Thanks. I actually laughed to he's reply, the fact he didn't bother to even look, looks to me like lazy typing.
It wasn't like you missed one letter or even two, the whole word was wrong. I'm not on Facebook. The fact that what I said bothered you so much that you wrote quite a lengthy response about me was quite telling and immature.

While I understand anyone can ask politely to correct misspelling. Its utter nonsense to response without actually answering the question.
And as far as I can see, there is one sensible human being who actually answered. Nice and simple none of this .... nonsense to put it.
Just as u did not.. I'm not interested to hear your opinions or anybody else in matters of others than asked . I would like to hear the answer for the question. If you don't have it why don't you just go elsewhere where you may actually help others...

As you have found out some people don't login to xda to see you post to tell them they're english is bad or you're gonna get flamed.

[Q] Root Block: Intentional or Bug?

Cyanogen is saying its a bug. Tmo is saying its a feature. which one is correct?
If it is indeed a bug how would tmo go about fixing our phones? mass recall? sweep under the rug?
If its a feature, is it a precursor to what future phones will be?
Either outcome isnt very good for the consumer and may lead to lots of lost customers for tmo. Specially after tmo releasing a statement that its a feature of the phone.
I love this phone, the very first smartphone i ever had, and was really looking forward to hacking around with it but its hard to justify such a device that locks you out of such features. I hope cyanogen and all the other great devs work out a solution to this problem. I dont want to send it back.

People are being jerks for sure, but OP, you should search better cuz your question has been answered in several threads. The short of it is NO. It is not a bug in the sense you are thinking. It is an intentional bug which tricks linux (android os) into thinking writes to the system files during root are being made when in actuality, the writes are only being written to cache. Once the cache is cleared during reboot the root access is erased because it wasn't actually written to the system in the first place. It's not a bug that needs to be fixed. It's a bug that was placed there to fool the system and make permanent root more...challenging.

There is a very informational Wiki out. Check it out. It will get you up to date with all the work that has been done towards root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_G2
The important part of the question.. for me.. is whether the Z has the same bugFeature.
I see one random user saying that they flashed a G2 rom on a Desire Z and nothing more. Have I missed something? Kinda hard to say yay or nay based solely on that.
"Intentional Bug" ????
If it's intentional, it's NOT a bug.

Thank you XfooYen for the info. I did a quick search before I posted(the posting page even searches similar post before you publish them) and found nothing similar. I will make sure to search more thoroughly next time.
I am familiar with the current situation with root, I just though that if a well known developer like cyanogen thinks that its a bug that maybe the readers of xda might want to discuss his possible ratonale for such a statement, then again that may not have been what he was trying to say and got it misrepresented by the media. Instead I saw nothing but irrelevent and pointless posts. For a second I thought this was gizmodo or engadget.
Thank you again. Its good to know that xda has readers who actually know what they are talking about and not just the average troll.

Forum etiquette rant!

This has been winding me up for a while. I don't post too often but read alot and there are many MANY users who quote an entire previous post to reply.
They even do it on the second post in a thread. Its not like anyone is thinking you're talking to someone else.

Nope!
I don't even think it's bad... the quot is in a different color, pretty easy to spot and "not read"
This kind of quoting is totally redundant and a waste of space. It makes threads longer and difficult to read.
You really should quote only the most relevant parts where it clarifies your answer, marking omitted parts with "(...)"
I'd rather people quote entire posts than not at all.. There are some people who jump into a thread and respond to significantly older posts without reference.
I'm more concerned that the number of people who are inventing their own outrageous claims (without evidence) and trying to shove it down others throats aren't even being told off by mods. It is effectively degrading the quality of discussions, because trolls win either way. With some of these trolls, some threads get closed because of flamewars, and there is no way to dispute their claims without causing one (some of the trolls are wrong).
Not going to name people, but for instance, there is at least one GPS "expert" going around thread to thread stating that Google maps is faulty and that the GPS is flawless. He is causing a flamewar on EVERY thread because he hasn't actually proven that it is faulty, yet, mods aren't warning him, requiring that he provides accurate evidence as requested by those in the community, and because it's clear he hasn't actually done sufficient research, there is simply insufficient information to make the claims

We need quotes, just makes it easier to spot and understand the poster if they are replying to someone specifically (question, opinion etc) otherwise it seems that they are talking to themselves. Quotes are shown in a different color so there is no need to read it if you don't want to, pretty easy to spot.
On the subject of second posts. You should quote the person if your indeed replying to the OP's opinion, question etc otherwise it might seem that your asking for something else. Quoting, if done correctly, just makes it easier to read and follow a forum topic but each to their own I s'pose.

Your first point here does not make sense. Surely if its a second post in a thread it is obvious who and what you are replying to. The reason you are posting is to reply to something above so just following the conversation flow.
I agree with the second point. Quotes used in the right context are indeed useful.

Or even a half-collapsed view.
So show a maximum of 5 lines of the quote (and hide an images), and then have a "expand to see full quote".
Then there is still quick access to the complete context, things are clean, and the flow of conversation is maintained.
You guys are coming up with some great ideas. Maybe the development of this app could include it in an update?

