I installed the Gcam port hoping it would give me more accurate colours, but unfortunately it is not what I was hoping for. Coming from the Poco f1, the Gcam was a dramatic improvement. Comparing Gcam on Poco vs. K20 Pro, Poco wins hands down. Not 100% about the Miui cam. Wish I could change the colour temperature / white balance easier. Not super excited about the photos

Really? No one has uploaded any pictures on day light? Pfffffffffffff

I just saw MKBHD is review of K20 and he said front facing camera quality is garbage and also shows some really bad pictures, is it true or he's is overlooking something.

Not true, I took decent images with mine. (China ROM)

Back camera is good but front camera needs a lot of improvement

This is what the camera is really capable of. I am pretty impressed.

Visit the comments on that video u'll know what you need ! I think that front camera was damaged or not working accordingly .

Very nice photos, but a little over saturated...

The back cameras are garbage. If the app detects a face, it smudges it too badly, no matter what settings you use. The colours are good in jpg, but the raw files are very desaturated and with such a bad quality, that I can't believe you get something in jpg. I believe this is a software problem, because it's the same with all the three sensors, and I have some hopes for fix.

Keeping the functionality, if just adding a dng option is possible, everything will be fine and possible to fix. Guess there's a reason to keep the computational photography away still...

Here are photos taken by all three back cameras (taken from same place):

Thx, great collection

Nice photos. They were taken by you? Were they processed in photoshop or any other software?
Could you please share some details?

The correct answer is "processed by the phone". The RAW images would be different and the processing on this phone is "good" having in mind what you get for raw file. I'm in real wonder what's wrong but I believe this sensors can do better...

Exactly! I think the reason being that having a dual camera setup allows for more depth and image information for post processing to generate a better low light picture.
do you have the phone? used it to take pictures by night? I did and I say that the results are not exceptional. Nothing similar to flagship's pictures, no s7 quality. just budget phone camera quality. you must lie really still to avoid problems.

I maybe too late for the reply but why do you expect s7 quality? You can buy 2-3 S7s(depending on price in your country) with that price
no I don't expect s7 quality, and my other android is a oneplus 3t, but if a product is advertised as good, it must be good. From my experience the honour 6x dual camera doesn't help low light image quality.

I'm finding that most of the pictures I'm taking of people seem to be softened by the software. The softening of the pictures actually make them look pretty bad. Anyone else having this issue? Just using default settings when taking the pictures

Agree, portrait mode is terrible, also all the photos add some kind of softening filter. Only good thing is that you can edit the center of the photo so you can move the bokeh effect.

Well I use open camera mostly due to options. At low light I've found that the image quality is GREAT if you use 4MP(16:9) checked with 9MP and 12MP(always at 16:9 ratio).
In 4MP at very low light I was super impressed(always 100% jpeg quality in the open camera app). Test it yourself, it worth your time. Just make sure you have a steady surface
EDIT: uploading pictures 12MP, 9MP, 4MP
Image difference 2-3 seconds apart - 9:00pm (4MP>12MP>9MP). Don't know why 4MP is so much better(less MP is worse than 12MP)

What do you give up by using open camera (does tele and wide angle switch work and how is 4K video etc) so far I like the manual mode of the stock miui camera app but also like the idea of using a standard app off the play store

Well if you want optical zoom you still need to use the stock camera, 4K rec? you can but I pref 1080p also I do like to adjust the bitrate of the video and audio and open camera does have that. I use to use this app to my 1+1 too
I like to customize everything and miui camera well ..2-3 settings at best
P.S. Open camera also doesn't have panorama but talking to the dev and said he's planning to include a panorama soon - Did you check the low light quality in 4MP? impressive(compered to higher res)

Still not as good as the Pixel 2(the best camera-phone that I own) IN MY OPINION, but very good nonetheless. More than enough for a casual user. So yes, I'm impressed. Good job Xiaomi.

I came from the pixel 2xl and I agree, pixel camera is so much better, especially portrait ones.
My Opinion, coming from a oneplus 3T, There's just a huge photo quality overhaul, but I can compare it to a Huawei P20 Pro, and there's just a great difference on image sharpness and color saturation, Huawei pictures appear much more clear and better colored and detail defined. None the less, excellent photos for the casual photographer.

I have this problem with face/portrait photos. Looks like there is some heavy image processing when a face is detected. Gcam photos have lots more detail of the face....
Gesendet von meinem MIX 3 mit Tapatalk
did anyone noticed that when shooting in "auto mode", if you press the 2X, the phone doesn't use the telephoto? it's just a 2x zoom from the wide camera.
You can test that covering the telephoto lens with one finger and pressing the 2X.... it shows your finger for a fraction of a second and then it shows the zoomed wide camera.

This and some other Xiaomi phones have a skin blur effect that can't be disabled in the camera software. It's a shame because it's the only one that handles the telephoto lens nicely.
I had to give up on GCam because it would only take pictures in portrait mode, not in camera mode.
rear camera quality is awsome but the front has really werid boekh effect and blur

I've been using the light L16 for a long while. I assume it would work the same. Images on the Pure View may render a bit slow "on device" , since it dosent have to be exported into lights Lumen software. I'll see once mines arrives though.

Yes, with all the sensor data on it does take a while to merge all the image data. The amount of time varies based on the scene and detail.

