Hi, thanks for visiting the topic. The problem was discovered when i installing this ROM, in fact clean LOS 14.1
He was stable, but when checking the microphone (in the dialer, voice recorder and video recording) it turned out that only the top microphone works (the S5 has two microphones - bottom and top), and the bottom one either does not work or works very poorly. So, when returning to the official firmware 6.0.1, it turned out that the top microphone should work as a noise maker, and the bottom one should work as the main one. In LOS, I understand it turned out the opposite. How can I reassign microphones or can I get drivers from the drain or can I edit some configuration files? Thanks.:silly:

Hello. I have a T-mobile Galaxy S 5. Recently I tried CyanogenMod 12.1 and several derivatives (such as Resurrection Mix). All share the same problem: during a call, if I plug in a earpiece without a microphone, the microphone in the phone will not work. The other side can't hear me. I can hear the other side though. If I instead plug in a earpiece with microphone (like the one from the phone), everything works. Or if I turn the speaker on from the phone app, the phone's microphone also works.
I remember when I was using the Samsung TouchWiz there is no such problem. Is this a known issue of CyanogenMod? Is there any ticket tracking this issue? Is there simple way to fix?
Thanks!
Has anyone dealt with a dead mic ?
One day out of the blue on 4.4 mic stoped working.
Installed L 5.1. beta 3 and the mic still seems dead (Calls and Google voice) HOWEVER in sound recorder the mic works (picking every single sound) ...
Further more installed the HiQ Mp3 recorder which apparently can use front and or back mic and it works in all configs .(front back and stereo)
Tried different values via engeenering mode with no luck ....
****** Apologies to all this post was misplaced in this forum *********
I guess I should replace the charging board alltogether however I am puzled that the recordings come out clean ......
Anyone with a similar experience ??
(btw sound on wired headset is fine ... bluetooth sound is broken I think due to beta since the bt headset and speaker I tried didnt work)
Phone is Jiauy S3A
Ok Results
The issue was a dead mic (low mic) or rather a near dead mic.
Replacing the mic (on the same board ) resolves the issue (note that you can use third party mics i used asamsung one)
Best test to realise where is the fault
Open the camera recorder and start recording
Close the top mic hole with your finger, start talking in the lower mic and in the end gently (very gently) blow towards the hole.
Repeat on the top hole with the lower hole closed
After that listen to the video
If there is a problem with a mic the voice might be heard but the blow will be almost inaudiable in the problematic mic.
I have exactly the same problem - mic works fine on sound recorder and on the video camera, but Google Voice Search and using the phone does not (I've tried your blow test and it's all fine). This surely cannot be a hardware fault, can it ?
I've tried updating to LL5.1 beta3, but same problem. I've fiddled with the audio settings in the engineering menu, using a variety of values, and turned off the noise reduction without any success.
Any ideas ?

