Hi Guys,
after doing lots of research in the last couple days I cannot really get an overview over all the different resellers/manufacturers.
I am now more confused than when I started gathering informations... Joying, Pumpkin, Atoto,..... a lot of names, all offering what looks like the same?
Is there any comparison chart or something I could have a look at? Maybe a site that is dedicated to those android head units?
I tried to compare the different head units on my own but data sheets and real world performance/reliability are 2 diferent things.
Are there any general advices for buying android head units?
What about that DSP stuff? Is it even worth the extra money? - I also found very different opinions (including threads here on xda)
Maybe we can gather a little bit of information in this thread so beginners can get more infos about the topic..
Some help would be highly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Fold

hi, guys,
Finally, found this place. More than two years ago, when we start android head unit campaign, there is even no this sub-forum. Android head unit is a kind of product full of fun and challenge. We can see there are many discussions here about issues and features.
After several years development and tried lots of new things we know there are still many areas we cannot cover in terms of localization, habit and regulation etc . But android provided the power. So, here comes open source to all people for more possibilities. Have fun, hope you guys could love it.

Hi All,
(before you say search, I am and reading lots )
Ive been looking about at some (chinese) Android HU's for my VW EOS.
What Im looking for is a pure android, preferably able to root or flash roms as I like to tinker and play.
Relativly new hardware / quad core etc.
Main use Blue Tooth, Radio, Satnav
May I ask a few questions:
It seems many are the same or similar but there are a lot of acronyms about and lots of chip numbers etc.
What chip sets should I be looking for and things to look out for and things to avoid.
Feel free to recomend a few unless promotion is frowned upon.
So any recomendations on chip sets ram/rom android version (stable) makes to look at makes to avoid.
Pumpkin / Eonon / Erisin / etc etc good / bad?
What does MTCB stand for good/bad, also seen threads on S150 / S160 , this maker or chip?
Sorry lots of questions, Im just trying to get up to speed asap, lots of reading lots of asking.
Looking forward to getting a HU and then seeing all the stuff you can do.
Many Kind Regards Guy
Thanks All
Thanks for the info very helpfull.
I'm digging around this forum and it seems Joying or Ownice are the way to go. Is there a post or blog with a Buyer's Guide for these things?
Thanks!
Would love to see that too, was going to ask for one for Xmass... Thanks ahead of time.
this would be great...
Have you considered a Dasaita? @hotaudio posts MCU and Software updates on here pretty regularly
He probably would consider them if there was a buyer's guide type thread giving the pluses and minuses of the common units out there. I am in the same boat. Very interested but not sure which one to go with, and sorting through several 1000+ post threads on something you are not sure you will buy is a little off putting. Could be though that most everybody only has experience with their one unit and doesn't know about most/all of the units out there?
.
this would be great, I'm looking for a single din pop out that I can root with Bluetooth an wifi maybe even able to take a sim card to have its own data,
Heya,
I'm looking to purchase one of these for our RV. The number of different companies offering these and options makes it extremely difficult to make an informed decision.
Does anyone have any recommendations for these (seller, options, etc)? It seems the best unit would be one with 4gb ram and 64gb nand flash, dsp, GPS, tpms, odbc2, 3 camera input, and carplay/android auto. Can some of those options be enabled with known codes instead of purchasing?
I'm also open to suggestions for a better unit with smaller display. The swivel mount on the 12.8 will be handy with the already angled dash layout in the RV.
Thank you in advance for the help with this.

All these units are manufactored at Klyde. All others are only reseller. They just sell and give no real support...
To get the best support and the possibility to talk with them about the needed features, you should have a look directly at Klyde.
Get in contact via website, tell them your wishes and you will get an offer.
May be you are able to get it a bit down, or some gift extra.

Why create a topic with a question about a device where there is already a discussion about this device?

I saw that thread and read through every post. I also did a lot of searching in these forums and others. NO ONE has asked these questions yet and I was looking for help. I'm terribly sorry I inconvenienced you with my inquiry. I'll stop posting on XDA it seems. After 12 years I guess things have changed here and it's no longer about helping those with questions.

I was wondering if it was either Belsee or Klyde, but I saw on another thread that the boards were labeled Dacca or something. I've reached out to Klyde and have their prices and options. TY rigattoni.

You have not caused me inconvenience, inconvenience to those who like and you will look for answers to their questions. It is more convenient to have information in one topic, not in different ones. If you don't have a hard time let's have a discussion and share experiences on that topic.
I just picked up an Android 10 joying head unit. The install was easy and everything appears to be working. Is there anything else I need to do on the head unit? They didn't give much instructions. For instance the radio doesn't show the names very well but I don't know if I'm missing something or if that's how it is. This is my first foray into this stuff so I'm totally lost, any help would be appreciated, thank you

Hi, on this forum you have a bunch how to do stuff just read them, find your own model of multimedia and play with it.
There's a pretty steep learning curve for a lot of the stuff you will read about on here. Be careful and methodical. Don't make a change or upload a software or something to your unit if you aren't 100% sure about what it does. There is small chance you could brick your unit if you don't know what you're doing, and a less small chance you could unintentionally break some features that may require significant effort to restore.
First, determine the model, processor and firmware of your unit.
The processor could be a USI7862, could be an SC9853i or even a Qualcomm Snapdragon SD625. This will point you in the direction of the threads for specific FAQs/Q&A. That's your first step.
If you're generally pretty happy with your unit, I might suggest exploring downloading and using a new launcher to see if you like the change in interface. This could make you feel a whole different way about your Android head unit and make it 'feel' more like a factory stock unit with added features. Lots of customization options, and you can usually revert back to stock launcher pretty easily if you don't like it or if there are some compatibility issues.
So maybe that's a place to start - also, I think most of the Joying units (if not all) are FYT-made, so there will be more specific information available in the FYT head unit forum. Lots of good and helpful folks here, but they do expect you to read, read, read and try to learn the basics, too.

Yeah I think I'm starting to get the hang of some of it. I found out I have a UIS7862. Going to read through the thread for it and see what I can get out of it.

It will be a bit intimidating. Commit to reading through the UIS7862 threads in their entirety multiple times, and don't jump in with both feet uploading software. If you stick around and read for a few weeks while you get used to your head unit, you'll learn the terminology as you go, and you'll learn what you like and don't like about your head unit, as well as it's features and limitations.
Then you can make some more informed choices about IF anything needs to be changed, and learn HOW to do it.
I'm still early in the process myself.
