This could really push Sailfish's marketshare into existence.

In January, Canonical teased a version of the Ubuntu software for Galaxy Nexus smartphones would be released sometime in February.
The new operating system was announced just before CES, revealing Canonical's intent to bring the full range of desktop capabilities to compatible smartphones.
Canonical has primarily used the Galaxy Nexus as its test device thus far, and it wasn't that shocking to learn a developer version of Ubuntu would be handed out so soon.
However, the developer just revealed a version of Ubuntu for Nexus 4 would arrive with the Galaxy Nexus edition, which comes as a bit of a nice surprise.
Preview of promise
Set to arrive on Feb. 21, the touch developer preview of Ubuntu for both Nexus smartphones will provide images and open source code for more savvy users to mess around with while they wait for a completed version.
The idea is to give Ubuntu enthusiasts and developers a chance to see what the OS has to offer, and give an early lead on potential app creation for the smartphone software.
Canonical will also release tools to help users flash their existing devices to the developer preview, which would allow them to stay up to date with the most current version.
Attendees of Mobile World Congress can bring their Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4 smartphones to the Canonical booth, where the developer will flash the devices themselves.
Additionally at MWC, Canonical will have a variety of Ubuntu devices on display (including a possible tablet), though the actual proprietary phones aren't expected to arrive until October.
"Our platform supports a wide range of screen sizes and resolutions. Developers who have experience bringing up phone environments will find it relatively easy to port Ubuntu to current handsets," said Canonical's Pat McGowan in a statement.
"We look forward to adding support for additional devices for everyday testing and experimentation."
The group has also created downloadable app design guidelines, giving potential developers the power to create for the full range of Ubuntu platforms.
Though iOS and Android have dominated the market thus far, there's plenty of room for a possible third option as Windows Phone 8 and BlackBerry 10 have yet to assert themselves in the marketplace.
Whether that OS is Ubutnu will largely depend on how quickly and easily users are able to assimilate the open source software.

hi
i just got a nokia lumia 625 and i have read many articles on the jolla os being ported on nokia devices is this possible for my phone if so how pls i realy want to use the OS
thanks in advance:good::laugh:
Sailfish is not ported to any phone. It is not available to public before Jolla releases their phone. And the ui is closed source.
Windows phones are so tightly locked, that I dont think it is possible to run other os on Nokia Lumias.
Will the Nokia n9 get sailfish update??
When goggled many say nokia has dropped n9 and will be no updates for old phones..
there is an unofficial port for n9. it won't be updated officially.

Search/Read/Follow the main thread at talk.maemo.org...
It's been explained countless times why there probably won't ever by a fully polished/supported version that one can buy:
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=90761&page=174
That thread used to be for the N9 & "other" devices, but it's recently become mostly for the N9.
This is the new thread focused mostly around Android devices (& there's threads @xda-dev ofc):

As it stands now the community version has hit a bit of a roadblock...
There may eventually be work-arounds, but it'll always be some steps behind Sailfish for Android & Sailfish devices.*
LT Nemo may be a better option for the N9, OR it may always remain quite "hack-ish" compared to Sailfish, time will tell.
*& even Sailfish for those devices is quite "beta-ish", esp. Android devices
I have just bought a smartwatch from Banggood and it has whet my appetite for something running a more mainstream OS.
Are there any cheaper nonbranded watches running these OS's?
Don't know about Tizen, but Google blocks any attempts so far to commercially release Wear on a smartwatch by anyone but their partners (ASUS, LG, Motorola, Samsung, Sony, etc.). So unless a Chinese company hides behind the Chinese legal system, don't expect anything from anybody but independent developers.
I was wondering if someone could tell me if the sailfish version currently available for the oneplus one is as secure as ubuntu touch for the oneplus one?
I want to know this, because I want to make purchases online with this OS, and I don't want my personal info to get stolen.
If someone knows the answer to this question, please respond ASAP.
Thanks.
I'm sure sailfish takes security seriously. IT is a linux based rom, much like Android and Ubuntu Touch. Security specifically for the One Plus One should be no different to any other phone running the same software version. To my knowledge, they are officially supported (in alpha state that is) on the main forums for sailfsih OS. Do you have any specific security risk in mind, or a general risk level?
I d like to now if sailfish or ubuntu touch are secure for privacy, i feel android ios and wp spyware apps are worst than window's virus and os are bot safe enough for me i like to run an os, as linux do, keep my privacy my data for me only without sharing with companies