I'd just like to raise this subject again due to the ever growing community here.
I find the problem is increasing to the extent that someone will post a long and valid post only to have someone quote the whole thing and put a +1 at the end.
Can we find another way to agree with people other than taking up huge amounts of space?
Maybe start the quote with a couple of lines, then ... to show it continues.

You're right. There's a thanks button it's not really the intended use but if you agree with someone why not just thank him?
That's certainly better than the "quote all +1" approach
something other about form etiquette:
If you don't have anything useful and constructive to say: shut up
I'm getting tired of cynical replies to people who just desperately need help.
Seriously, if you're in a bad mood or find that question particularly stupid you don't have to answer.
Hating on others just ruins the mood for everyone....

so the favour i want to ask is, if you see a post that seem familiar in wording or content. as well as reporting via the correct methods could you also let me know.

Just a quick ? about saying "Thanks"...

Ok so basically, this is a rant for all forums not specifically this one...but I've noticed in a lot of the threads I read through people asking this or how to do that or can someone do this or where can I find that...now imagine how easy it is to click the thanks button the forum developer put on posts, hell even saying thank you in the thread??? Alot easier than it was for someone to take the time to answer your question or help you out?
I see this all the time on all the forums...
So why is it that most people don't do it?? Serious question? Has it come down to just being a gimme gimme gimme world? And trust me with 6 kids in my house I understand that...but my 2 year old neice says bless you when you sneeze or thank you for whatever reason it is deserved??
So why is it that some grown ass men or women or even teenagers on these forums can't even say thanks? Lol. That thanks button is there...well atleast my view on it...so that when someone gives me advice or a suggestion I see they have been thanked umpteen times or however many times and I'm like well this person seems credible? And it may not seem like it to everyone, but to me it kind of makes you feel good that you helped someone and they took the time to thank you Seriously people...we need to start thanking those that deserve it!!
And again this was a rant for all the forums I frequent not this one, not any specific thread, and not about me getting thanks because I dont care if I do or don't...I'm not a Dev, I'm not a Themer, I'm just a guy that visits forums and passes along info and knowledge I've recieved from people that I have thanked
And this will be on the other forums I frequent also since not everyone is on XDA
Thanks for reading
Now what are your thoughts
Edit** And for those that say I use forum "X"s app and there isn't a thanks button but I thank later from a computer, this isnt about not getting thanked right away...just not getting thanked at all **
I think people asking those questions over and over don't even know it...
If it was a little more in your face they would probably press it like after you reply it should ask ...would you like to thank?
Thank you!

Thank you...I too get a little irked when you spend a couple of days working with someone, fix their issue and then they are gone. BTW I thanked you!
Honestly, I liked XDA better when there wasn't a thanks button, then people wouldn't complain about it being used

Thats a great suggestion but I think then people would complain about it being in your face, like trying to make you thank someone. Which you never have to do. You aren't required to thank anybody...
That's why it makes people feel good when they are actually thanked Because you actually took the time to let me know I helped you

Thank you...I too get a little irked when you spend a couple of days working with someone, fix their issue and then they are gone. BTW I thanked you!

Thanks for sharing your opinion and that is one of the exact reasons for this post...the lack of the common courtesy!

Honestly, I liked XDA better when there wasn't a thanks button, then people wouldn't complain about it being used

Appreciate your honesty but again in my post I said it's not about the thanks button not being used
Even though I can point out I don't know how many posts in a single ROM thread that a person has an issue or question and it is answered or solved and like stated above...they are gone ...it's not about the button...but the lack of the common courtesy of saying thank you
*thanked for your honesty
IDK, one of my biggest pet peeves are people who are like panhandling for "thanks". The people who say "don't forget to thanks if I helped you" and things like that. To me its a meaningless number under my username. I guess its nice knowing you helped someone by them "thanking" you, but 99% of the time that I help a person, they actually write out a comment to me thanking me for helping them.
Yea, its a rude move not to thank a person that is helping you, but I don't help people for thanks. I help people because if I know something that can help them, I can make their day/life a tiny bit easier and then someone else will do the same for me.

That's exactly it! It's not about the thanks button lol Everyone is refering this to that lol
I only referenced the number because like I said...why is it really there? I think to let others know that you've been a help to someone previously....
It's about the lack of the common courtesy
That's why in my sig it says if "someone" has helped you not me! lol If you say thanks in a post back great! If you click the button cool! Just thank the person helping you somehow!
Edit: And thats another thing its about paying it forward I'm always helping people on the side of the road, or getting off the top of their cars during a flood...But unless they thank you how do you know that you helped them?
Edit: Maybe I should change my sig to say Thank them not hit the button

Your sig is great. People should thank those that help them and giving people a general reminder is a good thing.
Part of not getting thanks is xda's 5 thanks per day and the other part is people prefer the app when the browser works quite well....its all I use to post and I always post from my phone.

Yep, I do 99% of my XDA browsing on my phone. That app is too nice.
give thanks
I give thanks when thanks are do and honestly it does not have to be through a button nor in a post typically i will direct pm the person i am thanking and do so that way even for something small.

This is the part I agree with the most. Even from the phone, hit menu on the XDA app, browser, and thank the person helping you.