Google voice was the main indicator that the mic was bad ....
Do the blow test again and try as "gentle" as possible and then compare the results, if the uper mic is louder then then mic is dead or nearly dead.
Most probable that you ll need to change your mic
Thanks for your help - can you provide a link to the replacement mic you used (or did you use one from an old phone) - and is it easy to replace ?
Unfortunately I did go to a service shop for the repair, so I dont have a model number, all I know is that he proposed two different types, one was a noname and the other one was made by samsung (so my guess is that any samsung service center can sell you one) .
The process took about half an hour, unsoldering the old mic and soldering the new and the cost was 10 euros ( around 11 USD)
Sorry I couldnt be any more helpfull on that.
I found that, after video recording with stock camera app, main mic stop working for calls. only upper mic working. you can test it with 2 phones in both hands. but I was find simple solution: many people holding phone when taking pictures so the controls are on right side. but if you turn you phone so the shutter button will be on left side, after video recording, main mic still working!!! btw. if you like to take a shoot with control button on right side, just after you finished, turn your phone for 180° and make one more shoot, just to save your main mic for calls. no reboot needed after this action. tested on many roms, KK or LP, happend with all roms and stock camera. so problem is with stock camera app and sensor that give the information to phone to disable main mic.
Well mine was definitely a hardware fault - got a replacement lower board (USB/mic/speakers) and replaced it myself - all good again.
I think i've got the answer. The lower mic is broken for some of us. When we got to the camera app and take a video and turn the phone around it will indeed change the mic and then will use the upper one (still working) in future calls. This is why you can then be heard after when you call someone, but you'll be using the upper mic and the lower mic is still broken. Once your reboot you have to redo this. I'd like to buy a new board (usb + mic) but we cannot find any on internet anymore. Except some sellers on Ebay who are selling it from 150 dollars to 900 dollars (no joke). I guess i don't have much solution except doing that trick and use the upper mic and then try not to reboot the phone.
hi guys, first I can not write in English, I am using a translator, I am Brazilian (unfortunately)
My problem is the following:
I updated my Galaxy S4 i9500 for CM13 6.0.1 Optimized
It worked okay, just a few bugs in the camera, but my biggest problem is being in the microphone volume is very low, and this problem had in my old update that was the lollipop, but in Lollipop I activated Speakerphone and wore it well
Now the CM13 to the speaker the audio goes down, WhatsApp recordings come down
I've been looking at that mixer_patch.xml file, but do not know where I can try to change some value there to see if I can solve my problem
I hope you can help me in this
Excuse my English, I hope it is understandable
Thank you
It's not that the volume is very low, mic volume is fine, it's just that any mm/lp rom that's not tw uses the second mic (the one on the upper side of the phone) instead of the first mic. In calls everything works fine, but in voice recording apps like ok google or whatsapp is not.
So then, how to fix the mic problem? Is there any way to switch the first and second mic using a kind of config maybe?
Hi there everybody. First time posting anything in any forums. Please excuse any irregularities that I may show (deviating from the norms and such).
ISSUE BACKGROUND
So I recently bought a LeEco Le Pro 3 (LEX727) second hand and I've run into an issue with the microphone during calling. I can hear the person calling fine, but the caller cannot hear me. I have checked that it is not a sim issue as I've tested call with two different sims (one local and one international sim). Currently it is running on LineageOS version 15.1-20180312-NIGHTLY-zl1. It is currently rooted via Magisk.
In system/etc/usf/form_factor_mtp.cfg I found out that there are two mics:
- top right mic
- bottom 90 degree mic.
I confirmed the top right mic is working as Google Now and recording apps picks up my voice. Using the MicTester app, I also confirmed it is indeed the top mic is functioning fine as the sound wave increases in amplitude as I input sound closer and closer to the top mic (as opposed to the bottom one).
I feel it is not a software issue as I have flashed various roms to the device, resulting with the same issue. Roms I have flashed includes:
- AICP (Oreo)
- Stock EUI
- Resurrection (Oreo)
- LineageOS (Oreo)
- Lineage OS (Nougat)*
*note: the phone came with LineageOS in Nougat. Same mic issue
Flashes were attempted with factory reset only and with complete wipe of internal storage (this was the latest attempt)
Also attempted to use MicFix module for Magisk. Still no mic
Also tried muting/unmuting during calls. Still no mic.
Also tried toggling loudspeaker on and off. Still no mic.
Hence, I feel that it is a hardware issue. To strengthen that opinion, there is a one solitary dent on the phone, near where the mic would be. Could be a completely busted mic or disconnected mic.
Also calls works fine via a connected wired earphone with inline mic.
CURRENT PURSUED SOLUTION
To remedy this issue, I wanted to reroute the mic paths for calls. Instead of using the bottom mic, I want to use the top mic instead. So could I get some assist in editing the mixer_paths.xml file of this phone to achieve that?
I found there are a few file with the name mixer_paths
system/etc/usf/mixer/mixer_paths_mtp.xml
System/vendor/etc/mixer_paths_tasha.xml
System/vendor/etc/sound_trigger_mixer_paths.xml
System/vendor/etc/sound_trigger_mixer_paths_wcd9330.xml
There is also this file:
System/vendor/etc/audio_tuning_mixer_tasha.txt
Can anyone help me figure this out with me?
Also, if there is a better way to solve this or that maybe the direction of editing mixer_paths is not quite right please do tell.
Note: I am not adept at codes. I have done a semester of matlab and c++ and that's it. Not really code savvy.
Any assist is very appreciated. Have been troubleshooting this issue for a few days now. Can't seem to be able to solve this
Hmm... I don't know if you'll get the help you need here. You should also try posting to reddit.com/r/AndroidDev, or maybe the general XDA Q&A forum?
What you might find easier to do is just replace the mic entirely. The mic is located at the bottom of the phone, on the charging port module itself. Replacements are available on AliExpress, but they might be missing some features(?). A few other users have the same problem as you. I encourage you to read through this sub-forum.

I'll try with ur suggestion to post this elsewhere. I'd rather not replace the microphone just yet because I'd like to try a non-open-my-phone-apart solution. Not the most dexterous of hands.
use a headphone/bluetooth mic till u fix it
I have a different device but the same issue. Main mic is not good, gives nothing but hisses.
Tried using RuleBot(info.kfsoft.autotask) from play store to automatically enable loudspeaker (which forces microphone to switch) when there's a call. I will update later if it works.

Hi, did you ever manage to get this working
Hi! The upper microphone works when talking on speaker phone or with headset, but the bottom one doesn't. I've also tested with the microphone amplifier app, which clearly shows that the upper works and the bottom (default) doesn't. The line is completely still and value at 0 for the default mic.
In the beginning it was random, working on some calls and not others. All of the sudden it stopped working conpletely, on calls and with all apps.
Have tried cleaning it with a needle, didn't work. Have also tried flashing two mic fix I found here on the forum, they didn't work either, one by user fbs and the other by thejester123.
Has anyone had similar issues and found a solution?
If the zero is the peak signal reading, mike may be dead(or killed with the needle now).
I it's a volume/amp register it's software related.
Normally the microphones should just switch with talk modes, one being the microphone and the other for ambient noise reduction.