It's instant surprisingly, their software team has done a excellent job on that part. Even though it uses the SD820 and their custom ASIC together, everything works just fine. I'm sure with the SD845 and the ASIC chip, things would work much better on that device.

I meant it takes a while on the Nokia 9 Pureview. I've had everywhere from about 4 seconds, up to 25ish seconds to process a photo.
As I'm eager to get my hands on this device mainly for the capabilities of the camera, is it possible for some of the lucky early owners to share a few RAW files.
At least two people here have it, and we don't have one real-life sample to check out.
I really can't believe there are no real and meaningful reviews for this phone...

Here's three in a wetransfer link. Too big to post DNGs on here. These have quite a bit of good depth data and were fun to edit. Didn't share my edits in this grouping though.

Thanks man, can I reuse the link and/or unedited exported with LR images on other forums, to shutdown some huawei fans
I'm amazed by the details, it is really good. Could you share some b/w dng's please? Huawei mate 9 with only one bw sensor took amazing shots , so I'm really curious at what the Nokia 9 can do
More dng samples please
Guys, can you please post more dng samples? outdoors for base iso, indoors for high iso? When I developed the dngs posted here, they are all quite great actually, even at iso 1600. That's the flowers shot. The same flower shot in jpg is quite oversharpened and noisy, with ugly artefacts, dark shadows and blown out highlights that are not present in the jpg. The subway shot is iso 1400, basically noise free. The doughnut shot is iso 208 and man, it is absolutely amazing in terms of both detail and noise. I think the bad quality you see in jpgs is simply bad processing by the nokia camera app. I think that this hardware is capable of great photos. Wondering if SNAP camera HDR app would work on this. Thanks!

I will try to add some tomorrow. Did some compare shots with the xz3 and a rx100 vi
https://we.tl/t-N9cRshSrlb
If people are interested I can do a bit more in depth comparison
I think the shadow recovery is amazing, almost no noise increase, and this on a phone.
1st photo supplied by @phunkyp , increased the brightness of the dark background in a raw editor.
But i think the general sharpness isn't the best compared with well lit single sensor photos, what do you think? For example in the samples of @stefanve those details in the trees just look strange somehow. But there is definatly a lot to play with in the editor (2nd photo by him). Yes its a bit much.
Here are a couple of extra test shots. 3 files per scene. DNG, JPG from the default camera app and one from the LR camera. The LR shot should be using only one of the 5 camera's so we can see the difference between one vs 5 camera's
https://we.tl/t-deZimhn8Sz
Personally I don't think that the camera has on point focus (maybe that is why they use very aggressive sharpening in de jpegs) but overall I think it is really good for a phone, lots of detail and light. This is one of the view phones (that I used) that gives me usable photo's the other one being the Lumia 950 XL and the Mate 9 (but only in b&w)
Is Lightroom not capable to get raw from the Nokia cam? That would be interesting to compare, Lightroom single Cam dng vs Lightroom HDR dng vs Nokia 5 cam dng.
No sadly , it is not possible to save the raw data with de LR camera app.
edit wrong post.

Quite disappointed to be honest. Think I will send it back. Pictures with the OnePlus app are fuzzy, not sharp at all. Installed gcam, pictures are sharp but in low light color is lost, washed out, almost grayscale filter. Coming from p20 pro. That device also sometimes applies weird sharpening/smoothing, but mostly it's very good. Had high hopes as dxomark rated the OnePlus 7 above the p20 pro. Not!
Images are too punchy and water colored, hopefully it wil get fixed soon in updates

Happened to me with different xml files. Try with another one?
Just got my 7T today and took some pictures tonight with the pro feature in the camera app with nothing but a flimsy 5 dollar tripod lol. I have to say, it's a pretty darn good camera, and that's coming from a Pixel... Don't get me wrong, Pixel Cameras are amazing and the quality on the 7Ts are a bit washed out but It's still up there with the big boys.
Here's some of my pics from tonight. Keep in mind im in NYC and it's extremely hard to impossible to see the night sky like this.
A friend and I were playing around with our cameras the other day. We were in his basement and it was kind of weirdly lit. His new iphone the pictures he would take would be completely white like the room was normally lit. On the oneplus 7t the picture was a lot darker, the shadows were a lot more noticable some to an extreme point. I took another picture with it in night mode and it looked more like the iphones picture but things like fabric looked fuzzier than it should have. He then took a picture with his dslr camera... suprisingly it looked very similar to the picture that I had just taken from the oneplus 7t. When we compared all the pictures the white balance looked better on the oneplus 7t. It looked more like the white balance from the dslr. The iphones picture looked more on the yellow side imo. So take it with a grain of salt in that one situation.

After trying another version (7.0), same version as before did not work at all. Reboot solved the issue. I guess the 7.0 version messed up the camera hal.
Took several photos around a park in good lighting and also when the sun went down and I gotta say I wouldn't be too sad if I had to stick with this as my main camera(I have a note 10+ as well). Ive had all the Oneplus's since the 3t and they have come along ways. Looking forward to more improvements to nightscape and HDR.
Took some photos yesterday. It is not the best camera there, but you can still make some really good photos.
I definitely find photos a bit too saturated... especially that I come from using Pixel device where colours are usually more colder.

Too much yellow in photos
Using the latest 7.X gcam from the thread and I got some surprisingly good results. If a camera can get sharp results in mediocre lighting on a somewhat bouncy dog then I'm happy.
No edits straight out the camera btw
