone is locked..then again it might not be.
What does he see when he puts in the card? How long do you wait while it searches for a signal? (Sometimes when I'm roaming it takes a few moments -in egypt I think I waited 2 minutes - it might take longer for Latvia to register for one or other reason).
thanks for your quick reply!
I dont think it is locked because it works on both O2 and Vodafone fine. I bought the phone from vodafone and all of their phones come unlocked.
its more likely that the phone isnt using the correct setting for the service provider... usually when the phone detect a new sim it will ask you if you want to change your settings... your friend may have missed it and didnt change the setting so it didnt work
Roaming is enabled by the origin network, not by the phone.
There is a chance that some of the UK networks don't allow those SIMs to roam on their network, but you would need all 4 for them not to work.
another reason could be too old incompatible sim card
people have from time to time reported rather old sim cards being
incompatible and solved it by getting newer sim card from their operator
Hey,
I unlocked my UK ORANGE HTC with the info I found from this forum. The first time it worked like a charm... Put my Finnish simcard inside and it worked. Both in the UK and abroad.
But I tried to put my Finnish simcard into the phone few days ago and now it cant seem to find network for some reason. The simcard works in other phones and finds network.
When I go to the network settings. The network selection is on automatic. I tried to change it to manual put it says:
"network error. cannot read settings from the network. try viewing settings later, or disconnect dataconnection and try again"
I dont have any dataconnections or anything on. It just keeps searching the network and doesnt find any.
The phone does find network when I put my orange simcard into it.
Any ideas what could be wrong ?
Thanks a million!
anyone have any idea ?
Even I am facing similar problem.
In mine case whenever I move to a roaming network or I try to use a local sim while I am in roaming; I am facing the same problem.
Any solution is highly appreciated.
Thanks
Yash
Does anyone know how to make my universial connect to tmobiles 3G ?
im using a T-mobile sim and contract any ideas ?
most of the roms have the operstor settings.. so it will ask to set up operator setting automatically after flash, or you can search for your service providers cab, which will do all the necessary thing to get it connected...
Is there a way to lock my Diamond2 to use SIM card only from one operator (CC 284 NC 03, Bulgaria Vivacom) ???
I want to make my girlfriend to get SIM from Vivacom .
Not so sure about the simcard part but you can configure the phone to use only 1 network. Go to phone setting, personal, phone.
On the network page, set to manual and pick the operator network u wanna use. That'll get the phone to connect to that particular network only.
Changing simcards should result in no network connection, unless the setting is changed back to auto or set to another operator..

Click to collapse
Good solution, but when reboot the phone I get message to select network again and she can choose another network.
Lol don't you think you are over-abusive to your gf??? What's the catch? Unlimited Viva 2 Viva calls????
Hi I recently unlocked my G1 with a code, I had service. after I had to activate the phone but my sim card wasn't provisionned for data.so I turned off.Now when I put sim card the phone don't see any network,it don't ask me unlock code.I have no ideas please help me.
do you have tmobile sim? you shouldn't need a code.. but if you dont have a data plan it shouldn't matter anyway bcuz you cant do anything with the sim... basically can only use wifi and if your device is rooted you dont need a sim, sorry if i mis understood the question
Once you unlock your G1 from T-Mobile, it stay unlock. You can use any SIM from any network, but you might have to setup the APN for your vendor. (IE: AT&T, Sprint, etc...)
As stated by ldrifta if you don't have data service from your vendor, you can only get internet (online) using wifi.
So, in order for you to get provision you will have to get with your vendor to pay for the service.
I have good apn settings for my vendor mcc, mnc, apn and so but I still don't have service. I'm anxious for that, or I need to activate first using wifi before having service?
Since you have already unlock your G1, my suggestion is to get the data service. So you can start using it.
I tried a friend sim card provided with data service but it sill don't see any network,no service.Do you have any idea about it.Thanks
Go to Setting >> Wireless & Network >> Mobile Networks >> Network Operators
And select your vendor network you supposed to be on. That should registered your phone on your vendor network.
ok I will try
